We came here for the chef's 5 course tasting menu and loved every moment. When I made a reservation I noted that we had a birthday in the group and they made sure he felt special the whole time! This included having a happy birthday hand down card on the table, singing him happy birthday, and an extra little birthday treat at the end. We loved it! One server (I forgot his name) started the meal with us and was very kind and professional. Fabi then continued with us through until dessert, a special birthday treat, and topping off the meal with some schnapps and an espresso. The food was wonderful and the experience with Fabi was incredible! We had a great time laughing with her, asking questions about the dishes, and learning more about Zermatt for skiing, food, and some of the history of the homes/buildings here. We will absolutely come back when we return to Zermatt and hope she is still here! We highly recommend the 5 course tasting menu! Thank you to Fabi, the server that began eith us, and the whole Potato team!

After finding this fine dining establishment on the Michelin guide, we made a reservation the night before on their website. Very much like a Michelin star restaurant, we had superb service and pacing of the entire meal by an experienced waiter. He explained all the dishes in detail, and ensured that we had everything we needed at our table for a premier dinner. We had the five-course menu—both the pescatarian and standard one—and both were great. The only difference between the two was the main course. (We dined in March of 2024.) Truly mimicking art, each dish, no matter how small, had an amazing amount of detail given to it. The small crisp with sour creme and radish slices set the tone for the remainder of the meal—smaller portions with out-of-this world flavor. This particular menu emphasized savory ice creams early on, with flavors like carrot and onion. The onion flavor—and especially the way in which it was served, alongside candied onions, baked cheese crumbles, and an onion-flavored gelatinous wafer—stole the show. The carrot one, however, was just as good but emphasizing carrot flavors. The black truffle one was, similarly, to die for. The bread was the best I had while in Zermatt. Full stop. Butter too. We had almost two whole loaves across the three of us. Dessert came in the form of a semi-solid apple popsicle and a decomposed, fine dining take on a tiramisu. Followed up with a shot of espresso, that dinner could not have been beat. I’d highly recommend the wine pairing, which was a reasonable 60 CHF for four drinks throughout—a glass of sparkling wine, a glass of white, red, and finally a flowery aperitif.

On our last trip to Zermat, in 2022, we could not get into Potato. This year's trip, we managed to get a reservation, it was mid week, and so the whole town was relatively sleepy (which was good). My wife and I had the 5 course with wine pairing. A little more plant based than I think we were expecting, but the restaurant's name is potato, so we shouldn't have been surprised. All the courses were excellent. With one criticism, the course that had the egg, it felt a little flat there wasn't enough complexity - everything just tasted the same. Upon collecting our plates the manager (owner?) came over and asked if we would share our thoughts on the dish. We gave her the direct feedback and she took it seriously. She even had an off menu dish made for us as a consolation. But that was it. The wine pairing was excellent. The post dinner schnapps and conversation with the waiter and manager were also great. Will we go there on next year's trip? YES.

It’s fine. It is kind of weird atmosphere with all the bright light and very quiet. Food is really just below average. If you are going to serve chicken for entree. You should finesse it. Overall Nothing special at all about this place. Go to Stockhorn or chalet da giuseppe instead! I know good food. This is pretty bad.

Every dish was so sweet! By the end I was nauseous and had to cancel dessert! The quality of the food was not the problem, the problem was mainly how the combined flavours. Delicate tastes such as caviar were completely overpowered by the cellery for example, and that was the problem with every dish. And once again way too sweet!! The food looked better than it tasted. The service was good and they have good local wine. We were disappointed and ended up paying almost 200 CHF per person!

We were in this restaurant for the third time at the beginning of 2024. The very special concept – all the main ingredients come from a radius of 99 km – not only makes sense ecologically, but also from a culinary point of view. In the menus there are products to discover or rediscover that have been forgotten or that you simply didn't know about. Everything prepared with classic cuisine, but to my great delight also interpreted in a new way! The cuisine is also ideal for people with a vegetarian diet. The main focus of the wine list is quickly explained: Valais. Nothing else for us. There are countless drops to discover that you can't get anywhere else. The wine list leaves nothing to be desired and is put together in a knowledgeable manner. Terrific! Also worth mentioning is the familiar, hospitable and warm atmosphere. The modern restaurant on three floors is modern, cozy and stylish. We felt very comfortable. The hostess and staff are extremely friendly, helpful and very attentive.

Cool place, but terribly over priced for the quality of food that you get. The set menu is 150 CHF / person and I personally don't think the food was worth over 80 CHF, as it was not that good.

WATCH OUT! This is not fine dining restaurant and with that quality they will not be one soon! Food was nothing exceptional, average at best, customer service like in near gas station restaurant(waiters didn’t even know what is on the plate) - to get to fine dining you need to have some quality control over your company and aim to be better. Concept of everything is local within 50km is nice, supporting local businesses - but it’s only words not real life experience. I would be ok if it was for half price you are actually charging( restaurant is very expensive ). I wish you will read this review and put more effort and look into your restaurant from the kitchen to the waiters and improve everything to get to the point you can name your restaurant fine dining. We happened upon this restaurant and I am so glad we did! From the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcomed. Fabi (who would also turn out to be our fabulous waiter) explained the concept of the restaurant to us: everything is from within 50 km of the restaurant and you have the choice of a 3 or 5 course set menu. We opted for the 3 and it was perfect. The food is delicious and creative, but the absolute best part of our experience was the service. Fabi and the other waiters were kind and attentive and just a lot of fun. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a meal here.❤️

We were seated on the first floor, but the seats were high and the tables were small, making it difficult to eat. The food is normal.

So disappointed. Most expensive meal we have had in Europe and nothing was memorably good. Overcooked fish and most dishes on the tasting menu were too salty (and I love salt). Veal was the highlight but again the jus was salty. They squeezed in an “offering” of a cheese plate that we didn’t even want and then charged 20 Swiss francs extra. Just disappointing. Had much better meals elsewhere for less than half of the price. Maybe we just got a bad tasting menu or a bad night. Highlight was my partner and the nice couple sitting next to us in the nice ambiance. Feedback is to take a look at the menu, pricing and expectations for an expensive place like this in Zermatt.

Potato Fine food was amazing. Til date i could still remember the taste of the incredible starter- salmon with yuzu jelly, and it is a taste i would never forget. Service was impeccable and the overall experience certainly contributed to the great time we had at Zermatt!

We are a family of four who consider ourselves well travelled and believe that one of the most enjoyable experiences to be had with travel is to enjoy a local restaurant that is well executed. We spent my birthday at Potato. What a fabulous choice. It is easily one of the best restaurants we have visited. It could fall victim of being pretentious about its exquisite food, perfect ambience, and ideal location, but is immediately warm and friendly - as though you are walking into a long lost friend’s home. The wait staff are quick to smile, have perfect timing, have in-depth knowledge about the menu (in multiple languages!), and appear to thoroughly enjoy being part of Potato. We chose the five course menu with wine to complement; it was superb. Each course was a delight of color, flavor, and presentation presented with pride by the wait staff. There were many layers to each course with the sauces alone warranting focused attention. The butter is made each day and apparently the goal is guess the flavors it has been infused with. We had 2 different butters - licorice (yep!) in one, and carrot and honey in the other (I think). Each course was of perfect quantity to leave you satisfied at the end of the meal. I think my favorite was the warm starter of Swiss egg, potato and caviar - intense flavor packed into a visually superb egg. Actually, I changed my mind, the salmon, chorizo, pepper and eggplant was incredible and surpassed the starter. I could go on. This is a reasonably priced, special experience that should be on your list of places to visit while in Zermatt, or indeed Switzerland. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

This review is long overdue! My girlfriend and I took a vacation to Zermatt in December '22 and this was one of the places we had dinner. What an experience! We were treated extremely well throughout the meal, with the entire service team talking to us about the food, drinks, and the area. They made us feel like family despite us being very obvious tourists. I do not remember all of the specific dishes, but I do remember being very happy with everything that was served to us. The freshly baked bread and house butter I could live off of alone. I'm not usually one for fancy tiny portions, but I remember all of the courses flowing well together and feeling satisfied regarding portion sizes at the end of the meal. Our reservation was a little on the late side, so when we were finished with our meal we were the only party left at the restaurant. The staff offered us local schnapps and we sat and chatted with them long past their posted closing time. I'll never forget the hospitality shown to us. Overall, one of the best dining experiences I've ever had, highly recommend if it's within budget.

The worst ‘fine dining’ experience I have had in my life. Went for the 5-course tasting menu and none of the dishes were even close to the standard expected for the price charged. Highly recommend to go somewhere else

Food 6/5 I enjoyed the food here more than at Prato Borni. A Michelin star must be on its way. It was so good they can charge more for this. Service 2/5 But with this service, forget the Michelin or higher price. Employees seemed to have memorized whatever was distributed for the day's dishes and needed help understanding the menu better. And as much as I appreciate that they speak English for tourists from English-speaking countries, they need to improve to service, especially to even par with the food they serve. Often the servers didn't understand my question and answered me for something I didn't ask about, and they were so quiet and mumbling I could not even hear what they were saying clearly.

Staff was friendly and welcoming. We did the 5-course menu w/o wine pairing and it took 2.5hrs. Each course had some interesting concept that I normally wouldn’t try. Very cool that the ingredients are within 50km of the area. I wish that each course would be served warmer- it seemed like the food had been sitting for a bit before arriving or something.

Staff was friendly, but patrons on each side of us brought dogs to dinner. I am allergic and had to leave during the second course. The website says nothing about being dog friendly, so beware of the barnyard atmosphere.

We bought a bottle of Valais Prosecco late in the evening and received the bottle at the take-away price without being asked. We found this very nice!

This is the only pre fixe restaurant, I visited, where service is warm and friendly. They truly make you feel welcome and comfortable. Excellent food, great wine list, and the locally sourced “Petit Arvin” grappa is the best I ever had.

We were the first customers for dinner, at 7pm. The restaurant filled up quite fast. I was very pleasantly surprised, most the dishes has sauce that they pour in front of you. And everything including the wine is locally sourced. The beer was more national. There was a nice IPA that had won some Swiss awards. The first dish was a beetroot layered with cheese, and a crayfish caviar cracker. It was quite nice. We all had the 5 course set menu, which changes every once in a while, we had a host that explained all the dishes. It was very well done. Thank you. Oh for the pre-dessert it is a foamy mulled wine. I'm not a big fan, but it's small so I just finished it, but none of the kids liked it. I would like if they had a kid friendly alternative to the pre-dessert. But the chocolate dessert was very nice.

This was the first time we visited Potato Fine Food. We visited on a Friday evening, to our surprise the restaurant was not very busy. The restaurant has seating on three floors. It is very tastefully decorated. There is a three course or five course menu option. The menu changes weekly. We chose the five course meal. The quality of the food and the presentation of the dishes were excellent, rivaling some of the best restaurants we have visited. We also chose the optional cheese course. The service is knowledgeable and friendly. This is a great addition to the Zermatt food scene, adding an excellent contemporary dining choice. We highly recommend this restaurant. I know we will visit it again.

Enjoyable evening with teething problems - the reception in the restaurant was a bit cool. I decide on a Heida sparkling wine as an aperitif and we had the 3-course menu with the warm starter of potato spaghetti with summer truffles and the main course of pike perch. There were also two amuses bouches on the menu. The table next to us, which was occupied later, received the amuses immediately, we waited in vain. Only when the aperitif had been drunk were there the amuses, which would have gone very well with the sparkling wine, especially because my wife didn't take an aperitif. Afterwards we were served a beautiful cold pepper creation as a starter, which we hadn't ordered. Two more tables were occupied in the meantime, the first of which received the starter that we had ordered before us. As When the time finally came, the bread was still missing. If it hadn't been for this foreplay, I could have given 5 points without hesitation, because what the boss conjured up on the plates in the kitchen showed true skill, from the amusements to the dessert. In terms of taste, everything was perfectly balanced, harmonized and was very well seasoned. The food was convincing, but the service was lacking. All in all, it was an enjoyable evening at a high culinary level.

Our experience in Potato restaurant was great! Food was delicious with a very nice presentation of the dishes. The service very carrying to every detail. Super 5-course dinner (2 starters, 2 main courses, pre-dessert + dessert) with wine pairing. Friendly and smiling staff. The succession of dishes, sought after, is in the right tempo. Local and quality products, mastery of cooking and seasoning. The menu is changed every week, which gives the opportunity to come and eat during future visits. Thank you for your welcome.

The short version: interesting, innovative concept, friendly service, but some processes can still be improved. That evening we chose the 3-course menu with a cold starter (fish) and the fish and meat main course. Our table, beautifully arranged, is on the first floor near the window overlooking Bahnhofstrasse. The greetings from the kitchen and the appetizer open the event and tasted excellent (even if a few parts of the perch were a bit tough). The main course (lamb) doesn't benefit from the combination with artichoke (a bit too unusual for my taste) and unfortunately the doneness is no longer really pink when the plate arrives at my table. After a decent cheese plate, we unfortunately wait a long time for the two desserts, a melon shot and raspberry ice cream. Neither can quite maintain the level of the beginning of the menu. After almost 2 1/2 hours we leave the restaurant, a little depressed from sitting for so long. We wish you much success and hope that the potato can establish itself in Zermatt - it would certainly be an enrichment.

Another culinary highlight in Zermatt. The philosophy: "Here we go back to the origins, to the roots in the truest sense of the word. Because almost all products and suppliers come from a radius of just 50 kilometers." The result is excellent! The multi-course menu offers excellent flavor combinations, creative dishes, beautifully presented. The service is very friendly and accommodating, the hostess is extremely personable. By the way: In the evening there is a weekly changing 3- or 5-course menu, and at lunchtime there is a (not too large) à la carte menu.

I had a "Michelin should check out" excellent dinner in Zermatt, trying my luck to get in on a Saturday, late evening. Thanks to the wonderful Lady, I got my chance. The starter of a young Chef- Alexandre Libert-(apologies if typo) was something phenomenal I have never tried before and blowed my taste buds. I need to mention, I love to try Michelin star restaurants.... I therefore want to recommend to everyone, who wants to explore "more than usuals" @"Potato" is a must. Service was incredibly friendly, and the food was local, delicious and beautiful! Great experience all around, would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice dinner in Zermatt. The 3 course meal was a LOT of food, so probably best to be quite hungry if you’re going for the 5 course option.

A place worth mentioning to eat in Zermatt, starting with the very welcoming and intimate location. We chose the three-course tasting menu built using mostly local products. The appetizer of crunchy broccoli, goat's cheese, peaches and toasted sunflower seeds accompanied by a killer pistachio butter is very interesting. Excellent main course: perfectly cooked entrecote, aubergines both grilled and quenelled, wild asparagus, truffle. The dessert which combined egg white quenelles with crème de cassis was very good. The idea of ​​being able to choose the bread they produce in many varieties for each course is excellent. Finally, both the pre-starter and the pre-dessert are very tasty. The staff are attentive and very kind. Finally, the price of 99 francs is also worth praising given that Zermatt is a place where a margherita pizza, a beer and a dessert cost you 40 francs. Absolutely recommended

The server asked (in English) if we had any dietary restrictions first thing. We have 2 gluten free and all 4 vegetarian in our family. The menu indicated allergens in all items. The server spoke with the kitchen and offered us an additional GF vegetarian dish that was not on the menu. We were even served GF rolls. It was a delicious experience.

Five of us spent a wonderful evening in this restaurant. The food (three course menu) was magically good and very nicely presented. The service was very attentive and friendly, good wine recommendations for every course.

Our favorite restaurant in Zermatt! We have eaten at this establishment several times and each time we have been amazed by what was served to us. All the dishes are tasty, beautiful and original. In addition, local products are cooked. The service is warm and diligent, the wines are also excellent. In short: we highly recommend it!

Wonderful meal with fresh ingredients. Best meal I had in Zermatt. They change their menu very often. Great wine selection. Can’t wait to go back.

Very nice diner and great staff. They were informed by our hotel that it was our honeynoon and they made it a special evening for us with roses and a personal card from the staff. Excellent service and very fine dining.

Went for dinner in late June. So glad that I had the 5 courses menu. All dishes were very good and pork belly with the truffle sauce was amazing. A nice place to eat for summertime in Zermatt.

Dear team, what you do is really sensational and hard to beat! We enjoyed our evening with you to the fullest and the food was not only surprising, it was sensational in its creation and especially described as excellent by our gourmet friends. There are another 5 stars for the junior boss, who has created and stylishly decorated most of the modern furnishings of the restaurant on 3 levels herself. We have only ever seen something like this in Austria at the Hotel Steinerwirt in Lofer, where two ladies also work very successfully. All the best and we will definitely come back! LG from Salzburg

Surprising farm to table concept. Everything sourced from 50km. Food: The food was very good. Inventive and creative, flavorful and well seasoned. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared with good balance between salt, fat and acid. Plates are small so if you have any sort of appetite would highly recommend the 5 course tasting menu. We had a few legitimate food allergies and a genuine celiac with us and they were incredibly careful and thoughtful in their consideration for them; even including the bread. Drink: The wine card was excellent with lots of delightful wines to choose from. The cocktails were well crafted and as thoughtful as the courses. Ambiance: It lacks a little. The place has got interesting decor, great charm and some character, but it’s a bit too quiet and just to dry. Some warmth would make this place exceptional. Service: The service was very good. They served the table as one expects in a top level fine dining establishment. The servers could be a little a more warm and interactive, but they’re clearly very well trained and attentive almost without fault; may even described as robotic.

Tradition and modernity - this magical contrast best describes the philosophy of Potato in Zermatt. All ingredients come from Zermatt itself or the surrounding area. Classic flavors and combinations are creatively reinterpreted. We were there for the second time, this time with family & friends - we had a choice of a 3 or 5 course menu. As described above, the kitchen team manages to bring special wow effects to the plate using regional ingredients. The whole thing is rounded off by the special warmth of the owner and her team. A big thank you for the successful evening and the culinary pampering program.

Food was simply amazing. Only drawback- the waitress could have been a little bit nicer, and take more than 30s at our table. Could hardly ask for more drinks, she would run away so fast.

Best gastronomic experience of my life, polite chefs, friendly, smiling staff, phenomenal food! They like Brazilians, the restaurant has the price of a Michelin, but it's not far behind, it's just missing the star. Without a doubt, I recommend it.
