Unfriendly, bad service, just inadequate. The tip was declined because it did not meet the American 15% standard. Didn't feel welcome. We won't come anymore

Dog-unfriendly, special regulations??? Apparently only 1 dog is allowed in the restaurant. So if you want to have a cafe after a hike in Raten and you have your dog with you, you first have to send someone ahead to check whether there is already one inside.......otherwise you will be turned away. This is an absolute NO GO! Either all or none at all. Definitely not recommended!

Customer needs are not taken into account and plates are not allowed to be adjusted. There are no vegetarian children's plates.

Food: Was very good! Except the ketchup sachet was just thrown onto the pomes (picture) that is a nogo! They use something like philladelphia in combination with cheese as a part of the inner fill of the cordonbleu - strange but i liked it. the prices were normal. Atmosphere: Cute and cozy, weve been there for lunch and on Saturday on a sunny day. unfortunately there were a lot of people in the restaurant also wearing ski-shooes. And soo many families!! also in our case we had to reserve othersise it would probably be impossible to get a gable without waiting. service: it was fast but we had someone who couldn’t speak well german and i had to ask to resay the spoken text… also he told us that they are not able to deliver the cordonbleu with noodles rather than fries. He just said. „no, you cant have that“ and i was like „what??“ so i had to be satisfied with my damn pommes :(

This is by far the most unfriendly and rude service I have ever experienced. Price-performance is not nearly right. Unfortunately, since this is the only place to eat here, they can and will continue to allow themselves to do anything. It's a shame - it was the last time for us!

My wife and I had lunch at the restaurant. The food was very good. The service was extremely quick and prompt. We were served in a friendly and kind manner by Mrs. Annabert. Thank you very much, we'll be happy to come back.

The restaurant/caffè’ is in a beautiful location with spectacular views and sunsets. Friendly staff! Very nice homemade cakes and hot drinks! Delicious homemade chai latte and cassis punch (non-alcoholic). There is also a restaurant service which we will try next time!

Mini portions, overpriced prices (even for Zurich residents who are used to high prices), certain dogs are allowed in the restaurant and certain ones are not, and strollers were also unwelcome. The instructing, receiving service employee was very unfriendly. Conclusion: we didn't feel welcome!

The restaurant looks very inviting, almost a bit like a fairytale land with the Christmas decorations already there. I find the restaurant itself cozy, but the furnishings with the special color combinations and decoration seem a bit “kitschy”. The service initially seems a bit arrogant and unfocused. The menu offers a large selection, but what was surprising was that when it came to meat dishes, there was hardly any veal on offer but mostly pork! If you prefer the classic, nobler versions such as veal schnitzel, cream schnitzel, etc., you are unfortunately out of place here and you are forced to come to terms with alternatives to chicken meat or pork. At least a venison ragout or venison schnitzel was offered on the menu and the taste was okay. At first impression the plates seemed lavish, but unfortunately there was very little meat underneath the "decoration". Almost every dish was decorated with a "bouquet" of currants and dried orange slices and unfortunately also on the desserts, such as a Coupe Nesselrode, where this doesn't fit at all. The restaurant has its own special “idiosyncrasies” and is definitely not a true gastronomic highlight. But definitely worth a visit after a great panoramic walk. Whether inside or on the great outdoor terrace, where you can also enjoy a warm soup or bratwurst.

I've been here a few times, especially around Christmas time. Very beautiful heavenly lighting, decorations and very friendly and lovely staff. I even got a little something from the kitchen to try out. The prices are reasonable for the place, and they serve very fine ice cream and teas. I'd love to come back. There are also a lot of parking spaces.

No matter whether with the Porsche, toddler or both. Here the dad is happy about the crisp street and the child is happy about the playground.

Really great! We spontaneously ended up at the Rates restaurant on the way home and will certainly come regularly. Excellent food but also super friendly and professional service! Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Therefore definitely 5 stars! We will be back!

Overall, great for non-allergic people, but for me with gluten intolerance it was very difficult. Despite calling beforehand, the waiter was not prepared. Despite repeated requests, I was served sauce with gluten.

We were 6 adults and 6 kids. Food was delicious. Service was very good. 'Maggie' was very gracious. The Restaurant is big and was absolutely full (Sunday afternoon). You need to book before hand. Expensive. Hiking trails all around. Ample parking.

The quality of food is absolute top notch. We went on a busy sunday and sat on the outside where you have to place your card order inside and check regular whether its ready to pick up. The quality was awesome and delivery speed high. Definitely will coming back.

A good restaurant with an amazing view

Instead of the salad plate we ordered, the waiter wanted to serve us a vegetable plate. The salads on the salad plate that were then served were full of sauce and the green salad was already very sloppy and had been in the salad dressing for a long time. The sprouts on top were already brown and tasted inedible. After the complaint, the boss said he hadn't found anything like that in the kitchen. Instead of a verbal apology, we were treated to a café which was later added to the bill. A “no go” across the board. That was our only and last visit to this fine restaurant on the Rates. By the way: the view alone is worth the trip on the rates!

The ambience and the view is unique. Idyllic and quiet. Unfortunately, the service is in stark contrast. Our visit consisted of a short break for a drink. The service didn't seem particularly motivated, and of the 3 drinks ordered, only 2 were delivered correctly. In addition, the 3 drinks cost us over 19 CHF. During the hour on site we only saw one employee with a friendly face and joy in his work... I can't rate the food on this visit. But based on what I experienced, I don't know whether I will come back here again in the near future... There is a great playground for the little ones!

The location of the restaurant won't let you down. There are amazing views from up there. Parking space is great, and the food is great. Service was really slow. But I'm starting to think that this is a rule in Switzerland, they've problems with the availability of people for service. So, nowadays, everywhere you go there is the same problem

Very unfriendly reception. Were 'ordered' to another table with the assistance dogs, even though all tables were free and not reserved upon request. We decided to leave immediately and were then roughly escorted out. We can't say anything about the quality of the food.

Great meal! Rude service...constantly serving in front of people, while there was plenty of room behind them. When we made a comment about it after two courses, the lady waiter had a rather rude answer: it was easier for her that way. And she stuck with that. That's not how it should be in an old restaurant like Raten!

I’d give them 0 stars if possible. We went for a hike today and as we’ve done numerous times, we intended on having lunch at the Restaurant Raten. Before we set off, my husband asked the waitress whether we could reserve a table, to which she replied ‘not needed - we always have room’. Much to our disappointment, as we returned to the restaurant after our hike, the waiter (male), ignored us for a few minutes and then asked whether we had reserved a table, to which my husband replied what we had been told. He proceeded to take us to a table in the back room of the restaurant, where there were no guests, the tables weren’t even set. There were plenty of free tables in the main room where everyone else was dining, and not a single table had a sign that said ‘reserved’. We are foreigners, and we speak German perfectly, but we’re not Swiss, so go figure. Extremely disappointed as we have enjoyed many meals here, but will most definitely not be coming back after the way we were treated today.

I recommend visiting this magical place on the top of the hill with wonderful views of the surroundings... Great food without any comments and a cake that we will not soon forget. Sensationally delicious “Mistkratzerli” was eaten.

Inattentive staff. Had to wait half an hour and ask 3x to pay. Compared to the portion sizes (e.g. small portions of fries for over 10.00), the prices are right at the limit.

Today I was there with my team from work and one of your waiters poured beetroot on my head. My hair and top got dirty and since beetroot stains can NEVER be removed, my top was A WASTE! I sat there with pink hair with my team!!! And the worst part is that the waiter NEVER APOLOGIZED and ignored his incredible mistake! It was insulting, disrespectful and brutal...unacceptable... The only reason I stayed quiet is because my colleagues, but me, will never recommend this place and will try to tell all locals/companies/colleagues about this one UNACCEPTABLE, RUDE SERVICE. For dinner I asked for fish breaded without cornmeal and they brought it for me. And they forgot my sauce too.

The food still tastes good. Just a little expensive. The service is very friendly and does a great job. The ambience is nice, great view. Unfortunately there are a lot of flies in the interior. Can be annoying.

We recently visited this restaurant close to the mountain pass and had an good experience. The parking is big and the terrace has a stunning view. We enjoyed the delicious homemade ice tea and cherry tart. The service was also efficient and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a relaxing experience.

Quality Very good, very good and beautifully presented. Prices are beyond! Service so-so, when you come they run away and avoid greeting you.

Update: Today, I still avoid establishments that have behaved like this restaurant during the pandemic. I also find the pricing policy of this restaurant to be a rip-off. I will no longer visit a restaurant that opposes a Covid certificate and does not adhere to the Corona regulations. Not just because I wouldn't feel safe, but also because they are antisocial and don't deserve it. I will also think about it after Corona.

Servide seems strained to be friendly, so not real friendliness. clears away without kind words etc. The restaurant probably only survives because of the location and the "tourists" because if you read the list of extra costs and have to listen to what everything costs extra, then you lose the enjoyment. The food is also relatively mediocre and simply too expensive.

The food and service in the Rates restaurant are ok, and the ambience (interior, outdoor terrace, playground and the view of Lake Ägeri and the Alps) leaves almost nothing to be desired. However, I am astonished by details on the menu that belong in the rip-off category. The guest inside pays 3.00 francs per person for the white-covered table, unless he consumes at least 80 francs and a second spoon for dessert is charged at 2.50 francs. Even the water from the tap, be it normal or Grander water, is hard on the wallet... Annoying, such additional burdens for the guest, who has to feel more like a dairy cow than a welcome gourmet. Actually, there would only be one consequence for such rip-offs: Don't go there anymore.

Nice location and view. But unfortunately: - bad service - Dishes cannot be changed or Ingredients cannot be canceled due to incompatibilities. Reference is made to the last page of the menu card. - Food works if prepared the day before or frozen. Unfortunately the breaded pork schnitzel was raw (deep red) It's a shame about this location.
