Good food, friendly staff and next to the train station

I discovered Puro by chance and made a reservation by phone because online reservations were not possible. The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Mövenpick Hotel, not far from the SBB train station, and impresses with Asian fusion cuisine. The food we ordered tasted wonderful, especially the ceviche, the tartare and the truffle rolls were great. The service is tried hard, but not yet at Michelin / Gault&Millau level. The interior design is very tasteful and convincing. It was all the more a shame that there were around 15 guests on a Thursday evening, so it was more than half empty. Certainly worth a visit.

- Creative modern cuisine at lunchtime - Lunch menu is well priced for Swiss standards and the quality offered - spatially separated from the lobby etc., although a stronger separation towards the stairs would be nice so that it has a self-contained character - Swiss elements in the menu every now and then would also be nice - not just international cuisine

Dinner for 9 people. Attentive, professional and friendly service and excellent cuisine. The atmosphere may not be familiar, but very pleasant for business events.

Came here for dinner just in time before the restaurant Sommerpause. Two people ordered the sharing menu and had delicious sushi rolls 😋 I plan to come back for a special round of sushi menu next time!

Good Asian-fusion oriented cuisine, fair pricing for Swiss standards. Excellent service, one of the best I have come across in Switzerland, not just Basel. I would appreciate a couple of vegan options. Well done!

Yesterday we were guests at Puro for the first time and can only recommend the restaurant. Delicious food, great decor, great ambience and impeccable service. The attentiveness of host Markus Wenger, the soul of Puro, is particularly commendable. We will be back! Thank you very much for a perfect lunch.

While staying at the Mövenpick Hotel, we decided to have an evening meal at the Puro Restaurant. What a good idea ! To begin with, the restaurant, located on the 1st floor, is very pleasant. The tables are sufficiently spaced and the decoration, although sober, is in good style. The welcome is impeccable and the staff are very professional. We opted for a particular menu composed of dishes that were very different from each other. It was a treat from start to finish! The mix of different flavors was incredible and the quantities were ample. We chose, among other things, the fried sushi which was fabulous!!! This restaurant is a magnificent restaurant that all gourmets will appreciate. The only small downside was the background music which, in the long run, was exasperating and did not suit, for our part, the place and the time. We take this opportunity to mention breakfast, taken the next day in the same room. All simply magnificent ! This is the 2nd time we have booked a few nights at this hotel and there will be a 3rd time for sure. I will pass the comments on the hotel itself because I have already mentioned it in a previous article.

I would like to take this opportunity to compliment Angel, from Puro restaurant. Always smiling and happy, greeting his customers every morning. He would reserve a table for me and my colleagues without telling him anything, he would offer to bring our desired choice of hot breakfast asking if we would want the same as usual or something different. I prefer almond milk with my coffee therefore I did not have to ask for it every time because Angel anticipated my needs and had it ready for me. He gave us some touristic recommendations to visit in Basel and around. As a customer I felt very welcomed and taken care of every time with the same consistency. Puro restaurant is very lucky to have Angel and should take care of him the same way he takes care of the customers. Keep up the professionalism and passion for what you are doing. Thank you very much.

We experienced an unexpected surprise on Saturday evening; without any great expectations, we wanted to try out the bar and restaurant Puro in the Mövenpick Hotel Basel. The start in the bar was mediocre with rather overwhelmed service and few guests... so we had a queasy feeling about the rest of the evening. But as we climbed the stairs with the magnificent chandelier in the middle, we were warmly welcomed and shown to the table. The Puro presents itself internationally with an elegant but warm design; the windows from floor to ceiling make it appear lofty and light. Service was attentive, friendly and humorous right from the start, the Asian Fusion "Tapas Style" cuisine was simply excellent, in presentation and taste, every course was a pleasure. Hotel restaurants don't always have an easy time positioning themselves, but Puro is absolutely recommended and we'll be back. Last but not least, it was lively and had discreet music, but you weren't "drunk" with lounge sound, as is unfortunately the case in many places, but you could have a relaxed conversation, the noise insulation was very successful here.

You cannot fault the food here - it was really good: We especially enjoyed the truffle risotto, BBQ tuna roll and the entrecôte katsu. However, prices are just too high considering the amounts served: Almost 70.- for some (albeit delicious) sashimi, a sushi roll and 4 nigiri, 42.- for a slice of beef between a bit of bread and 6.- for a small sourdough bun that would come at no extra charge at any fine dining place is beyond what I am used to paying at a restaurant even in Switzerland. The ambiance itself is nice and the service good, but in my opinion, either the portion size needs to go up or the price down.

When style meets taste: an evening in the PURO restaurant When we entered the restaurant, the first thing that surrounded us was an aura of style and elegance. In addition to outstanding service and excellent wine recommendations for the chosen "sharing menu" (a total of 4 courses with several variations and a greeting from the kitchen), we as a group of 5 were able to experience a truly epicurean journey! Creatively and surprisingly, each course combined different flavor components that developed a true harmony on the palate. The price-performance ratio is also more than fair. We will come back and let ourselves be pampered by the art of PURO again. Thanks to the entire team for this experience and this (first) wonderful evening with you.

STARS SUSPECT. Great food!! The ambience is simply brilliant. There is a great atmosphere throughout the entire restaurant. The portions are well balanced, not too little and not too much. The service is competent, friendly and recommended a wine that I later bought for myself at home. I highly recommend it.

The first thing you notice is the tasteful and modern furnishings, you immediately feel at home. The service was very professional and friendly, but at the same time relaxed and friendly. We chose the sharing menu and were thrilled with all 4 courses - would you have thought that we would get the best sushi in the city at Puro? The Puro not only convinced us in terms of cuisine but also in terms of price/performance. We will be back!

The food is good and the prices are as expected. But not providing free bread and not validating guests’ parking ticket? That’s just bad customer service.

We had a wonderful evening with excellent food and excellent service at Puro. The boss of the restaurant is the soul of the house and makes you feel at home.

We went here for Christmas evening and had a beautiful table with great service. The Christmas menu started off well with intriguing flavours. The beef teriyaki and flamed tuna role were perfectly prepared. Followed by good sea bass and pork belly dim sums. Unfortunately, the main course, the veal cutlet, was most disappointing. The quality of the meat was below par and not fit for a high end restaurant such as PURO. The last course, the desserts, lemon biscuit and tainori chocolate were interesting but out of balance flavours resulted in a disappointing finish. Last point of feedback is that it would be good to have a bit more variety in the wine per glass assortment so there is more choice in mixed choices.

PURO is a good restaurant. the cuisine combines traditional dishes in a fusion vision, with exotic flavors which reinforce impeccable product quality. the card is up to par, from every point of view. the service is perfect even if the waiting times can seem long, prefer an evening meal with your partner or friends, rather than a quick working lunch.

Had lunch while staying at the hotel. Food prices are high, but considering the taste of the food, attentive service, and Swiss price levels, it is completely acceptable. In particular, the service from the staff from Mallorca, Spain was excellent. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude once again. It was the best meal out of all 6 meals I had during my stay in Basel. Highly recommended.

Great location with sensational food, for people who are open and want to try something different. There is also a lunch special and taking it outside on the terrace is a highlight. The service is present and tries very hard.

Modern cuisine, Entercot perfectly cooked (we love it bleu), caspacho very tasty, salad lovingly prepared, nice and good. Service friendly and professional. Open wine very good.

Great… absolutely recommended! Nicely furnished, modern but cozy with an open kitchen. South American-Asian fusion cuisine that particularly shines with the starters. We had the sharing menu for two with a total of 8 courses (4 starters, 2 main courses, 2 desserts). So extremely tasty and beautifully prepared. The lobster tiradito was our favorite, the salmon sushi roll was good but a bit “ordinary”. But the evening was made perfect by Alena's extremely friendly service that never seemed artificial. Thanks!!
