Nice SAC mountain hut. The old part of the hut has charm. The new part is functional. Food was plentiful, and anyone who didn't have enough would be given a second helping. Food was simple, but usual for a mountain hut and very good. The cabin was very clean. The mattress beds in the new building were very quiet, no creaking wooden floorboards etc., which was good for sleep. The beds could be a bit short for tall people. My 185cm fit in without any problems. All in all, a mountain hut that I expect and appreciate. No hut is more of a mountain hotel than a hut. The view of the valley was also great. Price-wise, it’s also completely okay. I can't complain about too many rules. I found the rules to be more typical of cabins in the mountains.

The Wildhornhütte is 2302 m above sea level. A hiking trail leads from Iffigenalp (Lenk) via Iffigensee to the hut. Another walking option is from Lauenensee in about 3.5 hours. The team is friendly and very well coordinated. You have to enjoy the homemade cakes. And always greeted by the house dog Ben. The view of Lake Iffigen and the surrounding mountains invites you to linger. Starting point for hikes further to the Chilchligengletescher and Schnidejoch and into the Valais Ayent.

After that terrible night, my family was so exhausted and shaken that instead of going on the planned mountain hike, they just wanted to get down as soon as possible. Although the men were only treated in this way by the hut's employees (which is actually prohibited under Article 29 of the Hospitality Act), the hut attendants refused any responsibility and were not prepared to make any gesture towards us. Nice hut, but very large with around 95 beds. Accordingly, we noticed the operators' customer proximity and hospitality less than in other SAC huts (we already know a few). The dinner was very simple (pasta with bolo, caramel chop), but completely OK. We spent the night in a group of 16 with lots of children, there was a lot going on all night long. The replenishment didn't work out at breakfast, but in the end we were at least full. Overall, the stay was OK for us, but nothing more than that. Price/performance, well...

There's many ways to get to Wildhorn Hut. I did the walk from Lauenensee, up to Gelten Hut to see the yacks on the Rottal plateau, then it was a steep hike to Wildhorn Hut with views on Iffigsee below surrounded by cows - the perfect swiss postcard picture - tehn back to Lauenesee for a swim (7h30 hike on a commando pace)
