The bread and selection is very good. But you notice that the girls who work there have no service training and keep people waiting for a long time. Basic things like letting the coffee run and _while_ doing so_ making/preparing the rest instead of standing around stupidly in front of the coffee machine until it's ready are apparently not something you know about. I also like to take it easy on Sunday mornings, but the fact that it takes almost ten minutes to get there at two checkouts with 6-7 people in line is a bit sad.

Really recommended for breakfast. Great atmosphere and friendly service. The selection of baked goods was convincing. From the hearty bagel to the sweet Gipefli, there is everything your heart desires. The coffee was excellent. Gladly again!

I was only here for coffee, but I really enjoyed it and will come back again. Today everything was sold out. Self-service.

Enjoyed stopping by this café. Good selection of high quality pastries -- I had a pain au chocolate & almond. Very satisfied and paired well with tea. Trendy atmosphere with lots of seating. They have windows in the back where you can see the food being made. Will return!

A piece of regional Berlin in Grossbasel - the meeting place for stylish St. Johann “citizens”, woke moral people but also for a really good breakfast. The pastries taste great - good selection and some are “not quite bache”, i.e. not completely cooked through, like the Gilgen at Spalenberg, but not as sweet… The Kleinbasel in Grossbasel. Politically correct, diverse, but not as toxic as elsewhere. Really good.

More for hipsters. Expensive, slow service, always full (why?!) - but not really friendly either. Fortunately, there are other alternatives.

Great products, friendly staff. The atmosphere is also pleasant. Always worth a break. Only the thing with the used dishes on the tables works suboptimally. Often you have to clear a table first.

The coffee is great. Large selection of coffee from espresso to cappuccino. Ideal place for a great breakfast. If the weather is nice, definitely sit in the garden and enjoy the ambience. Food great

An absolutely darling bakery that was a part of our self guided food tour! Their "gold" cakes are unforgettable. Very sweet to pair with an espresso. They have displays so you can see the food being made. Very great experience

The baked goods I have bought there so far have all been very tasty and not just run of the mill... The prices are quite high, but the taste makes it worth it...

Good selection of pastries but very expensive! I also find the price difference between take-away and eating in the cafe of up to 1 Fr. very offensive. The taste is ok, but not outstanding. The cafe is decorated alternatively, but could be more comfortable.

The bread and products in general are overpriced. The cinnamon rolls, almost 4 Fr each, and the ones from the “Knack and Back” tin have a lot more filling, I even think the ones from the supermarket are better.

A nice place to have a coffee with a good cake/pastry We asked to warm the panau chocolate which made the panau chocolate pastry so delicious melted chocolate inside. Feel fresh. A lovely café place, we definitely will be back again and again

Loved the quiche, but not so much the vegetarian sandwich. I find it overpriced for the lack of consistency and limited ingredients. Other than this, not many other vegetarian options ..not to mention vegan.

Poorly served and haughty behavior towards non-German speaking customers. She even refuses to give me a coffee capsule to take home. Avoid !!

Unfortunately, the quality of the staff is getting worse and worse. The people who are starting out seem to have no motivation and are unfriendly. I go there almost every day to pick up a cappuccino and it always seems half-hearted. I am literally presented with a latte, without milk foam, as is the case with... Should be a cappuccino. I could also order something else. It's a shame, I always enjoyed being there, but now my visits are becoming fewer and fewer.

The Best! They found this bakery around 1726, you will smell, taste and feel the authenticity. One of my favorites after a nice river walk. This bakery can be expensive but believe me worth it! You can dine in or take away (can be cheaper).

Great products and a nice team are pushing long-established competitors out of the market. Unfortunately, so many people still appreciate it that the queue in front of the shop is sometimes inestimably long...

If the pastries are good, the staff should be good too! The staff don't care and don't give the impression that they want to sell anything. Every movement seems to tire her. People sweat in the bakery and sleep in the sales room! Change something!

Hands down one of the best bakeries in Basel. The Apfel-Streusel cake is to die for. And they have my favourite - pain aux raisins!

The other time I found the Sicilian Arancine but Wholemeal.....guys they weren't bad but please make the Arancine Original too

My sister introduced me to this place on my trip to Basel. I absolutely loved Basler gold and made to eat it to my hearts content before my trip ended. I liked Cinnamon bun, sandwiches and cappuccino too.

The goods in the bakery are mixed up, you can't find what you need, and customers are really getting in each other's way. The prices and product names are poorly written. THE sale is not well thought out.

I just knew this was going to be good. They did not disappoint me. The croissants were so delicious, I wolfed them down before I could take a picture. That explains the long lines. Worth the wait for sure.

Sadly disappointed with the bread I got from the bakery. The rolls were dry, dense and the crust was thick and hard. For the bread, it lacked flavour and it was too heavy. I moved to Basel a year ago and am still to find really good bakery here.

The best Beck in the city - at least in the St. Johann district. Fresh products every day, sweet or salty. In summer, the terrace in the courtyard is recommended, although it can get a bit hot. The service is always well placed and friendly. There are even various baking courses that you can sign up for.

Great Bakery for fresh pastry, Gipfeli, coffee and other things. I have tried quite a lot of their offerings and love the Almond Gipfeli. The place is located next to the tram stop and is easily accessible. The place is cozy and has good siting space. At the back of the bakery, there is a glass wall where you can see the artist at work baking fresh products. Only down side is the price, it's bit on expensive side even with Swiss standards.

Lovely relaxed environment, children looking at the kitchen team at work, people chatting and others quietly working away. The pastries were yummy and the coffee was decent. My friend and I shared a salad and a sandwich.

A very nice atmosphere. Quite a big offer and very tasty. Prices are a bit on the higher side in comparison with similar intiatives, but I hope it is reflected in the payment to the workers. All in all a very nice place to sit in.

Can't understand the hype about this bakery. Very hipstery, fancy pancy joint - bread and products are always a little too dry. If you want quality and taste besides tuning into the sustainability and eco friendly hype, just buy your croissants at any other bakery in Basel, which will be cheaper and tastier ;)

Basler Gold...that's a must try bakery item when you visit Basel. It's absolutely unique to this city and this is the only place which sells it (for much more than a century I suppose). I must say it's quite rich in taste and if you are someone with a sweet tooth, you'll get addicted to it. The bakery has a tram stop right outside so it's easily accessible too.

Quality great. Prices at the top end of the scale. Waiting times are often far too long in the morning because there are too few staff.

Unfriendly service - sat in the coffee shop at 6:56 a.m. (because the door was open) and was told not to do this again in the future... I didn't even order anything, just waited.

A lovely local bakery and café that serves good coffee too. There are lots of options if you’re hungry, including vegetarian options: sandwiches, quiches, soups, cakes and pastries. There are lots of seating options inside and there is also a small garden at the back.
