Café Chapeau in Luzern

Nice place, helpful staff, the price of coffee is ok for Lucerne however for a chocolate brioche CHF 5.50 it is way too expensive! In general, the prices for eating out are excessive, which is a shame.

A January Sunday in Lucerne, the universal energy ensures a free spot in any of our desired locations. There is also a free table in Café Chapeau and we enter the café at 5:16 p.m. "Sorry, we're closing." - "Yes, but only at 6 p.m." - "We had the last lap at 5:15 p.m." It's not appropriate to turn away customers/guests like that. Not even in a tourist-spoiled location in Lucerne. Sorry, for this weak idea we'll see you again!

The map is confusing and complicated. The prices are exorbitant! A Croque Monsieur for 18.50 and no salad!

Nice place, but should learn how to make a hot chocolate.. this one is like milk for children. Swiss is the county of chocolate after all. And make a decent hot chocolate is not that hard.

A really cosy and nice café. We stopped there for tea and cakes after an afternoon of shopping and really enjoyed the experience. The cakes were delicious and the staff was very friendly.

We entered the café at 9 p.m. and were greeted with “we’ll be closing soon”. It says on the door until 10 p.m.? “Yes, there would just be one last round.” Well, ok.. Free tables but not cleared. We had to wait. There was no service, we ordered at the bar. For such overpriced drinks and this poor, not very friendly service - no thanks. The two different rosé wines for 9.50 each were both terrible and stale. Conclusion: The first and last time in the Chapeau. Very unfortunate and disappointing. As a Lucerne resident, I would have liked better dining in this location.

Nice restaurant and fine food. Service is very unstructured and slow. If you have to wait 55 minutes for the soup of the day during the week, that's far too long. Not suitable for a short lunch break during the week.

I really like the location and the concept of the cafe! The employees are nice. But unfortunately I have to say that every time I visit, the service takes quite a long time. I don't know what the problem is but I hope it gets better in the future. :) (You really don't have to wait long for the food, but unfortunately for the drinks)

As if it had always been here. Wonderful from the outside, it fits exactly into this corner of the city. Very friendly service, cozy atmosphere.

A beautiful, chicly decorated café with the best Croque Monsiers/Madames we have ever eaten. It's nice that places like this still exist.

During my short stay in Lucerne I was almost a regular guest. A very cozy café beautifully located in the old town with a great ambience. The service was very warm and attentive. I ate and drank excellently. The Café Chapeau is definitely on the agenda for my next visit to the city of lights! 🙂

I never leave reviews but this place deserves it. Was having a bit of a rough day having just moved to Switzerland and still feeling out-of-place, not knowing anything, anyone or the local language yet. The 2 lovely young ladies working spoke English, shared the Wi-Fi password so I could connect with home and served my orders with a warm smile and affection. I know where to go now when I need some time to myself. It’s in a peaceful street with a little patio with a tree right in front. It’s a very cozy place inside too. I cannot recommend it enough.

A nice café in the middle of the city of Lucerne. Nice interior and a good (if a bit expensive) menu. The only drawback is the service: attention, friendliness and promptness could still be improved.

Very attentive and friendly service, a wonderful cappuccino, a delicious smelling and tasting pain au chocolat in an excellent location. We will be back.

Unfortunately it is overpriced, which makes the whole thing a bit unpleasant.

The ambience is very nice but unfortunately it's about a little more. Service very unstructured and slow, there is a lack of trained staff here. The pricing policy is extremely questionable. CHF 18.50 for an Egg Benedict with 1 slice of bread is massively overpriced. And it would be really nice if you knew the classic Egg Benedict recipe, because a fried egg is definitely not one of them. Poaching eggs really isn't much of a culinary art.

It was on a Saturday between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. The Café Chapeau was currently half full and we were seated in a friendly manner... but then the staff cleared away and started discussing with each other... After about 15 minutes. A waitress noticed that we were waiting and brought us the cards. But then no one comes to take our order after another 15 minutes. we got up and left the restaurant. No reaction! As a resident of this city, such an experience is simply sad. 3 stars because Lucerne as a business location deserves 0 stars

The food, like the ingredients, was very good, but the service could still be improved. Although the service staff were very friendly, they were a bit overwhelmed when it came to serving them. There were plenty of staff, but communication between each other didn't work properly. The concept and ambience are still convincing and are definitely worth a visit.

The service is nice but unfortunately not structured, the food was good. If you order and nothing comes (same thing at the neighboring table) and the service staff is sitting outside at the table, you move on. It's a shame about the beautiful location.

Beautiful and well-kept atmosphere in the middle of the city of Lucerne. Unfortunately the price-performance ratio is not right. The toast Monsieur (I think it was called that - a cheese and ham toast with a fried egg) that I ate was completely soaked in butter. Too difficult! The salad was nice, but very small. I drank a portion of verveine tea with my toast. I paid CHF 36.50.

Café Chapeau is a lovely little coffee shop in the middle of Lucerne. The range of drinks and breakfast is varied and good. The lemonade was very tasty and beautifully prepared. The chocolate croissant was very crispy and delicate. The prices are a bit high, but the pastries are fresh and very tasty.

Don't understand the negative reviews. Of course the portion size (waffle) was really relatively small for the price, I agree. But it was very tasty and the nut chocolate brioche was also excellent! I also like the atmosphere and the service was very prompt and friendly.

Finally there is a really nice café with outdoor seating in Lucerne! Very friendly and nice service and a nice little menu with nothing missing for a café. The Chapeau is a wonderful place to rest after a stroll through the city. Highly recommended!

Unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired. Unfriendly and unmotivated, sometimes even arrogant. In addition, the food is overpriced for the small portion.

Super nice cafe with very friendly staff. The service comes from the heart, the iced tea with basil and the good selection of wines are impressive!

The atmosphere was good, the employees were nice but I am missing 9CHF. My total was 17.50.-, I handed her 100.50.-, so in total I would've gotten 82.-, she returned 73.-. I gave her a 2.- tipp.-. My mistake was it to not count the money I got back, because I was in a rush to get home and I trusted that I'll get the right amount. As said, my mistake and it's too late to fix it, but I'll come again because I like the atmosphere and the kindness of the employees.

Unfortunately our reservation was not taken into account. The poached egg was a fried egg, which is a real shame and the two poached eggs were practically runny. The prices for this are far too high. The service seems a bit unfriendly and stressed. And that during the week.

If the prices are so high, the quality should also be good. Egg Benedict costs CHF 18.50, which is a hefty price. The edge of the bread was charred black, 2 fried eggs, hollandaise sauce. Price is not justified for size and quality. Either reduce prices or improve quality. At least we were offered an espresso as an apology. You have to wait a long time, the service is a bit 'lost' and disorganized. A pity. We'll wait a bit and try again in a few weeks. It's a shame, you simply can't afford to start like that in the catering industry.

Actually not bad at all, but definitely overpriced. The micro muffin rounded off the experience. Anyway, the coffee was good.

Went to the café with children today. The children had to wait 30 minutes for their drinks! The service was completely overwhelmed and unstructured. "You never have a second chance to change the first impression". It's a shame - there is a lot of potential for optimization.
