Anker in Bern

Very central restaurant, offering Bernese specialties. Very good and welcoming. Advised!

The location is very nice. Unfortunately the service was catastrophic. An Aperol was poured down my back and the service just said I got more. I didn't want to pay this but she only wanted to deduct 5 chf even though it cost over 11 chf. Simply an impudence. The food, the liver, tasted like rubber and the salad had probably been sitting somewhere for two days. They definitely don't know spices. I haven't eaten so badly in a long time. I would like to give negative points for service and food, but unfortunately that's not possible. For the price, it's the worst restaurant I've ever been to.

Despite the staff not always being the most friendly and welcoming, the setting of this bistro is simply charming. Since I was little, when we went to Bern with my parents, we stopped to eat röestis at Anker. They are simply delicious. Don't stop at the menu which seems very touristy and you will be pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately prices have increased a lot in recent years so I come there less often.

Bourgeois cuisine in a rustic setting.

This was something horrible. Service ignored us at the first moment we came. This lady absolutely didnt know what she was doing. She gave us appetizer first and then drinks. Also she didnt remember our order and she was asking us min. twice. She didnt apologize for nothing. Back to appetizer, she gave us something what we didnt order. Unproffesional. I found a hairs in my food. Also we’ve waited for the day menu almost 45 min. We really dont recommend this restaurant.

Too expensive and not a good Rösti

Against our better judgement, we decided to give it a try. Don’t make the same mistake! Rosti came out in 5 minutes and consisted of spoonfuls of old grated potato falling apart. It was greasy and rancid, and had no buttery taste. Just oily potato that had been sitting on the stove for hours. Bacon was too salty. To add insult to injury, the temperature in the restaurant was way too high, making it hot and stuffy.

My girlfriend and I wanted to eat fries and chicken nuggets at Anker. Unfortunately we were not allowed to do this because we are too old for this menu (children's menu). Who's going to tell me what I should and shouldn't eat? Is it still okay? We feel severely discriminated against because of our age (25 & 28). We would have paid twice as much. Well, we two Bernese women can't go to anchor anymore. A pity!

We only drank one beer because unfortunately, despite being Saturday, the last round started at around 10 p.m. An original pub/restaurant, nice service.

A characteristic place but perhaps a little too "touristy". The food is good. The staff attentive and kind.

A “rustic” Bernese restaurant. The menu is very touristy with lots of pictures. The ambience is a bit dated but still definitely a “neighborhood pub”. The portions are large and the quality of the food is good but not outstanding. Good price/performance ratio. The service was very good, fast, efficient and friendly.

I was at Restaurant Anker in Bern last week and had the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. First of all, they took us to a room at the back even though there was so much free space in the front and then the glasses still looked used. When we left the waitress said I hope you left the table clean. An absolute no-go.

Very good restaurant I tasted the vegetarian Roschis they were sooo good. A true delight. The setting was pleasant as a tourist I loved the restaurant style also the service nothing to complain about. Summary good value for money

I ate in this restaurant with Friends tonight, I was expected to eat typical Swiss food and be well received by the waitress but neither food or waitress was good. The "fondu" was disgusting and rusties was just match potatoes with one egg and bacon with cheese. I can do the the same in my house with only one hand. It was disgusting I didn't like it at all and of course I leave the restaurant as starving than when I came. Same for m'y Friends who didn't fisnished the fondue. The waitress that coudn't understand english made 3 mistakes on our orders and Never apologize for that. She showed that she was pissed and annoyed by us. The food was son expensive 30 CHF for this disgusting fondue and 28 CHF for rusties (smatch potatoes). The waitress yell at us because of her mistakes. This place is horrible, if you want a propre food Never go there! It's a precious advice.

Half an hour of waiting for a pumpkin soup that didn't taste like anything. Salt and pepper shakers were poor, conditions unfriendly and insulting, price absolutely not justified, overpriced, schnitzel tough and cooked in the deep fryer. Never again

Good restaurant where we ate twice thanks to the good food and the friendly service. On our second visit we would have liked to stay longer, but unfortunately a gentleman (probably a regular guest) smelled so bad that we lost our appetite. (We sat inside). Happy to come back ☺️

I am Swiss (Bern), this place is not. Pure tourist trap, expensive (yes, we are in Switzerland but believe me, for that price you can get GOOD Swiss food), plates are not the way they traditionally should be which would be ok if at least it tasted good. And to top it all off the staff is rude. Avoid at all cost! We have way better to offer! We were ashamed to have brought our friend to try our Swiss food in this horrible place! Never again.

When I entered the establishment none of the waiters greeted me or accompanied me to any table, nor did they bring me the menu, I had to grab it myself from another table and it took them a while to come and take my order. I ordered some pieces of battered fish with potatoes and sauce (what would be typical fish and chips). The dish cost 35 CHF, which I wouldn't pay again because it's not worth it. The bathrooms are on the ground floor, there is only one toilet for women and be careful because there was a huge spider inside the sink.

Potatoes, melted cheese and bread. It's okay to eat. Dessert is also a disaster.

The best one ever I tried in Europe.

The anchor is one of the few Rst. in the city center that still offers Swiss cuisine. The standard is not high, but the food is good. The service still has potential for improvement. The large outdoor area is great in summer. Recommendation: military cheese slices.

For Asians, the food was definitely salty and the pre-dinner bread served wasn't very good either.

*Tourist trap* The food was so salty that my mouth was burning. It immediately cut my appetite. We had called to reserve a table for 6 and when we arrived there was no reservation and they were very rude about it. The prices are way too high for the quality of food they serve. The service afterwards was mediocre and extremely slow (Didn’t ask us once how the food was during the meal). I must say, it’s really difficult to ruin swiss food because it’s very simple. Especially Rösti with melted Raclette Cheese and 2 (barely cooked) eggs…… anyways, never again. If you want good quality swiss food with respectful staff we recommend the Lötschberg restaurant instead (200m from this place).

Very nice food but the service is very bad, the waitress was very rude when took the order knowing that we didn’t know the Swiss type food, then every time we asked something she make bad faces, when we went to paid was the same. It’s a shame the food is good but give a bad experience of Swiss customers service

Very rich and well located. Quick service for abundant clientele. Recommended to try the Swiss Rosti. They are the little pans that you will see on the menu.

In the very center of the city. Extensive menu of dishes although we have opted for typical Swiss dishes. A cheese foundu and a mixed roast meat. Everything exquisite. The price, for Switzerland, was not too expensive. It caught our attention that in the country of free water fountains, they will charge us for non-bottled water. I guess it's because of the service, but it hasn't happened to me before.

Please leave out the flavoring on the Rösti! Put it on the table and everyone can season it themselves! The rösti was great and the onion sauce was good but too salty due to the aroma. But I didn't have it sent back because otherwise it was great.

Where is the service? As a visitor from Germany, we wanted to try typical “Swiss cuisine”. The menu gave us great hope. Sat outside in lovely weather. Four more tables occupied, and another three tables in the restaurant itself. We waited and waited and waited. After what felt like 20 minutes we were thirsty and tired of it! No staff to be seen! None at all! Well, then we went one little house further to Papa Burrito. We were served promptly there. The food is of course not “typically Swiss”, but still absolutely delicious!

I came here to try some raclette. However, since we were in a group, we didn't have time to sprinkle cheese on each person, so we were served with cheese on the plate, which was quite disappointing.

Food way too expensive. Instead of egg spaetzle you simply get fried potatoes. Mushrooms are thrown into the sauce. This saves meat. 39 francs for 2 grated potatoes and 50g of veal slices. As a substitute, 200g mushrooms. !!!!!

Depending on the number of visitors, the service is overloaded and you have to expect waiting times. But we were served friendly every time. We made a special reservation outside, which didn't work out. We should sit somewhere where there is space. That's not what you want to hear when you're expecting a table that's set up. The food was always very good!

We ended up not even ordering the food because both waitresses were so rude and disrespectful that we stepped up and just left, awful awful service, one waitress even threw a basket of bread into the table without saying a word to us, like we weren’t even there, one of the worst experiences I’ve had in a restaurant

Excellent genuine Swiss food with one of the best Rösti nicely fried crispy. And they have EGGER BIER, a must try for any beer lover! Brewed in nearby Worb.

The terrible service, made us leave even before we tried the food, the two waitress were mean and disrespectful as we’d never seen before. Won’t be going back and the workers should be evaluated so other people don’t go trough the same shameful experience as we did.

Cheese fondue, the alcohol taste was too strong so I left half of it. I don't know if this is the case with this restaurant or the Swiss cheese fondue. I was able to eat two people's cheese fondue for one person, so it's not bad for the price. Other stores only had food for 2 people.

Good food was very good. Even very delicious. The staff are also very friendly. But unfortunately I had to ask for the bill several times.

The waitress with short hair was very unfriendly. My colleague talked to her about ordering drinks and he didn't know what to order yet. I would have liked to order something, but she walked away without even looking at me. The food arrived pretty cold. When my colleague wanted to order another drink, she nodded, but never showed up. The plates were only cleared away when we paid (without asking if it was good), which meant we had to wait forever. Once and never again.

The restaurant was full but the rösti we ordered was mediocre and expensive for what we got. We were expecting the rösti to be warmer but it arrived already kind of lukewarm. Beer was fine.

Lovely touristic place in the center, historical. Quite overpriced, serving traditional German meals, fondue, wines and beers. Great English speaking staff, indoor seating

Cozy interior and super nice staff. I ate the Easter menu (Gitzi), which was very good and the very tasty warm chocolate cake as dessert. We felt very comfortable.

Ordered cheese fondue and veggie Rosti which were so good. The place gets really busy so be prepared to wait. Despite that, the wait staff did a good job and were still cheerful and fast. Recommended!

We looked for a restaurant that made typical local dishes, in particular cheese fondue and rosti. While walking we saw this place and went in. The place is welcoming, the staff were friendly and it was very quick even though there were a lot of people. We liked cheese fondue and rosti.

We recently planned to dine at the restaurant, but after my bad experience with the service, we decided to leave the restaurant. I politely asked about the size of a portion I wanted to order, but the waitress rudely refused to help me. She told me to look at the pictures in the menu, even though they couldn't really help me understand the size of the portion. I kindly asked her to show me with her hands how big a portion was, but she became even more rude and suggested that I take a walk in the restaurant and look at other guests' tables. After I did not accept her suggestion to walk around, she complained about my question loudly (which is „impossible“ to answer) and left our table without saying anything else. I found the way the server treated me very unprofessional and disrespectful. I then decided to leave the restaurant without ordering or eating anything. It was disappointing that I didn't even have the chance to try the food, but the poor service prevented me from doing so.

We are a small networking club and meet once a month at Anker. This is our part of the tradition. The anchor fits exactly that. A simple, traditional cuisine. Always good, always well attended, the concept proves itself. If you're looking for haute cuisine, you've come to the wrong place. Anyone who likes home-style, honest Swiss cuisine will feel at home. It's great that companies like this still exist. 👍 Keep it up!

Nice place, attentive service, even a treat for my dog. The rostis with veal cream sauce with chanterelles was excellent.

Unfriendly staff (calling guests as a*sholes in the open kitchen etc.) Food was not good, no taste, no love, no quality. 2 salads, schnitzel and piccata for 100.- is absurd for what we got. (The schnitzel and the piccata were absolutely hideous, 1cm breading and tough meat) Not worth a visit.

My husband and I ordered from the lunch specials that were posted. Our waitress didn’t speak English, but we used our phones to figure out what each item was! My husband got the veal cutlet, and I had pasta with mushrooms. The special included cream of celery soup and a salad. Both of us enjoyed the soup and salad, and our entrees were delicious! It was a chilly day, but we enjoyed sitting outside and watching people’s reactions to the statue of the child-eating ogre right in front of the restaurant!
