Bäckerei Café Oberalp in Andermatt

We stopped by this place for a stop. We wanted a nice and classic hot chocolate but we found ourselves with a cup of hot milk and a sachet of cocoa powder... it's a shame because they make truly superlative chocolates and we were therefore expecting much more!!

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Staff was incredibly rude. It's a shame this place exists in such a wonderful town.

DON'T COME HERE PLEASE!!! Very unfriendly staff and poor quality of the pastry. I kindly asked for the Wifi password and they answered me very badly in German even though they knew that I did not speak the language. These people don't deserve to work in the Hospitality industry.

Service (older, dark-haired woman with tattoos) was overwhelmed and extremely unfriendly. The shortage of skilled workers must be huge if someone like that is let loose on guests.

The service destroys all the rest, I even regretted to pay for 4 cakes there after being treat badly there. The old lady doesn't speak English, and I don't know how to speak German properly so I tried to explain to her in English what I wanted and she threw on my face: Deutsch, not even bitte, not even a smile. Sorry lady, Andermatt is a international ski station so don't expect everyone speaks your language. If you don't like to see foreigners then leave, don't work there. And I hope when you go to other parts of Switzerland or other countries, they will treat you better.

I don't understand the negative comments. The service was perfect, the staff was cheerful and welcoming and.... the pastry shop was super good!! Approved!!

It's a shame that you don't adjust the opening times on Google... we could have saved ourselves the rush for the Epiphany cake...

Would you like some bad inattentive service? Do you love being spoken to in incomplete sentences and just get ignored due to incompetence? Right, this is your place to go! Went there to grab a coffee and have a quick breakfast. After being thoroughly ignored by the waitress, who was obviously unable to cope with more than two thoughts at a time, she slammed a ticket on the table while we just started eating. No thank you, never again.

Best Gulasch soup in Andermatt! Great place for a quick lunch!

Very nice and friendly service.

My children showed excitement when they entered the bakery as there was a large glass display case with chocolates inside. A staff member was quite rude telling them not to touch or open the case which they did not do anyways. We decided it is better to leave as we did not feel welcome.

Today I grabbed something from the counter as I drove past. I received friendly service and the baked goods were good and fresh. The prices are also reasonable.

Delicious food and drinks, the savory cheesecake is a dream, the Ziegerlkrapfen are a sweet version of goat cheese in dough that I didn't know before. Friendly and attentive service. The only thing that could be improved is the fact that you have to buy and pay for some dishes at the counter in the store and then have the drinks outside if you want to sit outside.

If you want good coffee, this isn't your place. I came here for a cup of coffee after a rainstorm and realized they don't really make the coffee. The pastries are pretty good, and the food is ok. The serving sizes are also questionable. (See image) Overall, it was an ok experience. I wouldn't suggest the coffee.

No wifi to start, coffee is bad from a auto machine; not a real coffee shop (no espresso machine), I got a hot chocolate, not real; from a powder and heated with water not even hot milk, it was bad and the portion was very small for the price. Only two stars because the bathroom was free.

Friendliness of service is hard to find. It's also strange that if you order coffee in a place that also has a bakery, you get a cookie vacuum-packed in plastic!?!?!!? I do not understand that. So that's why only 1 * Oh yes, cocoa powder on a cappuccino 🥴

Worst service I have received in my entire life

We took a hike from Göschenen to Andermatt and stopped at Cafe Oberalp. Not recommended at all, very unfriendly, arrogant staff, the cafe was just slammed on the table! Had to ask three times to pay, pastry wasn't fresh! This cafe/bakery wouldn't even get one star from me!!! Unfortunately you have to fill out a star😗 This cafe is dead for me!

Really irritating. Order something from the bakery to eat in the cafe but coffees have to be ordered from someone else. PLUS you have to pay separately as well! One we pay with card easily then the other is, "oh this is not helpful, do you not have cash?" 8,60Sfr for 2 coffees is wonderfully expensive and with cash, no real receipt left on the table. Nope. Quality was fine but service has taken its toll.

1 star rating is even too much for this place. Worst customer experience ever. The server must learn that customers nevet visit cafe to learn Swiss's payment system. When I tried to pay in advance, cause it is in some region conventional way, the old lady told us to 'sit and wait' with rude and unpleasant tone and manner. And then she started preaching us about Swiss payment culture as if it is THE ONLY RIGHT WAY TO BEHAVE. Please never visit this place if you want to have pleasant time with proper service attitude and respect.

Worst customer service, only visit if you want to experience RUDENESS and RACISM in Swiss. Old ladies (both behind the bakery and who are dealing the coffee) whose faces are very grumpy and ugly are so unfriendly & rude. They even try to teach a lesson to their customers haha. They talk back at you in German and make a laugh themselves. The most terrible experience I had in Swiss. They need to really learn customer service if they want to work in such 'touristic' village full of foreigner tourists.

Delicious truffle in milk chocolate, white, sprinkled with sugar, quite strange and very sweet. The dishes are dirty :(( The interior is really nice.

Had to take a call (lasted 20min or so) outside, came back and found out that my stuff got thrown away on the floor by the door…..and I haven’t finished my coffee. The restaurant was not busy at all and has a lot of empty space. No Wi-Fi as well and the owner is quite rude- “we are not a waiting room” If you are looking for a cafe to chill, this is not the place.

Position -Central and easily accessible -Stylish and clean interior -It pulls quite a bit because the door opens regularly, but the air locks don't work. Eat -There is neither a drinking menu nor a menu -System (get and pay for food at the counter, order drinks at the table) is inconvenient and not customer-friendly. -Sandwiches have more bread than content -Quality fine pastries service - Moderately complicated service at the counter.. -It is not possible to split an invoice. A lot of potential wasted...

Let’s start with the “more negative” points first and let’s end on a good note: If you want to eat on site, you have to order and pay for your drink at the table, but for the food you have to go to the counter and pay extra (In this interim between the counter and the table you have to leave your table "unattended" - Why "unattended"? because today's waitress sees exactly how other guests approach the table and says nothing, even though the actual customer is at the front of the counter ordering) For me, introducing a system like that in the first place just doesn't make any sense, no matter what happens to this table Oh, but I almost forgot the best part: the waitress didn't inform me that croissants were an exception to this special rule The employee behind the counter was very friendly, but unfortunately I can't say the same for the one who served. Above all, I can understand it very much when you're stressed that you can't find the time for small conversations - but a smile and a nice day can make a big difference, especially when you see that there's not much going on. I could list more but even then it would be too much. So what's good? The baked goods are 8/10 The bakery is clean It was nicely heated

Long Review Just returned from a 2 week trip around Europe including Switzerland and have been to many cafes/ restaurants in that time. This is the only place which we recieved bad service. Lady came over who offered table service and took the order. My partner gave his order and just as I was looking at the counter to show her know what I wanted she walked away. I understand there is a communication barrier but this was rude and we felt immediately like she did not want us there. I was left to then go to counter and purchase some pastries myself. At the end of our visit my partner went to pay for the food /drinks and was struggling with the card as the transaction would not go through. We found after leaving that the card had -€0.30 on than what the bill totalled. When I came over to see what was taking so long I was shocked to see the lady with her head in her hands looking quite frankly bored like she could not be bothered with the hassle. She then gave the job to one of the ladies behind the counter and vanished to which I was then easily able to sort the bill with a different card. The two ladies behind the counter were absolutely fine but the lady on table service was shocking and needs to work on her customer service. Please teach all staff manners when dealing with customers.

No service of baked goods (e.g. chocolate croissants) are not served. Normal croissont, however... 🤔 Order separately and pay at the counter... It's a shame in the charming cafe.

Unfortunately no. The service seems to be completely overwhelmed. Knowing that it was well attended, I get no excuse for the wait after 18', on the contrary. I'm still treated as rude after I was just trying to draw attention to myself. I can live with all of this without any problems, but not if 3 tables are served while I'm waiting, all of whom visited the coffee shop after me.

Unfortunately I have to agree with some of the other feedback, which is a shame. Until about 3 years ago it was a great café in Andermatt that we often visited. Now, unfriendliness and gossip predominate (incidentally not only about guests but also work colleagues in the front area and therefore audible to the guests - an absolute no-go in my opinion) - at least the dark and pithy rolls corresponded to a certain quality standard.

Prices ok but staff unfriendly, coffee and kitchen would have to be ordered separately..

RATING 4 - Only the location is beautiful. The personal problem seemed almost annoyed by our presence. Maybe because we spoke Italian. 4 coffees €12…not bad. ☕️💰

So I don't understand the negative review. We have already planned a special stop at the bakery for the second time. And like the first time, the welcome was very nice and friendly. It's unkind to say - unfortunately we didn't have any change for the parking machine and we kindly asked the saleswoman if she could please give us some coins. Since we would like to have coffee with them anyway. Of course she helped us out🤗 Thank you again at this point. We had the delicious cheesecake (be careful, hearty🤣) and were treated nicely by everyone. So we can only recommend it. Tip: "How you treat people usually comes back." So if you smile and be polite, it will come back. Like with us!! We'll be back 👍🤗

I strongly advise against it, terrible service, zero choice of tea or milk. We just seemed like we were in the way and annoying.

I ordered food but ordered it without a plate

Exceptionally well-kept café with a beautifully stocked bakery. Old style, but very modern with very comfortable and beautiful seats in the coffee shop and a really fantastic selection in the bakery's display, homemade pralines and other delicacies. In addition, there is really exemplary good service. Everyone is very friendly, accommodating, understanding and patient with tourists. The only negative: No private parking spaces, but there is also a nice terrace outside right on the street.

We stopped for some coffee, chocolate milk and a sweet. The quality was good, but what I liked most was the courtesy of the staff: the lady who served me spoke neither Italian nor English but she was very helpful and even let me taste one of their original chocolates .

The location is perfect. The products are also delicious and recommended! We all know that the Corona situation is not easy for all service providers throughout Switzerland. And yet it is no excuse for unfriendly service. lack of appreciation from customers... a shame!!

Unfortunately, this pastry shop is not recommended. We stopped by this bakery for coffee and cake on Sunday, July 5th, 2020. We actually thought that you would get homemade cake in a pastry shop. After the range was very clear, there were 2 strawberry slices and a pineapple cream "cake", we decided on one piece each. The strawberries were certainly no longer the freshest. The strawberries tasted overy and thawed, and the bottom was completely soggy. The taste of the pineapple cake was also reminiscent of a thawed cake. You can also buy the same cake on the shelf at Migros, just like the strawberry slices All in all, the visit was really a failure, especially since the lady behind the counter, where you had to get the cake yourself, was also quite unfriendly and didn't support her poor colleague who was in service in any way, even though she was very much too (except at the counter, where there wasn't really anything to buy anymore. It really surprises me that you can afford something like that in Andermatt.

The offer is excellent in terms of quality and quantity and inexpensive. The number of toilets is too small. The ambience suffers from the dark interior and the black parasols in the garden restaurant.

Nicely presented patisserie etc., what I was missing was a cozy coffee seating area to try one or the other.
