El Azteca in Interlaken

Just go there!!!😋😋😋 Everything is super, the team, the food, drinks, ambiance. This is the real stuff. This is Mexican, not Tex Mex (although they do have Tex Mex cuisine on the menu). The place is always full, no matter what day of the week. A couple might get lucky with a small spot but as of 3 it's safer to reserve. Try the pitcher margaritas, chit chat with the owner, sometimes there might be spontaneous guitar playing, singing and feel free to dance later on if the vibe is there. We're usuals there and no matter when we go it's always a nice place to go. It's become our "comfort restaurant" where we either celebrate good moments or want to get our minds off a bad day or just want a nice evening.

Good service, good food, good environment. Really enjoyed the spicy margarita and the guac. Several vegetarian options (enchiladas were quite good).

If you’re missing good and authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. Also, they’re very generous on the Margaritas:)

The service was the best part as the waiter was super friendly, asked about me, checked in with me if I liked the meal, and the food came out fast! There was a singer which was nice and he had a great voice! I got a mango daiquiri that was good but could’ve used more alcohol. My biggest complaint is the price of the food for what you get. I ordered a small portion of the enchiladas which were really 2 taquitos for 22 CHF and a very small side of rice and refried beans. The food was alright but the portion really was small for how expensive it was. I would recommend this place for more drinks and appetizers

El Azteca can be recommended. Good service, no long waiting times. Right in the center of Interlaken.

We had such a fun night here. Our host and his amazing team were a lot of fun. If you want a relaxed evening, with maybe a bit of impromptu music, splashed with lots of laughs…. This is where you want to go.! It’s a must for a great family or adult night ( our kids are 11-14 by the way and they loved it )

I never thought I’d end up in a Mexican restaurant in Interlaken but I don’t want to leave because this place is amazing!!! Food is delicious, service is great, everyone is so kind. Just buy the guy with the guitar a tequila and you’ll be in a for a great musical experience. ☺️

This is such a beautiful restaurant! The server was so kind and warm to me, which I really appreciated especially as a traveller. The food is very delicious, I had a chicken burrito. 10/10 recommend! :)

I love this place it’s so amazing

Great place. As of November 2023 Google is giving bad directions. Look for directions to Hotel Blume. Google shows the restaurant within a few hundred meters of the Happy Inn which is not correct. Our food came out hot and fresh. Green sauce was nice and spicy.

I've eaten at many Mexican restaurants and what makes this stand out is the "great food", great service and atmosphere combined. Edgar and David really go out of their way to make you feel at home. The live music on Saturday was a nice touch as well. I highly recommend this restaurant. Everything is made from scratch and is a real taste of Mexico. Thank you. JD

A great day starts like this 😉. The journey begins with a boat trip from Thun to Interlaken in wonderful sunshine 😎, then stroll towards El Azteca to treat yourself to food and drink 🫶 and then take the train home comfortably 👍🏻. What more could you want 😉

This place is just fantastic! The best and most super interactive live music…. The performers played some of our favourite numbers & even danced with us. Just boosted our mood totally. The menu offers good vegetarian options. The guacamole was so creamy & the nachos were too good. Portion sizes are huge.. The staff was very friendly and interactive. Highly recommend!!

Average Mexican food. A little pricey.

Just what I needed...a break from Switzerland's mostly terrible food. The guys were super friendly, but there was only two of them doing everything for over 20 tables. Ask for some spicy salsa if the red sauce doesn't cut it for you. Fajitas were nice and the enchilada sauce was similar to a mole. It's Switzerland so you're still going to pay Switzerland prices. Will def go back if we return.

7 guests: we were greeted with a warm welcome and were lucky enough to be seated quickly. Service was 5 star! Me and my wife went to Mexico last year and it felt like we was in Mexico. The food was amazing! Delicious and authentic. The mariachi band entertainment was a sweet touch! We very much enjoyed the whole experience! Special thanks to Kuya Ed and the El Azteca family!

I don’t like the treatment i got by the server. We didn’t have a reservation and the restaurant was empty when we walked in, we asked if its possible to have table of 3 and it was midday around 6:30 pm he was like all rambling and speaking with attitude. So I asked him the whole restaurant is reserved by one party only or different reservations because it didn’t make sense to me all people made reservations AT 6:30! And i was thinking we can comeback back later. He made a a sign to the waiter that i talk too much! Very DISRESPECTFUL. I think its pure racism because i see them treating different people differently! Ps the picture was taken around 7:02 I don’t see any people when we left!!!

You want real mexican food, this is the best place for that in the entire Swizertland. Is a spacial place. Great customer service and if they speak differente languages including Spanish. Real Mexican food.

This was some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. The servers were honestly even better and genuinely made an effort to connect to every person in the restaurant. This place was great for everything it had and more than you'd want in a restaurant

Amazing food, we went here twice for dinner while we stayed in Interlaken. The piña colada margarita, the burritos, the guac, chilaquiles, quesadillas and and enchiladas were great. The service is also spectacular.

We arrived at 9:30 pm, we asked if there was service, an employee answered us completely mockingly, if you don't see people and there are no lights on, what do you think? As we left the place I took a photo and immediately the lights turned on. The service hours posted are incorrect, and the staff is rude.

As a Mexican, I can say that this is probably the most authentic Mexican restaurant I have come across in Switzerland. My boyfriend really wanted to come here for dinner (Saturday night), but I was apprehensive since I don't go out to Mexican restaurants here in Europe as they are always a huge disappointment. Begrudgingly, I agreed, and went. To my surprise, I was actually really impressed! A couple of the waiters were playing the guitar and singing popular Mexican songs all night. The atmosphere was really welcoming, friendly, and lively. They have all the classic Mexican dishes so there is something for everyone, even vegetarians. Upon request, they also have an actually spicy salsa - real salsa, as opposed to the "spicy" kind made for foreigners. The tortillas were good too. They also had a nice selection of tequilas, but what really impressed me, was that they even had Cajeta. I will definitely be back. As for service, definitely be prepared to wait. It is quite popular so getting a table at peak hours may be difficult. Also, if you come in large groups, it may be hard or impossible to accommodate you as it is a small place and there is limited seating. Getting someone to take our order and get us our order took time, but this was expected since it was peak time and it was busy. It is just a couple servers.

Tourist eating bunker with very simple and tastefully monotonous food. The portions are small, the spices are rare, and the price is high. I would not recommend the restaurant to anyone I know. Simply a waste of money.

The server made a mistake thanks to being overzealous about a member's food allergy. Yet, the experience still was great thanks to how good the food was. The balance of flavors and spices was a great Mexican treat for us, and despite our limited choices of what we can eat, we still had a very good time with the food. Of everything we ordered, the vegetarian enchiladas were exception, but the fajitas weren't far behind. I am sure with what we ordered that the rest of the cuisine is as tasty, or even tastier, than what we had. The quesadillas were not worth it though.

We returned and will continue to return to this magnificent Mexican food restaurant in Interlaken. If you are Latin and don't know what to eat in Interlaken. Do the same as us. We have visited Interlaken 3 times and we always return to Azteca, very delicious food with Mexican flavor. Recommendation to also try Margaritas and Caipirinhas.

Racist server/Owner! Here is the conversation I had with one of the servers/ owner who was obviously joking around, smiling and serving other guests and sitting new guests. Me: Hi! Can we get a table for 4 ? Server: No! we don't have anything available. (I could see an empty table for 4. But I could be reserved). Me: What is the wait like ? We can wait for some time. Server: (in a Yelling voice) - You can do whatever you want ! there are no seats here." I understand restaurants have rights to refuse service to anyone. But rudeness and yelling is not okay! We could see that server being nice to other guests so we believe it had to do something with color of our skins. Very disappointed and shame on you guys!!

The prices are like 5 star but no service specially if you are non alchoholic. If you are non alcoholic and vegetarian nothing much or zero worth the prices they charge. Looks like it’s family run business with goal to make highest profit by not hiring enough staff to serve you. If you go to busy time and their small patio is full, don’t sit inside as it’s hot and the staff more interested in serving alcoholic drinks as it’s easy to serve. Literally the guy had no time to take our order. We called and started getting confuse as lots of options are not good and he had no 15 sec to wait because he felt fire on his back and rushing to serve people outside. I didn’t eat there but others in the party. All I can say with 40 to 60 CHF per person, this place is not worth it.

Blatant racism on display. They didn’t even entertain us. We asked for a table for 2 families. The waiter said he cannot give. “can you see the situation here”. And just before us a white family was given a table without reservation. We asked 2 times very very politely and he was rude both times. Racist people. Never eating there.

We came here quite late around 9pm and it was still quite busy. My husband ordered the chillaquiles and I ordered the Caldo soup without rice. We also ordered two mango margaritas and the food and drinks took almost an hour to come out my soup came with rice in it and when I told the waiter I ordered it without rice he’s like, “it comes with rice” yes I am aware that’s why I ordered it without and the other waiter wrote it down but since it took an hour and the kitchen was closed we did not ask for another one. The flavour was nice though and the chillaquiles were very tasty. The mango margaritas were perfect as well. All in all it was a decent experience our first waiter was very friendly and if the food didn’t take so long to come out and if it wasn’t for them not following through with my no rice request I would give it 5*so I do recommend this place but not when it is busy.

Decent quality Mexican food in Interlaken. Service for our group of 4 was slower than anticipated. Like most places in Europe, they charge for water… but they also charge 1.5€ for tap water if you do not order another drink.

Almost never comment on places… but… the food was amazing. If you travel to Interlaken… and love Mexican / TexMex don’t skip this place

We had a really bad experience eating dinner here. Just really really terrible service. We had to wait more than an hour for our food when we could see that many people who came after us were already eating. Finally when the food arrived, it was completely cold as if it was lying somewhere and they completely forgot about it. Would not recommend.

All-around fantastic. Our family of Texans spending two weeks in Switzerland took a chance on having Mexican cuisine. We were richly rewarded with tasty guacamole, excellent margaritas, and fantastic food across the board. If you're used to good Mexican food and have a hankering, this will scratch the itch!

We LOVED this place. During our travels we were really missing some good Tex Mex. This place has bomb margaritas, great food, and the staff was playful and fun. Would come back again if only we had more time in Interlaken.

The best thing that they serve here is margarita. I found the food to be okay, it's not authentic Mexican as mentioned in several reviews, but still one of the best Mexican restaurant in Europe I think.

Food was very disappointing. We order fajitas ($39 chf) and Nachos ($23 chf). The nachos were soggy and lacked any fresh ingredients. Even the salsa had nothing that could be construed as fresh. We had 4 people in our party and shared the fajitas which came with 3 tacos. At The price we paid you would have expected peppers, onions and maybe some attempt at providing good food. We received lack lustre bland low quality food at top prices in a less then prime location. Spend your money elsewhere clearly the high reviews are fake.

The Mexican characteristic style of cooking practices and traditions are very well represented in this restaurant. It's a must in Interlaken. If you wish to try a good and original Tequila Añejo, this is the palce!

Great little find for great Mexican food. A little pricey, but worth it. Our multi-family group of 11 enjoyed everything we ordered. I had the beef enchiladas with their homemade Adobo sauce. My wife loved her chicken nachos. And the guacamole and chips were great.

Food was pretty decent. Very expensive, but everything is expensive in interlaken. Main problem I had was that my friend ordered a fajita and was given a burrito. He told them that he ordered a fajita and the waiter rudely and bluntly said just “no”, and left him with the burrito. For the price I would hope he would at least get what he ordered, or at least an apology.

Incredibly friendly staff, very accommodating. The food wasn't as tasty as we are used to being from the US. Margarita was good and I felt they handled our gluten free requests well.

We tried the Mayan enchiladas and the adobo pork enchiladas, to be honest the Mayan enchiladas were inedible, they were too spicy (says a Mexican), the pork enchiladas lacked flavor and the northern synchronized, literally it was a synchronized divided into 6 parts. Maybe that wasn't the chef's best day. There were no people and it took them more than 20 minutes to serve us. The place is nice and cozy.

It’s really delicious! ! It was my first time to eat Mexican food and it was so delicious! ! Although it was too late, I had to take it back to the hotel and eat it facing the mountain, but it didn’t stop the deliciousness of the cactus! ! (I still remember the boss’s sad expression when he heard that I was taking him away. You can imagine how delicious it would be if you eat it while it’s hot😋)
