Backstube in Widnau

The brunch in the Widnau bakery is a real highlight! The selection of mini dishes such as sandwiches, canapes and sweet pastries is unique, but the baked goods are also excellent and available in a large selection. The friendly and courteous staff ensures that the buffet is always replenished more than regularly and always serves guests with a smile on their faces. The price for the high quality is great - and frankly, I can neither understand nor understand all the negative reviews. The bakery brunch is just as good as it was at the old location when I was a teenager, except that the new location is much nicer, brighter, more open and more inviting and therefore offers more space than before. Thank you for the delicious Easter brunch, which was my highlight this Easter! 🌟🥐🍳

I had a drink in the bakery on Saturday and Monday, great service! But today on Tuesday an arrogant and cheeky service! She said as the two of us sat down that next time it would be more expensive if we came and had dinner there . But we will never come back! An absolute disgrace!

I think it's a normal breakfast, nothing special. But what I have to say is! It's far too expensive (40 francs) and then you have to pay 2 francs if you have a coffee latte.

We dropped into the cafe before closing; the selection was excellent, both drinks and pastries. Everything is fresh and tasty. The cafe is large, but we managed to sit very comfortably in a corner.

The Backstube bakery impressed me with its excellent selection of fresh baked goods and excellent service. The diverse range of bread, rolls and sweet treats reflects the bakery's craftsmanship and quality standards. The staff is always friendly and competent, and the cozy atmosphere invites you to linger. An absolute highlight for connoisseurs of high-quality pastries - here baking tradition is lived out with attention to detail!

We went to the bakery for Sunday brunch. There are many different treats. The portion sizes in the form of small “bites” are ideal so that you can try your way through all the delicacies. The atmosphere is very modern and the staff is extremely friendly and fond of children. Thank you for the lovely Sunday morning.

We wanted to go to brunch first, unfortunately everything was fully booked (it's always best to make a reservation) but we were still able to sit down in the front part of the bakery. We were both impressed with the store/facility but most of all the service was the best we've had in years. She was attentive and even tried to stop us at brunch and then treated us to canapés and sweets. The cappuccino was recommended and reasonably priced. If I could I would give more than 5 stars for the service. We'd love to come back next time. But then with reservation 👍🏻.

We had 6 brunch vouchers that were issued over 6 years ago (without an expiration date). Unfortunately we hadn't redeemed these brunch vouchers yet. When we wanted to redeem them a short time ago, we were told that this was no longer possible. Of course we would have liked to pay a corresponding surcharge for inflation etc. But there was nothing we could do. I don't think that's accommodating and I'm disappointed; We've been avoiding the bakery since then, even though we always shopped and stopped in before, even at the old location.

Delicious breakfast! We had both the small and large breakfasts and they were out of this world with flavor! And our waitress was top notch! Nothing negative to say, highly recommend!

FROM THE BREAKFAST ONLY THE ORANGE JUICE AND THE OVAL TINE WAS GOOD, THE BUNS WERE NOT FRESH. SHE POURED OUT THE COFFEE CUP WHEN IT WAS SERVED AND THEN CLEANED THE CUP AND THE SAUCER WITH HER TABLE CLOTH, THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL. IT WAS THE FIRST AND LAST TIME.

I was there today at 4:40 p.m. The waitress told us she couldn't serve us anymore because they closed at 5:00 p.m. We left in our car at 4:46 p.m., during which time I could have easily eaten something. Other guests came at the same time as us and they were served and not sent away. Find it a little cheeky of her waitress. I won't leave my money in a store like this again. It doesn't mean that the customer is king.

I don't think the price/performance ratio for Sunday brunch is appropriate. No extras, no boiled eggs and only filter coffee without cappucino etc. only for an additional charge. Too expensive for me. But the quality is very good and the selection is ok. Design of the new location is very appealing.

A beautiful place to switch off for a while

A very nice and stylish place. We come here every now and then and treat ourselves to a snack on the bar stools right next to the counter. The snacks are very tasty. No matter whether sweet or salty. The ladies at the counter are always very nice and don't hesitate to bring the warm sandwich to you. We have also been here for breakfast and were not disappointed. PS: definitely try the Urdinkel croissant - the best croissant!!

I've often picked up fine things like croissants, cakes, sandwiches, etc. and I'm still thrilled with the quality and the price! The bakery brunch is also highly recommended! The atmosphere is clean and modern, the service in the cafe and in the shop is always very friendly and quick.

We had brunch with the family. Price-performance and, above all, the organization are not right for me. Elsewhere, special coffees or an individually prepared egg dish were also included for the price of CHF 40.00. Basically, most of the dishes were good, but some were also mediocre (e.g. scrambled eggs - like in a middle-class hotel). But what bothered me most was the poor organization. Although there would be enough space, there is only one “barrel street”. Due to the large seating capacity, this leads to long waiting times: we had to queue for around 20 minutes several times to even get to the buffet. This wasn't just the case in the first 30 minutes, but for almost the entire time slot. Plates the size of a children's plate are also provided. An unpleasant consequence of these circumstances: many people “hoard” and carry double-layered plates to the table. That's why the staff was hardly able to keep up with refills for the most popular products (e.g. small hamburgers), so that we were always missing them or had already run out when we were at the buffet. Just to get the normal coffee (no special request), we had to ask twice until it was finally brought. Conclusion: unfortunately the first and the last time.

Visit for brunch for two, Sunday morning, CHF 39.- per person (!!). Staff friendly and helpful. New restaurant looks great. Food for our needs is only 2 out of 5 stars. Reasons? e.g. Ham & Eggs: instead of fried bacon, leftover fried sausage was available (salami & co). That's a bit too much "sustainability" / life extension... modest selection of sausage, cheese, fruits - especially warm dishes. Tea, coffee, drinks "well". For this price, clearly behind the regional competition. We would like more regional/seasonal specialties. Better less, but significantly better quality. We probably simply don't fit the bakery's target group with our requirements. Also a realization.

I'm very pleased with the overall result! great coffee! extremely clean! very friendly staff! great shop! Euro 1:1 exemplary! Don't set everything up at 7 a.m. before brunch, not a single customer was sitting at a table during this time... PLEASE UPDATE THE ONLINE PRICE LIST!!!

The products and service are fine (4 stars), BUT it is too overpriced! Not just on site but also in the company where I work. There is a food vending machine with products from the bakery. It's sad that the rolls are getting smaller and the price stays the same.

Price performance not quite worth it. The brunch offer costs just under CHF 40.00. Meat and cheese platters nothing out of the ordinary. The warm dishes (small pizza and burgers) are very tasty. However, the buffet was not filled until the end. There were no more burgers over an hour before the end. This is a pity. The location is very nice and the staff is nice.

It's not just because of the super-friendly staff that I like coming here. At the For brunch they are unbeatable with the mini version. So you can fill your stomach and try everything. Really great!

It used to be better at the old location, but now the portions have become smaller and more expensive and no longer tasty, the service is very slow and not well organized. I would not recommend this cafe. But the café looks very nice, it has a nice interior.

We were there for brunch at your discretion. It was very tasty and the appetizers were plentiful, but nice and small, so you could really try out a lot. I would only have liked a little more vegetarian choice for the salty snacks, but otherwise it was perfect. And even though it was full, you never had the feeling that there were many people there. The noise level was also very pleasant.

For a cozy family visit, I stocked up on everything from classic clay rolls to Black Forest, strawberry and Baileys cakes. The quality impressed me and the friendly service ensures that I will come back again.

The staff was very friendly, the buffet offering was not outstanding. Very large selection of sandwiches and sweets but not much else. Everything looked nice but the price was pretty steep for filter coffee. There used to be a glass of champagne and really good coffee. Today you still have to pay for all of this. Will go back to Austria for brunch in the future.

My favorite place for Coffee & Mobile Work open office with USB with seat cushions and chillout. The size of the store and the interior are unique.

Otherwise you are thrilled with the bread, croissants and cakes from the bakery, at least when you take them home. Three of us registered for brunch today. Ridiculous selection, brown water disguised as coffee. Cappuccino etc. only for an additional charge. No matter what was on the buffet, we had to constantly ask whether butter, bread, etc. would finally be refilled. There are no soft-boiled eggs or toast at all. Nobody in the workforce seems to feel responsible for the buffet. We then had to pay SFr 119 for 3x breakfast buffet and 1x cappuccino. The space is modern and beautiful, but we didn't come here for the furnishings. A pity....

Brunch and coupes are highly recommended. Breads and baked goods are also very good. I find the interior very attractive and cozy.

The buffet has something to offer for every taste. From salty to sweet. The absolute madness is that everything comes in such a small format. So you can really try it out. Anyone who claims on July 30, 2022 that it wasn't refilled or there wasn't enough is telling a story. The plates were continually refilled until the end of the brunch. Thank you for the culinary journey through sweet and salty!

Beautiful ambience, spacious and clean! Unfortunately the quality of the breakfast is just mediocre: 1.Gipfeli: far from crispy and flaky, but soft like a veggie. 2.Brötli: The question is allowed...Is this baked goods that left the oven too early? Consistency soft and rubbery, no crispy crust, 3. The poor meat platter for Fr.5.80 is extremely poor with slices of cheese (Hello, are we in a cheap hotel in Germany?)! We reported our complaint to the friendly service employee. The reason for the pastry consistency is the humid climate😂 It's just a shame that other pastry shops can currently serve crispy pastries. All in all a disappointment. Thank you, we were there once!

Nice new location... Price for brunch unfortunately beyond good and evil... 39 Fr. and you have to pay for the Capucino yourself... Are you crazy? It's not the Hilton... Quality is no longer what it used to be... That's really a pity...

I think the selection has become smaller than before, but it was good. However, what stops me from enjoying brunch in the bakery again is the rude manner of the boss, who no longer accepted the two vouchers (with expired dates). That's not understandable to me, you've already paid. A little more accommodating would be more businesslike and customer friendly. T. Ulmann

Very successful interior design very friendly staff

Unfortunately, disappointing brunch, for just under Fr. 40.00 I expected a little more. There was 1 tray of pastries, 1 tray of canapes, 1 tray of cold cuts/cheese and then patisserie. (Of course also some jam, Nutella and butter). A selection of yogurt would also be nice and a little more variety in general. Egg dishes & bacon were unavailable for an hour and were never refilled. There are no boiled eggs, or even egg dishes to order, according to me, smoked salmon is missing for a brunch (only offered on ready-made canapés). Filter coffee and chocolate/Ovomaltine are included in the price, but you pay an extra charge for normal coffee or cappuccino etc. Otherwise, orange juice, multivitamin juice, apple juice and water were available (but standard drinks were pasteurized, no freshly prepared juices) Unfortunately, there were no forks or "scoops" at the buffet (except for cold cuts) with which patisserie, canapes or pastries could have been "scooped", everything was taken by hand, which our entire table found somewhat unhygienic. When asked, it was said that it was more hygienic than utensils that everyone touches... I would have thought that the concept would change after the renovation/move, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. . I don't want to complain about the quality of the food on offer - it was good as usual. Price/performance is certainly better in other places.

Grandiose, rich brunch buffet à discretion with many small delicacies from salty to sweet. At a price of CHF 39 per person, it is rather expensive, but you can enjoy an extensive brunch. I would like to visit again at any time :)

Update: the “new” bakery is Widnau well done. It is open, modern and simple. Even though all the tables were occupied, there was plenty of space and you didn't feel cramped. The treats are still amazing. Always happy. We were there for brunch on a Sunday. It was very tasty and there was a large selection of goodies. The room was full and a bit noisy but it's always worth coming back.

I've heard a lot of good things about Sunday brunch. Tried to make a reservation twice and was always fully booked. That's why my expectations were perhaps too high. The restaurant is very modern and beautiful. The staff friendly. I was disappointed with the buffet. 3 types of bread, various small appetizers, some dry scrambled eggs and fried ham. I would have expected more from a bakery.
