Bauschänzli in Zürich

Very expensive for a self service. A beer for over 8.-. The glass wasn't even filled properly. The team was overwhelmed.

Expensive but with the QR code service at the table they were very fast!

It has good location, great views and it gives a really nice vibe. Staff wasn’t that helpful though.

Great Oktoberfest experience in Zürich! Great food & Bier

went to with my work for orkoberfest, around I was at table 543 and one guy from another tried to fight one on us around 11 PM. 13.10.2023 you can see at camera, I tried to break the fight standing by the guy from the table beside trying to fight us and security kick me out, the guy who started the fight the let he go back in because he spoke German, I think he was Swiss or German but because I didnt speak German security kicked me out straight away. biased as hell. never going back as biased security, if you speak German you can do whatever you want, if you dont, kicked out.

I visited during Oktoberfest. I think Westerners can enjoy a nice atmosphere. However, it is not recommended for Asians. First of all, it is not easy to place an order. At first, we thought that because we are Asian, it was difficult for the waitress to communicate in English, so she did not respond well. As time passed and I looked at the situation, they just ignored me because I was Asian. No matter how much you talk to them, they don't look at you, they turn their heads and pass by, and they ignore you and say they are busy with hand gestures. On the other hand, they tend to respond promptly to English-speaking Westerners. Asians, just don't go. I feel ignored and all my good feelings about Switzerland disappear. I don't know what it's like normally.

I first visited here in 2013 (from Australia) and loved the environment, service and the food. A photo of my husband and I seated here has been my screensaver for the past 10 years! We visited again in August, 2023 and were extremely disappointed in the food and (lack of) service. When we arrived, no-one approached us. We wandered to a table and were confronted by a QR code. No-one approached us, we were not given a menu and there was no option to pay cash. When our meals arrived they were dumped onto the table (not even in front of us) without the server saying a word to us. I had the Cordon Bleu which reminded me of one out of the box from the supermarket freezer. They had also introduced payment to use the toilet - which I don't expect after dining at a restaurant. We visit family in Switzerland often but will not be coming back here.

Had lunch here spontaneously. You order with a QR code on your cell phone, the connection to the WiFi took a while but it worked out quite well. Unfortunately a tarte flambée was forgotten, but it was quickly brought when we noticed. Tarte flambée was ok but not the best I've ever had. It's very nice to sit in, the tables could be cleaned more often.

Awesome find in Zurich. Lovely place sit, sip beer and look out at the river. Good place for a meet up with friends as well. After sight seeing around Zurich this is an excellent place to end your day. Food is also available although we did not eat. We went there for the river and city views and the beer. The beer was crisp, fresh and very good. Plenty of beer options to choose from.

One of the nicest places to enjoy some food and drinks. Right on the lake. I didn't taste service because you use an app to order.

QR code with card on the tables does not work. Self-service soft drinks for €6 without glass, without ice etc. Totally over the top! Non-alcoholic beer is advertised with a sample bottle on display, but is still not available. Disappointing….

Wonderful location on the island. BUT: After several minutes on the floor, the cutlery that had fallen down was put back on the tray by the staff and brought to the guest. The prices are more salty than the fries. And the (dirty) toilets cost extra, unless you queue at the counter and ask for a special coin for the entrance barrier.

Good place for a (or two, or three) refreshing beer....

Actually a good idea, you can order at the table using a QR code and then have various payment options such as Twint. You order. Waits forever. We went after 45 minutes to ask why our food hadn't come yet. Then you say: "Yes, Twint doesn't work today." Are you serious? Why don't you write this anywhere? (Visa didn't work either, by the way) To another person who ordered a drink: "If you order something and it is no longer in stock, the order cannot be completed." Here too, please. Then you get your food and it's wrong. It wasn't good either. Clearly not recommended.

The Bauschänzli lives from its location. It's food. After ten minutes the food arrived, there was no drink anywhere, I was soon finished with my Hörndli with Gacktem (which were still cold) for 23.00 CHF and I still didn't have any drinks when I went to the bar to get our drinks myself , the four of them stood behind the counter bored, I then brought our prepared plateau to the table myself. If you want to get rid of money and don't expect anything, this is the right place.

Nice biergarten in the center of Zürich. Easy to order food and also fast service.

It would be great if the opening times were listed somewhere. Gate is open, no opening times visible, so paid parking fees then found out that they don't open until later

As always, very pleasant. You have peace and quiet and are treated to culinary delights. And the view of the Limmat with its beautiful city is always amazing!

Totally overpriced for tasteless food, tough meat and dirty table.

Without any effort they brought the worst cold coffee ever and showed no interest in complaining.

Nice meeting point and refreshment spot. Not cheap and the paid toilet is a nuisance not only for foreign guests. 2fr for the toilet is a lot, counting it towards consumption doesn't work in 9 out of 10 cases.

Wanted to order something self-service at 11:20 on a weekday. Statement from staff: we don't open until 11:30 The suggestion that the opening times be posted at the entrance was met with incomprehension and resulted in the suggestion that I could perhaps find out more information online. Some “specialized staff” without even the slightest knowledge of the local language the negative image. Digital ordering doesn't always work and doesn't really suit a beer garden. The once atmospheric restaurant has been converted into a faceless business under the current tenant.

Don’t be fooled by the views. Location is nice, that’s about it. Food is overrated and way too expensive. Service is confusing and not very helpful. You just pay for the location.

It's very easy to order, you sit down at the table, order and pay with your cell phone. Afterwards it is brought to the table and when you are finished you get up and go, ideally carrying your glasses and plates back yourself. Otherwise it makes a good impression. We've been there twice so far and it's always been a good fit.

Not really well organized behind the bar. For the prices you would expect more even in Zurich... Otherwise it's nice to enjoy the sun outside for a bit.

Ideal for beautiful summer days

Uncomplicated place for beer and sausages with pleasant friends.

CHF 16.00 for a HotDog, CHF 10.00 for 2 scoops of ice cream, 17.00 for a Negroni and 14.00 for an aperitif as self-service!! Fish from abroad. In addition, in 2023 there will only be 1 single vegetarian dish on the menu. Still questions? It's a shame for this great location, which belongs to the city and is unfortunately definitely rented to the wrong restaurant operator!!

Surrounded by water with great views, food is great and can be ordered by smartphone only. Add a quick or Long stop when visiting the city to relax.

Nice location with a good price-performance ratio. Especially for Zurich. In the back area there are nice lounge corners with a view of the old town.

It's the location of Bauschänzli that makes the experience, a biergarten on a disused fort on the Limmat river, in the heart of the city. The food is fine, but there are better options on the lake. Drinks are good and the table service option has returned, which is great.

Payment in advance including tip for service not provided, as only food and drinks are delivered to the table, which you ordered yourself online without advice. Tellertaxi only speaks English in Zurich? Zürcherschnetzeltes 42.00 francs... small portion, meat was good, sauce was too salty... Cheeseburger 32.00 francs and completely bland and tasteless... Bratwurst 15.00 francs was a bratwurst with mustard, you can't go wrong! Ambience, right on the water, couldn't be better, furnishings - well chairs and tables :-D

A summer bar like few on the Limmat

The Bauschänzli is always a nice place. Until a few years ago it was purely a self-service restaurant. Now there is a new, great ordering process: you can order food and drinks using a QR code and pay for them straight away. Everything is also brought to the tables. I like the concept because ordering is also easy. For example, I choose a sparkling white wine, then it goes on and I can choose between sour and sweet and that works with everything else too. Great! If you want, you can order your food and drinks at the counter and pick them up - as before. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The tables near the Limmat are in demand and are therefore always occupied, especially when the weather is nice.

The salad was very good, and also the potatoes were fine. A little bit expensive and the internet order didnt work in the beginning. However the place is pretty cool. The beer is also very good.

I give a good rating for the perfect location. Fast service, you order and pay via your iPhone! The perch fillets are ok but nothing more. Very nice atmosphere

I was more interested in the Bauschänzli, which I always enjoyed visiting. The selection has become very small but the prices have risen. Unfortunately, the fish kusperli and the fries were nothing special. Despite everything, the place was well attended.

Everything was good except for the service and food. Beer garden? Too little beer selection. Perch nuts? Oil was definitely too old and fries were very soft.

A bit of a tourist spot but OK for a beer every now and then. The service was nice but very, very slow. The food was cold. And unfortunately not everything that was ordered electronically was delivered. That's an absolute no-go!

Nice place to stay on hot days. Unfortunately there are too few staff who don't understand you, the music is too loud which makes it even more difficult to have a conversation when ordering. The whole organizational aspect of cooking is totally inconsistent and chaotic. Salad is prepared with bare hands instead of gloves. The current ordering system via app is too impersonal for me and takes too long. My food was lukewarm despite warming it up twice. Toilets unhygienic. A disappointment for me, the Bauschänzli was much nicer and quicker 5-7 years ago.

We were there on July 17, 23. The food was rather unspectacular, the sausage/cheese salad had too much sauce. The "Tuscany" tarte flambée didn't have enough crème fraîche, it didn't come to the table hot and the cutlery for cutting the raw ham was also missing. After asking twice, we got the cutlery ourselves at the counter. The service seems a bit distant/disinterested.

Perfect location for an afterworkdrink

It couldn't be worse. The tarte flambée was very dry and cold. The burger was loveless with 1 liter of BBQ sauce that was bad. We've never had such a bad meal in Zurich.

The new(ish) iteration of Zurich’s nicest “Biergarten” is a disaster. What a shame. To call this once charming spot a Beer Garden shows clearly that the current management has never been in a beer garden. Let’s not even talk about the prices or the quality.

Worst place I have ever ate at! Do not go here… even in your worst dreams….Don’t go here! I ordered the Chicken skewers…. Rubber Chicken much? Tasted raw!Now the thing is NO menus? What restaurant Owner would ever have no menus? Flam?(a deception or trick) credit from Google.cold and we were told it was supposed to be cold???? To the owner of this restaurant, STOP! You are doin a disservice to the industry.

After paying the drinks and food. More than half an hour to get the food and drinks never arrive, due the app system the waiters never paid attention to our complain and just leave when we mention the problem. Food was ok nothing special but not bad. Music loud so all people just yell to talk and it's not nice.

We waited for almost 2 hours complaining about our order. We never received it and we asked for a refund. There were a lot of people that wanted a refund for all sorts of stuff. Some people just left. It took another 30 minutes to get a refund. The staff was not friendly at all. And the place has a nice location but it was too full.(from people waiting a lot for their orders) Overall a bad experience Do not recommend !

We waited 45min for our drinks. And when we asked why it took so long, the waiter was responding really rude that we should not complain as he was doing his best, go to my boss etc 🤷‍♂️

I had to order in English, which was unacceptable for me as a Zurich resident. I found the behavior of the staff to be unfriendly. It almost seems as if the catering at the Buschänzli is doing too well.

The ambience was very good just because of the good location. However, if it is very crowded, it can get very loud. To order, there is a self-service system with which you can scan the QR code using your cell phone and order food and drinks from the displayed menu. The order then arrives quite quickly after about 15 minutes. However, the quality of the food for a fairly high price leaves a lot to be desired. We had a finger food platter that served very greasy and cheap food, very simple fries, small fried sausages and small breaded fish fillets with ketchup, mustard and barbecue sauce. It wasn't much and was enough for 2 people (around 60 CHF). Here it is better to have a drink together rather than eat.

Unfortunately we didn't get any coffee because the online menu isn't working at the moment. The ice cream was fine.

A restaurant that takes a call but immediately hangs up doesn't deserve more than one star - it probably doesn't matter much, because thanks to the location, the customers come either way 😉

The Bauschänzli impresses with its ordering concept via a web app. This makes it possible to receive service relatively quickly without having to wait in long queues. The selection of food is a bit limited, but ok for a beer garden.

Waited an hour for drinks. We asked the staff twice, but were told it would just take time. The third time it turned out that one item in our order was no longer available and therefore the entire order was not processed. Nobody had informed us. Very bad service.

Absolutely unfriendly staff and completely overpriced. After I ate fish crispy I had to go to an emergency because they were full of fish bones - when we asked if we could take the food away with us, they said, no, they don't have anything like that, the burger we ordered and paid for was never given to us handed out... what a disgrace!! never again...

Very pleasant setting for a drink. But don't go there to eat: we ordered 2 identical salads, only one arrived. We asked 3 different waiters (jaded) and it was only after asking the boss that the second one arrived 20 minutes later. The tables around us also seemed to have the same problem. Unacceptable when you charge 5 euros for the service.

Nice beer garden and location, ordering at table was good. Cracked glass and also let down by needing to pay for toilet and getting ignored at bar for change required. Shame.
