Nice atmosphere right on the lake and a nice, friendly waiter. The schnitzel was very good!

A real “must” for an Austrian when you are in Lucerne. The food is really excellent, value for money is absolutely right. We were a small group and it was quite full, but the service was extremely attentive and quick. Our waiter “Berti” did a really great job and also explained the (Austrian) dishes and wines in detail to the Swiss people at our table and made very good recommendations! Despite a full house, he took his time and the other tables around us also seemed very happy. Charming, funny, upbeat, attentive, perfect! (We found that the bar manager had let herself be unnerved!) The ambience is also very similar to a real Viennese coffee house, very cozy. We'll be back, keep it up!

A cozy restaurant right on Lake Lucerne, a pleasure to eat outside when the sun is shining. Excellent service and delicious food. For vegans, the beetroot plant dish is a taste experience!

In 10 days in various places in Switzerland, it was the worst service we had.

Avoid at all costs. Awful service. Ignored for 20 mins. Then told they are coming to serve us shortly. 15mins later told no longer serving. Waiter just laughed in our faces. Very rude and staggering as had been sitting silently with a sleeping 2 yr old.

We had a cozy brunch at Franz today and the food and service were top notch as always. Our little daughter was also looked after very well by the service staff (crayons to color in, seat cushions to sit on) which we as parents really appreciate and gives us the opportunity to enjoy the food :-) We can also highly recommend the schnitzel and the Sachertorte and you definitely have to try them. We always enjoy coming back. Dear Franz team, keep it up :-)

If you want to enjoy a gigantic Viennese veal schnitzel (CHF 48 each) with fries or potatoes followed by Kaiserschmarrn, then this is probably one of the few places in Switzerland. According to his own statements, the waiter is a real Viennese jetliner who freely expresses his views on tips and his abandoned homeland. The large dining room disappointed me because it doesn't evoke any associations with an Austrian restaurant.

We had dinner at Franz. The staff is typically Viennese, which we liked. Not always attentive but overall very friendly. The rooms are nice, the temperature is a bit cool in cold seasons. The tables are a little too separated, which doesn't really create a cozy atmosphere and has something of a train station hall feel to it, which is a shame! Unfortunately, on a Saturday evening at the best time for dinner, the soup was already gone - that's not possible! Otherwise the dishes are very tasty! All in all, worth a meal, but with a limited ambience.

This is my 2nd review for the Franz. Last year the experience was very good, unfortunately yesterday, December 25th, a huge disappointment: We checked the opening times and current reviews online beforehand and so we drove there from Zug at 4 p.m. to enjoy a delicious Kaiserschmarrn at Franz on Christmas Day. As soon as we entered through the red curtains, the waiter in charge with black glasses in the reception area gave us a harsh, rude "We're closed" - no greeting, no explanation. We asked in a calm and friendly manner, since we had checked the opening times an hour ago - but again we received an extremely negative, unfriendly "We determine the opening times and it's closed now!" So we turned around in complete consternation and bewilderment. The waiter then slammed the door behind us, locked it forcefully with the key and then demonstratively pulled the curtains. Guests who were taking photos outside without jackets and coats were also no longer able to enter. You can understand if the staff in a café is unavailable at short notice and this causes stress or other mishaps if this is briefly but kindly explained to you as a guest. The waiter could have said that he was sorry, that the café was already full, that there weren't enough staff and that it might well be that you had to wait 2 hours for your coffee. As a guest, I could have decided for myself whether I wanted to do something like that or not. But not like that. It was beyond all decency. Zero understanding for this behavior! As a consolation, we were at least able to enjoy a very fine dessert with very friendly service in the nearby Rebstock Restaurant!

Were there for our wedding anniversary and were very, very satisfied! Super nice and attentive service from A-Z! The food was super tasty and the portions were large. I rarely have dessert but the Kaiserschmarrn was incredibly good! You have to try it. Simply a great restaurant! Keep it up!

Excellent place, exquisite and frankly appetizing food. Careful and attentive service. Discreet, refined atmosphere with an Austrian family touch. It is a must-visit restaurant in Luzern. It is worth taking this opportunity to taste refined Austrian cuisine in the heart of Switzerland. The winery's reference may be one of the best in the city.

If you like Wienerschnitzel this is a good place. The schnitzel is good and so is the service. Prices are ok compared to other restaurants and Wienerschnitzel. The nice thing is that you can (almost) always get a table here, which is not the case with most restaurants.

Never had such a good schnitzel! Tafelspitz with side dishes is sensational. The friendliest and fastest service!!

Very pleasant reception in a great, truly imperial atmosphere with a WOW effect. Excellent food, excellently prepared by hand and great wines to go with it. The selection of open wines is not that large; but still offers a very good cross-section of Austrian wines, lovers will get their money's worth. The staff is very courteous, attentive and above all authentic. It was a wonderful evening in the “Franz”, a place to really feel good. Many thanks to the whole team!

Of all my reviews to restaurants this is the worst one. Tourist/ Tour coordinators / Asians / Guest should read this to avoid potential unpleasant experience. This is the POOREST QUALITY OF SERVICE AND POTENTIALLY RACIST restaurant's staff we have ever experienced in a 5-star hotel restaurant in Switzerland. ASIANS BEWARE! And should take caution when dining here. The staff, particularly the female manager, displayed potential racist behavior. They lit the lights of the umbrellas of non-Asian guests while leaving our Asian group in the dark. When we questioned them about this, they insisted that the lights in our umbrella were broken without even checking on it, so they probably knew. So We wonder why they did not inform us or make alternative arrangements if this was already known beforehand since they did not tell us it is broken from the start. When we suggested moving inside the restaurant as it was well-lit and empty (as shown in a picture), they refused to allow us, despite no other patrons / customers being present. Consequently, we had to wait and eat in the dark while other guests on different umbrellas had lights and is looking at us making our group embarrased. To make matters worse, one server accused us of being late as the reason for the lack of lighting. Is that right? even though the reservation is for dinner? This accusation was astonishing, as restaurants should normally prioritize customer satisfaction and resolve issues rather than creating more problems. This indicated a poor level of service. And if we truly were that late, why was our food not prepared and why did we have to wait over 40 minutes for the main course? The staff claimed and changed their argument and said that they are understaffed, but if that was the case, why didn't they prepare in advance when it is already been paid for and reserved? Why did they not communicate to tell us that they won't be able able to serve us well and cancel the reservation? We would have appreciated and understood their situation better if they had provided clear communication in such a scenario. Summary: - Poorest quality of service and potentially racist behavior observed - Staff lit lights for non-Asian guests but left Asian group in the dark - When questioned, staff claimed lights in Asian group's umbrella were broken without checking it. - They did not inform us beforehand when they already knew about the broken lights. - Request to move inside to the well-lit and empty restaurant was denied. - Waited over 40 minutes for the main course - Fake Apology base on the way the girl manager speaks. She is also arroant and claims it is a special experience. Owner of the restaurant please do something about this as your location and food are great but it is tarnish by this way of treatment to Asian people. Thank you

Great service, good choice on the menu, great view! The quality of the meal is superb, well presented, and served at the perfect temperature. The service from the waiter is timely, personal, and professional. It is discreet and also attentive. You are NOT "sold to" so are comfortable ordering what you want and therefore willing to return again and again. I liked it - it may be that the group of diners I was with made this a brilliant time, but the service facilitated that too. The potato salad is goid the appel strudel is divine. I would definitely have this to share especially if out together, dining as a couple. I would definitely return

Without giving too much away here, throw yourself behind the pastry display case. As they say? The best comes last... Or perhaps one of the award-winning Wienerschnitzel? Host Mrs. Kreienbühl and her team will be happy to inform you about delicious Viennese delicacies. An absolute hotspot for Austrian cuisine.

Great Austrian restaurant in a top location.

The waiter was unfocused (twice, took the order incorrectly) and was quite unfriendly in conversation. Just turned away in the middle of the conversation and ran away. Barmaid just typing on the phone. Plättli (Brettljause) is no longer what it once was: Bacon used to be very aromatic and spicy, this time it was rather tasteless and bland, raw ham was already a grayish color, there used to be pickled radishes and cucumbers, but this time they probably didn't have any in stock ... The waiter cleared the dishes quite chaotically (probably not done that often?). I used to love coming to “Franzl” when I was traveling in Lucerne. It's a shame how things have changed. :-( PS: the old menus (including cheaper prices) are still hanging at the entrance in the showcase at the Klinglers restaurant...

Very authentic and “killer guat” (very delicious)! We of course recommend the Wienerschnitzel (veal) with parsley potatoes and the paprika chicken from Alpsteiner Ribelmais guinea fowl. For starters there was a really good mixed salad and the goat cheese and black bread praline in almond breading. For dessert: Sachertorte (true to the original) - yummy! There is a fantastic atmosphere on the terrace with a view of the lake. Luckily, we were musically accompanied by a sweet classical trio from the lake promenade - a successful evening!

I “fell” into Franz by chance. After I was placed, I read through the latest reviews and was briefly unsure what to expect. But I actually can't understand it. Schnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn were sensational (as an Austrian you can judge that), the wine selection is also top (you can also judge as a sommelier) and the service was nice, friendly, competent and on point. The prices are of course a bit high, but with a lake view you pay a little more for the ambience everywhere, so it didn't shock me. Summary: Happy to have schnitzel and Grüner Veltliner again :)

One Staff member called herbert was unbelievably “RUDE” would not recommend unless you wanna be mistreated.

It's actually been a wonderful place for fine Austrian cuisine for years. Yesterday I visited the restaurant. What was noticeable was that there were no guests there. Even when the weather was decent, the outdoor patio wasn't uncovered. The otherwise always excellent, sophisticated Brettljause was cheaply made - not everything on it was fresh! The boiled beef salad for 33 chf was a small portion with lots of leaf lettuce. The service, absolutely unprofessional, bored and sloppy. I heard that the entire team has changed including the head chef. The overall rating of 4.4 probably comes largely from the old days. It's a real shame for this development.

I only had a Viennese coffee and soft drinks here. Very nice service, attentive and quick. The location right on the lake invites you to linger. It's cozy here on the summer terrace. Prices at the upper end.

Prices that are way too high and small portions are a great way to save money. The soup is overpriced for this small portion. The food is very good. At this price you are happy to pay if it tastes good, but then the portions should also be appropriate. A pity !

Stunningly beautiful place, veranda with a view, friendly staff. BUT the presentation of the dishes is ugly, and the dishes themselves do not reach the level of this restaurant. They have a rating of 4.5, I don’t understand where it comes from? The food is completely ordinary, the fish I ordered was breaded and overcooked, this place does not at all deserve a 4.5 rating. The prices are very inflated and do not match the dishes at all. My husband was brought a salad for 35 euros, it looked like a salad from the cheapest canteen, the meat was ordinary cheap ham, everything was carelessly chopped. I'm not a cook, but I would make everything much better and tastier. I'm very disappointed in the food, everything else was up to par.

Very good Kaiserscharrn, freshly made by a Viennese. The crumble cake was a bit sweet and slightly mushy that day. Otherwise the taste is good. The lady from service is also from Austria, she offered wonderfully friendly and attentive service. The view of Lake Lucerne is perfect. The latte macchiato and capuccino were good. All in all, a clear recommendation for the Franz.

One could almost say that Franz is obliged to do it once a month. The food is super tasty and the portions are really sufficient. I've never left here hungry. The staff is very friendly. What can you say - try it out.

I accidentally spilled the entire glass of wine. At that moment, there was no one from the staff, so I took a cloth and wiped the table, which was no problem. I called the waitress, described what happened and asked her to pour me another wine. After some time I asked for the bill... I drank one glass of wine and had to pay for two.😵 I know it's my fault and I should be more careful, but accidents (unfortunately) happen to people...🤷🏻‍♀️ In places of this "level" it is (in my opinion) an absolute NO GO.

Immediately brought water for my dog ​​and was attentive and super sweet at all times. Some other waitresses in Lucerne can learn a lesson here! Don't just sell expensively, but also pay attention to the service. This is how the guests come back. Unfortunately, far too few restaurants in Lucerne understand this. Thanks to Restaurant Franz! Beautiful interior, wonderful terrace, pompous Kaiser Franz presentation. Impeccable service, the quality of the Wiener Schnitzel and Kaiserschmarren was good, but still has room for improvement.

Great location right on the lake promenade. The food is typically Austrian and fine. Fine cakes are also offered, including curd cakes. As a regular guest, I have repeatedly noticed that the pieces are getting smaller and smaller and that at a price of 9 CHF. I no longer accept this and will look for an alternative to feasting.

Great example of how you can order digitally - and then be served personally. And above all: it WORKS excellently. You read the QR code and the software works. Simple, clear, no frills - perfect. And another advantage: There is no running of the operating staff - it's all one flow.

Authentic Vienna style cusine served with a smile. Spend the afternoon on the patio right next to the lake, watching people passing by and enjoy a truly amazing piece of cherry crumble pie. The menue offers a selection of viennese classics from "Wiener Schnitzel" to "Kaiserschmarrn". Every dish is a small celebration of austrian hospitality. Charming!

The terrace is beautifully located by the lake. There is a nice selection of delicious cakes and delicious warm drinks. The Franz actually reminds me a little of a miniature version of Empress Sissi's Austrian castle or a Viennese cafe. 🙂

It was extremely crowded and therefore extremely loud. The food and wine was great. There was a misunderstanding when ordering and the restoration specialist started a discussion instead of simply accepting the complaint.
