Alpwirtschaft Kohlwald in Gommiswald

Let me start by saying it's very Spartan, very basic (and I say it as a positive aspect). No frills, you enter, you sit down (you may end up sitting next to someone since there are benches with some long tables, but it's all very comfortable). The atmosphere is very cozy and in winter it's basically on the ski piste, the reason for which it's closed the access by car. Prices are very honest, 2 main, 2 beers and 2 desserts we spent around 30/40 Fr (it was a while ago, I don't remember). The people speak good English and they're very helpful. Always fresh food, they cook what they have available at the moment (no mass production), they have max 30 seats for guests.

Our meat wasn't good, mine wasn't cooked through, I said it then I had to wait 10 minutes. Wait until it came back and the pasta salad sauce was greasy. And the prices were too expensive. So we won't eat there anymore despite the beautiful view.

Hearty alpine restaurant with a fantastic view of Lake Zurich and the Linth plain. Very nice and courteous service as well as fine food and drink. The alpine farm is worth a trip. We are already looking forward to the next visit.

No cold plates available at lunchtime, only menus, where can you get that?

The Kohlwald Alpwirtschaft, Cholwald 1, CH-8739 Rieden in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland (www.kohlwald ch) is quietly and idyllicly located at 1,086 meters above sea level. On the restaurant terrace you can enjoy a great view of the Linth Plain and Lake Zurich. Joggi and Brigitte Wildhaber run this great alpine farm in a friendly, courteous and professional manner. Here the service is perfect from A to Z! The food is super tasty - there are excellent grilled sausages, sausages and steaks. In addition to coffee, you can also get other drinks here, such as super fine apple juice from the Möhl cider factory, from Arbon - fine wine from the Salzer GmbH wine shop, Gommiswald as well as pastries from the Huber bakery, Gommiswald (e.g. almond fish) and meat from the Meier butcher's shop in Gommiswald.
