Authentic Swiss cuisine of excellent quality and very good service.

We have been coming here to eat for many years. This time we are a bit disappointed. The salad was very tasty, but the main courses were rather average. Good ingredients, but taste bland. That was much better. And even after many years we didn't feel warmly welcome.

We spontaneously went to eat at the Waldhaus restaurant on Saturday evening. The hosts were super friendly, the food was home-style and all the dishes we ordered tasted great! Definitely recommended, we would love to come back :-)

The best fondue we've had... and the service, perfect, nothing to say!

Dear Bea, dear Patrick, we were in Zermatt for 10 days in September and let you spoil us with culinary delights almost every evening. We can recommend the Waldhaus without reservation and felt very welcome. You always made sure we were sitting well with our 2 Chihuahuas. Not only dinner, but also an ice cream in the afternoon were very tasty. Every dish has its own Waldhaus touch. We'll definitely come back more often when we're in the country. Unreasonably expensive . We ordered one panache ( beer with sirop) and 2 teas and some tab water. Tea consisted of a tea bag and hot water and it was 6.50 chf for a cup of tea. They also charged us for tab water which is normally free of charge . we paid 2.50 CHF for half Liter tab water !! We always go to Zermat and know it is not a cheap place but prices are equal to great quality of food n services , but never again to this resturant as it is rediculesly expensive.

Cozy restaurant with a great outdoor area. Great view of the Matterhorn, perfect for a sunset. Outdoor area heated with radiant heaters. Delicious food and large portions. Unfortunately you felt a little unwelcome, so unfortunately only three stars.

Friendly and helpful service, amazing meals, great wine, excellent dessert. Would highly recommend to anyone staying in Appenzell. We went a bit overboard on spending with a bottle of wine, dessert, and espresso, but you can definitely eat in the 40ish CHF range. Rindsfilet and Bolognese pictured.

Although they have a good bread, salad and soup. The staff was indifferent and somewhat rude. It is an unfortunate because, they really have a privileged and beautiful view of the mountains.

Loved it. Wonderful Swiss restaurant out of the main town of Zermatt. Beautiful cozy setting inside or you can sit on the porch with a view of the Mattehorn. There is a full bar and expansive wine list. Lots of meals to choose from, recommend the fried perch, came with a huge side salad and lots of dressing. Everything is freshly made. Free fresh bread is served. There are also several delicious desserts to choose from. We were told the locals come here and it's clear why. If you're looking for a pace to eat outside the touristy main street that serves authentic food go here.

The best place to eat! Warm welcoming atmosphere, the owner himself greets and serves you! The food is excellent, the wine from the Valais tastes amazing. We immediately felt like at home - only the food is way better. It definitely is worth the $$. The view of the Matterhorn can‘t be any better. Here you find everything you wish and more. We definitely will be back!

Had a wonderful dinner last evening in this charming restaurant. The Rouladen was delicious and the price was very reasonable for Switzerland. I look forward to going again.

I have to give one star because I can't get any, unfortunately reading the past reviews I have to say that being Rude like the wood that decorates the environment has become a normal way of treating customers, shame on the lady who is in this restaurant, luckily she was already rude for a simple question if they were available for something to drink, I hope you don't bother answering back because it's even worse to have an answer for a customer, if you don't want to work close and stay in home, or take a course on how to be educated, since education was not taught to you.

Super rude. Google says allows takeout. But the server just say no take out. PS: owner responded saying that it was indicated everywhere no takeout and I was politely told so. Both were not true. I showed the person in my phone that Google says allow takeout, that was why I went. I was stared at, as if I had broken some social norm, and dismissively told “I do take out when not busy.” I wouldn’t call that polite.

Whether summer or winter, we go to the Waldhaus regularly! Simply great cuisine, atmosphere and service. What more do you want.

This year we went hiking again in Julendorf (Zermatt) Lach! This time we spent most of our time eating in Bea and Patrick's Waldhaus. It was just perfect! The two of them are super nice, the food is very tasty and varied and the view of the Matterhorn is breathtaking! It's the best end to a tiring day of hiking you can have! The Waldhaus has really become a huge enrichment for us, we thank you! Until next year :-)

Waldhaus is one of my favorite restaurants in Zermatt. It’s a bit of a walk from Main Street but worth it!! Beautiful view of the Matterhorn and run by a lovely couple. Three favorite things: curry pumpkin soup, the green salad with house dressing (a MUST on the menu even though it’s simple) and the ice coffee with Kirsch. Their specials are always amazing as well so you can’t go wrong with ordering whatever they have

Rating for 1 because service was very poor and a hostile attitude towards their guest .. will not recommend this place We were looking forward to this much recommended restaurant and as tourist were late by 15 minutes. We did notice that there were 3 empty tables and were placed in the section for families as we were there with our 2 boys. Upon placing our order of two cheese fondue, mashed potatoes and cheese and ham sandwich few minutes later when my wife tried to order something for herself being vegetarian she was rudely served as the lady walked off without taking her order. Later when we asked for the Wi-Fi password the lady plonked the plaque with the password and walked off. Her behaviour was demeaning and we were being treated with a lot of disrespect. Nevertheless after waiting for over 45 minutes when we inquired about our order as the children were hungry the gentleman “barked” saying we were late by an hour and the attitude was very demeaning . We had profusely apologised upon entering so thought that was done and dusted. However there was no need at their end to rub it again. He then rudely shouted in an demeaning manner saying “we had to wait one hour and now you wait” .. this is no way to treat a paying customer. At that point we got up and left! … there is only a certain amount of nonsense one could take from these uncouth and vindictive people who think no end of them self and openly discriminate. If all this was not bad enough they shouted at us for paying for the food that was never served !!! Writing this review I noticed that they don’t take criticism well as another person with negative review was attached by them in their reply ! Certainly shows their character. Some humility and humanity won’t make them lesser people. In a place like zarmatt where people are very friendly and helpful this couple was just outright rude and out of place … Needless to say more !

This is one of the best places to eat in Zermatt by far. It's run by a lovely Swiss couple who are really hard working. Food is divine, and it's got a pretty view of the Matterhorn when sitting outside. Definitely recommend this place. 👌🏽

Amazing experience. Authentic Swiss food, ok prices. Great views and food would go back! Ordered the salat w/ Camembert cheese, along with spaghetti. Must try both!

I’m giving this a 2 star rating for two main reasons: (1) the food was mediocre for the price - nothing special (except for the bread) (2) they charged 5 CHF for tap water - which is a joke. I’ve been in Switzerland for 10 years and never charged for a « carafe d’eau ». While I understand there is a charge for bottled water, we specifically asked for tap, which is excellent in Switzerland - no need for bottled water. For me this restaurant is exploiting the fact that Zermatt is a touristy and expensive location. The only reason why I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1 is due to a cosy and charming atmosphere, and great bread. I leave it to you to decide if that is worth approx. 45 CHF per person.

We took mixed salad, meatloaf and cordon bleu, well the most tasty dish was bread. Salad was ok, but both mains we didn’t like at all. Pictures and good reviews tricked us.

Our favourite restaurant in Zermatt. Charming ambience, warm friendly and unpretentious people, and delicious, fresh, home cooked food. Much better than almost all the popular restaurants in the main bit of town. Well worth the walk!

The food was excellent. The ambience was great. Next to the hotspot is the top restaurant. I can highly recommend it.

Very nice and well-kept place internally, staff who were sometimes friendly and sometimes a little distant, however we ate very well, the portions are right, the prices are Swiss, therefore high. For me the absurd thing, for which I find no justification, is paying a carafe of tap water 1lt 5CHF, while the bottled one 1lt 9CHF, I understand that Zermatt is more expensive than other places in Switzerland, but even in the Interlaken area we didn't pay more of 4.5 CHF for 1lt of bottled water. However, very good soup, very good meat main course with puree and vegetables and also the carpaccio for starter.

The lamb was really good, full of flavours and didn’t require salt. The pork was great but too many bones and difficult to eat. Overall it was great, would come back!

Yes, the friendliness could be better. Aperol and limoncello drink are great. If the weather is good, the Matterhorn would also be clearly visible.

The setting is nice and there is a nice view. I don't recommend stopping just to have a drink... it seems to annoy the staff who stare at you every five minutes and ask you several times if you want something more to drink when you start to finish your drinks. (I point out that we asked if it was ok to “only” have a drink)

It's nice that the restaurant is open again after a long time and is located in the Winkelmatten district. There is a terrace with a view when the weather is nice, we were there today for a coffee Baileys.

We ate at michelin starred restaurants in Zermatt, but they did not compare to how delicious the meal at Waldhaus was! This was definitely the best meal we had on our trip to Switzerland! Their barley soup with little pieces of dried meat was exactly what you need in freezing tempartures. Their lamb was cooked to perfection and the shoestring fries it came with were divine (I'd go back just for the fries!). The ambience was very homely and cosy. I would highly recommend this place! It's exactly what you expect in a ski town like Zermatt! Note: a few reviews suggest that the staff is not friendly and welcoming. I tend to agree - i didn't get that overly warm welcome I get at other restaurants in Zermatt, but their food totally made up for it. I'd recommend going there and giving it a try for yourself.

I hadn't been here for 2 years, but I can confirm what I said in the past: we ate very well, the service was rustic but quick and kind. Typical Swiss mountain restaurant environment. I also like it because the staff primarily addresses customers in good Swiss German, that is, in the local language and not English. Prices are adequate for the quality of the food.

Waldhaus is a cozy restaurant nestled in the town of Zermatt. The view of the Matterhorn is incredible and the staff are super friendly and family. I recommend the green salad (the dressing is unusually good and the ingredients are grown in their very own garden!). You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu and they are allergy accomodating(gluten free). BUT the best thing is their eiskaffee with kirsh! It is the dessert of mountain gods.

Very good regional specialty cuisine, we ate on the terrace.... a breathtaking view, in the sun we were in paradise. Unfortunately we weren't very hungry so we could only taste the cheese crust which was very good! We'll come back Walk from the center of Zermatt about 20 minutes, it's shortly after the gondola lift, otherwise I think there is a bus. Not to mention that there are almost no restaurants with terraces in Zermatt center, this one also offers a magnificent view

Authentic cuisine with regional specialties in a cozy atmosphere. Dishes are freshly prepared and taste good. The hospitality team could be friendlier.

Empty restaurant went in asking for a menu and told the owner we would like to eat - he said the entire restaurant was booked. Walked by an hour later and it’s still empty. The guy is laughing in the back. Don’t waste your time. Edit: since the owner has decided to say I am a lier for some reason (which if you review further 1 star reviews you will see that generally they just insult everyone they decide to mistreat) I have added an image of my gps tracks for the day showing me passing the establishment twice.

After years in Zermatt definitely one of my favourite restaurants! 🍜🍛🥧🧁🍰 The homemade pasta, the atmosphere, the service, the view - all in all a great experience. A bit away from the crowds on the main street, you can reach it on a nice cozy walk to Winkelmatten. Will visit again for sure 👍🏻

Very great restaurant with an outstanding view. Every dish was superb (ribs, lamb, fondue), and the owners (husband and wife) were super nice and accommodating. A bit of a walk from the center of town but well worth it!!

Ich habe das Restaurant betreffend einer gewollten Reservierung am 30.12,2020 telefonisch kontaktiert.Auf meine Fragen wurde durch die Deutsche Mitarbeiterin nicht eingegangen.Sie hatte noch die Frechheit zu Fragen ob ich es nicht begriffen habe das nächste Woche im Wallis alles geschlossen ist!Leider haben wir in der Schweiz Kantonale Unterschiede und ich kenne nicht alle Vorgaben sämtlicher Kantone auswendig, deshalb habe ich das Restaurant ja telefonisch kontaktiert.Auf meinen Unmut der nicht Beantworteten Fragen wurde das Gespräch ohne Kommentar beendet.Den Frust der diese Corona Situation auf die Gastronomie ausübt an die Gäste, oder zukünftigen Gäste weiterzuleiten ist absolutes Amateur Niveau.Ich werde dieses Haus in Zukunft meiden und empfehle das selbe meinen Freunen.

aufgrund der vielen positiven bewertungen entschieden wir uns für dieses lokal. unser fazit ist leider sehr durchzogen.location: sehr einladend (klein aber fein)wirt: angebot: vielseitigessen: (hausgemacht und frisch)wirtin: nicht so topes hatte viele stammgäste welche sehr freundlich begrüsst wurden. bei uns fiel alles seitens wirtin eher frostig aus. bei der rechnung hat sie sich fast um die hälfte zu unseren gunsten verrechnet. wir wiesen drauf hin... und anstatt sich zu bedanken wurde sie noch frostiger... der wirt wiederum ist sehr herzlich und die gäste sind ihm wichtig. das spürt man.zuerst dachten wir, die frostige art hätte mit uns zu tun. aber ihren unterschiedlichen tonfall haben wir auch bei anderen gästen festgestellt. somit ist das wohl ihre art, oder war die heutige tagesform, oder was auch immer. auf jeden fall sehr schade, denn freundlichkeit kostet nichts und ein lächeln sieht man auch hinter der maske.und ja, uns ist die schwierige zeit für wirte aktuell sehr bewusst. genau darum sind wir nämlich hier und nicht in unserem garantiert coronafreien zuhause...

Tolle Lage, sehr schönes und heimeliges Ambiente, tolle Aussicht, sehr gastfreundlich, feines Essen, wir kommen wieder

Repas en famille après une marche aux alentours de Zermatt pendant que la neige tombait. Bref temps froid et humide. Pourquoi pas une bonne fondue ? Accueil et service aussi froid et distant de la patronne que son mari est sympathique et avenant. Des raisons de faire la tête en ces temps troublés, surtout pour pour des restaurateurs cela peut se comprendre mais pourquoi le "faire payer" aux clients ? Très joli cadre, avec une belle vue sur le Cervin. Tenture entre les tables pour être Covid safe. Belle carte. La fondue moitié-moitié était très bonne, les desserts maisons aussi. Prix en dessous de la moyenne pour Zermatt et la position excentrée vous évite la foule de touristes. 2 arrêts de bus à 30m. Nous y retournerons.

Ambiance chaleureuse et les tenanciers sympas et efficaces.Assiettes sont chauffées avant le service.Nourriture excellente, tout fait minute à partir d'ingrédients frais.Prix raisonnable, totalement dans la moyenne.Nous repartons heureux!

Mit unserer Wandergruppe haben wir das Restaurant Waldhaus besucht und ein feines Abendessen genossen. Hausgemachter Hackbraten, mit frisch gemachtem Kartoffelpuree, frischem Gemüse, knackigem Salat und zum Abreunden einem feinen Dessert. Es war einfach wieder rundum perfekt, wei immer. Herzlichen Dank! Die Teilnehmere der Wanderwoche haben noch lange von der Gastfreundschaft und dem feinen Essen bei Euch geschwärmt.

Un accueil très sympa par les 2 patrons (Mme et M.). Un belle espace boisé, avec tables séparées judicieusement par des drapées blancs. Ambiance cocooning avec bougies et jolies décorations.Cuisine excellente, une entrée aux chanterelles comme proposition du patron, très fine. Les plats copieux et joliment présentés. Une adresse en dehors du village (Winkelmatten) à recommander.

Accueil très sympathique des 2 patrons. Malgré le fait que nous n'avions pas réservé on nous a tout de suite trouvé une table. Les chiens ont été accueillis avec une gamelle d'eau fraîche.Les chanterelles fraîches sur tagliatelles étaient un pur délice.Le seul mini bémol : le fondant au chocolat mériterait une petite boule de glace vanille ou une petite lichette de crème afin d'apaiser un peu le goût très fort du chocolat noir. Il est tout de même très bon :-) Nous y retournerons avec plaisir si nous revenons à Zermatt
