Very good value for money for this restaurant and also self catering on long slopes in winter. Daily menu with soup or salad and very good main course. Carafe of water available. The best this year in the ski area.

We have been coming for many years with the region's schools to ski in the Villars Gryon region. 1 × more we came with students coming to discover the slopes of this ski area. The students ate lunch in the restaurant. In the afternoon some students wanted to take a break. They therefore consumed drinks from the restaurant, but as two students who already had a personal bottle of water took them out on the table, our students were then kicked out with unacceptable remarks... when we called them to discuss We were treated like nothing and hung up on us. I therefore inform you that this place is either a very nice place to take a break but that the manager of the establishment absolutely did not understand what welcome and respect towards his customers meant. We regret this situation and have decided to cancel all our visits to this ski area. What a pity.

The boss wrongly accused us of having brought ovomaltine muffins on a picnic (as if they were forbidden), even though he sells them in his restaurant. A place to have lunch. There is a restaurant, a cafe, a buffet and a place to have lunch in a specially arranged place. A tip, at the top of Les Chaux, take food and a large thermos of mulled wine or chai. Behind the restaurant is a place specially designed for families, where you can dine.

A boss with questionable hygiene is an unparalleled bitterness, a huge lack of respect

We arrived and placed an order in this restaurant only to be released by the owner after 10 minutes because one of our friends had brought back a bottle of Evian without consuming it. Ashamed ! The boss was threatening and yelling at us, shouting “Get out! » as we were leaving. Good luck understanding what he said with his mediocre French and refusing to calmly explain to us what was going on. Some customers wanted to help us, unfortunately insufficient to stop this aggressive bull. In short, change restaurants and don’t bring Evian water 🤷‍♂️

Kicked out of the restaurant by the boss himself, not without insulting us. As justification, the fact that a friend of mine had a bottle of Evian which did not come from the restaurant while we all (4 other friends) consumed it. Impossible to make people listen to reason, the offensive boss fired us by creating a bad overall atmosphere within the restaurant for the other customers. Ashamed…

Not very good. Blah fries, very floury, industrial nuggets and not very good. Expensive for what it is. Top location, magnificent view and clean toilets which is a plus.

20 minute wait to take order. 40 minutes to receive our order. Poor organisation. Before I had fun coming but since there is a new boss I don't think I'll come back. The dishes were good and generous. The map is very limited. The waiter wanted to offer us coffee but we refused because we were going skiing!

Very disappointing and would rather give -5 stars. We were having a nice meal on the terrace, the owner (I think) came towards us very aggressively and threateningly because one of us had brought his own sandwich. The rest of the group had bought a whole meal. The man continued to shout and came menacingly close. Very bad experience. Absolutely not recommended.

Nice places, good music. But hygiene is really limited! I take an ovomaltine and inside I find a piece of tomato or pepper, I didn't taste it... super crap. The fries don't tempt you. And the toilets... You have to be courageous... It must be said that with the number of people who eat at Gipsy, there is only 1 toilet in working order among the men. So take courage!

So nice to see Gipsy relocating here from Les Diablerets and back in the mountains! Isenau is much missed, but at least we can get a taste of it now in Les Chaux.

good piste cuisine and warm welcome

I clearly don't want to give more than 1 star even if the food is good. The boss is bitter and aggressive. There were 4 of us at 11am, waiting for the self-service restaurant to open because we wanted to order, 2 of us bought a hot drink and took a sandwich out of their bag while waiting for it to open. A man arrived, yelled at us, I was hallucinating!!!! We told him that we had not seen any communication about the picnic ban and he threatened us while continuing to scream. It was snowing so much that we stayed to eat after putting away the 2 sandwiches. At the end a waitress came to clear us out and apologized for her boss's attitude. A shame!!!! I definitely won't go back there.

What a pity. A magnificent place and a once very good restaurant, (re) taken hostage by an execrable boss and catastrophic management. - 2 different queues for the dishes, and when we told the boss that it was not practical, I was insulted. - an endless queue between the moment you receive your dish and you go to the checkout, as a result everything is cold despite the bells when you finally arrive at your table. Before, we ordered at the self-service restaurant, paid and received our hot dishes directly at the table (like McDonald's does today) - more rösti, more mushroom crust, etc. - plain pasta at 15fr - the same dishes in the restaurant as in the self-service restaurant - more herb salt on the fries, the little twist that gave frozen fries a flavor at the time. - fewer tables, both inside and outside - music that is too loud. In short, I hope this management packs up and finally frees this magnificent place that they do not deserve. Friendly staff. Too bad.

Nice view but really exaggerated prices.

The place is ideally located with a magnificent view of Bretaye and the plain. The terrace is quite large and sunny. The self-service restaurant is OK but the quality of the menus is not exceptional and a little expensive. 8 francs a plate of fries and you still have to pay for the ketchup on top of that.

The place is pleasant and warm. Sunny terrace with a beautiful open view. Small picnic area, always practical. I went there on a Monday at the start of the ski season, outside of holidays. I took a plate of veal sausage / fries which was really not great for the price (20.-). The sausage was relatively small and the onion sauce was more like a broth than anything else. The worst were the fries, which were left over from lots of little bits that had ALREADY been fried. The cook just put everything back in the oil and the result: completely crunchy, dry fries with a taste of old oil. not great… I give 2 stars for that. Maybe there isn't enough turnover yet to have fresh fries coming out regularly?

Magnificent place. Top food and staff. Local and homemade products (pastries, fries, etc.) The boss knows how to welcome you... To visit in summer and winter.

We ate lunch and dinner for 5 days (we took walks around this magical place) the boss Daniel is empathetic. Don't hesitate to go see the customer and discuss. The exchange is real and very interesting. The waitresses are very professional and friendly. The dishes served are made up of local products (the cheese shop is next to the restaurant) we ate fondue of course, a delight, and Daniel is happy to explain how to eat it. The wine served is from the region. I come from Languedoc (and very picky about this elixir.... Ah yes. I am very greedy, the cook has very good knowledge of pastry 👍👍Nothing to say perfect. The prices are correct. The view is incredible especially at sunset sunshine. Of course I recommend this place and I can't wait to go back. Andrew. The king's grain

Bad, this restaurateur doesn't know what the word "restaurant service" means, he serves these products mainly in disposable containers (plastic cup of all kinds, soup plate, etc.) very regrettable and not responsible in 2022.

Very bad experience, don't go there. I gave 1 star because there is nothing less. I'm going to make my order: 1 burger, 1 plate of fries, 1 beer and a glass of water. He tells me he has no water. I ask him what he does the dishes with, he tells me tap water, I tell him very good, give me a glass... And then he tells me that he doesn't give water. Taken aback, I'm ready to buy 30CHF of drinks from him anyway, he tells me that if I want water I just have to take a cup and go fill it in the toilet...... Beautiful mountain restaurant with a wonderful sun terrace. Good cuisine with attentive service. Very strict Covid control... it has to be! Otherwise highly recommended.

Good news for the lucky skiers/hikers in the Villars-Gryon-Diablerets area: Upon arrival of the Chaux gondola, the restaurant & self-service becomes (finally) a recommended stopover. You are welcomed extremely warmly at “Chez Gipsy” where the dynamic team works to satisfy you. The icing on the (good) cake is that Daniel, the manager, chose to work with producers from Gryon who supply the cheese, bread and milk. Well done !!

Trying their best with Covid restrictions

Terrace with great views. Self service solved very inefficiently, only 1 checkout open despite a lot of traffic. Food is cold until you can pay. This should be better solved in high season. Price-performance at the upper limit.

The terrace is wonderful, the view is fantastic. The selection on the map is clear. Price-performance is not always right. Tea for 3.80 CHF is completely appropriate. Tarte aux pommes for 7.00 CHF was not right at all. The staff a bit inattentive.
