The Butcher in Bern

We were expecting good Swiss meat in the Burgers... unfortunately the taste and texture were not there... an impression of frozen meat from Migros... I don't have one for my 35.- The Burger 😅. Despite everything, nice decor!

The burger has two tiny pieces of lettuce and the meat is very thin. It is not as it appears in the photos.

I had eaten at a Butcher before. But it seems the portions are getting smaller and worse. Additionally, several other customers were asked about our orders before us. We couldn't even order drinks early. The ambience has diminished. It's kind of shabby and no longer shabby chic

The worst burger I've had. Tasted like nothing. I ordered the Mary, and the patty was dry, the bread was stale, and it was way too overpriced. Could have easily made a better one at home. On top of this, I came here with a group of five people and the ordering system did not work at all. Wouldn't recommend.

The visit was worth it and the service was very friendly and personable. However, for around 30.00, I simply expected more in the taste of the burger. I could barely taste certain components and the overall size of the burger was just enough. A little cheaper or bigger burger, with more flavor (be it more sauce or a better seasoned patty) and everything would be perfect.

Were always big fans of the Butcher. “Unfortunately” something has changed and that always has good and bad sides. The delicious “favorite sauce” is gone, but there is a larger and more diverse selection of sauces. You have more choice when it comes to burgers and can put them together as you wish. Overall conclusion is still a good store but something is missing..

The staff is courteous and quick, the food is, well, probably more for the younger generation. If you like hamburgers, then it's perfect. The fries were soggy and not freshly made.

They got the order wrong which leaded to the vegetarian burger having chicken in it.. quite expensive for what you get with the beefburgers aswell. Good atmosphere tough

Really cozy place, good service, staff was professional and kids-friendly. Very cool ordering system from your phone. Great range of gluten-free options. Something to improve would be the ability to specify cooking level from the app (our patties were too cooked four our liking).

In general the food is good although the burger meat is not very good. The ordering and paying service is great. The place is very beautiful. I would have really liked them to ask the point of the meat.

The first and last time there. Never had such a bad burger. If this even deserves the name. Dry, no taste, a shame. But apparently people like this. Enjoy yourself.

In the 2 years of our son's life, we have never experienced such open hatred of children: our son dared to break two individual eucalyptus branches that were approximately 15cm long. Just as we were eating, a young lady shouted at us in the worst possible way that we had destroyed “her” 15 franc organic decoration. We had completely lost our appetite. Our request to include these items on the invoice was not complied with. So it was just a matter of making us feel thoroughly how unwanted we were.

I took a vegan chicken burger, it was good, but a burger for 19.- is too expensive. The fries weren't good.

Something has been missing from the delivery at least twice now. This is despite the fact that the important points are specifically marked in bright pink on the piece of paper. Without vouchers the price/performance ratio is hardly right.

The longer the worse - that's how you can sum it up. I can only rate the food (delivery), so I give the service and the ambience 5 stars. But the food - fries are quite cold and especially the portions - if you order the same fries - the portions are different sizes. Burger OK, but I would have expected more for this price. It's a shame that the ketchup that came with it has already expired for 2 months - so I'm wondering if the rest is fresh. Conclusion: There are certainly better things in Bern!

The food was good. We got 3dl instead of 4dl iced tea as ordered. We were there the first time and were not instructed in the concept. The service was banal, they didn't seem motivated. You had to get your own cutlery. No contact with staff except when they brought food/drinks. Ambience was ok.

Great spot for a burger. The gluten free bun was covered in sesame seeds and one of the better gluten free buns I’ve had. It isn’t on the online menu unless you build your own burger but you can ask to have it with any of their burgers.

The price-performance ratio is not right. The citizen was too small for the price. The Halumi fries are far too little for the price. And for a total of 45chf I wasn't even full in the end

The cheapest burger for 16.- was an absolute disappointment, never again please! Thank you

Update February 2024: I went back to the Butcher and: had a delicious dinner - the quality of food was delicious, the size of the burger well worth the money, the meat perfectly cooked, the sides (Haloumi fries and cheesy spicy fries were very tasty. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The instructions about how to order and pay were very clear this time. The prices for the food are not the cheapest - but this time my overall experience was well worth the money! Therefore i have changed my ratings from bad to very good. I will be back! Update September 28: After the owners of Butcher got back to me we had a very good exchange about my customer experience that day. They were open to my feedback and I was able to give them my recommendations on how to improve the customer experience. I am a more happy customer again and will definitely go back. @Butcher team: thanks for listening! *** What a disappointment! I used to be a frequent customer at the butcher - the burgers, fries were always good, always a bit on the more expensive side for burgers, but still okay. When i was there today - a long waiting time to even get a table (the place was not crowded at all). Now you have to order your food via QR-code and on your smartphone (also for dine-in). Once the order was sent out, no one came up to serve the drinks - we had to ask if the order even had arrived in the kitchen. We ordered the Chef‘s Special Burger for CHF 35.- and we were expecting a similar burger like they show on the Website. After a while the burger arrived and it was a huge disappointment: it looked like a regular butcher burger, nothing special at all with maybe one more pepper and jalapeño. It was definitely a „what you see is not what you get“ ! The service was with the exception of bringing the burgers out simply nonexistent. Also the checkoutwas a hassle, had to try with 3 different payment methods before the payment was accepted. We could have walked out without even paying because no one was paying attention anyway. I won‘t visit the new Butcher again in the near future.

Strange Service Tasteless Burger

Cool burger spot in Bern. The burgers were tasty, the chili cheese fries were great, and the mango desert was amazing.

The food is expensive but ok. The online presence, on the other hand, is a complete disaster. You will soon need a degree to order. If you would like a delivery, you should order from eat.ch or FoodNow instead of directly from the restaurant. It probably also protects better against delivery becoming a take-away order.

Ate there probably 7 times and have never been disappointed so far. The halloumi fries with pomegranate were better than the current ones but that's a matter of taste. The burgers are fantastic every time. It's difficult to evaluate the service because you don't have much to do with the operation. You like it or you don't like it, just like electronic ordering. I think it's great to quickly order a drink on your cell phone instead of raising your arm and shouting across the entire restaurant for the service staff. Always my pleasure.

As a passionate foodie in Bern and the surrounding area, I had the pleasure of tasting a burger menu from The Butchers with my team today and I am speechless with excitement! No joke ! Nico's team was very warm, attentive and the menus came very quickly. Every bite was a heavenly symphony of juicy meat, perfectly melted cheese and fresh, crunchy ingredients. Not only was the food delicious, it was a revelation to my taste buds! The Butchers managed to not just serve a burger, but create a culinary masterpiece that made my taste buds dance with joy. Burger was very tasty! Brioche bun was fresh, vegetables and the composition of the sauce was A1. The meat patty was very juicy and tasty. Conclusion: We would love to come back again. Many thanks to Isabela for the perfect service.

Unfortunately very disappointed with this “restaurant”. The waitress doesn't serve, just brings the food. Left in the entrance. Unfortunately, the burgers are a complete disaster. The meat, which apparently should be very good meat, tastes like it's moldy. For this price, a lot more is promised in the burger and in the end you just get meat and bread. Hardly edible. The cheese fries were also really bad. Sloppy and simply sprinkled with paprika. Not recommended to anyone.

A pity... ...I don't like the feeling of being lied to as a customer... Regarding the meat, the boss assured us three times that it was organic meat. However, it is not organic meat!!! (I checked with the headquarters in Zurich) The vegetable burger was fine, the bun was of poor quality for this price. Apart from that, the service was pleasant.

Frankly we were very disappointed, we were a group of two families, 4 adults and 4 children aged 8 to 15, and life was unanimous: really meh, and not worth the price. The service is completely poor, you absolutely have to manage alone on the tablet application and with 8 people it's a real job which takes over the convivial moment of discussion. And of course they serve the adults first, and the children wait... We also had to stop the waiter so that he didn't serve the coffees at the same time as the burgers! Concerning the cuisine: the burgers were far from the best we ate, the bread not great, the steak overcooked even though we had asked for "bleu"), and all this for a price that was much too expensive because with burger + fries + drinks the bill was 300,- The setting: cold like in a butcher's shop, without soul. The back room doesn't even have a window. I really like good burgers, but unfortunately I can't recommend this place.

Everything is automated and it's not even good, in short it's not a real restaurant.

We were very disappointed and remembered it completely differently... the fries tasted terrible (old oil? fried too long...) the meat in the burger was good... the rest... well... buns seemed to be a CF product....2 burgers with ketchup and 1x jalapenos (no cheese...no other additives) and 2x fries with 3x cola zero for almost 60 francs!!definitely too much for too little quality...service was good. Restaurant is getting old and looks dingy... Unfortunately we won't be coming back...

Went to the Butcher on Sunday January 7th because the service people were too lazy to serve us at the back. They wanted us to sit at the front and asked if we had a reservation, but it wasn't! Afterwards we went out, I said: "Customer is king" and the cheeky guy said "yes, yes" in good German, lick me! take it!!! dirty shop, no wonder it was so empty, apparently food isn't much of a thing anymore either it used to be!

Burgers could be good (recipe, components) but were not well prepared. The quality of the meat is better than in the golden seagull. The chilli cheese frises were very bad. It was just a mess and had hardly any taste. The coleslaw salad was good, but could use a better dressing. Service was friendly and quick. Food was delivered quickly. Not recommended at all as a place to go out - it's fast food.

The burger was cold and accompanied by cold fries, everything was served on a plate hotter than the dish. The price is too expensive for the quality and quantity of food. Less good burger eaten!! Do not recommend this restaurant if you want to eat a good beef burger

We ordered our meal on the electronic terminals and we made a mistake and ordered takeaway instead of eating in. following this error we had to eat our meal outside with our 2 year old son. Too bad to give so much power to a machine that replaces human common sense. A little flexibility on the part of the establishment would be welcome. We were deeply disappointed because we offered to pay the difference and were refused. For sure we won't come back!

A very nice shop for burgers. It is located in the city center at a distance of 2 minutes from the Christmas market. The staff very friendly and happy to serve you, they informed us that we order online and the menu was with a qr code. You are an excellent offer for Swiss standards 1 burger of your choice fries and a soft drink or something like tea for €25-30 per person. Very affordable for Swiss prices. The burgers were delicious, we got two different ones and the fries were very nice It is definitely a very good place where you can eat your fill and pay relatively cheaply in Bern. I highly recommend it, it was a good experience

I absolutely cannot recommend it! I ordered via Just Eat and the delivery was 50 minutes late. The food was almost cold, the burgers were terrible and not tasty. Nachos soft, stale. French fries soaked in fat. Catastrophe. 100 CHF was free.

I ordered the Butcher burger and was quite disappointed: it's not cheap, it's hard to tell if the meat is of good quality because it was overcooked, not to mention the bacon was burnt, too high a price for the quality you get. The waiters are friendly, but they don't come to the table to write down the order, everything has to be done via cell phone. This is a bit of a strange restaurant concept. What really annoyed me was that you can't pay in cash, only with your cell phone or card, I think you should be informed about this at the entrance of the restaurant. I didn't tip, the boss is supposed to pay his workers' wages, I've already paid enough for a rather mediocre hamburger.

We went there for the first time yesterday. Spontaneously went here for dinner. I am very positively surprised. The taste was very, very fine, the roll was very good and the meat was perfect. I would recommend it👍👍

Average burgers without taste or character, soft fries, drink that smells like a cellar, high bill (unlike the fries) and slow service: this place is not selling me a dream…

The evening started with the waiters and waitresses sitting us down at the table and simply saying that the food could be viewed through a QR code. Unfortunately, no one had explained that you had to order there too. I thought the idea was excellent, but there were problems with half of the orders. When all the orders were made, 3 portions of fries were forgotten, as well as a mayonaise that only came at the end. For an average burger, cold fries and a beer, each person in the group paid a little more than 50 CHF, which in my opinion is completely excessive for this service.

the meal is not bad, but clearly not worth the price 2 menu at 70.- Pitiful service, not a smile, very unpleasant and gives us a table that moves claiming that the others are reserved, 1 hour later we leave, the famous reserved tables still free. The music was too loud, I thought I was at the madhouse eating a Zurich-style burger. I strongly advise against it.

The beef burgers tasted okay. Personally, I didn't think the loaded chili cheese fries were particularly good. What bothered me most was the impersonal service with a QR code menu. Contrary to the classy-looking pictures online, the ambience can be compared to a fast food restaurant. The service and ambience absolutely do not match the pretty hefty prices. After eating the burger sat like a stone in my stomach... I wouldn't recommend it.

Great selection and taste tip top

The food is delicious but the service is unfriendly and the prices are almost outrageous. A tip is expected when you order if you pay via the app.

The Burger Bell was good and the sweet potato fries too. The bun could have been a little softer. And less pickles. The waitress wasn't sure whether it was our food and we had to have the coffee brought over. But otherwise everything was good and the price was right.

Food was not convincing. Burger was tasteless. The only thing I tasted was the bread. Fries were soft. Nachos with guacamole was okay. Guacamole could use more seasoning. Drinks were served incorrectly 2 out of 4 times. Ambiance is okay. For what you get, I think it's way too expensive. I'd rather go to McDonalds than eat here again.

The food, particularly the meat, was tasteless compared to our last visit. I understand that the restaurant might be moving towards a more vegetarian or "green" direction, given the majority of items on the menu. Perhaps it would be appropriate to consider changing the name from "The Butcher" to something that reflects their vegan or vegetarian offerings. We used to love this place, but unfortunately, it seems like this may be our last visit.

The burger is really nice! However, you don't come here for the ambience. In summer it is more inviting to eat “in the alley” than inside.

Too expensive for frozen patties with no taste

The meat was pretty tasteless and full of gristle. So I don't think the quality of the meat is really good and that's not really great for a restaurant that only serves burgers.

The burgers and fries are really tasty (hand cut). The map was recently changed. It has more vegetarian offerings and built your own burgers. Prices are not too high and everything is always fresh. Casual atmosphere and friendly staff

Went to eat here this evening. We came without reservation but there where only 2 other tables seated so was not busy in the restaurant. The gentleman told us to pick a table and we sat down. Nobody came to our table to explain the concept or ask for drinks so we thought we had to order through the QR block on the table after 15 minutes the lady asked us if we wanted to order (by this time we where almost finished with our order in the app) and we ordered at the waitress. The food was very fast and tasted really good. Nobody came to ask if food was good during or after we finnished. And when we where done we sat for 25/30 minutes with our empty plates that we already pushed to the edge of the table. We wanted to get dessert and coffee but we waited so long for our table to be cleared or at least something to drink that we left. Food was good, music way to loud,service very bad.

Order via mobile phone app/ burger cold, meat a shoe sole and minced meat full of cartilage… fries sloppy and nachos… soft. Despite feedback to the waitress on site, the boss didn't show up. The menu has also been reduced... it's a real shame what has become of the great butcher. Never again …

Bad service and expensive prices!

Extremely poor value for money. Burgers don't taste particularly good and the meat tastes like it's been thawed.

We went for lunch last week. It was Sunday so almost everything was closed, the hamburger was passable but the cost was exaggerated: 84 francs for 3 hamburgers.

Out of 10 orders, only 1 order was correct. The system with ordering via tablet didn't work at all. We got the burgers first, then the fries about 10 minutes later. Burger was cold when we received it. Very disappointing! Never again...
