Dampfzentrale Bern in Bern

We have been coming here for years, and we are never disappointed. Very good home cooking, simple and fresh. Welcoming staff and very clean restaurant. Excellent value for money!

Maybe the Dampfzentrale no longer needs to take care of customers as guests. Nobody felt responsible for us that day, despite repeated attempts to draw attention to us. Some of them worked in service. In the end, the presumed head of service was quite disgruntled and unprofessional, especially if you work in the customer area yourself. Next time we will definitely walk PAST the steam center. According to feedback from friends, everything was experienced. The feedback had to be there.

Yesterday we ate at our team event (approx. 35 people) in the restaurant. I ordered the dish: chicken breast saltimbocca with red wine sauce, butternut squash and bramata polenta. The plate was beautifully presented and the pumpkin and polenta were tasty. But instead of two chicken breasts, I (and others) were served pork - I don't think that's possible! Unfortunately I didn't get an answer when I asked... It would be fair to inform customers about this in advance. The starter (salad) and dessert (chocolate mousse, panna cotta) were excellent. Very nice restaurant super close to the river. You can literally jump into the water as you can see in the video. Very nice staff and the ambient in the terrace is amazing. I cannot talk about the price as I was there with a company event.

We ate here with our business and I have to say that I only liked the starter, the salad, of everything. Unfortunately, the dessert was far too chocolate-heavy after a large salad and a large main course. The meat we were served was still very bloody. And by very bloody I mean really bloody. Unfortunately I will no longer eat here for these reasons. And do not recommend this restaurant.

We had the vegetarian Burger and I have to honestly say this was the most unsatisfying Dinner I have had in years. The bread was old, I could barely chew, the Seitan was baldy prepared and the sauce was something I would not even call a sauce. Apart from the bad food, the noise of the workers in the background slamming the dishes, in an extreme hurry to leave, it was very disturbing for the whole family. I brought my boyfriend from Canada in hope to show him some great Swiss food, but it was a bad impression for sure. This place makes Mc Donalds seem like a Michelin Restaurant. Never again.

The food and wine are really very fine and of high quality, the prices are probably on the upper level. The service staff is also very friendly and accommodating, only at the beginning the head of service treated us very unfriendly because we had allowed ourselves to sit at an unreserved table. That's not possible and you should kindly wait like everyone else until you get a table assigned, very arrogant especially at 9 p.m. on a weekday... Which is also not ok, normal tap water is charged 3 CHF!!!! That's really wrong, especially when you're drinking for almost CHF 80. A pity Addendum 11/14/23 I recently celebrated my birthday in the Dampfzentrale restaurant with 11 guests. As always, the food was excellent and the service was very friendly and committed. What bothered me a bit was that no one from the restaurant congratulated me on my birthday and I know from other places that when you organize a party like this you also receive a small gift from the restaurant as a thank you, such as offering grappa with coffee or something similar - very It's a shame I'll probably celebrate my next birthday somewhere else.

If you are black or a non-white person I do not recommend this restaurant. I have just suffered an act from which I cannot recover. Arriving first, I had the honor of seeing the waiters take care of the other customers before me. No one offered me a drink but the customers who arrived after me were received with glasses of water while I waited for my order to be taken. Another table had their coffees served while I was still waiting for someone to come take my order or, at a pinch, ask me what I wanted to drink, since I was their first customer.

Too expensive, few offers for families

We ate venison cordon bleu. The deer meat was very bland, sometimes quite tough and the cheese was missing. The red wine pear listed on the menu was also missing! Unfortunately very disappointing.

We reserved a table inside as we were a group of 6 adults and 4 children. The welcome was very warm and child-friendly. The food was very tasty and well prepared. The tiramisu is world class ;) There were two children's meals to choose from for the children (fries with chicken nuggets & spaghetti with tomato sauce). We felt extremely comfortable and despite the fact that all the tables inside were occupied, all the waitresses were always friendly and “outwardly” not stressed. Very pleasant atmosphere, we will definitely come back!

I can still remember the first time I visited Switzerland with my Dutch family. My father rented a houseboat with which we tried to sail up the Aare. We saw various cities and were able to see some beautiful spots in Switzerland. But the end of our tour was a big shock. My father had heard from an old college friend that there was a very well-known place in Bern Bathing exists. So he wanted to give our family a great experience at the end of the vacation and took the ship to Marzilli. Unfortunately, his fellow student didn't tell him that the river is mainly used downstream. The accident occurred shortly before the Dampfzentrale restaurant. Our houseboat capsized after a head-on collision with a water unicorn. My brother and I were desperate because we couldn't swim very well yet. The friendly staff at the restaurant came to our aid. Using lifebuoys, the staff managed to get our entire family ashore. To help us digest this shock, the staff invited us to a delicious lunch menu. Since that day, our family has met once a year in the Dampfzentrale. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the view from the outside terrace is fantastic. PS: It was our last trip on the houseboat. my father was allowed to spend the next 8 years paying off the damage

The food is wonderful, the toilet requires a very good sense of direction.

Sitting outside when the weather is good is a must. To get such a beautiful view of the Aare - wonderful. I only had a soft drink, so I can't comment on the food.

Very charming beer garden on the Aare. Unfortunately, I only have small things to eat. Unfortunately, ordering via the website was not as easy as claimed: - the waitresses didn't know the WiFi password - entering the payment details was not so user-friendly. - some orders were forgotten even though they had already been paid for online.

If you are bothered by the fact that bathers from the Marzili in swimming trunks or bathing suits walk past 1m next to the outermost tables on their way to the Eichholz, the steam center is not suitable for you. For anyone who wants to eat well on a summer evening on the Aare and appreciates friendly service, it is one of the best restaurants in Bern.

Sitting by the river, enjoying a cold beer on a warm evening. It is a nice location, once you get there. They have a smoker and have a daily menu of food prepared in it. Food portions are reasonably big and prices typically Swiss. Overall an enjoyable place with decent food.

Unpleasant welcome despite reservation. Pseudo bohemian cuisine, acceptable nothing more. Service = pushing consumption. Given the very limited choice of non-alcoholic drinks, we opt for water: 3.- per person! The establishment clearly abuses its location (riverside) and its former reputation which is now obsolete.

Delicious food and friendly staff, as well as the location directly on the Bernese Aare, invite you to visit. Particularly in the summertime it can be very busy, which is why a reservation is necessary.

The waiter was very rude, the overall service was not great, and when paying, he did not want us to pay per person. But only one person pays the bill of 720.- for a number of 17 guests. We immediately refused and each paid their share. He made it very clear to us that he wanted to return home.

Wonderful restaurant right on the Aare. I recommend reserving a table. We spent a wonderful evening with good food (spaghetti with pulpo and pike perch with white wine risotto) and were served very attentively and friendly. Gladly again at any time!

A cool restaurant in a beautiful location where we like to stop off. What always surprises us is the grumpy and not very hospitable boss. A smile and a nice hello wouldn't be too much to ask. Due to the ideal location, he obviously doesn't need it, as the “Dampfere” is always well attended anyway. Two guests more or less doesn't matter. A pity !!!

Dear Mr. Rupprecht, with so many negative reviews about the Dampfzentrale and complaints about the quality of the food and the unfriendly staff, I can understand that you no longer have everything under control or lose track of things. For this reason, I am refraining from engaging a lawyer for the time being to have your false statement deleted. It is not true if you claim that I wrote to you in any way or that I "coerced" you. You have not received any letter from me. When we complained, your colleague didn't offer a replacement meal, contrary to what you said, and the meal was charged. Our experience was different to the one you write "nice" in your responses to the reviews. Even our dog didn't want to eat the meat. As many of your former visitors have stated, the prices are disproportionate to the quality and are too high. I'll give you two days to remove your incorrect answer and happily forego a new answer.😏 An apology from you would be appropriate.

I actually know the Dampfzentrale restaurant and I can say that I have liked it so far, especially the ambience and the food. But I have already been treated very unfriendly twice by the service staff because the staff cannot cope with the rush of guests from the swimming pool I understand that the job of a service specialist is not always easy, but I still expect trained and friendly staff who can deal with stressful situations in the summer...

Today we spontaneously went to Dampfzentrale Essen and ordered Cordon Bleu for 44 CHF. This was so bad that we gave it back and expressed our displeasure to the waiter. He didn't even apologize, didn't offer a replacement or made any cost reductions. The hollonaise sauce resembled a yellow hint of water. Instead we received the bill in which the starter had been charged twice. There was no apology here either. We were only told that the waiter didn't book the bill himself. We won't be coming back.

The three of us had lunch at the Dampfzentrale via the driveway. The main courses and the local beers we ordered (with and without alcohol) were very tasty. The outside area is comfortably furnished. The highlight was that the waiter Abu and I knew each other from his previous job in the Basel region and happened to meet again in the Dampfzentrale. That was a joy for both of them! He is super competent, charming with the guests and has a great sense of humor. We'd love to come back! Until then, best wishes to Abu 🙋🏻‍♀️

I went there already a couple of time for lunch and every time the menu and the food were really good. Ingredients are fresh and good, taste never boring, and service professional. A lunch menu costs around 25 CHF and this includes two courses - a soup or seasonal salat and the main meal which can be vegetarian or meat based. Every day they have a different menu.

Test dinner April 23 / group reservation for 18 Persons May 23: Real bad experience! A I invited three friends to test the location Restaurant Dampfzentrale for a planned meeting. (dinner/group of 18 persons/professional context) The four complete menus were o.k., but not extraordinary. Price-performance ratio is not balanced. We had aperitifs, wine, first and second plate, dessert- they did even charge the tap water. B One week later Restaurant Dampfzentrale did contact me to inform us about an accounting error. (As a group reservation was planned on my name, they disposed of our phone number) Obviously, they undercharged our consumption. Did agree to pass by personally to pay the difference of 100.- (resp. 87.- without tip). The responsible lady was able to take the money without any pardon: neither an excuse nor an offered beverage while I was waiting for her. No "Thank you" at all for the extra-way! Nevertheless, I left our group reservation for the next month as it was planned. C Not enough problems with Restaurant Dampfzentrale The day of our meeting, cool and rainy forecast. The restaurant did contact us four (!) hours before our meeting with 18 Persons, that the table in the inner part of the Restaurant- reserved weeks in advance- would not anymore be available! But they could offer our group a table in the garden. In consideration of the bad weather I did not accept this new "fact". Demanded an acceptable solution, our table in the inner part of the Location. The restaurant did not call me back for 2 hours (or did dial the wrong number). So it was me to call them again - to cancel the reservation. Dampfzentrale - never again!

My god the food was amazing. The staff is courteous and attentive. I was surprised by the food but it was a positive surprise! I can only recommend!

Extremely bad service. Families with small children are treated particularly badly and very expensive, really not recommended

The place lives from the name.....and the location. Staff overwhelmed very little hospitality. Ambiance inside very nice. But we were moved into the tent because a group of politicians were registered at the same time and we were only a group of 46 women. In the tent there was a very unpleasant cold draft on my feet and my head was very hot because the heat was distributed unevenly. Unfortunately, previous visits to the restaurant had the same experience with hospitality. Very experienced staff were occasionally top...unfortunately many young service specialists...lack of expertise in customer-friendliness and hospitality. Or depending on the frequency, the resilience. Food was delicious. And highly recommended.

The four of us wanted to have a quick drink at 5:20 p.m. but all the tables were already set for dinner... Even when we asked and said that we would be gone in 30 minutes at the latest because we had an appointment at 6 p.m., they didn't want to serve us. Staff Response: We are fully booked. At this point there were 5-6 guests in the front part of the restaurant and the back was completely empty. I highly doubt that all reservations arrived at the same time at 6:00 p.m.

We had dinner at the Dampfzentrale restaurant. As always, the staff are friendly and there is a bit of fun involved. We had the nut salad with bacon and poached egg as a starter, which was very tasty, although we found the prices for the starters a bit high. The main courses are fairly priced and really tasty and large. Unfortunately it's pretty cool in the restaurant, so we were both cold and I had to tie my scarf around. We wouldn't necessarily come again in winter, as the restaurant really thrives on the beautiful terrace and the proximity to the Aare.

My family and I had lunch at DZ Bern today. The food was great (all dishes including the bread) and the service was top. The waiters and chefs were so cheerful and welcoming... VERY GOOD!!

We had a Christmas aperitif from work there. Of course we went a little overtime - but such a rude dismissal is completely out of place. This is not how you as a bar manager can treat guests. Definitely not recommended for such occasions. After all, the staff is the etiquette of a restaurant.

Never experienced such unfriendly staff. Even though the restaurant wasn't supposed to close for another hour and a half, they didn't want to serve us anymore because they were cleaning up. Every time unfriendly and expensive. Unfortunately good fries :-(

The waitress preferred to talk to her work colleagues rather than serve us. As we were about to leave, she came to ask what we wanted to get. The tone was quite unfriendly. A pity. The ambience is very nice. The offering is good and the food is also appealing.
