The Baroness restaurant. This mountain restaurant belongs to the village of Montalchez. This restaurant remains poorly located. It has no view and remains far from Creux-du-Van. The managers change almost every year. Now, in 2023, this restaurant remains average. There is no longer a dining room, transformed into a living room. Only the terrace remains. Or continues.

I really liked the very warm welcome as well as the love of cooking shown by the owners who, with good humor, know how to concoct simple, hearty and very good dishes (I had a rösti-ham). I fell for the baroness' sin, entirely homemade and delicious... (double cream, fresh fruit meringues in her little bricelet basket), for sure, I'll go back... it's a pleasure on land (dormitories) ideal for exploring during magnificent hikes in Creux du Van and in the surrounding mountain pastures. (the 2nd photo is a view of Lake Neuchâtel from the heights of Montalchez) the access path from Montalchez, crossing fields, deciduous and fir forests, is magnificent.

Visit Crau du Van, direction Montalchez or Val de Traver, Catón de Neuchâtel. A 15-minute walk from La Barone, we are waiting for you at La Barone, friendliness, laughter, large terrace, parking, excellent cuisine made with love by Lina and Geneviève!

Beautiful place with nice regional snacks, but after 15 minutes waiting and not being served we left the place. Unfortunately other guests who arrived later got served sooner than we. Bit of consistency in serving the clients would help a lot.

We ended up there by chance. The boss is very nice. Luckily she also spoke German. The food and portion size were ok. You can only pay in cash as there is no network there (4 x Natel, all different providers and all no network). A bit expensive in terms of price. But considering the distance you have to travel to go shopping, it's still within reason.

PRO: Was open. Family atmosphere. CONS: Prices for home cooking and portion sizes are simply too expensive. We had a soup as a starter (approx. 500ml water, some leek, a few potato pieces and croissants) and paid CHF 45 (!) for this soup!!! Was an absolute rip off. There were 3 of us, we had the soup as a starter, 3 drinks (2x 3dl cola, 1x 3dl apple spritzer) and 3 plates of the day (2x ham and hash browns, 1x ham and potato salad - i.e. normal sliced ​​ham with a fatty edge). Final price just under CHF 130.- without dessert, without salad, without coffee, without alcohol. This is not how you treat Swiss tourists. We definitely recommend other restaurants nearby. We'll definitely find out which one.
