Beef in Bern

It was my birthday yesterday (March 16th) and my son invited me to this extraordinary restaurant. I'm thrilled and will come back!

Very good quality meats, but the bill per person is still quite high.

Food top...service great...gladly again

We went to this restaurant for dinner during our stay in Bern. Quality food but poor and slow service. The quantity of meat served was chosen by the restaurant staff, different from what was written on the paper and we had to request the sauce for the chips several times which arrived practically when we finished eating. In conclusion, good experience for the food, but the rest lacks a bit of refinement.

There's not much to say here except TOP in all respects..! Best meat quality, perfectly and precisely prepared, paired with a pleasant atmosphere and very attentive and super-friendly service - it couldn't be better... Bravo!

A classic stakehouse Unfortunately the food had lost its bite The Dinosaur Ribs were so tasty and tender, but the last few times they were 60% fat. Price is in the upper segment, and the bar is great for watching football or hockey.

The five of us had dinner at Beef for the first time. The tuna starter, bison main course and crème brulé dessert were absolutely fantastic. The meat was perfectly cooked and extremely tender, and one can only praise the chef. The service was helpful, hospitable and absolutely professional. I can really recommend this restaurant in Bern!

The Beef Steakhouse in Bern offers an outstanding culinary experience that will delight meat lovers. The juicy steaks are expertly prepared, tender and full of flavor. Actually everything is very good, but: The pulled beef burger only had around 60 grams of meat, which is definitely not much for the price of 34.-.

We had a very nice dinner. Attentive, nice waiters and very delicious food. Meet of the best quality. We will come eat there again for sure.

Cozy and quiet ambience with a touch of classic. The food took a bit of a long time to arrive, But the food tasted very good. The service was always friendly and courteous. Was always too busy and came to the table often.

It was okay...unfortunately there was a smell of sewage in the front area (the operators can't help it, it's because of the old pipes), but we were allowed to move around, which was nice. Unfortunately it was very warm in the back area. We're not feeling particularly well after eating today, but that may be due to the unusual amount of meat. Service was very friendly 👍🏻

It's a very nice atmosphere...there were two of us there and both were thrilled...great meat and side dish...for a fair price (price/quality)...and the service was young and cool👍...again and again! lg

Those who had steak, said it was delicious, but expensive. I ordered Black Tiger Prawns with French fries and slaw. I got 3 small shrimp, good fries, and bland slaw for $35. The meal took almost 2 hours due to the extended time they took between every part of the meal.

As a regular of the place I found the service to be long, the dishes ordered were not those served, we accepted them and could not wait another 45 minutes, disorganized service at the bistro, room service is very professional

In the beautiful center of Old Town Bern we have chosen an unknown restaurant for ourselves. The restaurant had a beautiful terrace, the friendly staff made room for our stroller and gave a good recommendation... Dishes were wonderfully delicious for the eyes and also for the tongue, a culinary experience, thank you and keep it up.

Mega expensive but also mega professional, nice service and really top quality meat and other dishes. A bit too stuffy and too chic for young people. for a steakhouse. Clever ploy to lure customers into the bar before dinner because “they are still preparing the tables”. Eating there once a year is definitely ok, as long as you can afford it.

An amazing experience here at The Beef. This is a fine dining experience that you should try. You will not regret it.

The food was fantastic. The meat doesn't get any better than this. The prices are high but you also pay for quality. The service was very friendly and attentive. We were there for the second time and will definitely come back as soon as we move to Bern.

During a stay in the city of Bern, we took the opportunity to eat in the evening in this restaurant. It was also an opportunity to celebrate a birthday. First of all, the place is really well located in a historic part of the city. The place itself is particularly warm. Don’t hesitate to ask for a table on the first floor if the layout is worth it. The table was beautifully presented and featured festive decorations as well as a handwritten card with a nice little note for their birthday person. The service is really good. The people who took care of us were very attentive. The menu and the dishes on it were presented to us, which helped us narrow down our choice. The presentation of the plates was also a real plus because the colors and arrangements made it possible to highlight the dishes. The ingredients that made them up were simply impeccable. Everything was of very good quality and tasted excellent. Very good address, faultless and highly recommended!

Great steakhouse in the heart of Bern. The prices are slightly higher than average, but the quality of the cuisine is top notch! I recommend trying the bison steak and, as a side dish, a green salad with caramelized walnuts!

Pleasant atmosphere, very kind staff, but the prices are VERY high, I can even say exaggerated... The steak in the first photo €66????!!! The wife ordered Dinosaur Rips and more than half of the portion was fat that could not be eaten! The burger in the second picture €34…..Nothing special…. The prices are not reflected in the quality of the dishes!

Had a dinner at this place during the visit to Bern. The food is expensive, which is still ok if value for the money is present. For us: 300gr stake looked way smaller as we used to have in the croton restaurant in Germany, Beef salad didn’t contain any single piece of beef and 2 pairs of guests, who arrived after us an12small 2 persons tables were offered to move to bigger * 4 people to have some space for plates, though they arrived after us. We were never offered. If I pay 132 euro for dinner with no alcohol and no meat for one of two people, I would expect different service.

My boyfriend & I went to The Beef for a cozy dinner for the first time today and we both really enjoyed it! The service: We were served by David who served us very friendly and professionally! He was also able to give us great advice! The food: as a starter the garlic soup & the beef salad & the main course the tomahawk steak with fries, all the dishes were really very tasty & you could tell the good quality & the loving preparation of the food! The price-performance ratio is perfect💫 thank you for the great evening! We'll definitely be back!

Extraordinary meat cooked like this.

Were there as a family. Even though there is nothing special for younger children, the staff was flexible enough to adapt a dish so that the junior could also enjoy it. What really bothers me about the restaurant is the price-performance ratio. I don't have a problem with the fact that it's more expensive than other restaurants (although not really by much). Where my problem begins (and ends) is the quality of the dish. We had 3 - according to the menu - high-priced meat dishes...I wasn't impressed by the meat. It was the kind that I wouldn't order again. It's difficult for me to say whether this is the new "style" of how the restaurant is run...I've been there several times and each time it was a little worse. We will definitely come by again...maybe for the last time! But I would like to be surprised.

After yesterday evening I unfortunately have to think twice about going to the restaurant. The service was exceptional...unprofessional. How can you tell us guests with a big smile that the kitchen has already prepared the main course, but forgot the starter. Ultimately the mistake is corrected (or so you can only think) and the meat is served... to several guests at the wrong level of doneness. In the end I had to eat alone because the others had already finished. People smoke in the toilet and to my surprise the waitress is very personal, clearly not cigarettes but man...IQos stinks even in locked rooms. So our evening meal ended with a 500 CHF bill that we had to split independently and -30 francs in compensation for the restaurant's laissez-faire attitude.

What a great experience! From the ambience, to the service, to the bread, simply top! The BEEF has a great selection of different meats and the waitresses and waiters are happy to explain the advantages and disadvantages of the different cuts. The meat simply tastes great! The Irish entrecôte had a great smoky note and was extremely tender. The waitress didn't waste a drop of jus and it was just a huge pleasure to soak up every drop with the delicious seed bread. The beautiful presentation of the meat and the dignified ambience make a visit to The BEEF Steakhouse a very special experience! We were there during Canadian Week and had the corn soup with popcorn as a starter (special), which was unusual and extremely tasty. The side dishes were also very tasty, the mac & cheese was creamy and the sweet sweet potato cream was the perfect balance to the tart, delicious meat. Next time I would order two side dishes per person, as the side dishes are rather small. The crowning finale of the evening was a super delicious cheesecake with caramel sauce. I have never tasted caramel sauce that was so delicious and, above all, not artificial. Just lovely! The service was always very friendly. I can recommend a visit to the restaurant to everyone! PS: The lower floor is wheelchair accessible and yes there is a vegetarian alternative.

Super good food in the heart of Bern. Service good, but could be improved (last time we had to wait almost 70 minutes for food). Otherwise wonderful restaurant.

First and foremost, walking into the restaurant there were 6 people crowded around the front door smoking. Ya, I know it’s a huge problem in Switzerland. I live here and still can’t believe people don’t realize smoking kills you and those around you, pretty dumb…but a business doing nothing to push people a couple of meters from your entrance with a sign or recommendation sets a poor entry impression for patrons that don’t smoke. I almost didn’t walk in. Upon walking in, we were not greeted to be seated for several minutes, left wondering if we needed to do more. Our server was very personable and accepted that we had some food intolerances and said he would note this to the kitchen. The caesar salad, for 17 francs was very small, maybe 25 g of bacon and a few grams of parmesean. There was not much flavour, needed more lemon and anchovie, in my opinion, but the romaine was fresh and crispy, just wish there were a few more leaves to crunch on. Wish they brought us a salt and pepper grinder and had to reach to the next table over, service could have been a little more thorough. The biggest problem I had was that although I declared that I am diabetic and cannot eat any sugar (I am very strict low carb), my bison steak arrived on a plate with a sweet jus all around it and on parts of it. The eventual solution was to exchange the plate only, which I accepted because we had waited near 30 minutes for the steak in the first place then it took about 5 minutes for us to get a server’s attention to address the matter and then another 6-7 minutes to exchange the plate, meanwhile, my son was eating his filet (ordered medium, delivered rare). By the time my steak arrived back, my bernaise was cold and thickened and my green beans were also cold. At first, I let this all go because I didn’t want to cause a scene because I was having a nice one-on-one time with my son, but now, the next day I am much more annoyed and considering returning to complain more emphatically in person. Even as I write this review, I have downgraded the stars from 3 to 1. I felt the restaurant is trying to be high end, but it missed the target with me and I will not be able to recommend it or return for another meal.

Everything is just right here! "Best beef in town" and friendly service. The steakhouse with chandeliers, dark paneling and beautiful stucco on the vaulted ceiling is second to none.

1st floor: very nice dining room, very friendly, competent staff, excellent food, unfortunately quite expensive, price/performance ratio is right.

The service was very nice, but unfortunately the price/performance ratio is quite excessive. And when you then offer a competition on a wheel of fortune in which I would have actually won a 200 CHF voucher, the bartender comes out from behind the counter and claims it is More like a 50 CHF voucher, which was simply not true. I find this gentleman to be very cheeky on the one hand and very weak on the other. We ended up eating an expensive dinner that evening. Maybe the company should reconsider the integrity of the gentleman with the special mustache... Because I think it was anything but fair and customer-oriented, when you charge prices like that, the performance of the staff counts even more.

The place was cozy and warm. Food was good but portion bit small for me. The servers are overwhelmed. It took few minutes before they can attend to us. Food was OK nothing so special. Bread was standard. They give CHF10 voucher for the next visit and free sauce.

We had dinner on a Saturday lunchtime. We were served quickly and the staff was kind enough to take the time to speak in French (even though I also speak German). The meal was good, well served, just perhaps a little heavy to digest. M The atmosphere and setting are nice, it was a great discovery.

We had brunch here a while back and it was delicious. The family was here from the States so we were a big group with two small children and the service was excellent. She was very patient and accommodating.

The food was excellent, but the service was poor: long waiting times (they apologized early on, but we still had to wait a long time), getting dishes hit on the head while clearing, dropping cutlery on my jacket, meat and fries not being served together , cutlery touched everywhere and no goodbye at the end. It's a shame because the ribs were really good...

Beautiful restaurant, very nice and professional staff. The food is excellent, although at high prices, which is okay given the quality. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time for the main course, which should be even better. Otherwise it deserves 5 stars.

The food and service was awesome!

Nice atmosphere, friendly and attentive service. I found the burger to be rather “solid” for my taste, not particularly special, but still good. Maybe it could be a little juicier and spicier. Points are definitely deducted for the prices, which I think are very steep and at the highest limit for a burger with salad (CHF. 34.-) Otherwise it worked out well for us.

Food and service so-so; we won't repeat it...

Today was the first time at The Beef and definitely not the last time! The food is a dream for anyone who loves very good quality meat. For me the service was perfect, compliments! Unfortunately, there aren't that many restaurants left where you can experience dignified, perfect service, but here there is! Thank you very much!

Beautiful terrace in old Bern, pleasant. Unfortunately the quality is not there (by far) and the prices are more than overrated. The piece of Irish steak was a piece of nerves and the requested cooking was not respected (pink/rare instead of medium). The accompaniments are dry and seem to have been prepared too far in advance. The service is a Bernese service, so straightforward and without formality.

Service was good, but the meat was not as I expected.

We visited the beef steakhouse when the all you can eat offer was active and they allowed us to have multiple rounds of dinosaur ribs , salad and French fries at the price of 28chf and until now it’s all good. Unfortunately they had multiple orders at the same time resulting in a lack of available servings and in long wait times. That meant that the planning for the all you can eat day wasn’t on point. Anyways , the owner (I think) came and apologized multiple times and offered us a free round of beers and that has been really appreciated. About the food, of course, being all you can eat I didn’t expect the best meat cut but it was a bit too fat. Also the cuts differed hugely in size and fat quantity. Overall , anyways, it wasn’t bad. French fries were on point and on request they bring us sauces. Honestly it wasn’t a particularly good experience but I believe that we just found ourselves there at the worst time and that’s why I give 4 stars. If I will ever come back to Bern I would definitely give it a second chance.

Super pleasant staff, delicious meat and beautiful location

We shared the Swiss dry aged sirloin beef steak of 200 grams with grilled vegetables and bernaise sauce and the beef carapaccio between 2 people, paired with some merlot. The steak was cooked to perfection and flavored just right. The Irish beef carapaccio with celery truffle cream was the ideal summer starter.

First address for meat... Service is quick, competent, uncomplicated and good. See you next time.

...the meat was rubbery and bland, we ordered sauce with it, but never received it. Salad was fine, you can hardly go wrong with it as long as the ingredients are fresh. So I saw it there...that's it.

I ordered all 3 burger menus as take away. No.1 The pulled beef burger was excellent, just what you would expect from a pulled beef. But the other 2 burgers were bad. No.2 The Wagyu Burger had no sauce and minimal cheese that you couldn't even taste it, even though it was a Bernese Küssli. In addition, some of the meat was so burnt that it was bitter and dry. This burger with fries was 42 francs, which is completely exaggerated considering the minimalist portion of fries. #3 The cheese burger was not balanced at all, the raclette cheese was way too bitter for the chipotle sauce, which was too sour. It generally had a strange taste. But what disappointed me the most was the amount of fries they gave us. I ordered a portion of pulled beef fries as an addition, but I have never seen such a small portion of fries for this price. That's just a disgrace, I spent a total of 119 francs for the 3 burger menus and an additional portion of pulled beef fries. Which, in my opinion, is far too expensive. This is the first and last time I eat at Beef.
