China Garden in Zermatt

We are family of five went for dinner on 30.03.24. We ordered Crispy Pork with Caramel Sauce, Crispy Chicken with Pineapple with sweet and sour sauce, Stewed Pork Tonge, Mapo Tofu, Green Bean sauteed with minced beef, steamed rice, and fried noodle. They are all delicately prepared and truly delicious, except fried noodle that slight too bland. Service and restaurant atmosphere are lovely and nice for family dinner. Highly recommended this restaurant if you look for premium and fine dining Chinese restaurant. 👍👍

I'm excited! Almost every menu can also be ordered as a gluten-free version. For me as a celiac sufferer it was a feast. Thank you for the friendly service and at an absolutely fair price! We'll come back and bring friends with us.

The ambience is wonderful, the service is slightly undercooled, the Mongolian lamb we ordered (extra spicy with special request) was rich and tasted excellent. We also tried some starters - very tasty. We were bothered by the minimum order value, which we will certainly always exceed, because of the business policy it expresses - which is also clearly evident with the non-transparent pricing (all supplements cost extra, which is only pointed out when ordering) and the excessive wine prices, even for Zermatt becomes.

I've been disappointed with many Chinese restaurants in Switzerland, but I didn't expect to be able to eat such authentic Chinese food in this tourist resort! Tomato scrambled eggs, oyster sauce beef, stir-fried vegetables, crispy duck, tofu...not overly seasoned, you can taste the taste of my mother in my hometown, very homely taste. I am very grateful to be able to taste such delicious food in a foreign land!

The ambience is nice. The wait staff excellent. We have the Peking Ravioli, don't recommend it. The crispy duck was dry and overcooked. It was expensive for such a disappointment.

This restaurant was wonderful; the food, service and atmosphere. The bad reviews they have are unwarranted or one off experiences. We had an incredible dinner here and tried several dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for great Chinese food in Zermatt.

We were late for an hour, the owner didnt even let us explain the circumstances and brushed us off and asked us to leave the restaurant with a condescending tone… very rude and unprofessional.

It sucks, it really sucks, the service is so bad, it’s really outrageous for a Chinese to be educated by a foreigner in a Chinese restaurant. The foreign waiter had a very bad attitude, he looked condescending, and he was really drunk. It tastes bad, don't go there, really, don't be upset if you eat something.

Very fine food, extremely friendly service. Price performance is right

I and my friend recently visited this restaurant. We tried to order kung pao chicken, a soup, and a rice. We intentionally kept our order modest as we weren’t very hungry and wanted to avoid food wastage. To our surprise and disappointment, our waiter refused to serve us on the basis of our order being too small. This is completely unacceptable and frankly, absurd. At no point were we informed of any minimum order requirement. Such a policy, if it exists, is not only unreasonable but was also communicated in the most disrespectful manner. This incident reflects poorly on their understanding of customer service. Refusing service to customers based on the quantity of their order is not just bad business practice; it’s downright insulting. It ruined our evening and left us with a very negative impression of the restaurant.

The rudest Chinese people I ever seen in the world. There were over 10 table open they would not seat us and asked for reservation. Please don't come to this place.

Authentic asian food. The food warmer in our table was not lit compared to the other diners' table. Out of curiosity, I asked the waitress why. She said, it is only for locals who takes longer to eat. ( quite discriminatory) Customer service attitude of the waitress can be improved as well. Hopefully, they will just do it for everyone and not to be subjective with the customer's race, moving forward. Not to mention it's a Chinese restaurant so they should also give the same service and attitude towards asian diners. Take note, nothing is cheap in Switzerland especially their bowl of rice which costs 5CHF. 😅

I’m a group of Thai family looking for a restaurant in Zermatt. I saw this restaurant with a 3.8 stars which normally, I would prefer the place to visit with more than 4stars but I’ve to admit that this restaurant is a lot better than I expected. The food was great and the service was above normal standard. We ordered their lunch menu and some of the chicken and sour dish and it was great.

Authentic Chinese food in the heart of Zermatt

Found this gem of a Chinese restaurant just off the main street in Zermatt. Ordered (1) steamed ravioli filled with prawns & chanterelles, (2) crispy fried duck with five-spice sauce and (3) fried rice. The duck was amazing and as expected, crispy and succulent. It was a pleasant and warm evening outdoors, with service a little lacking in following through orders, which they were very apologetic about. Despite that, the crispy duck was absolutely the highlight.

I read the reviews on Xiaohongshu. I ordered 3 dishes, fish-flavored tofu, steamed fish, and Shanghai greens. Two staple foods: chicken dumplings with mushrooms in oil and fried rice noodles. Apart from steaming fish, nothing else is really good. The portions are small, the vegetables are not crispy, the tofu is not suitable for rice, and the dumpling skins are thin and the fillings are not tasty. Then the service was extremely poor, the waiters often ignored you, and we kept raising our hands🙋‍♀️They just pretended not to see us and disappeared, so we were so angry. Infuriating, not recommended! Not as good as that Thai restaurant.

I ate here yesterday. I went there because I was bored with Western food. We received a recommendation from our local guide. There was a language problem, so we couldn't order quickly, and we used Google Translator to communicate, so I guess they thought our group couldn't understand. stupid guys! He said. I ordered 3 dishes. 4 types of food were served I did all the calculations and left. I was quite displeased and angry, but Even this could not be voted on due to language limitations. If the restaurant owner sees this, What would you say?

Today I went there for a quick lunch. The food was fresh and very warm until the end. Delicious! The service was attentive and very friendly. The ambience was wonderful. Even though I was stressed because of the time pressure, I was able to relax and enjoy the delicious food! Thank you☺️

The minimum consumption per person is 30 Swiss francs, and it is 60 Swiss francs for two people. It is advertised as a Chinese restaurant, but the waiter cannot speak Chinese. What is the reason?

One of the worst waiter I’ve faced in Switzerland. Bad expression bad attitude bad in recommending food. Not really expecting this kind of attitude of the server from this price range and this country.

Have offsets (be prepared to be forced to sell) Staple food (palm-sized fried rice, bland taste) As mentioned in the review, I wonder if there are some heaters based on race? ! The lighting is too dim and I saw some customers using their mobile phones to take pictures of the menu.

Make sure you come here when your stomach empty and READY to order alot. We came here at 5pm to make reservation at 7pm and no one told us there is a minimum order. After we sit down and order several dishes they told me its not enough and need to order another at least 3 portion (we are family with 2 adult and 2 child) and how we can finish this food? They showed us the printing at their wall, and told us its written there. Really bad attitude!

The service is perfect and the staff is so friendly

We order two dishes, one is the garlic sauce pork, which is okay to me. The other one is the sweet and sour ribs, and I think something is wrong with it, because when it's served, it looks totally dark. Not so sure if this is normally the case, but when I cook it myself, it won't look like this. There is a group of tourists coming while we were having dinner, so they are extremely busy. And we were told that they kind of have similar size of group of tourists everyday. Note that the tap water is not free -- 5 fr, but if you order any drink then the tap water is free. A bowl of rice is 5 fr. as well. I understand that food in Switzerland is expensive, but I still have to say oh wow.

We ate here tonight and it was absolutely excellent food and top notch service, start to finish. Definitely one of the most welcoming restaurants we’ve been to in Zermatt also! Very friendly staff and cool decor/atmosphere.

Great value. Lovely atmosphere. Food was delicious and service was welcoming and attentive. The Tom Yum was nice, and the chicken Gong Bao and beans with garlic were very flavourful. Dinner for 2 with sparkling mineral water for 58CHF was very reasonable for Zermatt. Highly recommend

food taste awfully bad. Overpriced. Charge double price for steam rice compared to other place in Swiss. The fried rice is definitely not the fried rice. Asked for free water but serve water cost 8 CHF and refuse to take back.

Portion sizes are small if ordering alacarte. Dumplings are laughable, veg noodles/ egg fried rice- flavourless. Too much soya sauce in some and too little in some. For set menu- dessert is a slab of icecream ( bewildering for a chinese restaurant). Best avoided.

Nice food and tea, kind staff, good ambience. During my trip, I had stomach problems from eating Western food every day, but the jasmine tea was delicious and the food was mildly seasoned, making me very satisfied. I was frightened when I went there because there was a big difference in Google Map ratings, but the staff kindly responded to my poor English. However, the mutton cutlets were really difficult to cut and I laughed. Reservations can be made from the restaurant's website. I arrived about 10 minutes early, but it was empty so I was allowed to choose my seat. When I was unsure of what to order as I was not used to it, she made sure to bring me a drink first. However, there is no single dessert item. Dessert is probably the only course.

I went in at 6pm when the restaurant opened and asked for takeout. I was rudely told there was no takeout since the place was busy. The place was half full. I was very disappointed.

This restaurant is heavily under rated. My wife and I had a lunch at China Garden today. Since we did not have a lot of time so we went for menu 1 and menu 2 in its Today’s Menu. Each includes a soup, a dish, a bowl of vegetable rice and a coffee. We were happily surprised with the food quality. We both agree the 鱼香肉丝 （hot and sour pork with garlic ) and 京葱羊肉(fried lamb with ginger and garlic) were the best among we ever tasted. The soup and the 京味炒饭（vegetable rice) were all great. They simply made such ordinary dishes excellent. The coffee was freshly ground. I also command the service. The price is very reasonable. I am giving it a 5 star. Next time I come to Zermatt, I will go there for dinner.

Charge you CHF5 for tap water then card machine not working. Suggest better to go MacDonald down the road.

I came here with my friend at 1pm. Every single staff at this place seemed so unpatient. I can understand the restaurant can get busy sometimes, but keeping saying no and showing no patience is not the way to treat your customers. Whoever runs this place should give a proper training to your employees.

Great food with nice ambience. My friend and I ordered a chicken with cashew and bok choi with mushroom, which were delicious, complemented with white rice and vermicelli with soy sauce. Service was very fast and the food arrived piping hot.

It's located in the square behind Hotel Derby on Bahnhofstrasse, and next door is a steakhouse (the entrance is the same). There are many customers during the high season of summer and winter, so it is better to make a reservation. This is the only authentic Chinese restaurant in Zermatt with an extensive menu, so it is popular not only with Asians but also with Westerners. My family doesn't eat much, so we can't finish the course meal. Even with a la carte, each person can't finish all the main dishes, so you can either have one soup, one main dish, and one fried rice, or you can have one spring roll, three types of dim sum, one main dish, and fried noodles ( If you share a portion (beef) between two people, it will be enough. Foreigners seem to have no qualms about leaving food behind. The menu says in Japanese that you should order at least 25CHF per person, but with beer and wine, it ended up being over 50CHF for two people.

Beautiful location, good and personal service, pleasant atmosphere, very good Chinese menu, the food was of excellent quality. We chose lamb and veal liver. Both were well seasoned and very tasty. We recommend.

Worst experience in Switzerland. The staff is so unprofessional and rude.

Craving for Chinese food and hence went ahead even seeing mixed reviews. Staffs are alright (no feeling of rude or racist), foods are of decent standard (the beef was salty the rest were quite good). Quite a good place if you crave for Chinese food.

In term of presentation and food quality, I will have to say that this restaurant is definitely worth to dine in. We went for dinner and took menu set B and portion was decent for 4 paxs although we order a 3 paxs portion. Even the desserts was very nicely presented that improve the overall experience.

To find delicious authentic Chinese food in the Swiss Alps is a rarity. Chef Chen and the Kitchen Team do an incredible job. Menu highlights include the Mongolian Lamb, Steamed Trout, Mapo Tofu, Pork Belly with Ginger, Szechuan Beef, and the spicy beans with beef, gong bao asparagus! Service is friendly and accommodating, and the dining style is very high-class with fabric napkins & tablecloths, wonderful wine card and the lychee apero is hard to beat.

I am pleasantly surprised to find an authentic Chinese restaurant in Zermatt, with nice traditional Chinese decorations. “Hun Tun” soup with ravioli, seaweed soup with egg flowers, fried lamb with ginger and leek, dry fried green beans, … real authentic Chinese food, very delicious.

The food was great and delicious. I suggest you make a booking if you want to go for dinner as they are busy everyday. We couldn’t get a table for dinner so we take away. The waitress Anna Marie was very nice and friendly and efficient. We went back for lunch the next day and the waiter was also very nice and friendly. 5 stars for this place because of their good foods and great service.

We got to the restaurant a little early yesterday. After a long hike, we were very happy that we were able to sit and study the map. We had menu A, which included predefined starters, main courses and a dessert of your choice. All of the dishes were excellent. We cannot agree with negative statements made by certain predecessors. Neither the food quality nor the price/performance ratio. Switzerland is an expensive country - tourist destinations anyway. If you don't know this, you should take a closer look at the books before you enter the country. For a menu consisting of: soup, spring rolls, chicken, duck, pork, fried rice and a dessert, which cost CHF 65 per person, the question now is the definition of "expensive". Absolutely ok for us and especially when you consider the quality of the food. Big recommendation! PS: We have never eaten duck in our lives that wasn't dry. Therefore 5* +!

I stayed in Zermatt for 3 nights and I had the best experience in China garden. Food was delicious and our hostess (Janka) was very helpful in suggesting the menu and Anne Marie suggested very nice wine. I would 100 percent suggest this restaurant.

It's rare to encounter such authentic Chinese food in a foreign country. Aside from being *repeatedly* told we shouldn't walk in without a reservation, the reception from foreigners was ok.

We went there for lunch. We choose a set menu C. The set is 65 chf for 2 persons. However we were told to order 2 sets for 2 person. The total bill was 65x2=130.00 which we feel we were cheated. The portions is huge and what a waste we could not finish it. This restaurant cheated us

Very authentic Chinese food. The sweet and sour pork is 1 of e best I had in any country. The tofu egg drop soup warms us after a cold day up in the mountains. Rice was abit hard but I prefer my rice fluffier so could be personal preference. We were e first customers in the restaurant hence our food came very fast. From time of ordering to getting the bill was 30 min. We were very happy with the food and prompt service. Strongly recommends this place.

We originally thought that it would be difficult to find delicious Chinese food here, but it turned out that we had a great time eating at this restaurant. The food was large, and the waiters were very nice and considerate ❤ The desserts the person in charge helped us choose were also delicious! ! 😍😍

Disappointing! The spareribs so praised consisted entirely of bones, with no meat on them. The consistency of the Chicken Gong Bao was indefinably soft and not recognizable as chicken meat.

The waitress was rude and whole staff is just rude. Very bad experience. Food was horrible.

Good Chinese restaurant in Zermatt. If you are looking for some Asian food after a hike try this location.

I can’t believe that this asian restaurant discriminates against Asians (Maybe because the boss is not Asian?) The service was bad and the guy server discriminates seating according to clothing/age. There was also no mention of a minimum order of 25CHF until we ordered. Another customer (Westerner) was allowed in without reservation while we were seated outside. Furthermore, their menu is misleading. Their ‘fried rice’ in Japanese, Chinese and Korean is not fried rice. It is just rice mixed with vegetables (as stated snidely by the server). We left without ordering due to extremely bad service. There are better local restaurants with better service that deserve holiday makers’ patronage. I would give 0 stars if google allows it. DO NOT GO BACK. 服务态度差劲了。食物又贵-也对亚裔人有偏见。令人感到不愉快的餐厅。

The Chinese food here is legit, even better than some Chinese restaurants back in Singapore. We ordered the Szechuan beef (best with rice), Shanghai Pakchoy with mushrooms (crunchy & well seasoned), hot & sour soup (so good & comforting!) & the soya sauce noodles. So good, it hit the spot & the service was great too!

So grateful to my dear husband for the discovery of this amazing restaurant in the télécabine in Zermat ! Immediately booked the last place for dinner , wow my real vocation started now… and came again the next day for lunch for sure .Food are really extremely good, Service very friendly , I even got a kind reminder that your order is already a lot , try like this and order more if still hungry 😋. Finally I finished take alway 3 more for dinner bcoz we are leaving… will definitely come more often ! Many thanks to all the staff !💪💪💪

We went in with modest expectations given the mixed reviews but we wanted something different after all the Italian and Swiss food we'd had. We came out very satisfied. The wait staff were very friendly and prompt and we enjoyed every dish we ordered, including the garlic crispy duck, the glazed ribs, the garlic bok choy and the crispy sea bass. Prices were on the high side for typical Chinese food, but that seems to be the case for every restaurant in Zermatt.

We dined there with big group once , was ok. Wanted to try take out, to see if it was better. But no succes. They say they have take out, but when going there, it is always disappointing with the same story: sorry kitchen has no time even for one meal for one person. Three times is a charm, we will never go there again.

One star review because the guy greeting me was a total jerk. Typical “you tourists are below us” attitude. Lose it. Food also overpriced and average at best. Zermatt is full of better options. Do better guys.
