You absolutely must try the chicken at L’Auberge d’Hermance. I have never tasted a chicken like this before. Succulent, tender and very tasty. Service is top level: friendly yet professional and fast. Atmosphere is rich and traditional. Great place to take your business partners to. Valet parking is a classy addition to the overall experience as there is nowhere to park in Hermance. Please don’t forget to tip the valet) Not all starters are worth your money though. Winter salad is the one to avoid.

Several comments on this establishment, which most probably result from very bad timing in terms of staff, but which remain completely in our throats. We went there in October 2022 with an offer from a very popular site. All our dishes were absolutely delicious but the quantities were insufficient. After starter, main course, cheese and desserts we were still hungry. That evening, there was an argument in the kitchen that echoed throughout the dining room. The phrase "you're all pissing me off" was hard to ignore and left a chill in the room for several minutes. The service was, however, efficient and almost smiling. The night included in the offer was not easy because the staff started playing music until the early hours of the morning at an unreasonable volume. The breakfast was very good, the plates were served to us covered in cling film and the waiter (who was not particularly cheerful) confused our drink order with the only other table that morning. At the time of departure, we paid the hefty bill for our drinks (a bottle of water, a tea and a coffee for around 27.- if I remember correctly) and finally received a smile from our waiter who very much welcomed us. friendly offered to round the bill to the next ten francs. Tired and weary, we agreed and took our car back with a “come back and see us!” which left us speechless. When we got to our vehicle, we looked at each other in silence and burst out laughing. In view of all the glowing comments from other customers, we draw the conclusion that we are "just" wrong. However, we will not try the experiment again, despite the cordial invitation from our server.

Very mixed...we went to eat with a good buyclub, and despite our order according to the menu offered a la carte, we had to add 350 chf...the worst is that the staff had "rounded the bill" with a 0 behind...so 3500 chf! If I hadn't noticed after 2 glasses of wine, I would have been fooled! We had to ask three times to have our order taken, twice to get the bill, and no one ever bothered to ask us if we needed a high chair for our daughter. Meanwhile the head waiter happily and extensively chatted with long time customers, giving us a look as if we were lesser clients. It’s a pity, the food and setting are five stars. My recommendation to the staff would be to treat customers well, regardless of whether they are first timers or come with children. It would make for a much more pleasant experience, and obviously a better rating. Missed opportunity.

The garden is cute, and the staff is extremely nice and kind. The food was not outstanding for us, it seemed to try to be fancy in presentation but the quality was not there. If they served simpler, homely dishes with a focus on high quality ingredients we would have had been a better dinner. In the end what we eat felt unremarkable, a bad copy of a fancy dinner. If it wasn't for the pretty garden we would have been very disappointed. As I said the staff was really lovely, but the service was a little messy (delays, missing items, sauces brought after we started eating the dish), perhaps there were too many people that night. To put it in perspective we spent double the amount the night before in a 2 michelin stars restaurants that felt more worth it than the dinner we had here at half the price.

I have visited this restaurant many times over the last three years. To my regret, unfortunately, the last visit was not a pleasant one. My companion and I arrived well in advance of our reservation and we were well received and attended to, but this lasted only for the first 30 minutes. Upon arrival of a possible VIP at the restaurant, it appeared that my companion and I were quickly forgotten, much like the rest of the guests around our corner of the restaurant. After finishing the first half of the main course, a house specialty (which is served in two intervals), we waited for about 30 minutes before we were attended to again. It was interesting to observe that while three waiters served one table of four people next to us, two of us failed in our ability to get a single waiter's attention. This is unlike the previous times when we had visited the restaurant and had ordered the same dish; hence it came off as a surprise. To be sure, my companion and I tried hard to grab the attention of the waiters during this long waiting period but to no avail as we were mostly ignored. After more than 30 minutes, a waiter arrived to remove our plates, only to realise that we had not been served our full main course. We were thanked for our patience but unfortunately, no apologies were offered for the extensive delay. We waited for another 15 minutes for the second part of our main course, by which time we had completely lost our appetite, hunger, and patience. This was past 2100hrs. We finished the rest of what appeared to be reheated dish because this had been left cold and not served to us sooner. Swallowing our disappointment, we politely skipped the dessert and asked for the bill and indicated that we were on a rush to catch the bus back to city centre. We had to wait for another whopping 30 minutes before someone came to collect the payment, despite our trying to grab the attention. I would have expected a better service from a place that charges CHF 250 for an evening for two persons (minus the dessert). Besides, out of a total of 2.5hrs that was spent in the restaurant, half the time was spent being frustrated waiting for a waiter or grabbing their attention. Going to a restaurant is not only about the food, but also about the ambience and the service. The experience is tarnished when the host, who is paid for, fails to fairly deliver their part of the deal, especially when this is not caused by exceptional circumstances that can be understood and excused, but because of prejudice and partiality. Everyone should be treated fairly at the table, where service is charged dearly and paid for fairly.

We went there with some friends in perfect late summer weather and were seated (we had obviously reserved) on the charming, shady outside terrace. The choices à la carte are great and we opted for the much-talked-about chicken in salt crust (juicy and very good) and the black cod (very good but possibly a little on the "sweet" side..), thus neglecting the more obvious filets de perches (from THE lake) and other tempting dishes. The excellent little "miniardises" and complimentary "pre-starters" nearly compensate for deserts and starters, though some deserts (especially the "tartes" and the ice-cream) were outstanding. There is a good wine selection, from Switzerland and elsewhere, and the service is both good and friendly. The restaurant is located in this very cute village, close to the French border; a trek from the lake's other side but definitely worth it. We shall definitely return!
