The café is on the sunny side of one of the most beautiful squares in Basel. Otherwise the café would be nothing, nothing of service, nothing of café quality and the most expensive in Basel. Really cheeky.

I like this place, usually I come here for a coffee which is strong and nice, the service is great too. The little platz where you can sit down is cozy and has a great vibe.

Yesterday was strolling Sunday and everything was switched back to carnival. We ate delicious cake and had great service, even though yesterday was very busy! Highly recommended, gladly again :)

Nice place. So go there sometimes. The employees are nice too (a second consolation star for that). But the management is unfriendly and extremely stingy. Charging for re-ordering hot water is petty and uninviting...

A quiet place but with a lot of energy

We loved this plaza with its trees, and blankets to keep outdoor diners cozy. Wonderful place to stop for a beer.

Great little cafe to get a (relatively) inexpensive lunch. The vegetable soup is excellent, and a generous bowl. The hummus was good, but mainly for the extra bread to dip in the soup. Hot ham and cheese sandwich was nice, too.

What a great place, the Gifthüttli had no space and was unfortunately a little rude, then I saw the great ambience. Here I received friendly service, had a great place with peace and quiet despite the city center, really homely and I was welcomed with open arms. Prices are just like they are in Basel, so okay, but it's worth it, especially the empanadas. And for all the overall picture, hospitality and delicious food and drink, the price was absolutely worth it to me. It was the first time here and certainly not the last time ❤️ Thanks to the nice service this evening

One of the most beautiful squares and an unmissable attraction in Basel, on Andreasplatz surrounded by medieval architecture and a romantic ambience. Stay here to have pleasant conversations, eat something delicious and drink something. The CaféRestaurant “Ängel oder Aff” shines with its friendly staff and its pleasant, warm ambience. People like to come back here again and again. For example, enjoy a delicious salad with warm goat cheese on bread.

Food was lousy (ready-made burritos were still slightly frozen, salad was served without sauce). Service can hardly be rated because it is self-service, which is completely ok. Recommended for a coffee, I can only advise against eating.

Every few years this restaurant is a must when visiting Basel. This time only with one cyclist during the break - but the atmosphere on the square is always great, everyone can be who they are, everything is relaxed and informal.

Lovely little square in the middle of the lovely city center. Every detail of this place is made on purpose to make you feel good. The bistro is self-service and the terrace is usually full, but you can sit anywhere in the square, it is always very pleasant. Even next to the monkey!

Nice bar/cafe in a small enclosed square. Peaceful place for a drink next to a restful water fountain to fill your water bottle. Very busy but worth it if you can get a table.

We came here on Easter day for a couple 8chf draft beers, to sit in the nicely secluded, ancient courtyard in gorgeous late afternoon sun. What a lovely day. Other folks seem to be enjoying coffee and flamenkuchen next to us. Just a really great spot for an apero close to the old town center.

They sometimes offer amazing live music evenings, keep an eye on the banner in front of the bar where they announce their Jazz evenings, it's probably the best jazz you can find in Basel!

Croissants might very well be the best in town! But the lady selling them makes you want to rather buy the worst croissants in town on the other side of town. Rude, improper and keeps her earpods in. /edit reply to response of owner: Very glad to hear you are especially kind and understanding towards the female employees. You should try being kind and understanding towards your customers also. Offering a service with earpods in is simply unprofessional and also rather rude. Saying "hello, goodmorning, how may I help you?", should be the foundation of the service you try to provide.

Always a good option to drink a coffee or beer. Conveniently located and central, but still quiet and cozy.

Nice self service bar with delicious tarte flambée. You sit quietly, a little away from the shopping mile, in a small courtyard. The drinks are very good and everything is freshly prepared. The prices are typical for Basel.

I spent a very relaxing afternoon in Ängel or Aff. Because it is located in the backyard, it is pleasantly quiet. There is a good selection of sweet and savory dishes. I had a very nice broccoli quiche with peppermint tea. Next time I'm in Basel, I'll definitely stop by again.

Located inside a hidden square, we had lunch outside, pleasant temperature. We had a generous amount of lentil soup and a falafel plate. All very tasty. Fast service.

It was one of my local haunts when I lived in Basel and it's been 21 years since I went back. Its.still the same, great vibe and romantic. A small selection but high quality cakes are offered, a mixed black board menu of meat and vegetarian dishes and lovely staff! Ok. Rare I post anything negative but it's got to be mentioned. Angel staff, it's unexceptable for your guests to change their babies nappies right near to where people are eating. They need to do it elsewhere or set up a baby room/corner. Its not your fault Angel staff, it's 100% wrong of the parent to do such an unhygienic act, but you need to address it if it's happening on your patch. Nevertheless, we shall return.

We found this café by chance on the first day of our stay in Basel and we returned several times the following days, suffice to say we loved it! Very well located in an adorable courtyard, very good dishes, it is an address that makes you want to stroll all afternoon on the sunny terrace. We will come back !

Best place ever to take a hot chocolate when rains catch you in the middle of the street. In the heart of a lovely quite square, plenty of local people, just perfect.
