Neela in Zürich

Delicious food, very friendly service, family atmosphere - we always like to come back! A second helping if you're really hungry is a given, and you can tell that the owners care deeply about the guests' satisfaction. Simply great!

Went to the restaurant today with 2 friends and it was like Neela again. Unique and delicious.

The food tasted like reheated leftovers from the day before yesterday: boring, dry, everything tasted exactly the same. And certainly not something you wanted to pay for. Very disappointing! Visually, the dishes were brown on brown. Far from suggestive! Our table neighbors left Neela after the first bite of the main course. I cannot recommend the restaurant and will definitely never go there again. Service and ambience were nice. Okay, if you just want to feed yourself - but 100 francs for 2 is way too much.

The food is average (main dishes don’t have much meat), but most importantly, it takes 45 min to get starters and 80 min to get main dishes, despite the staff being very friendly and helpful. Their kitchen capacity is too small for the number of tables they serve.

For me it was a surprise. Freshly cooked and delicately seasoned. And we were asked if we wanted seconds. Price for ZH cheap. Thanks to the Neela team. I'll definitely come back. Very nice and good service

The staff is incredibly generous and benevolent. The hosts radiate a pleasant positivity. It's fun to watch them at work. They cook incredibly delicious and authentic dishes. When it comes to drinks, I can particularly recommend the Mango Lassi. Everything actually tasted like it did back then in a high-end restaurant in Sri Lanka. Luckily we reserved a table in advance. The restaurant was crowded that lunchtime.

Food is very tasty. Service is also very good. The restaurant is a bit louder when it's full. It was like that before in the restaurant at the same location. Can recommend Neela!

Don't go there. We ordered food and they asked me if i wanted spicy or not. I told them "not spicy", and then they gave me a very spicy plate. That's okay, mistakes happen. So I told them and they said it wasn't spicy 😅 we ordered two other plates that we ate, but this one I tried as much as I could but I couldn't. In the end, they took my full plate and threw it away, no questions asked. I told them several times that it was too spicy and I couldn't eat it. It was not what I ordered and they knew it. They simply ignored what I was saying and charged me for the whole price, without any kind gesture. Rude. Please not that it is rare that I complain like that, you can check my other reviews. The service was very bad, and I want to warn people that it can ruin your experience there. For your information, it was on Saturday 5th January 2024, we were 3 customers, the last ones to order. The first waitress was very nice, but the last two ones, the ones closing the restaurant, were a disaster.

Cozy and easily accessible restaurant. Prices are very cheap by Zurich standards. The food and service is awesome. Lovely again!

One of the few gems to eat at in Zurich. Everything was delicious, the hospitality was excellent, and the atmosphere was incredible. I highly recommend eating here atleast once. The kottu rotti was my favorite.

What a hiden gem! The staff is so friendly. They have a small menu but the offer everything you need. I've had a mixed plated with different vegetarian stuff and everything was really delicious.

A Swiss friend introduced us to this restaurant. Apparently it’s been in Zurich a really long time and still remains family run with mother and daughter working in there to make sure customers enjoy the food and the experience. I can confirm the food is authentic and has lovely flavours that I don’t typically find in other Swiss Asian restaurants. Really tasty and also nice homely atmosphere and very reasonable prices. I will definitely go back as it’s so close to zurich HB and Europealle it’s easy to walk to on any day trips in Zurich

We went to Neela Restaurant for lunch. In terms of food, it's definitely 5 stars - the food was delicious, well seasoned and had the perfect spiciness! Unfortunately, the service was a bit understaffed that day and there was chaos - so we had to wait longer for the food and drinks (but it could have been an isolated incident that day). Nevertheless, the staff was friendly and accommodating. The place was full and there was a pleasant atmosphere. Price-performance ratio fair. So if you have a little time with you, you should try the place - really delicious!

The Neela is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Zurich. It offers authentic Sri Lankan dishes, is beautifully furnished and decorated and the service staff is very friendly and there is a family atmosphere.

Neela is a Multicultural Welcome Restaurant We recently went to Neela just for a casual lunch. What really stood out about Neela is how they welcome people from different backgrounds. It made us proud to see such inclusivity. To start, we had Chicken Samosas, which were mildly spicy but delicious. What made them special was the homemade Neela sauce. They even shared the recipe with us! Craving Sri Lankan food in Switzerland, for the main course we tried the Sri Lankan Kottu Rotti. It was fantastic and truly authentic, deserving a perfect score of 10/10. My husband ordered Chicken biryani, which was a bit unexpected. It came with flavorful rice (Briyani), along with Sri Lankan veg curries and chicken curry. While it wasn't what we expected, the flavors were still great. We enjoyed the curries with plain rice, savoring their authenticity. Neela's cleanliness and elegant interior design added to the experience. In short, we recommend Neela to anyone who appreciates authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. We plan to visit again and try their King Fish Curry Rice next time.

Had excellent experience having such nice srilankan food. Very tasty. We took a vegetable platter with rice. The platter had multiple veg items with lamb, which taste very close to my native country. I was surprised to find this one in city like zurich. Highly recommended.

Probably the worst Sri Lankan meal I have ever eaten. The dhal was burnt and mushy, the potatoes and cabbage were overcooked and bland. For CHF 25, they give you the tiniest piece of puttu possible. Not worth the price at all.

I have always eaten really well at Neela. The service and the ambience are top and the hosts are always friendly and round off the great stay at Neela. I'm always happy to come by. The Kottu Roti is my favorite and cannot be missed on the order.

Terrible experience here, food is significantly overpriced for very small portions. You would assume you’re getting quality for the price you’re paying. Waited an over an hour for food. Left still hungry. Wouldn’t recommend 0/10.

The Sri Lankan restaurant was truly delightful, capturing the authentic essence of Sri Lanka. The dishes served were incredibly scrumptious. Highly recommended and will come again soon.

Unfortunately no option to give 0 stars. These trails of bad reviews should be a wake up call to this restaurant. Disappointing experience after travelling from abroad and having been to Srilankan restaurants around the world. Chicken Biryani is enough to feed a toddler with barely any chicken. Please plan to grab food after eating here to satisfy your hunger.

One of the worst places to dine in. They give you half a plate of food and charge ridiculous price. We waited almost an hour for the food to arrive, please save your money and taste buds. Owner should do the consumers a favour and close the shop.

A horrible representation of Sri Lankan food. Overpriced for tiny portions. Chicken Biryani is some yellow fried rice with a little bit of chicken curry. AND I anticipated for this “chicken biryani” aka fried rice, for over 1.5 hours. Owners please take accountability for the horrible service and food.

Asked during Pride if you could use the toilets. A very unfriendly no from the host. When we offered to order shots, they refused or...our request was ignored (in standard German). Will avoid this place. A no is acceptable, but the tone should be friendly.

Very nice restaurant with real taste from Sri Lanka - we cook identically with friends from the island state! I thought it was particularly great that you didn't have to choose a curry, but rather that an assortment was served. The eggplant curry was my favorite! Priced on average in Zurich, 22 CHF for the vegetarian version, more if you want meat. The drinks, especially the regular salty lassi, were a bit weak. Our service was super nice and accommodating and there was a small appetizer on the house.

super delicious restaurant in Zurich! Very authentic, the food was just like back in Sri Lanka. The waitress was very friendly and even asked if it was enough, if we wanted more or if we needed more rice. Very attentive. We were there at lunchtime and pretty much alone, which was very pleasant. The price is definitely not right for Swiss standards - it was definitely worth the meal!

This place is fantastic. First off, we didn't have a reservation, but they sat us anyway without making us wait. Second, the service is very friendly and they spoke great English so we had no issues at all the language barrier. Third, the food was so far beyond what I was hoping for, I can easily say it was the best meal I've had so far in Europe! We're lucky enough to be staying close by, so I'm hoping to stop in again if our trip allows the time. It was absolutely fantastic all around.

Top spot for Sri Lankan food in Zurich 🤘🏼 warning, this is the first place that actually gives you proper spicy when you get spicy… 😅 Gave it four stars because the mains took an extremely long time to come out, and the back room gets really loud.

I was not satisfied at all! There’s no chance to select the curries. Even the curries were directly on the plate and we’re not served separately. Food was not fresh. I recognized it when they served directly from the smell. Kottu roti was not fresh at all. I would not recommend the restaurant to my friends.

We felt like we were back in Sri Lanka :) Overall, a fantastic restaurant with great service having all the typical Sri Lankan dishes such as Rice and Curry and Kottu Roti on their menu. Both dishes tasted amazing and I liked that they asked how spicy they should prepare them.

One of my favorite dishes is Kotthu Rotti, which is typically Sri Lankan. The atmosphere was great, it was very relaxing and very quiet in general. The plate was beautifully designed and the food tasted very tasty. However, the food was too spicy for me personally.

Just now ordered biriyani from Neela by paying 23 chf. Is it actually biriyani or curry you guys are serving . I recommend you guys to check what is biriyani in youtube! Should eat curry now?? Very nice restaurant right at the main train station! At the entrance we were greeted very friendly by the boss. The restaurant was full, but I didn't feel any rush during service. Although we had to wait a little longer for the food, it tasted excellent! I had a starter plate of samosa, lamb roll and kadala vadai. After that I had the masala dosai, my guests had puttu with vegetables, kottu rotti and rotti with vegetables. For all dishes (rice, puttu, rotti) you get 4 different curries - enough for an evening meal. All in all, very good service, delicious authentic food and a beautiful, clean restaurant. Most beautiful toilet ever!
