Great service, cozy authentic atmosphere and delicious food at a good price :) highly recommended!

Were very surprised that the choice at lunch was only 3! Menus exist. If we had known that we wouldn't have come! Service was also very mediocre. Didn't feel welcome. We won't be back at lunchtime.

eat excellently. Room atmosphere could be better, certain places very loud and exposed. Table reserved for 2 hours max. This is also communicated, everything is correct. Nevertheless, it is only partially customer-friendly - it lacks the Japanese service charm....

We had lunch, tried two of the three options, the food was disappointing, relying too much in sugar and overpriced. Left feeling like I lost my time and my money. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Editing my review to respond to you Toru: yes you are right, the food was edible, and we were hungry but it was not enjoyable. I had to stand up and go to the counter to get the attention of your staff, which I was trying to flag for about 10 min that the food was not ok. They offered to make me a new dish with less glasur but it would have taken too long and I had to go. I don’t like to give 1 star reviews to any business but in this case I tried so many times to let them know things weren’t ok and people either smiled and ignored me, or suggested me to leave a review instead of talking to them. So I did.

Miake is a super good restaurant, good quality food, super friendly and courteous staff/service. Ambiance is like in Japan.

The food was very good, especially the large veggie roll. The Katsu Kare was delicious, the sauce was very good and the portion size was ideal. First you get a warm towel to clean your hands and the menu is right at the table. There was a large selection of different dishes that it wasn't easy to decide. I'll definitely come back here.

This is a very fine place, it's really cute and my sister and I loved the traditional part of the restaurant. The staff is very friendly and attentive, plus the food was very delicious. It is a little on the pricey side but a beautiful experience.

Really excellent traditional Japanese restaurant with a great vibe, excellent food and in a lovely setting. Excellent and extremely attentive service from a well oiled team. Eaten here on a few occasions and it really is a special treat. It just can't be faulted.

We really enjoy going out for Japanese food, but we've never seen such a cool place. The food was great and the traditional corner is really nice. We'd love to come back. :)

Update: I really like this restaurant and have always recommended it to my friends. However, tonight it was a bad dining experience and I thought it was a shame. Tonight I suggested to my two friends to try this restaurant. When I booked the appointment, I was already informed that we could only stay for 2 hours due to the high season. I agree with this and have told my friends that we all agree with it. After 30 minutes of arriving we were already told five times that we had to leave before 8pm. When we tried to order drinks again we were told, "You only have 30 minutes left." Other things happened too, like they recorded incorrect orders. We ordered 1 sake but they bought three sakes instead. We ordered water and it was charged in the bill but the water didn't arrive even though we reminded once that the water hadn't arrived yet. After we paid, we tried to give feedback that we don't need to be reminded of the time so often because it makes us feel uncomfortable and the restaurant wants us to leave as soon as possible. We were aware of the time from the start and had no intention of staying longer, so it wasn't necessary, but the lady confided that "if you feel uncomfortable, you shouldn't make a reservation here". This kind of answer makes us sad :(

It was only my second time there. The food was again excellent! The service is extremely attentive and friendly. When I wanted to go there recently with a friend, she said: No, the clothes smell so bad afterwards. I couldn't understand that, but after my current visit I could. At the next table, a family ordered what was probably the Japanese version of meat fondue. The frying created a strong smell that filled the room. Not ideal for vegetarians at all.

One of my favourite Japanese restaurants. The food is tasty, the staff attentive and the location tidy. Also plenty of drinks available! Definitely coming again when around.

We were there yesterday. The food was delicious, the sushi, gyuodon etc were fine. Since the table was occupied twice in the evening and we had the table at 6 p.m., there were 7 of us! pointed out again and again that we had to leave the table at 8 p.m. Nothing came of a cozy evening with good food. It's a shame, it could have been so nice. Drinks that were ordered but not delivered and drinks that were brought several times were just a minor matter.

After our first visit in the summer, we already had high expectations. What can I say? They were fully fulfilled. We had a wonderful, cozy evening. There was only one table left in the traditional area - which was a bit of a physical challenge for our old bones ;-) but... it was worth it. This creates another special atmosphere that we really enjoyed. The quality of the food is at a very high level. From the great support during booking to the service - everything was top!

Food and service in the evening - amazing! 6 stars out of 5. But lunch is really not worth it - menu has only 3 options, it tastes like it was pre-prepared and warmed up. In addition, our waiter was very impolite today (other waitresses were nice). Will come for dinner again for sure, but not for lunch.

We tried sitting in the traditional Japanese section with tatami and it was comfortable for two people as long as you have empty seats next to you. All the dishes were delicious but the Futomaki with vegetables was extraordinary: Very fresh and fulfilling!!! Will definitely visit again!

Love Miake. Been several times for dinner. Only disappointment today, I took a friend for lunch & lunch menu whilst delicious, was very limited. Would be great to have a couple of more choices - even from a la carte.

The food was the best we've ever had for everyone. Service is great. In the traditional area on the left everything is super nice. The 6-seater table in the back right part was worn and noisy. Slight adjustments would result in full marks.

I was here because of the good reviews, but unfortunately I wasn't completely convinced. The seating is narrow, the four-seater tables at the edge are quite narrow. The service is friendly, but we didn't receive our drinks even after waiting 20 minutes, so even the waitress was surprised. The ventilation needs to be improved, you probably won't sit here for long. The food was okay, but the sushi rice was a bit overcooked, especially with the hosomakis. The crab salad in a very clear bowl for CHF 11 was not a hit, the crab was probably intended more as a decoration. The tuna tataki was all the better. On a Friday evening you can find a table here even without a reservation. It remains a one-time visit.

My partner and I visited Miake Izakaya for the first time. We absolutely loved the AMAZINGLY authentic food, friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. Although everything was 10/10, we would definitely recommend the takoyaki, lightly seared beef and tori nanban. Can’t wait to visit again!

Delicious lunch menu (during lunchtime only lunch menu) with 3 options, loved the veggie option! Tatami seats are super nice and give additional authentic feeling✨ always coming back for more.

Never had such a bad Mapo Tofo. Unfortunately, gyoza were nothing either. The cuisine definitely has nothing to do with Japanese. Mass production and you can taste it when you eat.

Delicious Japanese food but two-shift system when making reservations

The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, food is delicious and staff very friendly and attentive. Definitely one of the best Gyoza I’ve ever had.

Basically the food is good, but I have a problem with the price-performance ratio. 30 francs for a Katsu Kare and then the portion is very small (relatively 80% rice and the rest curry and meat) is almost a rip-off. Even though the meat was good, the curry could definitely be better (and more). Everything else we had was very good but also expensive, at least it corresponded to the price-performance ratio (more or less). The big Swiss rip-off and unfortunately you are not alone in demanding money for “Basler Hahnenwasser”. This is a cheeky hit. Tap water has to be free and that's exactly why I don't come anymore.

Well presented Japanese food, delicious sauces and dashi.... decent portion sizes and good drinks. As far as Japanese food in Basel goes, this restaurant knocks it out of the park to the point where homesick big city dwellers quench their thirst for urban food here. It's telling too that it's difficult to get a reservation here, especially at short notice. The interior is also inventive and special. Go and enjoy - it's delicious!

As always the food is delicious and the service impeccable. We were lucky enough to eat on the tatami tonight, which is a great experience. If you are looking for a taste of Japanese cooking (they added some "sushi" to the menu, but I didn't try them), that is the address in Basel.

They have some quite authentic Japanese dishes, the best Japanese food I've tried in Switzerland so far. Service was excellent. Maybe it can do a bit more ventilation or AC inside during summer.
