I asked if I could have a coffee to go, the boss's answer was no, I don't have time. Yes, if you don't want any customers, you can do it that way.

Sunday was the best weather, only half the terrace was open and everything inside was empty but all the tables were “reserved”.

We had coffee and cake on a Sunday afternoon. I don't understand the negative reviews about the service; maybe things have changed. This is a great café.

We were here for coffee and cake for the second time in the afternoon. Unfortunately, as on the last visit, the service was very slow and many of the orders were delivered incorrectly or forgotten. It took 25 minutes before we could order. The marble cakes were extremely dry (4 pieces in total). That must not be. We thought that it had worked itself out and gave the Iris another chance today. Unfortunately we were disappointed again and won't be coming back.

Nicely located restaurant. Attracts you from the outside. An attractive cake buffet awaits you inside. The dining room is very open and concentrates on as many tables as possible. Unfortunately we had to wait longer to be served. This gave us enough time to observe the process and how the team worked together... We weren't the only ones who had to wait a long time for service. No wonder. The waitress did a lot of idle work, went to the wrong tables with the cakes, and spent a long time trying to find the right bills for the right table. All in all very chaotic and disorganized. No wonder that their relationship seems strained. Good staff management, clear processes and table numbers (which everyone should know) would definitely make things run more smoothly and efficiently. Coffee and cake were great! However, one waiter, the oldest of the team, caught our attention very positively with his calm, calm demeanor. He continued his work tirelessly and professionally in the midst of chaos and did not allow himself to be irritated.

Went to Cafe Iris for waffles on Sunday afternoon. Ambience is nice, but could be improved! Otherwise very chaotic, disorganized, no team management in service and a lack of concept structure - a shame! The idea with the waffle buffet is great, but not well organized...! Maybe think about who is responsible for what and how, so that you feel welcome as a guest and are happy to come back.

The location is nice, but that's about it for the positive aspects. The service (especially the man between 30 and 40 with black hair and an accent) is slowly becoming arrogant and unfriendly. The food was mediocre and overpriced. Not recommendable.

It took a little too long before we were served, but otherwise the food was fine and the atmosphere was good.

I got up again after 20 minutes and left... unfortunately no one came to take an order...

Price performance at 14.50 for coupe romanoff with very sweet ice cream doesn't fit. Basel has better than Mövenpick ice cream. According to the staff, you have to make a reservation for Sunday brunch 45.- a discretion.

I have to say: they started good, they are getting worst and worst. The personnel is absolutely rude and after I used to come and eat here every single day, paying over 20chf for a plate of over cooked pasta, I have been kicked out twice in a very rude way by 2 “gentlemen”in service because either they are full or it’s 10 min after 14:00 on a hot summer Sunday. And I am 1 person only and a regular customer . Should not be a big deal to be kind. Over priced, average foods, rude and poor service. I won’t come here any longer. Customer service should be the number 1 priority and apparently after the many reviews the owner seems to not care much. That’s very sad cause this place has a huge potential but it’s sadly ran by the wrong people.

We ate here today, early in the evening, and were very satisfied. The waiter served us very friendly, the dinner was delicious and the location is in an idyllic location. Price/performance is right. Thank you very much!

very tastefully renovated café within historic walls. Chic for brunch or family gatherings on Sundays. However, the magnificent setting surrounded by precious plants comes at a price.

One of the best restaurants in one Radius of around 5-10km! Healthy, refined, seasonal food! Service is friendly; nice atmosphere, inside and outside! Beautifully renovated! The coffee is also very good! Very well chosen coffee beans! No cheap goods! Top, top, top!!! 👍👍👍 Thank you!!!

A beautiful and newly renovated restaurant with a delicious breakfast. Great menu. Friendly and nice staff. It's a shame, however, that if 2 breakfasts are shared between 2 adults and a child (robber's plate system), there is a 5 franc service surcharge. Especially since drinks, additional breakfast eggs and other drinks were ordered for the child. This marred my customer experience more than the value of the flat rate. A pity. Even though the friendly lady pointed this out to us when we ordered.

Food: Price/performance: Below all dignity! Summer pasta: No taste in the sauce, and overcooked pasta! Pesto takes a lot of getting used to. The Pinsa: Bad tomato sauce, soggy bottom! The beef was ok. Service: The staff has no feeling for the guests. Makes them wait 15-20 minutes, and very unreliable at picking up the drinks and dishes. 3/8 things were brought incorrectly! Overall rating: 2 / 10 stars! Very humiliating disappointment, I hope this review helps other people...

Unfortunately, in my opinion, the price/performance ratio is not right here at all. CHF 33.- for a pinza with slightly overcooked beef fillet. Supposedly with truffle oil - but I didn't hear anything about it. The prices for what is on offer are also very high. There were a lot of wait staff, but they all seemed a bit overwhelmed. It's a shame, because the ambience was good - despite the somewhat simple chairs and tables.

24CHF for the worst Eggs Benedict I have ever had: served on a hamburger bun that wasn’t even toasted, 2 tiny overcooked poached eggs and what tasted like cold, boxed Hollandaise. Lastly, it was topped off by 1/3 (!)of a piece of bacon. Service was unfriendly and mostly absent. It’s a shame because the location is lovely and has so much potential.

We ate here with our party after our civil wedding. The outdoor table, surrounded by plants and water, was beautifully set. The food - generously portioned - tasted excellent from A to Z and the price was reasonable. All guests praised the restaurant - we would love to come back!

Beautiful restaurant to sit outside and have breakfast. We had the Garten-Z'Morge and it was really very good and plentiful. Service was also friendly and quick, even though it was busy. I see a small opportunity for improvement with the tables. There were 5 of us and the table was actually too small for that. It was just fine, but a little more space would have been nicer. Otherwise everything was great, I'd love to come back.

The food is very good, the staff is friendly and quick but unfortunately understaffed. Therefore under stress and it takes a while until you are served. The restaurant management is doing their best. I observed a gentleman, probably someone from the management, sitting around in the restaurant with a PC and not providing any help even though everyone was busy. I guess that’s called business “leadership”(?)

I had a very nice meal in the Iris restaurant. The staff was very friendly, especially Mr. Ridvan and his brother. Despite the restaurant being full, they were very friendly, everything was brought quickly and there was a great atmosphere. Thank you for the lovely stay. I'll be back!

We experienced super friendly and humorous service serving the freshly prepared delicious food. When the weather was sunny, we were able to recharge our batteries outside with the magical view of the irises. Thank you very much, you have done us good 💚

Very nicely located, also for sitting in the garden. Good coffee and an attractive selection of cakes. It would be nice if the table was cleaned of dirt before serving... (full of ashtrays, leftover bread and coffee stains.)

In itself a very nice restaurant located in the Merian Gardens. But after we were deliberately overlooked by the busy staff for more than a quarter of an hour, we moved on.

The waiters walk past you without paying any attention to you!!! We waited 40 minutes

Restaurant was very busy. Service quick and friendly. The food is good.

Fantastic location, lovely eatery Unfortunately, the service staff seemed very stressed, as did the guests from various quarters, who apparently had to wait too long Not us, we were served promptly and in a friendly manner If the coffee (too watery, the machine really needs to be adjusted differently regarding the amount of beans per cup!!) gets even better, we would like to come more often!

Great ice cream menu, good service, everyone happy

The place and surroundings are beautiful, the coffee was delicious. But: check-in service, the 'coupe' consisted of 2/3 canned cream, a spoonful of iced vanilla ice cream and 3 'cheesy' brownies. The surprise with the children's coupe was probably the Smarties?

Great atmosphere with very tasty, regional and contemporary food (vegan options). The staff is attentive, friendly and accommodating. We can only recommend that you come here!

We (4 people) ordered lunch at around 1:15 p.m. After about 30 minutes the appetizers arrived and an hour later our food still hadn't arrived. Since the waitress was quite unfriendly and dismissive when asked, we paid for what we had received up to that point and left in a huff. We found that in this way you can't deal with guests who had reserved the table in advance.

Poor and very disorganised service, poor price:quality ratio. We saw lots of people leave after waiting to be greeted, we waited > 30min for our food to arrive. Such a pity, the location has so much potential.

Burger not cooked all the way through, salad... a joke, only a small leaf of lettuce in the burger, far too expensive. Fast food chain is better and cheaper

After 50 minutes still no food, no forecast and then another 10 minutes to pay 18 CHF for a coke, a coffee and a mini piece of cake. An amazing experience!

Unfriendly service, internet presence and on-site encounters do not match at all. Prices significantly higher than currently stated on the Internet. According to the staff, families are only welcome from 1:30 p.m....?

A lovely place to have coffee and cake on a sunny afternoon. The plum crumble cake was delicious, fresh and homemade. The pinsa was a great late lunch meal, service was fast and met our expectations. The location is amazing and the team of the restaurant seemed a bit stressed but friendly nonetheless.

Nice place. Unfortunately the door is always open and there is a stream of cold air. Why still building nowadays huge door without automatic opening? This is quite a waste of energy and a lack of comfort. Customers close to the door after a few minutes change always place to sit on the back.

nice - service to be improved !

The environment is of course great. Service from yesterday was semi-friendly. The greeting was sober and when I asked what a Pinsa was, the short answer was: “A pizza.” I don't know any more now. The coffee was good average. but the plum cake was very dry because it had been in the oven too long and the taste could be improved. Simply using the frozen plums without cooking them with sugar, red wine, cinnamon, star anise, orange/lemon zest is just very boring on the palate. But I'll be back and try something from the menu. That sounds good, but what is important is that the flavors harmonize and the sometimes high pricing (especially for vegetarian dishes) is justified.

Very friendly service gave us a beer after work. We enjoyed the same in the last rays of sunshine. If you want to enjoy the first or last rays of sunshine in the beautiful ambience of the Merian Gardens, we recommend this nice restaurant. P S. The typo was taken over from the welcome menu😉

I am a big fan of this newly opened café/restaurant in the middle of the beautiful Merian Gardens in Basel. Laura and her team conjure up a great atmosphere with great attention to detail and very appreciative guest service. In the morning you can sit down and enjoy a homemade Birchermüesli. The menu also offers fresh and seasonal cuisine, which is beautifully presented and brought to the table with a smile! Bravo to the whole team and see you again soon! Kind regards, Sabine
