Excellent service and a really nice place. I stopped to try the fondue, also because there is only one on the menu. Compared to the many reviews I read, I didn't find the fondue that extraordinary. Definitely good, but in my case I couldn't smell the wine notes at all. Otherwise very nice and well-kept chalet.

What ever I say is just words..I recommend to try this restaurant. At the moment from all the restaurants is the best I have ever tried and from service ,welcome, food.The best fondue I have ever tried and unique wines.Keep going and you are great .

After the annual Ballon Festival we were deeply frozen through and came here without a reservation for lunch. We got extremely lucky to get two spots at the bar. One of the waitresses spoke fluent English, menu was in French but we had no issue selecting and asking some questions. Food was delicious. They offered us some hot mulled wine - divine and helped us heat up quickly. Loved the interior and atmosphere. The home made tarte tartin was the highlight. Will be back one day.

We’ve been at least 4 times now. Last night was no exception to how amazing it is. The service and staff are SO kind, the food is incredible (had the truffle fondue last night, but the beer and regular ones are also amazing, as well as the fondue chinois and the broth in a cup at the end is a must!). Were happy to accommodate 2 adults and a 3 year old at 8:30 PM (who also loved the fondue and fries). Prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for the amount of food you get, as well as service which I sometimes miss living in France. This will be a restaurant we frequent for decades as we visit many times a year. Many thanks and will certainly be back probably a few times before we head back home!

It was our very first evening as French people in Switzerland, at the start of a cool night, tired from long hours of travel, we were looking for a warm place where to enjoy a few typical first dishes. In the main street of Château d'Oex where we pass by chance, we see this large wooden chalet lit up in the middle of the night, a group of musicians through the window, and even guess a fondue on a table... Neither one, nor two, we rush to park to discover this place. And we were not disappointed! We are welcomed like princes by restaurateurs and waiters, and we enjoy our first Swiss fondue accompanied by a perfectly recommended white wine, bread, pickles, onions, potatoes and extra kirsch... under the benevolent gaze and amused by Léopoldine who gives us at the end the famous "scraper", holy grail for any lover of the "nun". We don't leave a crumb behind, pleasantly accompanied by the music of the group "Gasoline & Matches" who are playing that evening and even dedicate a song to us. But dinner doesn't stop there, even when we're full, we fall for the "homemade cinnamon ice cream" that catches our eye on the menu... and it's the apotheosis. That's without counting Léopoldine who sprinkles it with a few drops of an additional liquid happiness called "Golden Schnee", a Swiss cinnamon liqueur which enhances this ice cream which already delighted our taste buds. To finish, his companion offers us a few more drops of a digestive with Swiss alpine pasture herbs, and we leave happy to have crossed paths with such a sweet restaurant and its kind occupants!

A chalet from the 1700s blessed by a star and was not caught on the fires of the town that occurred multiple times and burned all the wooden homes and chalets. We visited Au Montagnard for dinner. The chalet and its history are beautiful, the hosts were VERY nice and welcoming, and the food was exceptional. We ordered the home made ricotta on bread and aubergine appetizer as well as the meat and cheese fondue. Officially the best and most tender fondue meat i ever had. We were very lucky to visit on a Sunday as they had live music and the best artist was playing and singing. Unforgettable experience it will be in my heart forever ♥️

A restaurant not to be missed by anyone in Château-d'Œx. Here you can taste one of the best fondues in Switzerland! Perfect service, the waitress was very kind and always available: she also told us some anecdotes about the structure. On the menu there are only fondue (cost 25chf/person) and some starters. Absolutely coming back!!

Wonderful setting in a typical old Swiss chalet. We ate a very good classic fondue. Service well done. In short, we don't care anymore.

The best place in the Valley this summer! So many enjoyable evenings with friends and the owners are just so welcoming, always checking you are fine, always a smile. The prices are reasonable. The tapas and drinks list are top notch. A place that has in a few months already become an institution in the village.
