The Frohsinn restaurant is definitely worth a visit! It seems as if time has stood still in the cozy restaurant... The menu is varied and very appealing, the portions are generous and simply delicious! The sweet pastries are also homemade and are a delight, especially the nut cake is the finest. Here you can feel the courageous commitment of the landlord and his team in every respect. The small Christmas market on the 1st of Advent in the restaurant's romantic, snow-covered garden was an absolute highlight and gave us pre-Christmas feelings! Wonderful! We will be back soon!

First the positive impressions: The food is good to very good for a restaurant like this. Certainly not star-rated cuisine and not everything perfect, but all in all a convincing performance. Both soups are A1, you can't get a fruity curry soup like this everywhere. Bread is served as a starter (good, but nothing that you particularly remember). The soup could have used a little more salt (a matter of taste). The portion of meat (venison schnitzel) was very generous! Most of the pieces were nice and tender and fresh, perhaps even thinly sliced. Plus a good, strong porcini mushroom sauce. The side dishes could have been a bit more (but maybe a little less meat). The red cabbage has an excellent taste, good balance of sweet and salty, with chestnuts. Next to it is a piece of apple with cranberry jam. The Brussels sprouts had a little “earthy” taste. The Chnöpfli are good, but if you prefer them very soft, with butter and unfried, you'll have to go elsewhere. The presentation on the divided plate is great. Now to the more negative points: The Sinalco I ordered tasted strange, like a Sinalco Zero. Unfortunately there was no salt and pepper on the table at the beginning, but this was only brought when we asked. The service seemed a bit hectic and rather short. Almost too often she came out of the kitchen quickly and disappeared again. This despite the fact that there weren't that many guests in the restaurant. An absolute no-go: Serve the main course if the starter has neither been served nor finished. Much too quickly! As a guest, you come to enjoy yourself and want a break of at least 10 minutes between courses to digest. The soup was also so hot that you couldn't eat it any faster. When the main course is about to be put on the table, you ask yourself why you are in such a hurry. I will still recommend the restaurant because the atmosphere is nice and the quality of the food and the price-performance ratio are convincing. Plus a friendly host (and chef).

The restaurant is located high above Winterthur and away from all the hustle and bustle. Still easily accessible by bus. A country inn as you would expect. Warm hosts, diverse Swiss cuisine with surprises. (e.g. mussel soup, definitely try it, there is nothing better in the USA!). In addition, wine lovers get their money's worth. There is hardly a comparable wine list even in the cities. A dream! Fair prices for food and drink and the large, idyllic garden invite you to linger when the weather is nice. Again as soon as possible...

We agree with the other 5* reviews. Since I have to eat gluten-free, I was also delighted to see how many dishes the very friendly host was willing to prepare gluten-free. Although we failed to note my intolerance, he conjured up a wonderfully juicy cordon bleu in gluten-free breading on the table. Fantastic!

We had our team event in Frohsinn Eidberg in mid-May. Hansjakob Zurbuchen and his team prepared a very fine and rich aperitif riche for us. Wanted to eat in the restaurant today, Sunday, April 30, 2023. I specifically checked online to see if they were open. Yes, they are open and I was happy. After the trip to Eidberg (just outside of Winterthur) there was a sign saying 'company holidays' at the entrance to the restaurant. I would like to treat them to their holidays, but I won't make the trip to Eidberg again.

The daily recommendation was chamois from CH👍 Since you don't get chamois every day, the choice was clear. As a starter we decided on nut salad and pumpkin soup. During the short wait we observed the menus of the other guests. The cordon bleu and the large skewers, served on a substantial wooden platter, looked excellent! After our delicious starter, the main course followed. The chamois was outstanding! Very tender and juicy. At the end we treated ourselves to a Nesselrode and an impressive (huge) Kemmeriboden-Bad Meringue dessert. The boss came by all the guests during the evening and personally inquired about the guests' well-being. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very familiar and pleasant. The food was top and the prices were fair. We would love to come back here!😁

My future day 2022 It was an absolute hit! The boss himself - Hans - showed me the various tasks of a cook and a service employee over the course of a whole day. At the beginning, Hans explained to us the importance of shopping - totally exciting! Afterwards there was a lot to do in the kitchen - 60 lunches had to be prepared. You also have to be careful with technical devices and sharp knives - even if you're in a hurry. And as soon as the salad is nicely draped on the plate, the dishes soon have to be carefully cleared away from the guests. In the afternoon, the cook doesn't lie lazily in bed, but is already preparing for dinner - cutting herbs, baking cakes or creating something else delicious. The taste was totally wrong because they were fried to death. “Schnitzels” from the deep fryer seem to be becoming the ultimate in cooking more and more, from cooks who are incompetent or simply don’t feel like frying them normally and properly. The side dish, the vegetables, was, as expected, a frozen product, not even a pinch of salt was “wasted” on it. The dessert, an ice cream, had probably already thawed, the cold chain was broken, and the frozen pieces of water in it gave it away. There are very fine, good restaurants in and around Winterthur where the quality is much better and the price is right. One can only hope that such “restaurateurs” don’t stay afloat for too long.
