NICE Gastrobar @ Niederdorf in Zürich

I stumbled into the NICE Gastropub a few weeks ago whilst ambling around Zurich, with no real plan in mind. I must admit that I was hooked by the English name "NICE".......and let me tell you, it's very accurate!! Not only is the food prepared with thought, creativity and the freshest of ingredients......ALL of the staff live up to the "NICE" in the name of this quiet gem located in Zurich's Altstadt district. Be sure to check it out - you won't be disappointed!!!

Food and service are top notch!

We chose the 4-course surprise menu for 108 or 90 CHF (meat & veggies) - the best decision. Little by little we are served super tasty courses. The service is attentive, friendly and very accommodating. Every dish is exceptional, sophisticated and incredibly tasty, we were really impressed. This concept, the fine dishes and the hospitality of the operators make it fun and leave you wanting more. Price/performance absolutely fine. Thank you for the great evening!

Small but nice & simply great! The service is super attentive and the cuisine is incredibly delicious. You definitely have to try the 4-course menu. The Homemade Truffle Pasta was the best pasta I have ever eaten. Keep it up!! See you next time!

After so many positive reviews and as person who likes to support new restaurants I choose NICE for a lunch. What was supposed to be pre birthday lunch with close colleagues was not a NICE experience, more accurately it was a TERRIBLE experience. We arrived at around noon (busiest eating time) to an empty restaurant in the middle of Old City. Perhaps , this should have been enough to cause initial suspicion. One positive thing, the waiter was very polite, friendly and accommodating and the place looked cute and cozy. We did not opt out for daily lunch menu but decided to order from al a carte the following items: 1. NICE Saku – the flavor was a bit odd , pieces were cold and most likely served from fridge. We did not complain about this one because we already complained about the next appetizer. Right now and after an overall experience, we are looking at our watch and hoping the food poisoning does not kick in! 2. Panierter Mini Sepia – this was unchewable undefined item. When we complained, cook said we were the first customers to order this in two weeks and most likely product is defective. We just hope we were not served two week old squid!! 3. 2 Wilder Kabeljau - the smell arrived before the plate. All of us who eat fish know the only allowed smell of fish is sea smell. Anything else is very risk and dangerous to try. The smell of this plate was so repelling we did not dare to try even a tiny bite. According to cook this was a completely fine dish! This questions his understanding on fresh fish and what should be served to customers. 4. Chicken pita – ok for an after clubbing meal at some train station 5. Schnitzel – ok To conclude , if not corrected immediately , this place will close very soon. If you go now , In best case you will not enjoy it and in worse you will end up with food poisoning. The cook was annoyed by our comments , we were not charged for our order but that was not the point nor enough to compensate for our disappointment.

Although the waiters were very nice, they were not very professional. It also seemed as if it was everyone’s first working day. Unfortunately we did not have a nice dining experience either. Both the starter and main course I had selected were not available. When the newly selected main course arrived, it was very tasteless and the meat was overcooked when I had ordered it medium rare. My friends pinza dough (type of pizza) was quite undercooked. Overall, the four of us were not satisfied with our dinner.

Excellent service and food quality

This time it was a 4-course meal for Fr. 90.00... We were allowed to choose from the menu ourselves, what a joy! The food was excellent! Exciting creations prepared with a lot of love! Very attentive service staff… Price-performance ratio is absolutely right. If we could eat out every day… Best food ever!

We spent a lovely time in this tiny yet very creative restaurant. Chef is inspired by his multiple life’s around the world. As a consequence the plates are enjoying very well thought associations that magnify the product itself. Food was really good. Staff is efficient and friendly. We spent a lovely time. Thanks a lot!

A very cool and very fine fish and sea restaurant, the chef is a fish master and has it completely under control... I will have more enthusiasm for fish again... We had the 4-course Suprise and a Pinot Noir from beautiful Neuchâtel... Everything together with a café and two bottles of wine... around 450.00 chf I can only recommend this pearl... Roman has brought a good restaurant to the Zurich gastronomy... thank you for everything and see you again soon.

The menu is a mix of rather interesting and tasty dishes, some are really outstanding, some less. Pulled pork - super, black cod - not really… Nice atmosphere, cool waiters and trendy place - good for light food and drinks !!!
