Young staff, very incompetent and unfriendly. It doesn't work at all

The food and the location are central but loud. (2.5 stars out of 5) The homemade iced tea was delicious, the sangria was rather inedible (leave 3/4) Prices are rather higher for what it is. However, the service was special, the owner wasn't really friendly. After a drink, wine and a large plate, I ordered an espresso with a glass of water (believing that a sip of water simply goes with espresso/coffee) The water (by the glass) was then shown on the bill as CHF 4.50. I asked the boss about it and asked politely "if water doesn't go with a coffee?" To which he said unkindly "Not with us", to which I simply replied "then consider it a tip" and left with a smile after I paid.

At 9:45 p.m. we asked if we could have a drink outside under the sun blinds (it was raining lightly). Yes, but only one more round, they would then close. The drinks were served and collected. Around 20 minutes later, more guests arrived, were also served, and with whom the - very arrogant - boss talked loudly over our heads. A short time later the boss shouted: "We're going to pull in the blinds, we're closing!" No please/thank you, no explanation as to why they wanted to close at 10:30 p.m. The blind went up and we sat in the rain with our drinks.

It is not Spanish food, it is not made like in Spain. Good variety of drinks and pleasant service depending on who serves you.

Skirts are becoming shorter and shorter and communication is becoming more and more difficult. Too bad had really great staff.

A beautiful restaurant in Gundeli right on Tellplatz. Large, comfortable terrace. The food is really very fine. The squid is particularly worth mentioning! The service is good and so is the price!

The food you get is so mediocre, i.e. small portions, a lot of it is simply fried and carelessly prepared. And the prices are just ridiculous. No more!

Enjoyed the Gundeli outside with fine food in the summer.

Food was average, nothing special except for the sauce. We tried the champiñon salteados, patatas al ajillo, croquetas, and calamares a la Romana. The drinks were mediocre and couldn’t taste alcohol in them. We tried Hugo and Moscow Mule. They can definitely put more effort as the location of the restaurant is very inviting and attractive.

Esquina Spritz, unique taste, but something different than the Apérol Spritz...

Nice restaurant with a large garden. The service made an effort and the food was good. There is a weekly menu at lunchtime with a vegetarian, meat and fish menu. In the evening you can also drink delicious cocktails and eat tapas.

Rudest service experienced in CH so far

All in all ok, unfortunately not as great as the first time. Atmosphere outside too dominated by trams. Service slightly re-coordinated.

A very nice place with delicious tapas. I like to come here often. In the summer the outside area is great but the ambience inside is also great. The cocktails (especially the non-alcoholic ones) are really great. Price wise it's on the more expensive side but totally ok.

Our favourite place to go in Basel! Delicious Spanish tapas and great drinks, we love to come here and enjoy the beautiful terrace they have. A perfect oasis in the busy city of Basel. Service is always great and attentive. Highly recommend!

Restaurant is nice. Charging 4.5CHF for a glass of water is legal, but is morally thievery.

The place is nice if you can find a spot outside. Drinks are ok but tapas are overpriced in my opinion I got the fried calamari which were super oily. Staff is friendly and service is good.

There was hair in my food. Disappointing as it wasn’t my first time here and I otherwise liked it. Unfortunate.

Good place to have a drink in Basel. It always has people but I'm missing Spanish people and other typical things from here for the bar, like a good Spanish omelette, some appetizers, etc.

One of my son's favorite places. I always enjoy coming back. Great after-work place. Tapas to share and enjoy are always a very good choice.

Food was actually pretty good. I came with a party of 8 and at the end of the meal we decided to split the bill. We each go one by one to the counter and pay for our orders. I was the last one to pay but there was my order and an extra drink. I said I didn't buy that drink and that I can ask my friends waiting outside if one of them forgot to pay for their drink. She told me that it was fine and not to worry about it. I though to myself it was very kind of her. I said I can pay for it and my friend will no doubt reimburse me anyway. But she insisted not to worry. However when I paid, the card machine showed the full price, including the drink. Moreover after I paid she didn't offer the receipt and even after I gestured with my hand...nothing. I didn't say anything. I went out to join my friends, the guy who forgot to pay for the drink just gave me the cash as I predicted. I really wouldn't have mind asking them or even paying for myself but the fact that they tried to cheat me rubbed me the wrong way. Will not be going back.

I can definitely recommend this place to go for drinks in the evening. It's nicely located in the middle of the Gundeli neighbourhood. When it comes to food, this restaurant really ranks average, at least the prices were fair. I wouldn't order food again.

Long waiting time. Food was OK. Friendliness of the staff was okay. You can do it. But not a place for large groups.

Beautiful restaurant with several outdoor seats. Very large terrace, in fact the terrace is always full. A delicious tapas dish. The waitresses are top notch, the young South African is excellent and very professional, it seems like she has always done this job. The prices are not cheap but affordable.

Expensive for the portion they give you! The prawns cost 21.50 and there are only 5 prawns, the same as the drinks are not good and are expensive

I reserved a table at short notice for my daughter's birthday, easy online reservation. The food was great, fresh and very tasty like at home in Spain :) Without mentioning the birthday, after paying, they brought a dessert with a candle. Very, very kind gesture! Thanks a lot ! The staff very friendly and attentive. Simply great and unforgettable!!! :)

We only had a drink, but the atmosphere was very nice and the service was nice. The food at the neighboring table definitely looked delicious and inviting. If we hadn't already reserved a table somewhere else, we would have eaten our way through the tapas 😅

Visited on recommendation.. A reservation is an advantage.. the restaurant has a very good reputation... garden terrace is large and very well maintained... at the entrance the Covid certificate is rigorously pointed out, scanning plus an official document is required..: , the menu is interesting and generous with something for every palate.. good wine selection… The service is excellent and courteous…. The guest is king here.. The boss is present, for me a sign of the well-kept gastronomy… Prices are normal.. The food is fantastic… would be happy again…

Nice atmosphere in Gundeli - very varied 'Tapas' menu accompanied by good drinks - wines, 'sangría' and 'cañas' (beers). They also offer cocktails and that's another good reason for me to comeback. The 'pulpo' (octupus) was perfectly done and the staff was just great! Not Spanish but Swiss prices though...
