Brown Cow in Zermatt

The waitress never answered. The owner decided to kick us out because we waited 30 minutes to place an order and he asked us to leave as they do not want to serve us. . It’s a disaster of a service. The owner was displaying racist behaviours on top. Shame such people can own a restaurant in such a touristic place.

A pub with a very good atmosphere, but in addition to the fact that the food had hair, the guy at the bar that day was very rude to serve us, when we arrived and also when asking for the bill he covered his face and ignored us giving orders to another waitress to give them to us, I think something should be done about it!

Good pub. Decent beer selection but missing some solid craft options.

Good food. Good prices. Good service. Enjoyable atmosphere. Right on the main shopping strip. They were playing American country music while I was there. They have high top tables, standard sitting tables, and a bar to sit at.

Great tavern to escape the cold. Beers, soups, burgers and wood interior. Vibes of 17th century travelers. Ate there and got food to go, both were good. Some of the friendliest staff I met in Zermatt.

Lousy customer service. Lousy of the worst in every way. In the most uncomfortable place in Zermatt I felt. The waitress did not want to bring us the menu "just explaining what was there with her words and very bad form"!!!! I would not go back.

Average place in my experience. I had a quick Gullasch soup, which was nothing special and did not taste homemade but rather convenient. Service was quite slow, even sitting in a group if two and close to the bar we were not asked once if we wanted to get new drinks, albeit we wanted to und tried to order with the waiters multiple times. For us it seemed just like, that service personal does not need to work proactively as they get enough running by customers anyway.

Chilled and nice place to have some drinks and talks! Our night’s special was our bartender! She made our time at the bar super nice with her nice cocktails and conversation! Strongly recommended!

Very friendly staff, good atmosphere, but mediocre food. The place is almost always packed, as it has some great seating tables by the window and is located in the city center.

The best barman in Zermatt resides in the Brown Cow. Our South African friend ran a tight ship alone vs 30 / 40 people and still delivered excellent service. Not sure how he managed that but I applaud him.

We love this place. Very well priced for Zermatt, gets very busy but the staff does a great job keeping up with the crazy pace. Special thanks to Johann who made our meals there an even funner experience. No matter how slammed they are he always keeps his cool demeanor and always manages a quick hi or wave! We were happy to see him on our last day in Zermatt to say goodbye (or see you all again soon!) and we will definitely be back! Highly recommend the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. I got it again when we went back! Serving sizes are fantastic here and the tenders/nuggets are big!

Tried to have lunch last Thursday and waited over 10 minutes for the table to be cleaned from the previous customers. When I approached the waiter to ask if he could clean the leftovers (I thought maybe he had not seen the customers had changed) he showed me his 2 hands and asked me ‘How many hands do I have?’ Himself responded ‘two’. I thanked for his attention and we left to have lunch at Manud which was as busy as Brown Cow Pub but they have another approach to welcoming customers, a much more positive one. We go often to Zermatt and it’s not the first bad experience at Brown Cow Pub, the personnel is always stressed. I’ll continue not going to Brown Cow Pub but I hope management hires and train personnel to treat customers with respect.

Be very careful going here I was over charged 5,500 franks here and they refunded some of the amount but still owe me 320 franks because of the exchange rate but have refused to pay. Very disappointed 🙁

Spent 5 days in Zermatt last week, and my wife and I both agree that the Brown Cow was our favorite place to eat/drink. We loved the atmosphere (busy, great music, good service) and, as Americans, we appreciated how the servers were patient with us as we navigated through our drink/food options. Everything we ate and drank was VERY good each and every visit we made (I think we went in four times!) Now that we're back home in Texas, we hope to return to Zermatt one day to ski and visit the Brown Cow. Cheers from Texas!

100% go here for a beer and some food. Berger was very good (little too much salt) the nachos was excellent. The staff were all very busy but did good service with a smile. Management should maybe employee 1 more person during busy season. We could have had another round of drinks but wasn’t asked! Silly seeing that we are a captive audience.

We had the Zermatter burger and nachos which was not bad. The salmon burger was not good. Service was great.

Excellent place that we just stumbled upon! Good to hang out, eat a good burger and also have a beer! We ate a Stinky Burger whose cheese was delicious (although the bread could be better) with fries (good). You just have to come in, find a table and wait to be served.

Note: there is a sign that says please seat yourself! No one will usher you in especially when it’s real busy. Afterwards, try to catch a staff’s attention if they haven’t come to you in a while. During peak hours, they’re very busy so please be patient! == We tried the Zermatter burger and Cheeseburger, and the final verdict was that while the Cheeseburger was good, the Zermatter burger was even tastier 😋😋 The burger set comes with fries and mayonnaise and ketchup sauces, by the way! Also, we tried the Cardinal Speciale and the Zwickel to go with our burgers. Also, the service was great as they’d check in with us during our meal and at the end they wished us happy holidays 😊 Merci!

The place is welcoming, the service very pleasant, even if we don't speak Swiss German well. Very attentive (water bowl for the dog), the service is quite fast, and the prices are very reasonable for Zermatt (we recommend the burgers, yum).

I had the nicest burger I ever tasted here. Absolutely delicious Angus Beef. The pints of Guinness weren't bad either. Staff were really friendly and a great relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend the Brown Cow Pub.

A pub restaurant in Zermatt, located on the main street, a half-American pub atmosphere, don't expect luxury attention, no one welcomes you and you sit wherever there is a place, the atmosphere is warm, pleasant, good music, dim lighting. You can communicate in English without a problem, and there is a wide variety of foods, the hamburger is very delicious as are the fries, the Swiss blonde beer never failed to impress me, a place to have a beer, eat and listen to music. In general I recommend it. Reasonable prices in Switzerland.

Please read the reviews here before you go. Especially if you’re Asian looking face! Most of the reviews from foreigners below have had unpleasant experience with the young waitress (reddish long hair/ black tshirt uniform). She kept our plates while we were still eating despite I have told her “I’m still eating” (soup and bread) she then asked me to keep my spoon but took my plate away. When we asked for bill, it took ages and she came back mumbling in her own languages saying we were rushing her. I really hope the owner could read the review and conduct a proper training towards this lady. A total shame to the restaurant and even service industry in Swiss.

Place smells greasy, of frying oil, I'm sure you step outside after dining your clothes reek of oil... Whatever you do, don't order the salad, stale lettuce and dry chopped carrots...I know, I know you don't order a salad from a pub..but stilll... you're still paying 17 swiss francs... The fish fry was ok...fries did not come with ketchup.... Service was indifferent...would never setp foot again.. 3 wines and a decent draft beer in the menu..

Food taste good but staff’s attitude is unacceptable and possibly racist

It was a great experience when we went for dinner. 4 of us shared 3 dishes as we are small eaters. One of the staff (who provided such great service she seemed like the lady boss) gave us extra plates for sharing. Went back the next day for lunch, but alas, the experience was a 180-degree change. The waitress took our order for 3 dishes and 2 drinks. We were provided with only 2 sets of utensils. When we asked for 2 more sets, she rudely told us no sharing is allowed and refused to provide us with more utensils. We told her that we were there last evening, and she said her colleague made a mistake in allowing us to share. The whole great experience had been negated.

We are from the US visiting on a trip and we simply looked up restaurants in Zermatt. Wow, I cannot recommend this place enough. The burgers and fries are amazing. The wings were SO GOOD! Highly recommend!!!!!!!!

Very smart pub, well decorated with a good choice of beer and food. That’s where the positives stop… This establishment is Chronically Understaffed!!! The staff try their best but you can see the Stress of trying to work at this place written all over their faces. Management take note!! Also serves the worlds most expensive pint of Guinness, I’ve travelled to the depths of the Middle East and paid less for a pint of badly poured Guinness.

Nice respite from the main drag. Great service and choice of beers. Do not order anything but a burger. My meal of chicken cordon Bleu was over cooked and inedible. The fries were old and cold. The salad looked like it had been in the fridge for days. They could do much better than this.

I happened to go in on a Wednesday night and saw a live performance. They perform every Wednesday night, so it would be a good time to go.

I ordered a Swiss burger and it came with french fries and it tasted good. However, the price including the beer was enormous. If you stay at Unique Post, there is no place open in the evening in this area, so there is nowhere to go, but it is worth eating in a nice atmosphere.

*Worst restaurant of my life -A house that doesn’t even deserve a star -Pay money and see the end of unkindness. -The worst young waitress during the day (reddish brown hair) First of all, I don't expect any kindness and it would be nice to just do the basics, but the person taking the order is a cheap rip-off. I couldn't wait, so I took the menu to the bar top to order directly, but the "waitress in question" said she would take the order at the table, so I left it there. They suddenly came and said that one of the menus had disappeared, so I was suspicious haha. Wow, this is really absurd. Even though they said it was on the bar top over there, they looked at our bags and said no. They must have thought we had stolen it, so they threw down a place mat. Four people ordered two hamburgers, a nacho set, wings, two beers, and cola. I asked for a cola cup for my parents to drink, and they said they didn't allow sharing, so they said they understood. But other than the two people eating burgers, they didn't even give forks. When I asked someone else for a fork, the “waitress in question” came and told me no, blah blah blah, and started making pictures on the poster. I just said it was okay and didn't accept it. The Korean table next to us was also very late in paying... as expected... I asked them to pay and waited, and when I asked them to pay again, they said, "I don't work for you." I know, I know, but it's really cheap. Even if there isn't one, there isn't too much. The taste is just an ordinary taste that everyone knows. Do you really need to eat this?! 🤔 Oh my haha I think going to McDonald's would be better than this.

They have a very varied menu, tending a little more towards fast food. The food is exquisite and super cheap compared to other restaurants. Very friendly waiters, very good music selection and incredible atmosphere. We repeat and we would do it again! Highly recommended. They give you water for free.

This is an awesome pub with great food and great beer! We stopped here on our first night in town to get a quick bite to eat and really enjoyed it.

We had two burgers from the special menu. Black Angus and salmon burger (the black one), both were very tasty and beautiful to look at. The waiter was friendly. The Cordonbleu is better frozen even from Migros. The fries are just fine. The burgers all come with house sauce of which there was no trace. Completely unseasoned. Extremely oily Mexican Burger...??? Where is Mexican??? The description in the map was good 😀. Salad is ok but the salad sauce doesn't taste like anything. Chicken nuggets were exceedingly good Well I would say I have never had anything like this in a restaurant in Switzerland. Better suited for drinking than eating, even if the appearance of the food was good. The price is cheap for Zermatt but I'd rather pay 3 francs more and get good food

Where I went to drink Zermatt beer The wings have a spicy taste, but are perfect to eat with beer!! The portions were quite large, so the two girls could barely eat them all. It was a great place because the fries were delicious and the beer was delicious! The server is also very friendly.

If you are in town and are looking for a fun chill place to get some “regular” good-priced good Brown Cow is the way to go! We were here for a few days and came twice! And love both items! Chicken bacon salon was the best salad I’ve ever had!!! It was so so yummy! Great pub! It is busy so don’t come if you are in a hurry. Sit down relax and enjoy the good food!
