This is the restaurant I chose on my last day in Montreux and the last day of my trip to Switzerland! Personally, I was happy with my time in Montreux, and it was a good restaurant that I chose for my last stop. The store owner and all the staff were really friendly and welcomed me in a pleasant way, so I tried to get a small size but ended up getting a large size haha. We were given salad and bread before the main menu, and the recommended wine was also delicious. And the meat was really soft, so I didn't regret ordering a large size at all 👍👍 Next time I come to Montreux, this is a store I will visit again without delay. For this kind of food at Swiss prices... it was a truly excellent choice. I liked the atmosphere of the store because it was so cozy!! Special thanks for the friendly service💜 I think I can leave Switzerland looking forward to seeing you again in the future. thank you!

We stopped in on the day we arrived to Europe and honestly had no idea what to expect. We absolutely loved our steaks and still crave them. My husband even jokes about flying into Geneva just to get another one (I wish!!) It was about 45CHF per person, which honestly seemed expensive at first, but after spending another 10 days traveling through Switzerland, Germany, and Italy, 30-50CHF or € depending on the area is what you typically would pay for any sit-down restaurant. This was by far our top meal. Highly recommend and hope to be back someday 😄

One of the best steak I’ve ever had - not just in Montreux, in Switzerland, or in Europe - in the world. And I’ve been to many acclaimed steakhouses in North America, Italy, the U.K, Japan, Korea, and so on. Chez John’s steak is clean-tasting, sweet, and lean but also tender to a fault. I am usually a fan of fattier cuts but if all lean beef tasted like that I’d be a convert! The hot stone the steak comes on ensures that your meat is never cold but the steak also develops a crust slowly throughout your meal - ingenious! And the fries and sauces - don’t even get me started! There’s a lot of thought and heart that went into creating the sauces that accompanied the meal. A luscious herb butter, three types of aioli-esque dips with curry, herbs, or tomato & cocktail sauce. Though the beef is already perfect on its own, the sauces make the meal so much more interesting! And the fries are absolutely perfection. Simple, crispy, well salted (feels like double fried fries). Last but not least, chef and owner John is a kind, friendly, and welcoming host. It was a real pleasure visiting his phenomenal steakhouse, extremely underrated for what it is. For visitors going to Chillón Castle or the Queen Experience Studio, this is close enough and a must visit in my opinion. You will not regret it!

TO FLEE!!! The meats are not that exceptional…Lower WEIGHT…the pieces seem smaller than promised…! The boss makes a spectacle of himself during the meal and is too curious!

This is the best place to eat meat!!!! The cook John is one of the best in the world!! You pay 45 francs.- and you have a beef steak the size of a city with excellent sauces and incredible fries!!! This place is beautiful, come see for yourself!!!!!

Good food but the boss's behavior borders on mistreatment with his young employees (also noted by the other customers present)... For this simple and good reason, we will not come back!

Without exaggerating or exaggerating, this is one of the coolest restaurants I've visited considering the wonderful decor and the fact that they served the meat on an incredibly hot block of stone which made the meat completely clear and kept it warm. The staff were very nice and service-oriented and immediately started to speak English with us when the waitress understood that we did not speak French. Incredibly clean and fresh throughout the restaurant. The food was really world class, it was so good and I got an incredible amount of food on my plate. Good prices on the various options that were available. I can really warmly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Went here for dinner with a friend we got a glass of Pinot noir per chef John and fondue! Both were so good, the fondue was a great comfort meal and everyone was very friendly! Would go again!!

The Pave steak natural was the best steak I’ve tasted. Very high quality. It’s served very rare but sizzling on a very hot and thick metal plate so you can adjust exactly how cooked you want it. From rare to well done. Chez John paired it with a nice red wine.

Oh my goodness, if you’re coming to Montreux, DO NOT MISS THIS RESTAURANT! It’s worth every penny for an excellent meal and excellent service! John is super friendly and he took his time explaining the entire menu to us Americans that couldn’t read any of it. Lol Then when the steak came we couldn’t believe how tender and amazing it was! Our only regret is that we leave Montreux tomorrow or else we’d eat there two nights in a row it was so good and reasonably priced for all the food that you get. Wow! I would give it 10 stars if I could. PS you do cook your own steak on a slate stone so you can’t go wrong with how rare/well you like your steak.

John serves steak on hot stone. He is quite welcoming. The meat quality is really good. His restaurant deserves such a high rating. My portion was 450gr of Cerf fillet plus 450gr of beef fillet. It comes with a green salad as starter and french fries, baked potato and veggies as side dish. Overall, I have doubt any other steak house in Switzerland can beat value to money of Chez John.

I had the best steak in Switzerland… so creamy, so soft, meat is very fresh… and staff extremely nice, the brought me a huge portion. Totally deserve the high rating! ✌️

I can’t recommend enough to visit this place. We tried The Pavé de bœuf Pro Natura, and I seriously think it’s the best steak I’ve ever tried in my life. Hats off to the staff, exceeded all expectations!

It is not uncommon to be disappointed by most Swiss restaurants... too high prices, small portions, poor value for money..... But yesterday, we discovered this restaurant which is truly a rare gem. Exceptional quality, good service, more than generous portions, good wine... The generosity is felt in the atmosphere and we appreciate it very much. Thank you so much.

Family place where the quality of the food is very good. You can taste the dish of the day for a good price, knowing that prices for eating in Switzerland are high.

I chose this restaurant because we are looking for a steak restaurant and this place have the highest rating in the area, so we decided to go for it and that was one of the best decision that we made in our trip. the food was delicious we try the beef steak the standard one and the premium one (sorry I forget the name haha) we also order the kids meal for my little one, for the wine was also perfect we order the Chile wine by glass. The steak is so tender the taste comes from the meat itself, it is served in hotplate so you can decide how cooked it is, the sauces (there are four types) is optional dare I say. the steak is already so juicy and delicious by itself. Sorry we are not fluent in French so it took some time for us to order haha, John keep on helping us while he was cooking in the kitchen (we are the Indonesian with one boy if you remember). this restaurant is loved by the locals we can felt it; when we were there all the tables are occupied and all were having a great time. for our next trip to Switzerland for sure we will visit again. hopefully I can speak a little French by that time haha. for you all that visit Montreux you must try this restaurant, especially if you like steak; the price is actually the on par with Jakarta fancy steak restaurant, but you get better taste and quality here I can guarantee.

John is very welcoming and created a great experience for us. He guided us through the wine and meat options to help us decide. The quality of the meat was great and having it served seared on a hot plate made it interactive and meant we could choose the level of cooking. Would return and recommend.

The place is simple but warm, the team takes great care, the menu is not very extensive and that is precisely a guarantee of freshness! The quality is really excellent, as are the quantities! If you come out and you're still hungry, there's a problem. Bottles of wine have never disappointed me I recommend booking in advance though. And if you don't know what to get, the bison steak on slate is famous

We has an absolutely amazing experience. Both Chez John and Amelia were very entertaining, friendly, and caring hosts. The food, desserts, and wine were perfect and prices were more than fair for Swiss standards. Easily the best dining experience weve had on a 17-day Eurotrip. Absolutely recommend this place!!!

John is a character who speaks so fast it is difficult to keep up. But he cooks well and the portions are generous. The shrimp was very fresh and the curry tasty. Disappointed that there were no mussels and John explained that calling a day in advance was necessary for mussels. The restaurant is off the beaten path but accessible by bus. All the wines are priced the same, which is unique and fun, but if you are fussy you need to know what to order. We tried some that was tasty, but some not.

At John's. A very pleasant surprise. It was excellent (XL paving stone on slate) carnivores will love it! The boss is great, teases you, talks to you and yes it's rather rare, and entertains the gallery a little. We had a great evening. The concept of wine at the same price I had never seen...
