Schloss Bottmingen in Bottmingen

Very friendly service and we were assigned a great table. There was a bag of bread on the table and two different small wrapped butters on a small plate. There was no butter knife. At this price range we missed a greeting from the kitchen. For the aperitif we have a glass of Chablis for CHF 13.00 each. Starters: Salade verte at 11:00 without any garnish, served in a small bowl, fresh and excellent salad dressing and a slice of fried foie gras at 20:00, carelessly garnished with two dollops of sauce and a piece of brioche, was good. Main courses: 150 g entrecôte at 39.00, served with Café de Paris and vegetables and thin fries. The vegetables consisted of a floret of broccoli and half a completely overcooked baby carrot. The set was completely missing. Entrecôte cru 250 g at 89.00, also with the same side dishes. The difference between the two pieces of meat is minimal and with the cru you still have to cut away about 50 g of fat. A glass of red wine each (small selection of open red wines) at 7 p.m. each! Dessert: 1 time of creme brulée at 3 p.m., about 3 tablespoons, was good, but not special, 1 time of poire “belle Helene” at 2 p.m. came in a coupe glass with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, half a cooked pear cut into pieces, chocolate sauce and two dollops of whipped cream. This dessert also came out of the cooler quickly and ready (except for the cream from the can). The pear was so cold that you had to hold it in your mouth and the chocolate was so cold that you had to cut it off. Two wrapped sugars and two café creams came to the café on a small plate. Also on this plate is a wrapped biscuit. The total bill was CHF 281.00, which definitely does not correspond to the service. The idea of ​​the brasserie is intended to appeal to a different clientele than before, but with these prices and quality, this concept will definitely not work. A pity!

We were invited to the pre-opening of the brasserie two weeks ago. Four people came, 2 adults, 1 teenager and 1 dog. Very polite reception right from the start. Aperitif and menu suggestion as well as the new menu are great. Wine recommendation for the individual courses is absolutely appropriate. The food is absolutely top class and leaves nothing to be desired. An evening and a meal to enjoy.

Nice venue in Boottmingen. House is located in a nice park offering parking possibilities. Comfortable terrace allowing to eat outside according weather. Food is good, staff is helpful and efficient, prices accordingly.

The New Year's Eve celebration at Bottmingen Castle, which cost us over CHF 200.00 per person plus drinks, i.e. over CHF 1000.00 for 4 people, was a disappointment! A pure money-making scheme on the part of the restaurant! The service staff was friendly, but obviously not specialist staff. For a restaurant in this category the service was unprofessional. The food and the supporting program were so-so. All in all, the event was disappointing and in the future we will again prefer home-style restaurants with trained, warm service staff and fine cuisine in the Basel region.

Once again I decided to enjoy my birthday with a fine meal, with great service and a cozy atmosphere. And I wasn't disappointed: this lunch was simply amazing! Sun in the sky, on the plate and in the glass: this is how life is fun!

A wonderful restaurant situated in the picturesque Bottmingen Castle. The food was well presented, tasty and introduced by our waiter before each course, so that we knew what to expect! :) The staff were lovely. Very attentive without being intrusive. Yesterday we were able to have dinner at Bottmingen Castle on our 5th wedding anniversary. After various small and very tasty culinary greetings from the kitchen, we ate marinated salmon as a starter and then a Chateaubriand. Both were excellent and the Bernaise sauce was world class. My daughter, her husband and my wife's family decided to have a new experience abroad for the first time together and we made a reservation at Schloss Bottmingen. The place, location and welcome were very satisfactory. We chose 4 and 5 types of menus, some of the service was perhaps weak for our taste, but the presentation, explanation, catering and attention of the waiter in charge of our table was great. We as a family were very pleased.

We were invited to Bottmingen Castle to renew the wedding vows of a couple of friends. The beautiful banquet hall was festively decorated and covered entirely in white 👌🏼 The service was very attentive, well dressed and very friendly. The food and the plate arrangement were excellent. An ideal location for family celebrations, weddings or birthdays. Gladly again at any time 😉👍🏼

A very special restaurant with great food and exceptional staff and atmosphere. My parents had a wonderful wedding anniversary.

The very beautiful castle was recommended to me by good friends for my wedding. We wanted to celebrate our wedding there, so I asked the sales & banquet coordinator about the offers there. I have to admit, I was shocked by the unfriendly and snooty information and manner of the lady. I wouldn't have expected such behavior from such a well-known house. I'll probably never know whether you can eat as well there as reported. I would recommend that the owner train his staff in terms of friendliness and customer relations.

Bottmingen Castle is one of the last three moated castles with water in Switzerland. A popular place to get married and even though it is more expensive than other places, you have to eat here once in your life. There remain many wonderful memories.

Service was perfect. Unfortunately the food isn't that good. Wouldn't go back. Lobster didn't taste like anything. Red wine sauce has a sour taste. Fish from another table smelled funny and bothered us.

Friendliness to normal hikers is missing. I'm disappointed that we can't even look at the castle because of the noble guests.

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with Bottmingen Castle, even though the location is really unique. I recently attended a ball there with a large group of people. Although there were a lot of service staff on duty, the service wasn't even like that at a village festival. When I told the waitress that I didn't drink wine, all of my glasses were cleared away and I wasn't asked if I wanted to drink anything else. Later I ordered a cola, which I had to ask three times before the drink finally came. When the waitress came with the bottle, she said bluntly, "You don't have a glass, why don't you say you don't have a glass?" She then just stands there, thinking I could conjure up a glass out of nothing. I then politely asked for a glass and received it about twenty minutes later, when the cola was already warm. Four people at our table were vegetarian (and remained so throughout the meal), but the service never managed to serve all of the guests at the same time. The vegetarians each waited ten minutes or more for their food while the others finished the course. For the main course I received, no joke, four and a half fingernail-sized gnocchi. Fine dining with all honor - but such a portion fits on a fork and is just petty. Before the main course, the staff wanted to collect the wine, which is just annoying and rude - the guests don't run away. Overall, the service staff was just very inattentive - I don't understand how you can walk past a table ten times and not see that a guest hasn't eaten yet. As a guest you feel stupid if you have already asked three waiters and nothing happens. Following on from previous reviews here, I would also like to say that serving foie gras no longer has anything to do with good taste or fine dining. Foie Gras is such a cruelly produced dish that even the best taste doesn't justify it. A house with a name like Bottmingen Castle should be ashamed to still have something like that on the map. God knows there are enough other dishes that are not produced so cruelly. I would have expected a little more class here.

Splendid restaurant located in a castle, top cuisine, top welcome, incredible setting, worth a visit.

We were planning on celebrating my grandson's baptism at your place, but then I saw that you were offering stuffed goose liver on your menu. The fact that such disgusting animal cruelty finds its way onto your plate speaks for itself. Well, it's a shame, you're missing out on a meal for over 20 people and you don't even deserve a single star.

We had a great dining experience, which is, to our current knowledge, a rather rare joy in Switzerland. Here not only the food met expectations, but the professional and friendly service as well. Among all, the beef was heavenly and some great wine we discovered, thanks for the information from the waiter. If anything, then the petite fours coming with the coffee were less satisfactory, but that took nothing from the value of the lovely evening.

Michelin starred restaurant just outside Basel, located in a castle. It adds some charm to your visit, and while the service won’t disappoint, the atmosphere is a bit flat. Nothing extraordinary. The staff is very attentive and deserves a recognition. You can go for the surprise menu which is quite elaborate in composition, and well balanced. The menu is adapted regularly on the season. It’s definitely worth visiting.

OK Expensive restaurant with exorbitant prices

Christmas menu from December 26th, 2021: Waiting time for the “Amuse-Geule” service of over 65 minutes. The second course was unfortunately served lukewarm and was also tough and not seasoned (sole). The rest of the menu is mediocre and cannot keep up with our own demands for “enjoyment at the highest level”, at least on this evening. @Chef de Service: Sneakers for service employees are not compatible with the culinary requirements of your establishment and are a "no go", dark sneakers with white soles are certainly not. If your service staff asks whether it was tasty, the answer is intended as a message for the kitchen and not an invitation to a debate. If the food is not sufficiently salted, the advice that you should add more salt with the salt shaker on a distant table is not compatible with the award of 16 Gault&Millau points. @Chef de cuisine: the interaction with the service needs to be optimized. The dishes were not properly seasoned. A pity. I would have liked to discuss these points directly with the person responsible, but after paying the bill no one was there.
