Brasserie Federal in Zürich

We went to the Easter Brunch with the voucher bought on DeinDeal. Great atmosphere and service, beautiful setting, very good food. The only flaw was the orange juice which wasn't very good, and the water shouldn't be that of the sink. Otherwise very good and congratulations!

We had reserved, but the waitress didn't know anything about it. But there was enough space (Sunday March 24, 24, 11:45 a.m.). Unpleasant smell of stale food. Perch fillets in beer batter with potatoes and tartar sauce were good. The fact that the beautiful Swiss selection of dishes is only available from 3 p.m. (?) irritated us, especially since there was no notice or information to be found on the internet. Waiting room atmosphere, toilet access only with code (no information in the restaurant), overall not recommended.

Passable cuisine, unpleasant service, we were seated on the table, not set up, the waiter placed the sets and cutlery on the table, it was up to us to finish the set up, the place was a little noisy but beautiful.

I was willing to give a bad grade just because a waitress had provided very poor service. I can write a whole page here about how bad a waitress she was, but I'll keep this post shorter. Luckily Mr. Serdar (another waiter) noticed that I wasn't happy. He asked if he could help. I just explained one of the problems to him. He quickly found a solution. He also talked about the amazing building and decoration of the restaurant and immediately put you in a good mood (the opposite of the other waitress). Thanks to him and also delicious soup and salad, I now give this restaurant 5 stars.

I like this place, but the service is very bad, and the dinner, only potato's is good.

I like it because there are simple menus such as: Rösti with bratwurst.

Good hearty food in a great location

Located at the Zurich train station near the tracks at street level. Very busy at lunch time, we were around 11:30, when we got a table without queuing. The service worked, the food came quickly. Food ok good, expensive for the standard. The beer cost 7.5CHF. Clean restaurant, clean toilets with access code.

Good and inexpensive food in a historic location

Ate surprisingly well. Courteous staff without being intrusive. Relatively loud due to the many guests.

Recommended The restaurant's menu is in English. Easy to read and understand We chose to order the menu in the Swiss Cuisine category because we come here and eat some local food. We ordered Braised Minced Beef with Macaroni with Mountain Cheese and Apple Mousse is macaroni and meat sauce. What's special is that there is separate apple sauce. You can scoop it out and mix it with the macaroni. Another dish, we ordered Breaded Swiss Escalope with Züri Fries, which is actually thin fried pork slices and fried potatoes. Swiss style fried pork, crispy and quite fragrant. Children will probably like it because it's easy to eat. And there are fried potatoes to snack on as well. We also ordered Soup of the Day to eat before the main course. For this menu, there are both large and small sizes. but the same price It depends on whether you want to eat a lot or a little. You can tell the shop the size you want.

Very nice staff. Highly recommended good food. There is an elevator to the toilet for those with walking difficulties.

Located on the first floor of Zurich train station, the transportation is very convenient. The store has a large space and is a good place for locals to chat and dine after get off work. There were a lot of people during meal time, but the waiters were very friendly and the food was served very quickly. Penne with tomato beef sauce, delicious 👍.

At the Buffet Express at HB Zurich, sandwiches from the day before or even older are sold for over CHF 7. Plus they are getting smaller and smaller!! The bread was partially soggy and the lettuce leaf was completely wilted! That's a disgrace! Why do I care about the previous day's overproduction? Apparently no one in this company cares that old sandwiches are sold at full, overpriced price. It does not matter! The stupid tourists will never come back anyway!

A place you can't miss when you go to Zürich. At the central railway station of this beautiful city you find a very well decorated place with a menu of Swiss cuisine specialties and some international dishes. It's a bit of a shame that they took the Käseschnitte or cheese slice off the menu.

Previously a venerable restaurant with fine home-style Swiss cuisine... My first visit (after many years) was disappointing. Industrial “clearance” takes place here. Neither in the kitchen nor in the service did anyone speak Swiss German. The service was unfriendly and hardly spoke any German, the clothes were “greasy”. The bratwurst from the menu wasn't available: "We'd have to defrost it first" (it takes 1 minute in the microwave). The “must” meant in plain German: “it’s too much effort for us”. So ordered another sausage. The hash browns were swimming in butter, but had no crust at all and were soggy. Mustard + bread? None! 20cl Tonic Water = CHF4.60 (per liter CHF 23.00!!). Price drinks: exorbitant. Price of food: ok. Quality: just ok. Service: poor. Atmosphere: well... Conclusion: Never again! However, the shop is definitely something to be ashamed of if foreigners ever get lost here on their first visit from Zurich. PS: Putting the chairs on the tables 20 minutes before closing time is a no-go in the catering industry! What does that mean for the guest? “Get ready and leave quickly, we (staff) want to go home.” Update Jan 2024: The Fédéral sausage stand in the arrivals hall is even worse. The guy who served was in such a bad mood and uninterested (constantly looking at his cell phone), you really don't have to worry about that. Zero out of 5 stars.

The dining area is beautiful with very high ceiling like an old castle. The waiter was very rude and uncomfortable to deal with, food was not to my liking at all but that can fine for others. The bad service is universal unless you know the local language. Will not go again

Great restaurant in Zurich HB. Traditional Swiss cuisine and a large selection of beer. Deduction for the ambience, as it was always quite loud when I visited (although the restaurant can't really do much about it).

Worst place I've ever been in Europe. The guy who served me was prejudiced, arrogant and threw the menu at me. A perfect idiot.

Very fast service, fine food, fair prices.

Food was good and our waitress was nice. After eating on the tables outside we wanted to have a coffee (self service). The gentleman at the coffee bar initially made me wait, then after 5 minutes he referred me to another waiter because there was no time. Very weak after eating for 150 francs... greatly worsened the overall impression. 3 stars for service only thanks to the nice waitress during the meal.

Food very good, service fast, a bit cold and drafty in winter.

We were there recently to combine the waiting time with dinner. The kitchen offers a manageable menu selection of burgers and classic Swiss cuisine. The quality of the food was a positive surprise. The goods seem to be fresh and the Rösti gives the impression that it is homemade from raw potatoes. The service staff impresses neither with their attentiveness nor with their friendliness. One star is deducted due to the high noise level.

Service is miserable. I have visited the brasserie several times. The service shamelessly ignores customers - I sometimes had to wait up to 30 minutes to order something. You also have to ask several times for payment. After 45 minutes and asking three times, they react very angrily when you get up and walk towards the exit. Every kKiosk is more customer friendly than Federal.

😊 The Brasserie Federal in Zurich train station is fortunately still a nice traditional restaurant, and the home-style food is good and the prices are moderate. 😏 Only the staff shouldn't have to work so stressed, then the immense noise level - caused by the loud clatter of dishes in the open kitchen - would be a lot more subtle, and as a guest you could still have a normal conversation with your face to face, which unfortunately is not possible with the constant loud clatter of dishes.

Very special old place in the heart of Zürich at the Zürich HB. We took a soup and some drinks. The place itself is spectacular.

Experienced a total rip-off! Tourists, be cautious—potential scam❗️❗️😣😣😣 I inquired about tap water before ordering, and the waiter assured me it was free. However, I was later charged an extra 5 CHF. When I questioned it, he claimed it was for tax. Another waiter contradicted him, stating there's no sales tax in Switzerland. To add confusion, he then said the first tap water is free, but the second one is not ⚠️❗️

⚠️Be careful⚠️- I didn't like this place, not because of the food, but because of the service. I asked for ONE plate of food and they gave me TWO, so far so good. However, when I went to pay the bill (even with the double plate), an extra CHF 12 was put into the card machine, I only realized it later when I saw my bank account.

Unfortunately the quality of the food wasn't that good. I ate the worst Zurich Geschnetzelte ever. The sauce only consisted of cream and flavoring 🤣🤣 OMG...

Whenever I'm in Zurich, I like to come back here again and again. The many beers are a real highlight. If I'm really hungry, the burger or the cordon bleu are the right choice.

I ordered a coffee to go. 5.20.- Yes Zurich is expensive. But the paper cup wasn't even half full. Another time I wanted to order something at the counter. I was simply ignored. It is very loud in the hall and not comfortable at all

Stand at the bar for 10 minutes and not even acknowledge buy staff, When I finally get served the staff member walked away before I even finished my sentence served other people and completely forgot about me. 5 min later I gave up and walked out.

Located in the zurich train stat6. Very busy even late in the evening. We did like the beef tartar. It was too spicy and the way the beef was mince. It was a bit too fine. The veal cutlets with mushroom sauce was all right.

Prompt service, a bit impersonal but polite and quick. It is very loud in the restaurant, this is due to the architecture, everything is made of hard materials and there is nothing to dampen the sound. The food is OK, overall it's rather cheap here...

The food was fine, which my three guests confirmed. At 6 p.m., I received a basket of dark bread with my really good sausage salad, which was probably cut very early in the morning and was correspondingly dry. In addition, one of the slices must have probably been dropped into some kind of sauce at lunchtime, judging by the color of a gravy. But the employee didn't seem to be particularly interested. I only feel sorry for my successor, who probably got the same basket. There can be no question of ambience, the noise was indescribable, so that conversation became a matter of luck.

Unfortunately, service has only gotten worse lately - there were definitely better times... it's a shame, but being ignored for 15 minutes until you get a beer is just too much. If the service employee was really "in the shit", I would still be able to understand.

Well - there are various restaurants nearby where the staff speaks common language and understands what you want to order...

Terrible service, it's a shame because the meal was quite good. The waitress doesn't even greet us, welcoming us, then we ask her questions about the menu, but she doesn't necessarily know how to answer and doesn't even try.. She brings us the dish and orders it wrong, she leaves without any apology. It's a shame because the setting and the food are not treated at their true value.

Instead of putting a reserve for 8 people on both tables, this information was only shared on one table. We were later made aware of this during consumption. The previous guest's dishes were not cleared away.

Swiss classic! Fine, good and inexpensive. In addition to lunch menus such as chicken breast and pasta, there is also Züri Geschnetzeltes from the menu.

It's just a big hall. Very loud and the punch was expensive and almost impossible to enjoy. Service was friendly and quick.

They have become rare, the classic restaurants in large train stations. All the better that the Federal still exists in Zurich. And to grab something to eat just under an hour before the train leaves, absolutely fine. Burger was average, fries were tasty. Service was absolutely top notch, friendly and efficient.

First of all, the worst experience of my life. If I could give 0, I would give 0. We waited 15 minutes to be served, our two waiters didn't speak any German at all and couldn't understand what we were saying. One was blonde and the other had wings tattooed on his neck. They have fried eggs, but no scrambled eggs? We both ordered fried eggs, but only my colleague got them. I never got my breakfast. 15 Fr. for 2 croissants and a butter and a jam. Horror.

Nice, a little noisy. Decent cuisine but the meat was quite bad and fatty. Strong insistence from the waitress to get a tip despite poor service (slowness, order error twice...). I rounded for simplicity of calculation but will not return.

The train station buffet remains the train station buffet... venison pepper sauce is very good, some pieces of meat are tender, spaetzli is subpar, red cabbage is so good. Totally overloaded plate. Waiters friendly and attentive, but still a lot of room for improvement professionally. But unfortunately the only restaurant in the area that is open in the afternoon.

Quality has deteriorated massively! The menu only came after 15 minutes and then another 12 minutes until he came back. A shop like this definitely has no place in a train station. I've been here regularly for over 10 years but I don't have to admit it anymore

We only had soup of the day, but it tasted like soup. Service mediocre, I asked for the bill 3 times, finally I paid at the checkout. We actually had a good meal here during lockdown, but then there were few people in the restaurant.

Eatery at the train station. Mediocre food, too many people, but the interior is nice. A place to wait for the train to depart, have a wheat beer and a pretzel.

The service is often very busy and so you should only wait for service when it seems quiet. Otherwise, you'll be happy if you proactively go to the counter and place the order or take it away yourself. It's relatively loud, so if you're just looking for a place to drink a coffee or grab something to eat, you've come to the right place.

Ordered minced meat with applesauce. It was only warm on the surface, cold on the inside, rather horrible.

Draft beer is delicious and cheap. It is the most cost-effective drink in Switzerland👍

The waitress assigned the two of us to a table for four because the restaurant was half empty. When we wanted to sit down, the colleague came and wanted to send us to a corner. "You can't sit here!" We went out there. Very impolite!! Let's never go again!!

The selection of dishes is decent and the quality of the food rarely leaves anything to be desired. Despite the stress, the waiters are friendly and even make the odd joke. The Federal is more than worth a visit. The only point of criticism is a barmaid who likes to overcharge for one or two beers. That's why I recommend that if you want to sit at the bar, it's better to pay for your beers individually.

Food is really good. Service is so so . Long wait to be serve . Atmosphere is also so cozy and oldies . All drink in big glasses.
