I met Max when I moved to beautiful Gundeli over a year ago. Since then it has become an absolute favorite for me. Whether it's a fantastic brunch on Sunday with a brilliant selection at the buffet, a fine aperitif on the spacious and sun-drenched terrace or a refreshing draft beer after a game of tennis and of course the always varied evening menu designed by chef Javi, the Max always offers something for everyone that inspires. In addition, as a warm hostess, Silvana always ensures a good atmosphere and an absolute living room atmosphere. The team is courteous, friendly and professional and you can tell that together they create an oasis of well-being for the guests. Always an experience at Max, thank you for being here!

Restaurant Max is not just a tennis club restaurant - it is the best restaurant in a tennis club in Basel. Silvana is an extraordinary host who captivates every guest with a lot of heart and charm. Spanish chef Javi presents Spanish dishes in a new context. You can tell from the entire team that everyone enjoys working here and that there is a healthy working atmosphere there. Price-performance ratio is great here! The terrace is a big plus. We love the Max! Keep it up! <3

The food is very good and comes with a degree of creativity and attention to detail. Probably the best place I visited in Basel. The vibe is like visiting your friend's cottage.

First of all: it always depends on expectations and we had high expectations for brunch yesterday due to the extremely (too?) high rating average. The restaurant has the student-left-eco-amateur ambience that is now typical of Basel; Sounds malicious, I know, but it's not meant to be malicious. The audience: many parents/mothers with many small children and babies. So quiet and relaxed enjoyment was not possible. I don't know whether it was just a coincidence yesterday or whether it's always like this. The food was ok, the buffet was “manageable” and simply presented. Basically, a “zMorge” more similar to home than in a restaurant that specializes in brunch. When I go out for brunch, I want to be surprised and pampered and, for example, I don't want to eat out of dishes with broken edges. Coffees just okay. I would strongly recommend simple barista training to the friendly (more like “I-work-here-part-time-while-studying) staff. I observed how they handled the coffee machine - verdict: “because they (simply) don’t know what they’re doing”! You're foaming somehow, but you're banging around without knowing what you're actually doing. Latte art is a foreign word (expression). This is how cappuccino/latte etc. look and how espresso tastes. Tip: The “coffee makers” are at home nearby; They are awesome and, in my opinion, offer also training/coaching). Price level: for what is offered at the border. If you don't care about all of this, as many people seem to, then you can certainly come here for brunch.

It's just great with Dr Silvana. Everything is uncomplicated, and everything is a hit. Kuchi is super creative. I love it!

Freshly prepared food, as well as optimally reused from the day before (sustainably), at the breakfast buffet. Very nice hosts. Rustic atmosphere. You sit close to your neighbors and conversations can be overheard Worth a visit. Reservation recommended.

At Max you feel welcome from the first second! The whole team is very accommodating. Be it brunch, lunch or dinner, there is something for all food preferences (vegi, vegan, butchers)😍 It is very comfortably furnished and on the large terrace you feel like you are on vacation 🤗 The Max is highly recommended! My buddy and I were recommended this place by a local. We were drawn to the breakfast buffet option. We ended up opting for dishes. The buffet had many options, but resembled a more extensive continental breakfast than it did true buffet. Was hoping for a variety of egg options, pancakes, bacon (all offered on the dishes but not within the buffet). The price point was absolutely impressive for the dishes. The eggs Benedict gives you a perfect fullness. Cheapest meal by far in Basel. The quality was incredibly high too. Being in a tennis club added to the atmosphere along with an easy singing morning band (Sunday). Iced coffee was a major plus as well. I’ve made reviews for the several restaurants we tried in Basel and like the others, the staff was incredibly warm and English speaking. It’s not too far from Basel gare, but feels very local. Would have given five stars for a little more extensive buffet, but the experience overall was very high. So for anyone looking for a breakfast option near the train station, it’s worth the 10 minute walk. (The bacon was an extra addition in the photo but very well priced at 1.50 CHF I believe.)

Price performance very poor. Far too small portions. Despite the starter, main course and dessert, we went home hungry. Had to raid the fridge at home... 😖😖😖 for this price per person, I expect more! Therefore unfortunately 👎👎 very disappointing.

A bit hidden at the back of Gundeli near a tennis court, I found this “Joya”. Very good Spanish cuisine, which surprised me. I'm not usually a fan of Spanish cuisine. There is a menu for lunch, which I really enjoyed. I'm looking forward to dinner.

This is a tennis club restaurant. So light or sporty outfit. The food is good, freshly prepared on site, well spiced, the service pleasant, good value for money. Absolutely nothing to say.

Great restaurant in a very cozy atmosphere in the middle of Gundeli. Silvana, a passionate restaurateur, pampers her guests with wonderful Mediterranean food, excellent wine and a friendliness that you have to look for in Switzerland. We always enjoy coming by, be it for lunch or dinner. Keep it up!

We went to Max for dinner with friends. The atmosphere was very warm and cozy. We tried all the dishes in the tapas version and loved them! We'll definitely be back :) Highly recommended!

We just wanted to have a quick lunch here after viewing the apartment. Then the food was so delicious, the craft beer was delicious, the waitresses were super friendly and we were able to watch the rallies on the tennis court. A full three hours later and re-ordering the croquetas, we were finally able to tear ourselves away. In short: a small and fine menu, the best ingredients and super friendly service. An absolute recommendation. We will be back!

We were able to have brunch at Max for the first time on a Sunday. It was incredibly warm and familiar. The buffet was small but nice and we didn't miss anything. The cappuccino is fresh and delicious and the homemade hummus is sensational. We will definitely and happily come back and thank you very much for the great hospitality.

I'm usually skeptical about a rating of 5.0 stars on average - but after my visit yesterday it's completely understandable to me. The pasta dish (fresh pasta | pesto rojo | eggplant | stracciatella) for a fair CHF 18 francs was really perfectly prepared in terms of presentation, taste (!) and quantity. Friendly owner and pleasant atmosphere next to the tennis court. I'd love to come back to try the rest of the dishes.

The food was absolutely amazing, as was the hostess Silvana and the vegan strawberry dessert changed my life. Now I'm a regular.

I could not wish for a better restaurant in Basel! Only a couple minutes from downtown but you feel like you’re out in the countryside. Such a calm and relaxing atmosphere in the park. The food is fresh and flavorful with a chic presentation. If you want a drink, go for the Max Spritz. Excellent summer cocktail 👌

Once in a rare moment, you come across THAT place. You hope for it and you see it in movies and you read about it. Max is that place. The owner and her children (?) efficiently, professionally and cordially serving the nice mix of locals of all backgrounds. All, while good friends play tennis on the clay court in front of the restaurant. The food is elegant, precise and beautiful. Do stop by.
