Fondue in Zürich

Made a reservation since they said they were available then they canceled on me.

The food stands are varied and the food was great. However, the ambience was disturbed by the very loud music, which we found a bit of a shame, as otherwise we would certainly have stayed longer.

Went spontaneously to the winter village today. First aperitif at the bar where the music was way too loud. The waitress was very friendly but had no idea about the prices and kept adding things up incorrectly. Then we went to Chalet Essen. Very nice presentation/furnishings. The service was friendly but somehow absent. Everything was written down casually and sometimes incorrectly. But we also asked for wine and got the menu. The fondue came very quickly, bread was rather rubbery and potatoes were overcooked and far too wrinkled and soft. The fondue almost looked like a latte macchiato, so foamy with all the baking soda. Simply… and for an incredible 31.50 p.p. !!! The taste is pretty much zero despite seasoning. Service hadn't been there for a long time and suddenly (when 3/4 of the fondue had been eaten) she said she wanted to order red wine... NO, definitely not anymore and if she did then she would order white wine. After eating fondue, we enjoyed a delicious raclette at the stand outside. That was great. Next time just pay attention to the stalls in front of the chalet, even though the coffee shop was closed before 8:30 p.m. (on the homepage it says until: 0:00!) and there was nothing sweet anywhere. What a shame for such a “cool” concept.

Basically OK but just way too expensive. The prices are the same as in a restaurant, only here you sit on a wooden bench in a cold hall. I visited the delicious Thai street food stand 👍🙏. The papaya salad was fresh and with 4 chillies it was also deliciously spicy like in Thailand🇨🇭🇹🇭👍🙏. I also ordered chicken with rice. All in all great. At Fr. 33.00 it's the restaurant price where I can sit comfortably in the warm. I later got a drink at the Migrolino which is right next door. But a visit here is definitely worth it.
