Portofino in Thalwil

Pizzas are amazing but the rest…. Not so great. They also have the audacity to charge you almost CHF 10 for water from the tab 😅 that’s really a big joke! Again, except for pizza and location, I would not go.

Portofino has a sleek and retro-chic ambiance that I love. Add to that a staff that combines professionalism, warmth and fun plus a great chef you’ll like me want to come back often. I had dinner with a colleague and we both started with carpaccio pimentos which embodied perfectly the elegance and simplicity of Italian cuisine. For the main we chose the branzino in crosta di sale -sea bass in salt crust and lemon herb aioli- with grilled vegetables and truffled potatoes on the side. Deceptively unassuming this course was a delightful surprise.The fish was wonderfully fresh, perfectly prepared and forged a very happy synergy with the lemon herb aioli. We ended our dinner with dai dai, a delectable ice praline coated with chocolate. Worth mentioning is also the wine list -pairing food and wine after all is an integral part of Italian culture- where the franciacorte and the merlot both turned out to be great choices.

Great service and fine food. The only point of criticism: it is extremely loud inside with the windows and doors closed.

Nice atmosphere, but also relatively loud and a bit exposed if you have a table in the middle of the pavilion. Portions are not very large, but there is enough for a dessert or starter. The service was attentive and the food was served quickly. All in one a nice restaurant!

I was in the restaurant with my girlfriend last night and I was thrilled not only by the kitchen but also by the staff. The service from Mr. Luca, an Italian gentleman, was super, very friendly and attentive. We'll definitely come back again.

I have been here a couple of times and I really recommend it. The pizzas are amazing, the service is really friendly and attentive and the atmosphere and location is beautiful. A good option for a nice date or for a meeting with friends.

Food and service was great. Though the car park was full and was really small. We had to park far away and walk in the rain.

It is an expensive place, except pizza and pasta. Pizzas are delicious but small. Desserts come in very small portions and are expensive. Tiramisu was very expensive and tasteless

Booked two weeks in advance, but got a place next to the kitchen in the evening. I think it is very sad.

The service at Portofino is outstanding, the staff attentive and friendly.Valentin (managing director) personally came to our table to make sure everything met our expectations. At Portofino you can expect not only delicious food, but also an authentic atmosphere. Under the direction of Valentin, every visit becomes a culinary experience. The best really is the atmosphere and the Christmas decoration inside and outside was really lovely. However, the pizza was not the best because we didn't expect the spicy salami pizza to come with onion. Also the Primitivo red wine was not the best (we usually love Primitivo and also pizza with spicy salami). The Cola Zero was also rather with little gas left. The tiramisu was fine. The service was fine, too. In total 4*, but we would have hoped for more.

Haven't been here for a long time but will definitely go again soon. Wonderful Italian cuisine with good fresh products and a beautiful lake view.

One of the most beautiful restaurants on the lake

We were there for the first time for my girlfriend's birthday. The restaurant is very inviting, the feeling of space is great because the ceiling is high. Because we were there at the end of October, the restaurant had already put up the Christmas decorations. The waiters are very friendly and well trained. There was no shortage of Italian food to choose from, so we decided on a pizza. The pizza was delicious, not too big, but not too small either. For a location right on the lake, the Pizza Margherita (19.-) is surprisingly cheap. Gladly again.

Excellent food! The waiter also apologized to us twice because we had to wait 20 minutes for our pizza (which isn't really long). We were given dessert for the 20 minutes we had to wait... very accommodating! Top restaurant!

As we've noticed, there have been noticeably fewer stars in the last few weeks. Maybe you shouldn't skimp on the operation. We were still not served a pizza after 1 hour (after mentioning it twice). Even the best location is no use...

A very nice place. The staff is simply fantastic. Friendly and attentive. Without saying anything we were served rolls with a delicious hot sauce on them. That's a rarity these days. No matter whether pizza, meat or fish, everything is prepared perfectly. Prices are very reasonable for such a beautiful location.

Food was good. But the prices are quite high (even for Zurich standards) We had to wait a very long time (50 minutes) for our pizzas. The other two menus were not served at the same time. When asked, the meat dishes arrived with a delay of around 5-10 minutes. The waitress was friendly and apologized for the wait with a coffee.

Wow wow! We had dinner there with the company in the evening. Mega cool location right on the lake. There are parking spaces right next door. The equipment was really not zero eight fifteen. You were kidnapped into another world. The staff wore short shorts, which I thought was really great given the heat. Something different and as you can see, the service is also possible and still well maintained! The food was incredibly good and the plates were really generously filled. So you don't go home hungry here. Burrata, Parma ham, octopus salad, surf and turf, potatoes with truffle, etc. It was really a successful evening

As in all Péclard businesses, very motivated service employees who take enormous pleasure in the cuisine. A holiday atmosphere arises on the terrace of the Portofino.

Pizza was good but not fantastic. Service was very friendly. The outside seating area is rustic (don't come for a romantic dinner) and next to it is a playground. So if you want to come before 8pm, make sure you like running, crying and shouting kids. Afterwards you will be able to enjoy a non-fancy, very casual and relaxed dinner.

We received extremely friendly service there. The food was delicious and even though it was full we didn't have to wait long. The ambience and the view are simply great. The in-house tiramisu is highly recommended as a finale.

I went once in the afternoon for a drink. The experience was somewhat strange. The service was one of the worst I’ve had in a while. The staff was not attentive I had to literally shout to get anyone’s attention after waiting for 20 minutes before we even got a menu. Once we had made a choice we were told that they weren’t even serving what was on the menu (except for pizza) at the particular time. We had to wait another 20 minutes to get a simple Aperol Spritz. It was a rainy day and thus not busy whatsoever, staff walked past our table and seemed to ignore us on purpose. It was ridiculous. It’s a real shame because the location itself next to the lake is lovely. However, if you want to give it a try I suggest going in the evening because a) they actually serve food and b) the interior design is a lot nicer than the big (mostly shared) tables outside which gives it more of a picnic vibe.

Really love this small restaurant right next tot the water. The food is really good in my opinion and the waiters also wear a smile on their faces. It’s definitely on my recommendation list for people looking to eat next to the lake :)

Very bad service and the food wasn't good. The ingredients of the pizza were floating and very bland.

Wonderful, lucky we were able to book lunch on Friday with fairly short notice and sat outside in the lovely garden. The inside winter garden has also been designed with great charm with white umbrellas high up. We had the Seabream, Lemon Raviolis and grilled vegetables followed by Panna Cotta and chocolates with great espressos. Super service, professional, friendly and sympathetic. Right by the lake so incredible views while sitting under the trees in the shade. Can’t wait to return soon.

We, my husband and I, wanted to eat at Portofino, there were 2-3 tables available, one of them right on the lake, 2 at the back with a group of people where it was very loud. We wanted to eat directly by the lake, but the waiter refused and said that another group of four could come and then they would get the table... an absolute no go... 👎🏻 After that, an older couple, who were also two people, received it , the table right by the lake. We were probably too simple for the scene! We paid for our mineral water (CHF 9.50 for a bottle of water!!) and left without eating. It was uncomfortably narrow, very loud and the staff was very unprofessional and unfriendly! Never again!

A great place the Portofino. The glass pavilion offers a brilliant view of the lake - you don't even have to sit at the window. The food was A1 - the wines too. We just arrived at 6 p.m. and the waiters weren't as attentive (it took a while before we were asked about an aperitif, etc.) - although they were friendly when we were at the table. A dark corridor to the toilet, unfortunately poorly lit and a bit blocked with a cloakroom, made it necessary to ask. Ultimately a great place. I'll be back.

Food was quite ok. Service from some waiters was also amusing and quite ok. BUT the service as a whole unfortunately left a lot to be desired. If we were celebrating a bachelorette party, this was also communicated when we reserved the table. Unfortunately, neither the table was decorated a bit nor a word was said about it... it's a shame, I would have imagined it differently... The service seems as if they didn't need it, the shop runs even without their attentive service... So At these prices I would have liked better service. It's a shame, I definitely won't come here again.

Good location, very friendly boss who takes reservations, quality of food very good. Two chefs were unavailable that evening, the slightly longer waiting times were politely announced and the guests were taken care of.

A rotunda as a restaurant with a beautiful view of the lake, directly on a private pier. The outside area is lovely as you sit under several trees with a large foliage covering almost the entire outside area. There was also a light breeze that day. Very pleasant! Large selection of pizzas, several fish dishes and pastas as well as desserts. What more do you want! The only drawback is that if you want to come for lunch and enjoy the food in peace, you should make a reservation at 11:30 a.m. because it closes at 2:30 p.m.! At 5:30 p.m. it continues until midnight. To be fair, we placed a larger order of drinks and desserts and the “innkeeper” let us sit outside. Then we also brought the glasses and dishes into the kitchen area.

Not as it used to be and they close the kitchen at 9:30! And last time the service was unprofessional and plain rude on top it..

Dear readers, We had dinner at Portofino last week, the pizza was very bland, had no taste and unfortunately the dough wasn't crispy either. The spaghetti vongole (without vongole) was pretty tasteless the sauce consisted of two three tomatoes and garlic, The experience at Lake Zurich was great. Nice ambience by the lake, it's a shame that you can't be served inside the restaurant when the weather is nice because it started to rain. This time the food wasn't optimal, the pasta was very lightly salted and not "al dente". The fish in the salt coating was excellent. Our waiter was great too. It's a shame, because we know Portofino differently.

They have a big variety of pizza and other italian foods, a nice selection of wines and good tiramisu.

Great atmosphere, but the worst and blandest pizza I've ever eaten. The pasta was just as bland - it was homemade. The service was ok, the coffee was watery/sour and lukewarm. Price/performance is definitely not right. We don't recommend it!

Very nice view. Worth visit even for the view and greenhouse. Food was hit and miss. Bolognese was a huge portion and tasty. Unfortunately clam pasta was tasteless

Unfortunately very bad service, The starter and main course were not ordered and after a very long wait we received them I complained about the dishes several times, I had the impression “they don’t need it”, it’s always full. No coffee as a small compensation, really not recommended! The waiter only spoke English, I really wondered if this was a quality restaurant?

The staff is a total loss. If you don't want to eat, you shouldn't be forced.

The Portofino is a glass house on the lake without air conditioning. It only has a few parking spaces of its own. A reservation without providing credit card details is not possible. The service is absolutely incompetent and overwhelmed. The food was run of the mill and way too expensive for the portion size. I have no idea why you should eat here unless you want to pay for the view.

If you don't want to eat, you're not welcome there...

Very cosy place by the lake for family lunches and romantic dinners. Good food with vast ranges of pizza, seafood and pasta. Great pulp carpaccio. European dishes. Next to the playground so good for kids. Has parking but not always available.
