Wirtshaus zur Markthalle in Zofingen

It was my first time to have dinner in the market hall in the pedestrian zone in Zofingen. I would like to give it 3.5 stars. In terms of ambience, the seating was far too tight, and because several groups were present, the noise level was unpleasantly loud, meaning that normal communication could not take place. Both waitresses don't really seem to be experts, it felt like it took forever until we were finally served, and this lasted the whole evening. Even the small one of serving across the table and clearing away while the other person is still eating doesn't seem to have reached the market hall yet. Compliments to the kitchen, the food was excellent. If only the bread in the basket had still been fresh, but based on the different sized pieces diced together, I assume that they have already been served on several tables. Because the amuse bouche, the starter and the main course took 2.5 hours, we decided to have the dessert elsewhere.

Time-honored inn with a cozy lounge in the old town of Zofingen. Wide selection of food and wine. The market hall salad as a starter was excellent. The tagliatelle with black truffle was good, but nothing special in terms of taste. I expected more. The service was friendly and quick.

Very friendly waitor who helped us with English translations on our first stop of a two-week vacation. Very hard working crew of two and the food was good. We enjoyed going there and would recommend!

The food was overall O.K. Our waitress was the friendly gentleman with a beard. Unfortunately, when we asked if we could order another vegetable with the fish, he didn't give an answer and simply left. When you later asked if we could get a little more ice cream (we would of course have been happy to pay for this) he replied that the portion was specified and that this was not possible...a shame. The same thing to another question: Unfortunately there was no answer, he simply ignored us. At the end when paying, he himself (!) grabbed our bank card, which was lying on the table in his wallet, and immediately paid himself - a no-go! Just cheeky and arrogant - is that how you treat guests? Won't come back.

Based on the website, I had certain expectations that were not met. The lunch meal was ok, I expected something better. The waitress wasn't very attentive and didn't say goodbye to us even though she was standing next to the door.

The pike perch with champagne sauce is a dream. The fish was perfect, the sauce was just incredibly good. My friend had the veal cordon bleu and was also more than satisfied. Service top. We were there for the first but definitely not the last time🤩

If you're ever in Zofingen, be sure to check out Restaurant Wirtshaus zur Markthalle. The food is fantastic - I had the Entrecote Café de Paris and it was amazing. The restaurant works with local products, so you know the ingredients are fresh and of great quality. Plus, the service is wonderful. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Zofingen!

Yesterday we went to a registered business lunch (13 people) at the Wirtshaus zur Markthalle in Zofingen. In advance, everyone chose their lunch from one of the operator's 3 suggested menus. Of the 13 menus, 3 menus were ordered as 1/2 portions in order to avoid food waste. The reception was friendly. We got our seats on the first floor in the Säli. Nice ambience The service was difficult at first. The first person serving seemed untrained. It was difficult to get the drinks and it took a long time to bring the drinks. The food service by the new waitress was quick. The food was very good. The billing afterwards is a bit questionable. Clearly the company doesn't like it very much if everything is paid for individually. Everyone received their individual printed invoice which they had to pay. This is good and clear. Only: the half menus were charged as a whole. Hello? It's clear that personnel costs remain the same, but purchasing definitely doesn't. If you had mentioned this in advance, you could have had the goods that you had paid for but not received packed up. The service staff was clearly not comfortable with the situation and reacted irritably with “you can complain about the price in the kitchen” OK. Everything is still understandable. There's nothing she can do about it. . But the best comes last: We get a phone call that afternoon saying we hadn't paid for everything. Two drinks were not paid for??? Each of us was presented with an invoice which we paid. The error was more likely with the operator who didn't type something. Well, we went back again in the evening and paid for drinks. A unique experience that will probably remain unique.

Price performance is somehow not right at all. Mini portions. Deer pepper with just 5 meatballs and mini portions of red cabbage. Cordonbleu of veal (really damn small) with fries 42fr. and without vegetables. There are much better restaurants with fairer prices and portion sizes in Zofingen. For me, I don't really recommend us. Sorry market hall team. But unfortunately true

Nach vielen Monaten wieder geniessen...wir...wie viele andere haben uns so gefreut wieder einmal fein essen zu gehen und das in einer ungezwungenen Umgebung. Trotz aller Sicherheitsmassnahmen, die hier voll erfüllt wurden, haben wir diesen Abend sehr genossen! Das Essen war wie immer hervorragend und die Weine rundeten diesen wunderschönen Abend vollkommen ab. Dieser Abend war ein tolles „come back“ und wir freuen uns auf noch sehr viele wunderschöne Abende in der Markthalle!! Vielen Dank an die Köche, das Personal und die vielen Menschen im Hintergrund die all das möglich gemacht haben.

Wir waren zum Wildessen in der Markthalle gewesen. Die Speisekarte hatte sehr viele verschiedene Wildgerichten zu bieten. Die Vorspeise, ebenfalls ein Wildgericht....herrlich. Jeder von uns hat verschiedene Wildgerichte gegessen.und jedes einzelne Gericht war kurz gesagt sehr sehr lecker und gut. Alles war frisch zubereitet!!! Das hat man a.gesehen und b. auch Geschmeckt. Die Spätzle waren ein Traum und das selbstgemachte Gemüse ( z.B. ganz klein geschnittener Kürbis, was sehr schwierig ist in dieser kleinen Grösse, war noch knackig und sehr gut abgeschmeckt. Das Wild war auf den Punkt genau gebraten....rundum hat die Küche uns wieder einmal überzeugt. Auf eine Scala von 0 -10 eine glatte 12 !! Leider und das ist wirklich schade und ich schreibe das auch nicht so gerne, aber man sollte fair und ehrlich sein. Der Service ist eine Schwachstelle in diesem sonst so schönen Restaurant das einen begnadeten Koch hat. Da gibt es sicherlich noch Besserungsbedarf. Aber man sollte Fair sein und auch hier dem Restaurant eine faire Chance geben denn gutes Personal ist auch nicht immer leicht zu bekommen. Und zudem kann ja jeder einmal und das ist menschlich, jeder hat das sicher schon einmal erlebt, einen schlechten Tag haben. Nur ist das, wie in diesem Fall nicht sehr dienlich bei einer Bewertung über dies sonst so tolles Restaurant!!!!! Sorry

Wir haben um 19.00h einen Tisch reserviert und hatten um 19.30h weder eine Speisekarte oder etwas zu trinken erhalten und das obwohl wir 2 Kinder dabei hatten....Leider muss ich sagen, dass der Service, die Unfreundlichkeit und Inkompetenz zu den schlimmsten Erfahrungen ist was ich in der Gastronomie schon erlebt habe.Schade!!!

Seit der Neueröffnung waren wir schon einige Male hier essen gewesen und waren mehr als positiv über das Essen, der Auswahl an Gerichten und dem freundlichen und kompetenten Personal überrascht. Der neue Pächter bzw. Koch überzeugte mit seinen Menüs, der Auswahl an Gerichten und saisonalen Speisen. Hier wird in der wunderschönen und geschichtsträchtigen Stadt wieder sehr gute Schweizer Küche angeboten. Weiter so.......wir kommen immer sehr gerne!!!

Entgegen unseres Besuches vor 2 Jahren hat sich hier vieles verändert ( neuer Chef). Sehr freundliche Bedienung, tolle Auswahl an Gerichten und das Essen ein Traum. Wir kommen wieder

We came here for dinner for the first time and were completely surprised. Very friendly welcome in a good atmosphere. The food was very, very good and the wine was fantastic. The market hall has been under new management since January 2020. We went for a test dinner. Very nice menu selection for lunch. We ordered four of the six menu items. Good portions, nicely prepared and really tasty. Also attentive service. What more do you want. Keep it up!

Wir waren seit Start des neuen Wirtepaars schon zweimal in diesem schönen und gemütlichen Restaurant. Das Essen schmeckte hervorragend. Das Eglifilet und das zarte Rindsgulasch mit sehr feinem Kartoffelstock waren bis jetzt die Highlights. Aber auch das Fondue mit Pommery Senf und Bier sowie Zanderfilet & Züri Gschnetzteltes schmeckten sehr gut.Das Team ist sehr freundlich und es gibt zum Start sogar ein Amuse bouche. Ich kann dieses Restaurant sehr empfehlen. Der Start des neuen Teams ist geglückt. Wir kommen wieder.

Hello everyone I chose the recommendation on the menu at lunchtime on February 4th, 2020. “Pork fillets in a lemon-basil cream sauce with fried croquettes and vegetables” including soup first. (pictures included) Conclusion: I'll definitely come back, the food was really great and the service was quick and uncomplicated. Price-performance: Menu + soup + 0.5 cola for 30.70 CHF, really justified by the quality and absolutely fine. Therefore keep it up.

Leider nur 4 Male hat Walter Gloor ein Gourmet Menu kreiert. Ein 5 Gang Menu das keine Wünsche offen liess. Walter Gloor ist bekannt durch seine ehemalige Tätigkeit im Restaurant Federal in Zofingen mit GaultMilleau Niveau.Begonnen mit einem Amuse Bouche in 4 facher Ausfertigung, dann ein feines Lachs Carpaggio mit Limetten-Soja Dressing. Auf dem Lachs eine dünne Schicht mit Frühlingszwiebeln und ganz fein geschnittenem Ingwer gab eine spannende Mischung.Die Rüeblisuppe mit Vanille und Chardonnay beinhaltete eine gebratene Jakobs- Muschel. Der Vanillegeschmack hat die Rüebli fast etwas dominert, aber in Zusammenhang mit der Muschel eine feine Kombination.Dann der Hauptgang mit je einem kleinen Bison- und Kalbsfilet mit Morcheln und Trüffeljus begleitet von Polenta in einer Ravioli Hülle sowie Saisongemüse.Ich hatte Glück, meine Fleischstücke waren wunderbar gebraten, meine Partnerin hatte mit dem Bison etwa weniger Glück, dieses war relativ hart.Gesamteindruck aber sehr gut. Dann als 1. Dessert einen Käseteller mit 6 verschiedenen Käsesorten vom Nachbarn, dem Chäslädeli Roth. Alles ausgesucht feine Stückchen, vom rezenten Belgier bis zum Früchtebrot und Trauben war kein Wunsch offen.Gekrönt wurde das Essen vom süssen Dessert mit einem Mangopudding und Mango-Chilisalat. Auch hier eine wunderbare Mischung aus süss und scharf:Besonders gefallen haben mir auch die Portionen, gross genug um zu geniesen, aber nicht zu gross, so dass wir nicht mit vollem Magen den Kaffee mit Friandieses unter einem Mandeltuille genissen konnten.Absolut empfehlenswert und wir hoffen auf weitere kulinarische Höhenflüge mit Walti Gloor.

3 Personen - Rechnung um die 100 Fr. Auf der Rechnung 4.50 F. für einen halben Liter Leitungswasser. Das Essen war ok, aber auch nicht mehr. Als Restaurantbetreiber im Ausland kann ich nur sagen ABZOCKE.Service sollte den Gast informieren, wenn der Besitzer die grosse Kohl machen will.

Today I was in this restaurant for the first time. It's game season at the moment. The food was really good. The only negative was the scalded and bitter coffee. There is potential for improvement.

An einem normalen Wochentag hatte wir fast Schwierigkeiten einen Platz in der Markthalle zu bekommen. Sie war bis auf unsere Plätze komplett ausgebucht. Was ja für das Essen und den Wirt spricht. Wir hatten ein sehr feines Essen und die Beilagen, das Gemüse war sehr knackig und sehr gut zubereitet, es hatte auf jedenfalls noch Biss. Das Risotto war perfekt gewesen. Leider war das Fleisch mir etwas zu scharf gewürzt, aber das ist ja auch Geschmack Sache. Meine Begleitung hatte Pommes mit Schnitzel. Die Pommes waren sehr gut und lecker gemacht. Leider war das Schnitzel doch etwas klein ausgefallen. Was ich immer wieder sehr bedauere das man auf Anfrage auf eine halbe Portion meistens eine Absage bekommt. Es gibt auch Gäste die solch große Portionen nicht mehr essen mögen bzw. können. Da nimmt man lieber in Kauf das der Teller halb voll wieder zurück in die Küche geht und weg geworfen wird. Was ich wiederum sehr bedauere. Das zeigt doch wieder einmal unsere wegwerf Mentalität! Sehr schade. Ich könnte mir schon vorstellen das es mit den halben Portionen funktionieren würde und es für den Koch/Köchin keine so große Umstellung wäre. Vielleicht eine Anregung für den oder die Wirte. Der Abend jedoch war sonst sehr schön, das Personal sehr freundlich und das ganze Ambiente war sehr gemütlich gewesen.

As a group of 11 people (all between 40 and 70 years old) we were present in the market hall on Hirsmontag (Schnitzelbänke in Zofingen). We had reserved in advance. The restaurant was packed to capacity. Schnipo was good but rather small compared to last time. The demonstrations of the schnitzel benches lasted until shortly before midnight. The boss started collecting at around 12:20 a.m. and at the same time asked for the last round. Our group consumed between 55 Fr. and at least 90 Fr. per person. At around 12:35 a.m. the boss told us, firmly but kindly, that it was now the end of the working day. We took the last sip and wanted to leave. Less than 5 minutes later the boss came to our table with a scowl on his face and said in a very inappropriate tone: I said when work was over and not YOU. Good night. We couldn't understand his unfriendly manner. In our eyes, his appearance was inappropriate. A pity! For us, it was an inappropriate end to the carnival evening that will be remembered negatively.

Mi sono goduta fino all’ultimo boccone questa fantastica cotoletta di vitello tenerissima, con panatura fatta in casa, accompagnata da un Rosti di patate eccezionale. Super!

Gestalterisch kein Juwel, aber muss es auch nicht.2) Kerniger, freundlicher, humorvoller, kompetenter Service.3) Das Essen ist sehr ehrlich, gut und korrekt. Geschmack, Würzung, Haptik, Form und Farbe sind gut und ohne Firlefanz.4) Die Preise sind für das Gebotene akkurat.Gerne wieder.
