Derby in Zermatt

I stayed at the Hotel Derby for the first time with friends and was really impressed! The location is great, so you can walk from the nearby train station to the hotel even with a lot of luggage. Various bars, restaurants and shops are also in the immediate vicinity. So the location is 1a! The rooms have been newly renovated and are totally comfortable and well equipped. And the service was also super friendly, attentive and helpful during our week-long stay. Thoroughly a great experience and definitely recommended!

Last weekend we were guests at the Hotel Derby in idyllic Zermatt. Since the Derby is only a 3-minute walk from the train station, you can get there quickly and in a relaxed manner, even with a lot of luggage and bulky ski equipment. The rooms in the hotel's main and annex buildings have recently been renovated and modernized. We have already stayed in both houses and find all rooms to be very comfortable and well-equipped. The pine wood gives the rooms a rustic but cozy atmosphere that is simply in harmony with Zermatt. We slept well in the beds and felt at home. The entire staff was very motivated and committed and made our stay a lovely one. The food in the restaurant was also very good! As a starter we had the 'Bruschetta Derby', for the main course we chose a 'Cordon Bleu' and the 'Risotto with porcini mushrooms'. The service team - Fernando and Filipe served us that evening - were always attentive and prompt. As a special highlight, Fernando prepared the dessert 'Crêpes Suzette' in front of us on an antique flambé trolley. We have been to Derby a few times now and are looking forward to our next stay. The Derby hotel is perfectly adapted to host schools and students apart from any other client. Giovanni and Christianne are the best hosts, very friendly, always with a smile and exceptional attention to every little detail to make your stay unforgettable. They helped us with everything and provided us with all the necessary information. Breakfast was perfect with lots of choices and the menu is also made for all kinds of tastes, lots of salads, soup, burguers, pasta, fish, meet, etc, and decent price. Rooms: they are very cozy, comfortable, nice and cute with very good views to the mountains or to the main street, some of them have balconies and others large windows. We brought a party of 9 without a reservation. They accommodated us and were nice and efficient with regards to service. The atmosphere was pleasant. Nothing but praise for that piece. Our group thought the food ranged from ok to not so great. Comments of "too salty" and "no flavor" were from the latter view. My lobster bisque was nice, but had only distant traces of lobster. My seafood risotto had one, unpeeled shrimp and a few small chunks of something like clams, perhaps? The carbonara pasta had a few traces of bacon, but generally was just a 25 CHF small plate of fairly bland pasta. The "grilled steak" was 3mm thick, not tender, and salty. We had lasagna at another place in Zermatt and it was tasty, but this one was low on flavor. I really hate to be negative about this place because of the service and atmosphere, but they could rethink their recipes and get better fairly easily.
