Rothorn Ristorante Pizzeria in Zermatt

Zermatt is the ultimate proof that just because you're on the slopes doesn't mean you always have to eat poorly. Among the many top-notch options in the ski area, it would be a mistake to forget the Rothorn restaurant. Here, pizza reigns supreme and they are truly five-star worthy. The service is friendly and the view is magnificent. A great alternative if Vrony and the like are fully booked or simply if you crave for a delicious pizza.

I know that Switzerland is expensive, extremely expensive. Even so, I didn’t want to spend a fortune on something worth half the price. BUT I did have the Äpfelkuchen (apple tart) as the kind waitress suggested. It was good. I realize one is also paying for everything to be brought up to the top of the mountain, but for me, the level of decadence (that I was a part of) was rather disconcerting.

I booked in person with the head waiter/restaurant manger at the restaurante for a 1.30 lunch for 10 people. We turned up on time and very abruptly told by him there were no spaces. When I questioned this he became very angry and started shouting at me, became aggressive and threatening . I was shocked and upset as were the rest of the party. They were clearly busy and had forgotten to reserve a table for us. Mistakes happen and I would have accepted this; all he had to do was to politely apologise but seemed unable to do so. This is the WORST EXPERIENCE I have ever had in a restaurant and this waiter is in desperate need of customer care and anger management training.

Who knew pizza on the side of a mountain could be this good? Fantastic food and service, amazing views (of course), and a big shoutout to manager Rene who understands the art of hospitality (and hungry skiers). Plus, should I also mention the limoncello??

The waiter René served us at lunch today. With a lot of enthusiasm, joy in the job and humor, we as a family were able to enjoy a great lunch on the Rothorn. The food is excellent and we didn't have to wait long. Always come back with a lot of anticipation. We recommend!

Great pizza at 3100 meters above sea level. Friendly and fast service. Breathtaking view when the weather is nice. Even today, if it's snowing, be sure to reserve a table.

We are absolutely thrilled with this cabin. The view is fantastic and the food impressed us. The absolute highlight, however, is the head waiter Rene vom Ammersee. His joy for life is contagious and his hospitality is second to none!

Dream location and first-class service

We had reservations for 4 people. A waiter seats us at a table then a waitress takes over and takes care of our table. We place the order. So far so good. Then another waiter comes to see us and attacks us. "That we can't sit at a table like that, that the table is reserved, that we have to leave." He doesn't believe us when we tell him that we have reservations and that we have been placed here. He caused such a scandal in the restaurant that everyone was looking at us and he never apologized for his attitude or his mistake. I've never seen someone speak so badly to me in a restaurant, and for no reason at all. In short, it completely ruined our meal and it is unacceptable to be treated like this.

Great location, but CHF 12 for a plum Luz, which is served without sugar, is too expensive even for Zermatt! And then the answer from the service that it's not them but the bosses who set the prices isn't exactly great either.

Here you can feel very comfortable at an altitude of over 3,100 m, food and drink are all great

We came here to eat with friends and even though the restaurant was full everything was amazing. I have celiac disease and the gluten free pasta was really delicious and the waitress could answer all of or questions. Also the food came really fast and the service was excellent everyone was nice and professional. I would definitely come here again. If your looking for a nice place to eat before or after skiing this is definitely the right place.

I went with some friends to have lunch here and I couldn't be more happy with the experience. The food was absolutely amazing, the service was great (even tho the restaurant was full) and the view is unbelievable. 5 stars in my opinion.

Good and popular restaurant in a great ambience with a unique view. Be sure to reserve. Service extremely friendly! Pizza top and served quickly. Lasagna also very good. Unfortunately, the pasta arrived several minutes later than the pizzas, also at the neighboring table. Hence 4/5. Prices reasonable for Zermatt.

Great experience through and through, great food, great service! The waiter was very friendly and always helpful. We even got the table without a reservation. We have been coming to Zermatt for many years now and we have to say that the Rothorn has developed very positively. We'll definitely come back. Keep it up!

Thanks to the lovely service team & the kitchen, they put in a lot of effort, from the reception to the table, the restaurant manager was also there personally and asked each table how the food was. The service was very accommodating and knew my wishes before I knew them ;)! The food was also very good! We look forward to the next visit. Best regards Cem

The restaurant was full at 1 p.m. The reception manager offered to come back at 2 p.m., assuring us that a reservation was not necessary and that a table would be available. When we returned at 2 p.m., the restaurant was full. The (same!) waiter yelled that he had no seats available, that he had reservations at 2 p.m. and that he couldn't do anything if the restaurant was full! All with an aggressive and disrespectful attitude. For a resort like Zermatt, it all gives a very sad image. Where has the sense of welcome gone? A restaurant where we will not return.

I had a reservation at the restaurant I have called we are going to be late the lady on the phone said that is no problem, they have our table. When we showed up our table was already taken by someone else and the waiter was extremly rude asking what do we expect if we are late (all shouting) and he didnt give us a different table or any solutions.

Great location, great hospitality, excellent food, fantastic service! We have been coming to Zermatt for over 40 years and certainly know most of the mountain restaurants and those in town, so we allow ourselves to give a review: Very excellent and very friendly service, provided by an equally thoughtful and competent restaurant manager (René). is directed. Very nice rooms that always appear to be well maintained. Excellent food in general and especially the pizzas, which also compare very well in international comparison! The two pizza makers are really excellent! The waitresses also deserve special praise, as they always do their hard job in a friendly and attentive manner despite the high demands placed on them by many guests. No matter if it's Guiseppe, Anna, Francesca, Viola or the others, they're all great!!! The prices are certainly in the upper segment, especially the wine prices, but ultimately the warm personal touch outweighs the choice! We have always felt very comfortable here with all of our family and friends and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone very much!

Absolutely fantastic. We had lunch here today and we loved it so much we are coming back tomorrow. The food is top notch. The portions are big—I cannot imagine a world in which I could have finished the giant bowl of pasta I was served. The service was kind, friendly, and efficient. And the atmosphere and view cannot be matched. What else can you ask for?

This is a gem. Killer views all around. Great Neapolitan pizza. In fact, entire menu is a winner. We always make at least one stop here. Molto bene!

Great location with a view of the Matterhorn. The coffee is delicious. The bread at the bruscetta was dry, the pizza was good. However, given the prices, it should be a given if you need an extra plate to share. That costs an extra 10 francs here!

Since there is a new management, the quality has decreased a lot. Service could not speak any german, the food sizes are much too small compared to the pricing. The best aspect of the restaurant is the view.

Best pizza in all of Zermatt! Located at the top of the Rothorn cable car, the pizzeria makes for such a scenic coffee/lunch break on the Mountain. Please try their hawaiian pizza, paired with lasagna and a couple of campari spritz!

Magical in front of the Matterhorn!

A great pizzeria! The waiters are welcoming and speak German, English, French and Italian. The pasta, like the pizza, is delicious, and to top it off, it has one of the most beautiful views of Zermatt!!! 🌄⛷️ We had the dessert symphony and for 19chf, the portion was ideal 🍧🍮🍯

The scenery is beautiful. Today’s soup of the day is cream of cauliflower soup🥣. It’s hot and delicious.

Was OK. Everything was always TOP with the previous operator👌Unfortunately now there is no longer the delicious Swiss cuisine there. We missed them a lot and weren't really into pizzerias 😔 There were only Italian dishes and desserts - the apple strudel, which is listed below, was not even on the menu.

A wonderfully located restaurant. The views are breathtaking. Smiling and friendly service. The food was served quickly and very tasty. When the weather is nice, lunch on the observation deck is an unforgettable experience!

Food was good, but the service was slow. Waited 35 - 40 minutes for a lasagne. Which would not have mattered, but we had to leave for the next booking. Making the experience feel a bit rushed.

We arrived without a reservation and waited a while for the waiter to haughtily tell us, without looking at us and without even greeting us, that it was not possible to eat without a reservation even though some tables seemed free. So the service was terrible from the start and quite clearly we will never set foot in this establishment. Very disappointing.

What a bad experience ! we booked a table for 6 persons a month ago and the manager gave us a table for 4 and he was realy agressive and not nice at all ! he was just about to fire us if we don t agree , DON T GO THERE !

The food was good although the prices were as high as the Swiss Alps. It was also a bit sad to see empty "reserved" tables and people looking for a table being turned down. Waiting staff were amazing and understanding but it seemed like table management could do a bit better, sorry Guido.

Pricy Restaurant and bar, but the gorgeous view comes with a price.

The door with the entrance sign is closed, exploring you see that it is accessed through the upper terrace, but a dry and haughty individual tells you that you cannot enter because the bar is full and if you want to have a drink it must be on the terrace, with the tables and chairs covered in snow, which they have not even bothered to clean, in no other mountain restaurant in Zermatt have I come across such rudeness

We booked a table for 11:45 for 4 for my husband's birthday lunch. My friend and I arrived on time and took drinks order. At 12:00 the manager came over to ask when the other two are coming as this table is reserved in the next hour and was rushing us to order. (I guess they expect us to finish our lunch in an hour and 15mins?) A minute or two later the crew arrived and we ordered quite a lot which took our dining time to over an hour. No one rushed us by then but the manager in the end had to tell us how he went out of his way to rearrange the tables to accommodate us... In my opinion that duty comes with the job title. Overall the experience was underwhelming as we felt rushed and were of inconvenience to others.

If you are Italian and have the bad habit of ordering dishes from your own countries even when you are abroad, you are on the safe side here: they make the only real carbonara in the whole of Valais and the pizza is Neapolitan reviewer-proof. If, however, you want to load up on calories with Rösti and Käsewchnitte, avoid them, the menu does not include them. For the rest, the view is simply incredible and the service efficient. The prices are in line with other restaurants in the area, obviously if you are used to Italian ones, try to remember that you are not in Italy. It's not difficult, come on.

Excellent food for a fair price. I was surprised that a meal for a family of 5, including aperitif, digestif, alcoholic drinks, desert and service, was scarcely more expensive than the restaurant down in Sunnegga. Food was very good. Recommend the pizza ai quattro formaggi, the tomato basil soup, and the panna cotta.

Service was excellent. The food was good, compliments to the chef. We had no reservation but were seated quickly. Drinks were served within 5 minutes & our food order was taken quickly. English is spoken, which helped our mediocre attempts at German. It is kept nicely warm to counter the cold winds outside. Pricing is similar to the rest of Zermatt, but the smiles were bigger!

This is the worst food I’ve had in Zermatt. Nothing was seasoned. I ordered hot peppers on my pizza (a menu ingredient) and they threw fridge-cold bell peppers on the side.

The food was good. It’s a nice spot to get out of the freezing cold in Rothorn. The restaurant seems to run very efficiently. We were seated without a reservation.

Big family visit with no booking and unexpectedly the best service , ambiance and pizza/pasta you can wish for. Attention to detail and efficiency were amazing and the manager/head waiter was super friendly and fun. Would happily come again. X

We waited 40 minutes for the tomato soup, even though there were few guests. Bruschetta was just dry bread with ice cold diced tomatoes! We will no longer eat at the Rothorn restaurant!

We ordered lasagna and fettucini to eat. The table next to us ordered a minute before us and already had their food within minutes whilst we are still waiting for our food now and it’s been more than an hour. We have to go somewhere in Zermatt town after this and really hungry at the moment. We even had to asked for the complimentary bread as we saw other tables got it besides us, they can’t even be bothered to offer. Would never recommend this place - a very bad experience !!! Please improve your service. Is it because we were the only Asian people at this restaurant ? TWO THUMBS DOWN FOR THIS RESTAURANT AND THE LADY WHO TOOK OUR ORDER who never responded when we asked when is the food coming.

Unfortunately it's closed! No notice at the valley station in Zermatt. There is also no kiosk or snack machine, which is kind of bad for a place like Zermatt! There is a need to catch up and the operators of Rothorn Ristorante Pizzeria should adapt the website. Thanks!

It's shut but I saved myself a small fortune by taking my own sandwiches and sitting on a bench outside the restaurant. Lovely.

Fabulous Italian cuisine restaurant. The cozy interior and the terrace with some of the most impressive views of the ski area, with the majestic Matternorn, the Gornergrat and the glaciers. The service is up to par, with kindness and sympathy. Highly recommended
