Café du Gothard in Fribourg

A must-see restaurant in Fribourg. Our first Friborg fondue for people from Nantes will remain a magnificent memory. Thanks to Valérie and her team for their warm welcome when we arrived 1 hour early and who welcomed us like family. The recommended wine was a nice pairing with our dish and the little pear di botzi concluded this great discovery. A big thank-you Kenavo!

We finished our Pilgrim walk and had a well-deserved dinner. We had a fantastic fondue night... well, some from our group had different dishes. We all had a wonderful time in this charming place. Book it ahead if you are a big group. Don't miss the restaurant if your in the area.

Traditional style traditional and family atmosphere... if you want to eat typically Fribourgeois without putting your feet up (to save the francs from your pockets lol) here is a place that I recommend: for its always up-to-date menu and its unbeatable daily menu in terms of quality and price (22 francs for soup, starter and main course)... And of course its fondues! Long live the Gotthard! And thank you !

Wonderfully “rustic” restaurant with a lot of tradition and a certain flair. The fondues are second to none, the portions are perfectly sized and come with bread and potatoes. First of all, a hearty amuse-bouche. The chicken and pork sausage are also exceptionally tasty. Even when the house was full, the service remained confident and gave our children some sweets at the end. Would love to come back.

The fondue was excellent and the atmosphere is lovely. The server with a brassy blonde Bob made sure there was no nuts in the bread or crackers we were given. My problem was when our server changed to a tall woman with short brown hair. I told our server I had a nut allergy (multiple times in French and she confirmed she understood) she said okay and then did not bother to check with the kitchen if my dessert had nuts, she just told me it didn’t. The dessert DID have nuts and if I hadn’t have noticed this, I could have died because her lack of care and unprofessionalism. This restaurant is NOT SAFE for allergy sufferers. When I told her it had nuts she said no it doesn’t so I showed her the pieces of nuts in the dessert and she made a very weak apology and said she didn’t know that. Seriously not impressed as I could have died and very little care was shown for this outrageous mistake. The tall server with short hair for specificity.

You need to start with a delightful environment, everything is imbued with some unique atmosphere. There are portraits of famous visitors on the walls. Such a slightly bourgeois atmosphere. And there is even a Jean Tinguely car. I want to sit and sit. And, of course, the cuisine is simply amazing: authentic Friborg cuisine. Everything is very tasty, with soul. Huge portions, but the price is reasonable. This is a must visit in Friborg and throughout Switzerland if you want to try real Swiss cuisine. This is definitely the place in Friborg!

The boletus fondue was exquisite. The perfectly tender steak. All this in a typical setting and pleasant service. Perfect!

Pleasant setting and good cuisine. On the other hand, we were “kicked out” at 7:40 p.m. because the people who had booked for 8:00 p.m. arrived earlier than expected!! . We hadn’t finished, we knew that at 8 p.m. we had to leave but then we were “ejected” 20 minutes earlier than expected…! The manager literally took our plates back from us while I was still eating and asked us to leave the table before it was even time. After having consumed almost 200.- for 2, I really had the impression that we were no longer needed and “to the next one”! Very bad attitude which left me with a bitter taste for my very first evening in the city of Fribourg.

The place to be for eating an excellent fondue. Half-Moitié - with boletus (a treat) or the Gothard. Prices fair to a little high, but you won't regret it.

Good fondue, wines also offered. The welcome, on the other hand, was rather cold from the manager, we even wondered if we were bothering us by coming to eat. The waitresses are helpful and attentive. The setting is pleasant but quite noisy.

Great local restaurant, 2 adults, we shared a fondue (served with baby potatoes and bread) as well as a rosti, and they were very generous portions. Very nice welcome and service. We had a little difficulty finding parking nearby, but public transportation stops directly in front of the property.

The best fondue in Freiburg. I took the lighter version, la moine moine. Definitely worth trying the tastiest one.

This restaurant is a Must visit when you are in town They have the best food in town: If you come once you definitely should order Escargots Teté de beau A bottle of white wine Riex Et catera And the raclette You Must make a reservation because it’s almost always full Ask for Valerie she’s the big boss there, you can tell her you are friend of Alfonso from Mexique!

Great welcome. We didn't have a reservation and there was just one table left! We ate local, roesti and sausage from the local butcher. For dessert, double cream meringue. The prices are not excessive, the local decor is perfect and we had a great time!

Best seasonal fondue I tried in Switzerland! I live in the country and have visited several well-known cities and tried fondue. In Friborg it was the best of all. This restaurant has fondue as the most recommended and I highly recommend it too because it really is very good. Unlike the others, it is very creamy and has just the right taste.

How can you not love it? A beautiful place and good food, I love it!

It is a place where there is a friendly and special atmosphere. I went there mainly during weekend evenings. I quickly felt at ease. The decoration is that of a library while having an offbeat side. It's the ideal place to read a book but also to party with friends. We will not forget to mention the anecdote inherent to the site. She tells us that in the past, the baptism of fire consisted of putting the guy on an old stroller to let him freewheel down the descent of the Stalden which is so steep that it's super painful to go up on foot.

Typical restaurant, a little rich for the evening (fondue, rosties,...) but we knew that when we went there! Friendly service

Traditional restaurant with very friendly and attentive service. The fondue is very tasty. An authentic and cozy place for a nice evening. A reservation is recommended.

Very good restaurant! We were there for a fondue and we were completely satisfied! We tasted 2 types of fondues even though there were 4 of us: the “half and half” (vacherin/gruyère) and the “bolet” (the same but with boletus 🥰). Both were really very good and very dense as a good Friborg fondue should be 🥰 To summarize: a great local restaurant, great service, a great fondue in a great city => go there!

We enjoyed an excellent fondue in a warm setting and impeccable hospitality. Excellent service, very good food and a fairly varied choice of desserts. If you are in Friborg I advise you to go there and taste the house specialties.

First time to this very Swiss eatery. Atmosphere was very warming. Staff totally professional, competent, and informally friendly. Though my French was poor! Food, of course, the Fondue aux Bolet, it was very good, but thought the Vacheron cheese was not as strong as I had hope for. Otherwise, really enjoyed it. My wife had the sausage really taste and authentic, but the accompaying french fries looked very sad. Otherwise, a place to frequent when in town.

Not accessible to people in wheelchairs, The staff was very stressed. The food was good.

We appreciated this restaurant in Gstaad for its welcome, the quality of the dishes, and the environment. On the other hand, we were very surprised to find that the drop of white wine which had been offered to us in a glass to test, we were charged 3.50 Swiss francs. Especially since this wine was not to my taste at all. But we were in Gstaad!!!

An essential address in Fribourg. Not many dishes on the menu: that’s a good sign! And this is verified on the plate. Traditional dishes made from quality products. All this in an authentic setting with always smiling and helpful staff.

Very nice restaurant. Very friendly and very competent welcome. I ate snails and it was very good! The fries were unfortunately not as good... I was just a little surprised when one of the waitresses came to tell me: "good cholesterol feels good!"... It was certainly not malicious but it was not. not one thing to say to a restaurant customer! Otherwise really good 👌
