The two of us spontaneously went to this restaurant. It was already around 6 p.m. The restaurant is pleasant. It was a little cold, but it warmed up as we ate. We each had a salad (green and nut salad) and risotto with blueberries and pieces of venison fillet and the venison fillet with red cabbage spaetzli and glazed chestnuts in a porcini mushroom cream sauce. The main course portions are large and more than filling (it was too much for the lady), the food tastes excellent and the service is friendly and multilingual (German and Italian) We will definitely come back, it is recommended!!!

Excellent experience in this typical restaurant. Helpful and kind staff. The environment is welcoming and you feel at home. In addition to the exquisite dinners (beef fillet and risottos are tops) this place offers an excellent quality-price midday menu.

Brilliant food, toddler welcome Great restaurant. You are also very welcome with a two-year-old child (baby seat, etc., children's menus, fries for CHF 5.-). The best autumn plate (buttery tender venison fillet, mushroom sauce, heavenly spaetzli, pear, red cabbage, chestnuts & pear) that I have ever had. The starters (pumpkin soup, nut salad garnished) and the second main course (salmon) were all very tasty. Service very accommodating. Overall good value for money (large beer e.g. CHF 5.50).

We are now here like at home and always welcomed with smiles and a kind word 😍 and a naughty one every now and then 😂 The food is tasty and varied at a competitive and super honest price. The Boccalino is clearly frequented by tourists but also by locals like us from the old city, therefore an excellent, highly recommended address!

The restaurant I recently visited was an exceptional dining experience. The variety of dishes offered satisfied every taste, from traditional cuisine to more innovative proposals. The presentation of the dishes was impeccable, highlighting the chef's attention to detail. The courteous and attentive staff contributed to the welcoming atmosphere. The quality of the ingredients used was evident in every bite, giving the dishes fresh and authentic flavours. Without a doubt, a place to recommend for a memorable gastronomic experience.

Nice place, with very good home made Italian food, good service, enjoyable experience, I would come back.

Had the polenta ticinese con funghi. It was superb. I highly recommend it. I sat outside and it was lovely, though maybe a candle would have helped even it got dark. The service was efficient and friendly, kindly indulging my broken Italian.

First of all, I say that the service is really great and very pleasant. The blueberry risotto was delicious, the tartar was as good as I like it, the polenta and mushrooms were also very good, as was the osso bucco. The price is also right. The mini courtyard in the back is very cute. We had a very good time and will definitely return.

Very nice restaurant, very cozy places on the pedestrian passage. Always beautiful in summer. I was there several times. The food varies: sometimes really very good, sometimes below average. The same with the service. I experienced everything from very friendly to grumpy.

We both ended up here by chance while strolling through the city in the evening; tables in a narrow alley evoke Italian feelings. The food was delicious, the service was professional and warm-hearted. Merlot Bianco great and a dream of Grappa (infiltrated, never drunk and a taste explosion in the mouth). Not an insider tip, I want to come back sometime!!

Atmosphere and service agreeable but food relatively tasteless and overpriced

We ate well for a short time. The environment is pleasant, the volume of the music is right and it is of good quality, which is very rare. The service is excellent and the wait is short. The coffee is also good.

A hidden restaurant, beautifully located above the Piazza Grande in the middle of a small alley. The menu is clearly laid out and you can tell that the food here is really fresh, Italian-style. The taste of the food is at a high level and the service is very friendly and accommodating. Only after the main course did we have to wait a little longer until the service came back to us. Nevertheless, it was a great visit to the restaurant that deserves to be repeated. I'll definitely come back.

4 stars only for the kitchen Non-existent staff, other than bringing us our dish they didn't do it, twenty minutes of waiting to order, no one came to the table, a bottle of wine opened and never poured, we took care of it. At the end of dinner they still got up with the dessert plates on the table, no one came to clear the table, much less if we needed anything else. I will definitely return because their cuisine is really good but I will arrive with the knowledge that I will not be served like in a restaurant.

Staff friendly and well-groomed. Location is nice inside, pleasant outside but can be annoying because people are constantly walking past. We ordered the $30 burger, it was very tasty, but the meat wasn't well done enough for us. Our request was taken seriously and the crew brought new burgers that were better for us. Afterwards we found out that the meat for this burger wasn't that well done. We thank the restaurant for accommodating us. Keep it up. A tip: Maybe mention on the menu or the waitress that this meat is served like this 😉👍

Menu: Fish and rice as a side dish Fish was bland. Plus sauce, which also had no taste. Rice was mushy and far too little as a side dish. The restaurant offered dessert, but I politely declined. That's why two more stars 🌟

The best meal I had in Locarno in the last 2 days. The polleto was juicy, very seasoned and the patate was delicious. With a price of CHF 16 including salad, it's unbeatable. The restaurant is somewhat hidden in a steep side street near the Piazza Grande, I sat outside. It is also very nicely decorated inside. The service is very friendly, everything is very clean. Will definitely come back.

Super Service Owner helps himself

Food good, staff friendly and helpful. My entrecote was done the wrong way the first time around. In the second attempt I got 'medium' (a fresh piece, so not the first one grilled again). Both entrecotes were quite stringy and rather tough in places. The vegetables were simple but good, the potatoes okay. My mother's Wiener Schnitzel was huge. Less big and a little cheaper (39.-) would have been more suitable for her. Additionally, their fries were barely crispy. The service was impeccable.

Tip received from TripAdvisor. Were received very friendly and served attentively. The food was served incredibly quickly. The beef fillet was perfectly fried and tender as butter. The whole dish tasted delicious. I would love to try more dishes from the menu in the future! The price/performance ratio is right.

A place that deserves it. I just went there with my daughters for dinner. Everything was excellent, from the service to the quality of the products. I suggest cheese with fig mustard for dessert.

The place is beautiful, soberly welcoming. But the initial impact was disastrous. As soon as we entered, there was a strong smell of fried food throughout the dining room. We should have left, we stayed. To begin with, we were served a pumpkin cream that was too watery but above all burning, almost inedible. Luckily, the second courses lived up to the positive reviews we had read previously: a decent fillet of perch, grilled prawn tails, with a side of really good roast potatoes. To finish, an excellent Amarone grappa (actually, a half dose, but that's it...). Account aligned with Locarno prices.

Very nice atmosphere. On the whole we were satisfied.

We expect a better experience with the 4.5 stars comments. First, they are pretty in the rush and don't let us the time to appreciate the moment. Then, we got no explanation on the menu or the wine. Mostly because the waitress only speak Italian and German, she don't even try english to explain the wine collection. They never came for the dessert and we decided to skip it because of the poor experience we had here. Unfortunately, we didn't feel welcome in the restaurant since the beginning. Finally, we got the suprise to pay 9 CHF for a bottle of still water (we live in Switzerland, we never pay that price for 1L of water). In our opinion, this place does not deserve the 4.5 stars it got, or we were there in a very bad day.

Very fine food. Airy and good location!

I had grilled prawn on veggies with rice and it was excellent, they did a really great texture on the prawns - I really enjoyed it. The service was friendly, we were here on the first day of holiday and got a table at about 9pm, without a wait. Recommend you try it.

Der Italiener ist inmitten der wunderschönen Stadt Locarno, in einer kleinen Gasse, gelegen. Der Service ist sehr freundlich und prompt. Der Salat mit der italienischen Sauce war fantastisch und frisch, die Penne mit scharfer Sauce hervorragend. Wirklich zu empfehlen.
