Visiting Geneva with Belgian friends, the old carouge was recommended to us by a local as being the best fondue in Geneva. A big thank you to this gentleman and even more to the Norman waiter who welcomed us with kindness and sympathy! A warm welcome in a rustic setting. The fondue was delicious, as was the atmosphere of the evening! A real discovery, we will come back expressly for this address!

I had a plat du jour (October '23) - spaghetti and pork. The pasta was overcooked, the tomato sauce felt like it came out of a cheap plastic bottle, and the cheese felt like shredded plastic. The waiter was nice enough but the waitress was awful, so unwelcoming. No card payment either which isn't advertised anywhere on the front of the restaurant. I find it a waste seeing as it is in a nice spot. Won't be coming again.

Certainly the fondue is excellent, but the service and staff are a disaster. Not smiling, not cordial, they speak to you in an angry tone. We had the misfortune of asking for water, "Madam, I don't have a carafe!!", "And first of all, we don't drink water with a fondue!!". It's a local restaurant for local people! Fabulous fondue but don't expect to waltz in as a tourist. Nearby residents will have priority, quite rightly so. The amount of times someone will enter and be greeted by their old friends and neighbours is revealing. My experience was wonderful but I was the guest of a family that live in the neighbourhood. Free wine that was paid for by the the bloke that vacated our table, and the restaurant itself when we required less than a full bottle added to our visit.

I came here almost four years ago with my now husband when we first started dating. It was our first trip together- now, of many. We didn’t realize how late people ate and made no reservations. We walked in and basically told they well full. Bummed, we left and started walking to find another place to eat. All of a sudden this older later, speaking French, told us we could have a table as long as we left by a certain time. The owners and ambiance were warm and welcoming. Jokingly, we call it “grandma’s place”. It is a memory that we both fondly look back on. We look forward to coming back to Geneva and visiting this spot- with reservations this time of course.
