Wanted to eat something in the restaurant at 3 p.m. According to the staff, the only thing you can see is a single pretzel and a small selection of sandwiches - and the friendliness of the staff leaves a lot to be desired.

Vegetables were inedible, strongly seasoned and almost raw, fries were hard and already fried, and the bratwurst was only served with pale baguette bread. The waiter was understanding and confirmed my complaint. Apologized with a small packet of biscuits

Wow, this is the most delicious food I ate in Switzerland. Even though they don't speak English very well, both the counter staff and the cooking staff were very kind and helpful. Schnitzel stir-fried vegetables and French fries are absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

The restaurant at the WEST entrance is good and the staff is very friendly... With a large children's playground, and even our dog got something to drink without being asked. Great👍🏼 Attention, don't make the mistake we did and expect to enjoy a coffee at the east entrance. At the EAST entrance the staff is extremely unfriendly! Never again.

Swiss food in a cozy place, certainly a good start to the hike through the gorge. You can see how your food is prepared on site. Due to high tourism there are smaller waiting times. Go and enjoy 😉

7/24/21, 2 p.m., the lady behind the checkout at the souvenirs was unreasonably rude after she pointed out to us that we should wear a mask and we politely told her that we had a doctor's certificate and were not allowed to wear a mask. I wanted to show her my certificate, but she didn't want to tell me her name in return. Afterwards she didn't want to serve her nine-year-old daughter after the mother was already sent outside crying. Both suffered shock. If we weren't on vacation, I would have called the police and filed a report of coercion. The daughter still tried to comfort the shocked mother afterwards. The lady behind the cash register didn't care about anything, the rule of law or not, for her it wasn't "fair" that not everyone had to wear the mask, that was the reason for the inappropriate and inhumane treatment. UNACCEPTABLE!

2:50 p.m. kitchen closed. Answer: we shut everything down at 2:30 p.m.! are you crazy! There are still many people in the gorge. We came from the Richenbach Falls and were looking forward to something delicious and didn't eat anything on the way. Huge disappointment and never again!!!

Ideal place to explore the Aare Gorge by night after dinner

We had booked dinner in the restaurant followed by the mystical gorge lighting. I expected a little more from the food. It was just the easiest thing ☹️ Tasted good, but cold. Self-service and you also had to clear the table. When making the reservation you might think that everything was always fully booked. If you don't arrive on time, the table will be given away immediately. There were only five tables occupied that evening. Recommendation to the boss: the whole thing could still be improved.

Very poorly organized. Everyone is standing in line. Even if you only want a portion of fries, you have to wait until the previous person receives the complete menu or gets their tarte flambée/pizza baked. Waited in line for 30 minutes for fries and then stood in line at the checkout until the fries were cold.

Well… where to start? A place, moreover, very pleasant, but don't stop at this air of a small mountain chalet. We came to be able to fully enjoy traditional Swiss food before a short stroll in the Aare gorges. What a disappointment when we noticed that it was a self-service restaurant with exorbitant prices. The food there was sad both visually and in taste and we paid around fifty francs for 2 dishes and a dessert to share. Not to mention the price of the bottle of water: 9.50 CHF, NEVER SEEN. If you want to spend a pleasant time in the Aare gorges, go for it, if you want to have lunch there, go your way without hesitation.

Food is fine. But unfortunately I have no idea about gluten-free food.

We were in the restaurant during the week and there was only one cook. The selection is acceptable but since everything is being prepared, the chef gets into trouble even with a small number of orders. I really felt sorry for him... Unfortunately, the food was also mediocre and the prices were simply way too expensive...The staff at the restaurant cash register were also rather unmotivated. There was no salad buffet, which irritated me even though it was well attended. The only positive thing is the beautiful terrace, great playground and clean toilets. The next time I visit the Aare Gorge, I would definitely prefer to have my own picnic.

There is also something vegetarian to eat, not just fries 😄

Self-service: slow service, limited offerings

The playground was great, the location was beautiful. Unfortunately the food was just mediocre. The vegetables are completely unsalted. The tarte flambée resembled a cheesecake. Fish crisps and chicken nuggets were mediocre at best. Value for money was not given.

Cafeteria style restaurant with traditional Swiss lunch options. Expect to spend a bit of time waiting in line during lunch time, so recommend to visit slightly before 12pm or after lunch rush.

We were there today and wanted to buy something for lunch, 12:20 p.m. Everything was empty, not even a sandwich had it!!!! The gentleman at the checkout was very unfriendly and ran away! Apparently there was a larger group and ate everything! Ha ha ha what a hell of a place this is that can't serve multiple guests. Ridiculous so there are other customer-friendly restaurants. Don't get upset, just avoid it

We wanted to have a cozy aperitif stop after a 2-day Reisli, but oh dear, the joy was very short-lived... well, self-service isn't a problem. But where do you find what you're looking for? A very rude young man was sitting on the buffet totally busy with his smartphone. There wasn't even a "good day". When we asked where a Cüpli could be found, he showed us the direction with a reluctant nod of the head... there was no drinks menu and the prices were very poorly displayed. Well, it's our own fault that we didn't ask before😤... 3 piccolo Fr. 48.00 plus greasy glasses and not even ciip glasses. Our conclusion: once and never again.

Restaurant not very organized and poor in terms of choice. We stopped to eat after visiting the Aare Gorge and I wasn't very happy. If you have time, don't stop here but go and look for a nice restaurant nearby.

The place is uniquely beautiful and the service was nice. Fries tasted good. The schnitzel was a bit scary. Nevertheless, I think you can have a meal there.

It's impressive what water and time can achieve in nature

Unfortunately everything except the deep fryer was closed - so there were greasy French fries, greasy chicken nuggets and greasy fish fries. At least that's plenty. All on the grounds that there wasn't enough going on. You can also make it easy for yourself - a stove like that is difficult to turn on... It's nice that the employees had a lot of time for phone calls. Here the customer is a beggar, not a king. Was the German service desert imported here?

Too many people. Half of the path was closed and people were running around. There was a traffic jam that couldn't be cleared and no way out. Too many people at the kiosk getting food in front of the house. For half of the way we paid the full price of the way. That's really a pity.

Decent sized portions, quick for take away, outside a few standing tables for consumption. Menu is kids/family oriented, but there are also 1-2 diverse specials of the day.

Completely overpriced restaurant. We were there on a weekday. The staff (a man and a woman) were completely overwhelmed with preparing the food. What do they do on the weekend? Steep prices. No cold milk available. Staff could be friendlier. For months we have heard nothing other than guest lists and contact tracing. Nobody's looking here. The list is in a corner. Anyone who wants can register and otherwise it doesn't matter. This upon request at the checkout... Terrace was closed. The second star is because at least the table was clean..

Very expensive self-service restaurant.

Food way too expensive. Lots of annoying flies and very unfriendly staff. I didn't know that the toilets were being cleaned so I entered them. Then the cleaning specialist came and pushed me out. He also complained loudly. A simple “the toilets are currently closed” would have been enough. I was definitely there for the last time!

For me, self-service bistro does not correspond to a restaurant...

The prices in the restaurant are very expensive. You pay 8.50 for a small portion of fries. - there aren't even any sauces. For a 0.5l water bottle you pay 5.-. It's a disgrace that you pay so much and you have to get it yourself.

A self service place to eat. It's just at the playground. It wasn't bad but also no wow effect. Food was tasty but selection was limited while we were there. I would love to come back again because the Aareschlucht is very nice spot to visit.

Interesting gorge. Not quite comparable to the Viamala or Roffla Gorge, but still beautiful. Certainly worth a visit.

Interesting destination, particularly recommended for tourists. It's impressive how the still narrow Aare winds through the gorge; high rock faces and a lovely cascade adorn the path. Be careful, there is a narrow bridge that you are walking on. Parents who come with strollers are a bit annoying. Small children should be carried in a Gstältli on their chest or back. Entry per adult CHF 9.-; for kids Chf 5.- Is still reasonable somewhere. A little tip on the side: visit the Aare Gorge on a normal weekday. Increased crowds are to be expected on Sundays and public holidays. We didn't include the restaurant. In our opinion, the food offering is too standardized. Too long a queue in front of the self-service buffet. It's great that you can find many barbecue areas in front of the west entrance. These were extremely overcrowded. Overall, a great excursion destination, also for Swiss people.

Wouldn't stop there again, 5 francs for a self-service latte macchiato 2dl is almost cheeky 👎. Food is generally at the top price limit. Price/performance rather poor. Very nice playground for the little ones 👍.

Beautiful! It's worth the trip, a light and peaceful walk. You can take your dog on a leash. The walk takes about 1 hour without rushing. It's more or less 1.4 km. We love it!

A typical tourist trap. Swiss-style fast-food with small portions. Ok when there is nothing else.

Impressive natural phenomenon that has carved out these gorges over time. They can be visited thanks to a walkway that can be explored on foot. It is not very wide and I advise against wanting to go with a stroller for children, better a backpack/baby bag (pay attention to the height). The information tables are a bit poor and need some addition.

A place to see and never forget!

In the summer months there is a nice terrace for outdoor dining, with a fresh salad buffet. Flammkuchen and burgers are also very nice.

Oh and oh dear... I haven't been there for a while + now the once beautiful business has become a soulless self-service thing. Why? And why on earth are the prices for self-service so high? It's clear to me that Switzerland is an expensive place. But this is a massive exaggeration, i.e. H. a soda for Fr. 5.--, as well as coffee and, for example, a small French chip for Fr. 3.--. Hello? What's that supposed to mean? The quality of the other goods such as salad, cakes and the like also seems to me to be in need of improvement (not just in terms of price). By chance I noticed a larger group wanting something to eat at around 4 p.m. on a Sunday. But they were cleaning in the kitchen and didn't want to do anything big except tarte flambée. And of course the few leftover cakes and salads aren't enough for around 10 people. The potential guests then left the restaurant without further ado. Customer-friendly looks different. It is an affront to the many great restaurants, hotels, etc. that still exist in Switzerland and that provide quality in order to survive. Here you try to get a lot of yield with little effort and benefit from the proximity of the Aare Gorge. So guests are always there and foreign customers in particular just eat the toad, as people are often more generous during the holidays. In the longer term, however, this operation will do a disservice. My tip: Better take something to drink with you or go to the village in Meiringen. There are one or two good restaurants there.

You probably have to differentiate between self-service and the actual restaurant. I can only speak for self-service. Absolute tourist rip-off, far too expensive and the food is simply a disaster. Don't eat here, you'll just get ripped off. In addition, the hygiene doesn't seem to be optimal (lots of flies).

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience on Sunday. The staff was friendly and helpful, the two chefs had to prepare the food themselves in front of everyone. So we could see everything clearly. Also the drops of sweat that fall from the forehead onto the plate or Grill dripped. Why don't the two chefs have toques? The tarte flambée was not quite ready and after a short time it was cold again. The daily plate was overpriced at 22.- for rösti, veal schnitzel cab140gr and vegetables (also only lukewarm) with mushroom sauce (disgusting) and of poor quality. The salad buffet was open, a few flies could get to the food unhindered. Only the donuts were covered. It's a shame, but I don't recommend the restaurant to anyone. Shame on Swiss tourism.
