The best sushi I've ever had, the evening was a lot of fun, I'd love to come back.

Amazing Omakase, 150 chf pp. Their smily japanese chef composes the dish in front of you: nothing crazy, except for the nigiris it's mostly platting. The tenderness of the fish and meat was on point. The only thing is the service, whose quality is extremely low, especially when compared to the food's. The waiter hardly smiles from the welcoming to the goodbye.

We booked the omakase for two people - the best decision for us personally. The food was excellent and absolutely authentic. The chef Kenichi Arimura doesn't speak any German and only very little English, but he tried extremely hard to explain the courses he prepared to us with great attention to detail. It is very important to arrive at the restaurant on time, as you start eating at the same time as all other guests (max. 8 people). Conclusion: Always happy, absolutely fantastic cuisine & the price/performance ratio is right.

at first , you have a feeling to enter an empty room, kind of a cold feeling , but at the end the nice service and the really great quality of the food make the difference . really enjoyed my dinner there

With the ratings, presentation and prices, one could reasonably expect the heights of Japanese cuisine. Instead, it was a thoroughly mediocre, almost buffet like experience - dumplings didn’t hold together, udon tempura in broth was almost tasteless, and the takeaway lids and condiment containers are not heat stable plastic, so they shrink, warp and release phtalates into the food. Honestly disappointing.

Amazing experience with a very kind chef, my boyfriend and me enjoyed our anniversary today here with the huge variety of freshly prepared sushi and other dishes! Definitely recommend 😍 The dessert was amazing with the soft and chewy mochi

We went for the Omakase and that was an overall fantastic experience. The food was delicious and watching the chef prep it was delightful.

It was pricy but worth the money - the varieties of sushi dishes were prepared with care by a skilled Sushi Chef (not Jiro Ono) that indulged the palate. However, the ambience could be improved.

The best sushi I've ever eaten (especially in Switzerland)! Everything is freshly prepared and of high quality. 5*+ for the chef/sushi master. Unfortunately not a very good rating for the female service. Rather unfriendly and unaccommodating (for the price of the dinner).

Wow! 🤩. Great food, Tokyo as a guest in Zurich. Arimura san is an open, very personable head chef, just like you would imagine a Japanese master of omakase to be. He conjures up one culinary spectacle after another. If you want to experience Kaiseki-class Japanese food - this is it. Very authentic taste, absolutely recommended; For me it is one of the three top Japanese restaurants in Zurich. The young service staff are trying hard and there is still a few meters to go towards perfection. The ambience is classically Japanese, reduced. It can certainly do with more attention to detail; There's a lot going on in some corners - it looks untidy, but the bottom line is that it's fine.

The single photo I’ve taken of that evening would describe how amazing the experience was. I made a reservation for Omakase and I was pleasantly surprised of how great it was for the price. The whole experience lasted around 3 hours during which the chef would freshly prepare each dish and explain to every single customer what it was. I could’ve taken photos of every single dish served, but I preferred to enjoy the experience and also didn’t want to take out my phone out of respect for the chef, who took time to carefully prepare the meal in front of us. I only took a photo of the dessert at the very end, which was a strawberry daifuku with a selection of fruit. I highly recommend to try the Omakase at Edomae. I will definitely return!

Wonderful omakase experience at a very fine price for Zurich. Delicious food, highly recommended

I had a high expectation after seeing the review. Table was reserved, seated nicely but table wasn't cleaned well. It was cleaned after the waitress saw us trying to clean with the tissue ourselves. Table were not stable neither. Service was friendly but clearly understaffed. Food came for one person long before another. Miso soup was tasteless(my friend thought the same). Rice came spilled a little on the bowl edge, as well as salad. I had sashimi lunch with good price, considering it's zurich. Although it would fit better with sushi rice not white rice. If you could improve the small details, it would make the restaurant much nicer.

I was gifted the Omakase experience for my birthday. We just had returned from London where we visited Roji and I was not dissapointed at Edomae, I liked the simplicity of the venue and the focus on high quality ingredients. Do not expect crazy combinations of taste (you will not get an oyster poached with wagyu juice and topped with caviar) but I think that is also the beauty of this place. Some things stood out clearly: flamed wagyu, otoro and raw shrimp nigiris as well as the live made mochi desert. Be careful, there is a lot to eat :)

The many courses of the omakase dinner were a very successful mix of traditional dishes with a modern twist. The food was wonderful. Unfortunately the service was unsatisfactory. At that price I expected more attentive service, but instead it felt like it was everyone's first day. Since the omakase took a little longer than expected, we were asked to eat the last course not at the omakase bar, but at another table in the restaurant, which was also suboptimal for the exclusive-looking ambience and further spoiled the overall impression due to the dirty, sticky table worsened. Last but not least, my voucher (admittedly a few years old) was not accepted, even though it cannot expire according to Swiss law. The reason was that a code was missing - which left another pale aftertaste.

Spectacularly good omakase! The fish was fresh, the rice perfect, the service friendly. It was a pleasure to watch the master prepare the appetizers and the sophistication of all the courses was always impressive. We will come back!

We had the omakase experience and enjoyed it. The food was really amazing and balanced. I also appreciated the fact that the chef paid attention to my comment about not eating meat and poultry when booking online and knowing without us having to "identify" ourselves. He also kept checking on us and made sure we enjoyed every bite. The waitresses were also very attentive and nice. Overall great experience! We will definitely come back.

Lunchtime visit at Edomae: I had a delicious sushi set menu, which was a great value for money (most of the lunch sets are priced around 30.-). Service was a bit slow, overall great experience and good atmosphere for a business lunch. Make sure to reserve a table!

Midday meal during the week. Varied menu offering sushi, sashimi, noodles and other specialties. Very good shrimp tempura. The room and furniture are rather simple, Zen decoration but pleasant place. Efficient service. I will return for an evening dining experience.

Wonderful omakase experience! The bite by bite experience was expertly crafted and every dish was a memorable taste profile. I particularly loved the unique nigiri pieces and the mochi soup!

I had to throw up 🤮 all night on the 4.10. 2023 on my husband’s birthday. I contacted the restaurant as well. All they cared about” did you go to the hospital?” — I should have- they said “other people did not get sick.” I was very sick 🤢 my husband had huge stomachache. Never ever go back! The service for the first day or something took an order and made 3 times out of 6 meals mistakes. The manager didn’t even care!

‼️GOT FOOD POISONING ‼️ DONT eat there save yourself from food poisoning and bacteria infection! After eating the 5 course dinner menu had severe food poisoning not hygienic also smells bad in restaurant. Disappointed getting food poisoning after paying so much is absolutely not acceptable….

We came here for dinner on a weekday and the restaurant seemed closed. Once we entered the dining room, there was no one around. Eventually we were greeted and taken to the table. The dining is divided between the standard dining tables and the chef counter. It feels bright and ample, likely due to the few tables. The highlight is food and the quality of the ingredients, very well prepared nicely presented. We order a random sample of the sushi and other typical Japanese dishes. The service was friendly, but felt a bit improvised. The drinks menu is ok, but we were not inspired to explore it too much. Although the food is really great, I am unsure the overall experience is not special.

Authentic japanese vibe. We had the omakase and were sitting at the counter in front of the chef. I felt like being back in Ginza. Perfect sushi and unique creations. Highly recommend if you want a taste of the real Japan.

I've enjoyed an omakase dinner several times and I'm thrilled! The artful preparation of numerous wonderful dishes, the symphony of flavors and the variety of fish and meat were excellent and a wonderful experience! Edomae is a piece of Japan in Zurich and is also a real treat for Japan lovers and connoisseurs! Thank you very much, dear Edomae team! You are in a class of your own!

The omakase was absolutely excellent. First-class ingredients, careful preparation, really like in Japan. The reception is a bit bland and the atmosphere is cool. The wine list is poor and doesn't fit at all with a menu for CHF 150. But the food was so incredibly good that it still gets 5 stars.

There is a link to the menu for Wednesday and Thursday on the website. The first page of the menu shows different types of sushi. The fact is, however, that there is no sushi, sashimi, etc. on these days. There is no mention of this anywhere on the website. Karage, gyoza, salmon, mackerel... None of these dishes were particularly good or memorable (level Asian takeaway on the corner). Unfortunately I can't say it any other way. The mackerel was the driest fish I have ever eaten. The fact that a Japanese chef from the kaizeki kitchen is behind such dishes is really a shame for this guild.

After waiting half an hour for our food, when we asked, we were assured that the food was currently being prepared. After waiting for an hour, upon second inquiry we were told that there was a mess and that our food would be re-prepared. We received the food after about 70 minutes of waiting and ultimately had to take it with us as takeaway.

Extremely slow service. Waited 40 minutes for 2 dishes. The food came cold. The waitress are careless. You need to approach them if you want to ask about something because they avoid eye contact the whole time. They even served drinks 35 minutes after ordering.. just avoid it all together if you don’t have 2h for a simple lunch Response to the feedback: the 3 of us came together. So no there was nobody coming later. After 10 minutes of trying to get the waitress attention we ordered and mentioned we will be only 3 and not 4 ppl. We waited for the drinks 35minutes. One dish for one person came in 20 minutes and the rest had to wait additional 20 minutes. We had to eat in a rush (literally 10 minutes) to go back on time to the office. The timing of paying does not mean we received the food on time. Everybody else in the restaurant was served before us even though they arrived later. You can just apologize for the incompetence service instead of trying to make it look like we were wrong somehow ;)

We’ve had great Omakase dinner by new chef in June2023. He was a Michelin star chef at the other restaurant before, and recently moved to Edomae Restaurant this spring. 150fr Omakase dinner is really a great value and his technique and sense is just the top! Will definitely come back again!

The new omakase (chef’s selection course menu) is definitely one of the most excellent ones in Zurich! I felt like I’m in Japan. The new chef Ken-San is just outstanding. Highly recommended.

Quality is really poor sadly. This place used to be amazing, I think they had a change in ownership. Rude staff finally agreed to not charge us for our awful meal. My husband and I had indigestion and I didn't even eat half my meal. We won't be back. What a shame.

The chef was extraordinary. The best experience I've ever had last 12 years trying to find a good japanese place in London and Zurich. I really enjoyed the food and service here. I recommend Omakase set.

Great place with friendly staff. The fresh Sushi was really tasty. The cheese cake was also excellent and we stayed way longer than planned. I can really recommend going there.

Good food that is quite authentic. But unfortunately the price outclasses the food by far. It's easy to find equally good (or better) Japanese food with lower prices in Zurich nowadays. Also, the interior design / decoration might be kinda modern and trendy, but to me it just felt cold and boring (and not Japanese at all, except for the 3 posters from Japanese fashion stores, I guess).

We did the Omakase experience for my son's 18th birthday. The food was absolutely amazing and there was a lot of it. Really a great evening.

While the first omakase was really good, the second time I came i was not satisfied with the quality of the ingredients.

I visited for lunch on a weekday and it wasn't crowded. Serving was very fast and it was a good composition for a meal. I ordered a bowl, but only chopsticks were provided, you can get a spoon by requesting it separately.

The restaurant is called a sushi restaurant, but half of the evenings you can only order a large sushi platter for two people, with no individual selection, and the sushi chef is not there. I haven't yet seen where you could find out online when there is actually a selection of sushi and when it isn't. What I then ordered was underwhelming. The miso soup came along with the chicken katsu instead of one after the other, and neither was overwhelming. The chicken pieces were cut way too big to eat with chopsticks. The ambience does not immediately invite you to linger if a few tables are simply placed in a hall.

Great location centrally located. Reservations are also recommended for lunch. Food is super fresh and very tasteful. Customer service & friendliness could be better, but I can understand that this is lacking when there is only one person present at lunchtime.

Edomae is one of the few Japanese restaurants in Zurich that offers omakase. The preparation of the food is very authentically Japanese and true to the original, which I personally like much better than exotic modern variations. The omakase begins with a small and quiet group of one to a maximum of eight people at the counter and the sushi chef gradually surprises you with small, varied portions that are prepared live in front of you. The food here tastes fantastic and the atmosphere is extremely inviting. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find quiet and cozy places to eat in Zurich, Edomae is the welcome exception. Here you can talk to the Sitzbachbarns virtually undisturbed. The owner is very accommodating, friendly and professional. All in all, the experience of experiencing omakase here is absolutely worth every cent.

The omakase is an absolute disappointment and the quality of the food and what is served is below average - almost cheeky for this price. There is better sushi in every Migros branch. A total failure! Addendum: The menu is prepared and presented by a housewife for an impressive CHF 150 per person. The nigiris are as big as a BigMac - and yes, they're better at Migros! Not even the Kobe beef was eaten (sic)!

Editing my earlier review. I first came here 3 years ago and loved the authentic Japanese cuisine. Went back several times since. I ate here again last week and the quality seems to have dropped. I'm not sure if the place changed ownership? Hamachi carpaccio starter was still good, but the duck curry was really disappointing. The duck was very chewy. Tempura also wasn't very tasty. Really disappointing!

I didn't have sushi. Tempura udon was nice. The noodle was chewy and tasty. Broth was great. It was a bit warm inside but the service was attentive and friendly.

Perfect tampura vegetarian udon, came with a little side salad. I am highly recommend going there!! The staff were great too and they have relaxed atmosphere.

The website of this place looked really good and suitable for a fancy dinner. The option of “omakase” dinner from a Japanese chef creates an impression that you have to reserve a table. In fact the restaurant was absolutely empty when we got there, and rightly so. The food is ridiculously expensive and doesn’t taste even remotely authentic. One can say that it’s Asian or ‘fusion’, but it still doesn’t excuse old and badly cooked rice. The staff members were absolutely uninterested in the guests and sometimes seemed unfriendly. Huge disappointment.

It was an opportunity to eat sushi again after a long time... But we decided on sashimi... Very good, nicely prepared... the service could smile more... All in all, a nice lunch... Gladly again.

The Omakase is unfairly overpriced. They do not provide food of essential quality for 150 CHF even though they look fine. The crab is directly taken out of a fridge without returning to a suitable temperature. There are still small ice crystals in the crab meat. The raw beef is neither juicy nor soft. The sushi rice was completely cooled, not at body temperature, and the fusion with the sushi vinegar was not good. The only food I was satisfied with is the sea urchin and the reason is it is hard to have it in Zurich.

Amazing lunch place, superb staff, and fair value for money a la carte. But sorry the Omakase was compared to those we had all around the world for similar prices a true disappointment (eg you’d assume to at least get a tuna of a chu-toro quality in such a dinner and not a lean piece of Akami that looks like it is from the lunch menu - sorry but thats just what I’d expect for this money. Then I’d rather pay more and go to Shin for a proper Omakase then paying too much for mid level quality. Also the last roll was simply a very bad cuisine combo of no fish and crazy intense spice - something no Omakase chef in the world has ever served us before and that according to our taste doesnt make sense). Either you have to play on the right level or you shouldnt try to be a good Izakaya and Omakase place in one.

Tasty japanese food in a central, minimalistic venue. Our waitress was friendly and we found the service generally good. I found the mix of ingredients in the dish well balanced and the final price for the meal was aligned with the average of similar restaurants in Zurich.

Very disappointed with the quality after change in management. Prices increased, quality decreased. the Chirachi Bowl I paid 30chf for contained alot of rice, some fish and mostly salad with one bite of avocado slice and one mushroom. Really sad after loving this place for 3 years. Btw my compliant to the chef was not taken seriously.

Edomae is a minimal and classy Japanese restaurant located just in front of “Luigia” in Talstrasse. We entered by chance since we were headed to eat a pizza at “Luigia”, but the place was full, and we had to wait too much. Therefore we chose to try EDOMAE, and we were very happy with our choice! The place is nice and elegant with a long desk in front of the window by the sidewalk where it is possible to eat. We tried a salmon tartare with avocado and sauce (awesome), a tempura shrimp ramen and fried chicken + miso soup, vegetables, and rice. The flavours were delicious and typical. The chicken was perfectly cooked and fried., while the shrimp ramen was tasty and very well prepared. The service is fast, and the waiters are kind, we were delighted by the experience and definitively come back to taste more dishes! The prices are high but quite aligned with the Zurich standards.

It was very good, I had the eel, which alone gives bonus points simply because they have eel. The tempura looked so damn tasty that I'll take it next time. Staff super friendly, atmosphere quiet and sedate, service great.

When I asked why the food is so horrible but the price so high, the chef replied with “this is just Zurich”. Honestly shocked. The worst restaurant in Zurich. I haven’t had such bad food in a long time. I was shocked... I couldn’t eat it. Everything was microwaved and not fresh at all. The sushi had obviously been in the refrigerator for a long time and the rice was hard. The eel I bought it from the supermarket. The so-called roast pork is so delicious even the Chinese takeout at the train station cannot be made. The most disgusting thing is that after complaining to the chef, he kept making excuses. 75 Swiss francs per person, what’s not delicious? ? The lowest is Japanese food, Japanese food, and Japanese food.こんなままずい肉出めて. Eel bowl with red ginger? ? ?いいAddition and subtractionにしなさい. The chef explained to us that they don't have a kitchen, then how the freak do you have the audacity to put GRILLED ELLE, YAKINIKU and TEMPURA on your menu???? Everything tastes like deep frozen stuff bought from supermarket and heated up by microwave. When we questioned if this was indeed house made as advertised, he said yes indeed we made the sause! LMAO The starter sushi tastes like COOP sushi, when we asked if that’s from COOP, the chef said it’s a welcome dish so… hmmm???😅😅😅 Honestly I’m amazed by how the chef can serve this quality of food to any customer. The food costed 75 CHF per person, and it’s worth only 50 Rappen. The attitude is the lowest. Fresh ingredients are the best. Integrity and trustworthiness. Die Qualität war sehr schlecht… alles aus microwelle.

Top food and top service! Very relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff. Rice, gyoza, chicken, sesame salad and umeshu sorbet were outstanding! However, I have to recommend the seasonal cheesecake to everyone. A brilliant end to every menu 👌🏽

I had lunch at Edomae in Zurich on Talstrasse. The food is okay, the drinks have a good selection and the ambience is good and clean. The service was okay, but it drags down the performance because you aren't treated really friendly here. Unfortunately you are not flexible at lunchtime and can only order from the lunch menu. Unfortunately, you couldn't order the signature dishes like the Chicken Katzu Curry or the Tonkatzu Curry (pork). Otherwise the food is good and you can have a nice lunch here. If you don't attach great importance to very good service, then it is highly recommended.
