Good atmosphere Great service The meals are good but not exceptional..

Good and well presented, but also very expensive. A bit crammed, for which attentive staff compensates.

Disappointing! The quality, presentation and taste of the food has declined radically. Prices are still premium though… What a disaster and a pity for a place that used to be my favorite sushi place in Seefeld. It felt like a „Wish“ version of the once great restaurant. NOT recommending this restaurant!

Well-located restaurant, in addition to sushi, there is a large selection of first-class Japanese dishes on the menu. There is a pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant, with typical Zurich prices…

They are skilled, yet their arrogance is a significant flaw; it's a misguided approach that turns into their own worst enemy. The limited options available to people play a role in their success. Given more choices, I would certainly look elsewhere. In today's world, the emphasis is on quality and a culture of exceptional service, propelled by advances in generative AI and programmatic advertising systems. A word of caution: while the quality of your food is commendable, your arrogance matches it in intensity. Hopefully, the feedback loop will serve as a valuable learning tool for you in the future.

What a shame, this once great Japanese restaurant has really completely sunk... I was there Saturday night with my wife, in the main room not the sushi bar, we were very happy to return to a restaurant where we had been many times in the past 7 years and where we had our first date, sadly the experience was shocking. We ordered as a starter the large sushi plate for 150 chf, it was only 26 pieces which for the price is not that many so expectations for quality and diversity were high. Appart from a few schrimps it was only cheap cuts of salmon, tuna or bream (perhaps som other white fish) which were lukewarm and did not feel fresh, we could not even finish thats how bad it was. Then the main courses arrive, I had the entrecote which was overcooked and dry, you could tell it had been sitting on a super hot plate for a long time, my wife had the veal which was very fat and barely eatable, of course there was no side dish, again shocking for the price. In the meantime, just behind us, a waitress or cook walked once carrying a massive garbage bin and another time actually dragging a large garbage bag on the floor. I could not believe my eyes as this was just behing my chair in the seating room of the restaurant. I complained about our disapointment regaring the food to the waiter, no apologies nor any commercial gesture were made. You could sense that the staff there did not care from their unfriendly attitude, from the fact you could actually see them drink and eat stuff... (I did not even mention the fact that when I was talking to the waiter ordering the host interrupted me to give an order to the waiter, if you have something to say to your staff thats fine, just dont interrupt a customer in the middle of his sentence...) I will sadly never go back there again. 250 chf wasted

Super fine and authentic cuisine, from starter to main course and dessert! The tall waiter with a beard gave great recommendations and is super competent and personable, THANK YOU

The last two visits were disappointing. Unfriendly service and way too expensive. It's no fun going there anymore. There are much better alternatives nearby. A pity.

Very delicious food but its sad that you have to take more than 1 cause its a small plate. We ate 2 of them and was more hungry after that. And for that the price isnt good. If you pay 60-70chf you should be good.

Yesterday spontaneously at 1:30 p.m. we went to Ginger, which friends had recommended to me for lunch. The anticipation was great, but unfortunately I was disappointed: no more warm food (although I chose the restaurant because it was open until 2:30 p.m.), only lame sushi from the production line and an unfriendly, dismissive service. No information about the composition of the dishes and prices. Three plates and a ginger tea for CHF 45.-. Next to me they were diligently turning things down for the evening service - I really felt very out of place and left the restaurant very soon. That's it.

We were helped to expand the reservation from 2 to 4 at short notice, which was very nice. Sushi Go round is a bit special, but well prepared and varied. I will eat here again.

Many years ago this was THE sushi bar in Zurich. You can see that the restaurant is in desperate need of a refresh. The food is still very good - but doesn't justify the inflated price. The service staff was also very accommodating. All in all 4-5 stars if the prices weren't so high and the sushi bar was a bit nicer.

There should be more variety of food

Service and food good, but exorbitantly expensive, absolutely disproportionate! I won't go to Ginger again.

Update: I was again last week. Since my last visit, the restaurant offer and service improved and I was pleasantly surprised. I am happy to be back. I see we are not the only ones disappointed with the new concept. So no more japanese dishes for lunch, instead you get 'regional' dishes: vegetarian 22CHF, meat/fish 44CHF (!), pasta 24CHF. Not only that it is barely japanese restaurant now, the meals are not justifying the concept of a lunch meal. On top of this, you get greeted with the lady who will never smile to you and who you feel not welcome with.

Until now, I considered Ginger to be one of the good sushi restaurants. The visit on October 18, 2023 revised my view. The fish has dried out and is so dried that it is already sticking to the plate. The bar was so full that some dishes were served several hours before they were eaten. Dishes that were supposed to be marinated were simply completely marinated and warm. It is better to have fewer, but different dishes, so that there is a constant change and the dishes are always fresh. The waitresses weren't very attentive and some gentleman on staff had a discussion with the older gentleman behind the bar that was completely out of place. Never have discussions in front of guests. The memory of that evening really makes me angry.

Unfortunately we were a little late and could only take ToGo with us. Nevertheless, the food was really very good!

Good sushi & more. With the lights dimmed, guests sit very close together at the sushi bar. Apart from the fact that we had to wait a bit at the beginning, my first visit was good. Staff was friendly and polite.

Food is fresh. However was turned off by the rude and arrogant staff (including the manager). I have no idea why the rating of this restaurant is so good.

It's a shame now completely overpriced and poor quality. A combination that doesn't work for me. Was the last time...

The new concept is terrible. The menu is no longer Japanese. The sushi roller is slow with sushi that tasted like they have been rolled a day ago. Prices are unreasonably high. What a disappointing change. We want the old GINGER back.

What a shame: Ginger has a “new concept”. The institution of “best Japanese restaurant in town” has unfortunately died. Very sad!

The new concept in the a la carte area absolutely convinced me. The new chef even introduced himself personally. Definitely come back! Recommended, even if you are new to eating with a fork and knife.

It's a shame: our favorite Japanese restaurant has changed the concept. There is still sushi, but the rest is international cuisine. What's that supposed to mean? The Ginger was an institution. It's a shame, it's nothing for us anymore.

Supposed to be a Zurich institution... Unfortunately, we had a completely different experience. The restaurant was actually open until 11 p.m., we arrived at 9:20 p.m. and the kitchen was already closed. Otherwise we're supposed to eat sushi off the assembly line, there's still a lot to choose from. The big selection wasn't entirely a lie, but the things were certainly no longer fresh. None of the 4-5 plates tasted good, on the contrary, I can't remember the last time I had such bad sushi and ceviche. And then the prices!!! An impudence. Definitely not recommended.

Were at the sushi bar. The food was ok but nothing special and way too expensive! The selection could have been more. I'm not going there anymore. Price/performance -> quality is not right.

Yesterday in the à la carte restaurant. The service was friendly. I haven't been there for a while. The quality has decreased significantly. Two dishes were served with cocktail sauce, which reminded me of a fast food place. The tempura didn't taste like it was freshly baked and was sticky and bland. I had to specially order tempura sauce and it wasn't authentically Japanese - way too sweet and no radish. The rest of the small micro (tapas) portions were average and expensive. Unfortunately it has lost some of its authenticity and we couldn't order fresh sashimi because we were sitting in the back. That was new to me. I was wondering if the owner/chef has changed. Sorry for the bad feedback.

We tried sushi counter. Creative fusion Japanese food — bit disappointed since I thought the chef would be Japanese. Another disappointment was they have only smoking terrace outside even though my husband found this restaurant on “no-smoking” restaurant website. Too spicy or too sweet sauce on sushi for me — out of balance. Too expensive for quality and portion. I loved ginger and dessert though. Nice service. Interested in trying other dishes that you cannot order at bar but will not go to the counter again.

Bad dinner experience in awhile! Food on the the rotating shushi bar kept on repeating without new and fresh dishes being added. Typically, in a regular Japanese restaurant, if the dishes on the shushi bar passed certain amount of rounds and still no one takes them, they will be removed so freshly cooked dishes would be added. To add to the matter, salmon which is the main ingredient in shushi bar like this one, is not even remotely fresh. The staff was also very inattentive not paying attention to requests. The small tapas-sized dishes were also very pricy starting at 10 CHF and went to 28 per dish. In summary, SAVE YOURSELF MONEY, TIME, and MOOD and DO NOT COME!!

The sushi bar concept simply doesn’t work the speed the pace , the taste. cannot order the A la carte if you sit at the bar. I feel like the slowest ever sushi on wheel. Nothing new was added at 20.30. It almost feel like we eat the leftover. Just sad.

Average sushi place where quality and price don't seem balanced. Or we caught an unfortunate night, which can happen! The highlight of our dinner was the staff serving outside, very lovely and sweet. Would go back for them, but not for the food :/

Overall ok, sake snack at the beginning, nice detail. moderate service. The climate is not bad. The food was good, but I expected more from the quantity.

Very good restaurant. The two cooks cook excellent dishes in front of you! A treat, and the opportunity to discover dishes other than the Maki/sushi combo. The only disappointment was the mochi for dessert. Means. I recommend this restaurant!

Excellent food, economic portions and you might come across snappy waiters who quickly lose interest in you if you spend under 40 CHF.

Great quality of fish! It surprised me how fresh it tasted. The Asian ladies at the “kitchen “ in front of the bar, were very friendly and helpful, they explained to us what kind of fish they were with patience. Tuna a must try !

Wonderful birthday celebrated with very fine food. Pleasant atmosphere and courteous staff. Called me straight away when I left something behind after dinner, which luckily saved me a long walk back. In short: gladly again!

Used to be top on two occasions. This time a flop. So sad to see that place going down like many other restaurants in this time. Every dish used to be s piece of art and explosion of taste. Whats left is super high prices and the same friendly service

The à la carte part of the restaurant is amazing, staff is friendly and accommodating, the food amazing and the drinks menu excellent. Unfortunately, my experience at the running sushi belt wasn‘t the same. The staff (talking only about service) was very rude and although I booked a spot for two almost two weeks in advance we were seated directly across two strangers which a) made the evening very akward (when we asked if we could change the answer was no) and b) one of us wasn‘t able to reach the belt at all. The food was extremely salty and the pricing (and description of plates) completely intransparent. Don’t get me wrong - I am willing to pay for good sushi (not that you have a choice in zurich anyways) but I‘d like to at least know how much. Won‘t visit the running sushi part again and can‘t recommend. I still give 3 stars because of the à la carte part which is a very nice spot to eat at.

Food is phenomenal, service is friendly, but the heart attack waiting at the end in the name of the BILL was a bit too much for me. Ginger is delicious. The running sushi sends a signal that perhaps this elevated sushi bar is not as crazy expensive as one would imagine. But it is. And it take a big sticker to shock me. As much as I loved it, I would perhaps opt for another.

Very disappointed by the taste of the food. We went there with 6 people for dinner and all of us agreed that the food tastes very boring. The sushi is good but the rest... Even though it sounds very delicious on the menu it is lacking seasoning. The pork is basically just a cut up schnitzel, the salmon and duck were also very boring. The service was very friendly but that's about it. For the price I really expected a lot more! (the servings are also quite small) Sake was great, the yuzu gin tonic is just a gin tonic with a slice of lemon and a yuzu flavored tonic water. Sorry that doesn't justify the high price.

If you have too much money and time anyway, you will find excellent, fresh Japanese food in a pleasant atmosphere with moderate service here. Contrary to what the price suggests, the "a la carte" dishes are not meals, but rather smaller tapas to share. The average person probably eats 2-4 of these. Unfortunately, you can't "eat your way through the menu" as you please when every order takes over 30 minutes to arrive and, according to the reservation confirmation, you can only stay 1.5-2 hours. The service was consistently inattentive and our reservation was in the wrong restaurant area (unlike the written reservation confirmation). They knew from the start that we wanted to pay with a voucher, but it was only when we were paying that we were informed that the remaining value of vouchers was "generally not" paid out or reissued, so it had to expire.

Price performance is not right for a snack bar. No backrests and very tight space. Otherwise sushi is fine but in my opinion sometimes the sushi is too warm because of the warm plates.

The food was nice enough but not really up to the standard implied by the price. The service was terrible unfortunately . Maybe the young lady was in training but should not have been out front until ready as she made basic mistakes and poor attention to detail.

Unusually warm welcome for Zurich, exceptionally fresh and high quality sushi. Friendly and cool staff. Can’t go wrong. Just do it.

We had to wait 30 minutes for our table - which wouldn't actually be so bad if we hadn't been shown the door shortly after 11:30 a.m. (10:30 p.m.). Whaaaat? It was a Friday evening and the website says they are open until midnight! It's a shame because my wine glass wasn't even empty yet... We won't go to Ginger again and won't recommend it to others. Ps: we consumed over 500.-!

Service was great, he was very nice and served us mochi. Locally cool style, offer supper. Cool music. Tasting menu not recommended, every course was cold and the same! I prefer fine sushi from the Ginger Sushi Bar.

We’re so disappointed. A Saturday evening at Ginger was not a party, just a dinner, nothing special. Food was ok, but nothing more. In fact my tonkatsu was just a wienersnitzel cut into small pieces with mustard. I really missed a Asian touch. But we were so disappointed that our waiters didn’t offer a cup of tea or coffee or dessert. We were totally ignored. Instead we drank two bottles of tap water to the nice price of 6,5 chf for each bottle. Well, we will not recommend this restaurant nor return.

Great sushi selection and quality, very friendly.

Last Thursday we went to the Ginger restaurant again. The dishes we ordered were consistently tasty and were prepared quickly. The boss was also very attentive and greeted all the tables and checked every now and then. Our service person was probably new as she couldn't provide any information about the menu and seemed quite inexperienced. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. We'd love to come back.

Nicely furnished Japanese restaurant in the heart of Zurich. We sat by the sushi belt and it was so tempting to take everything! There were diverse options "running" on the belt. As the menu was not left to us, it's a shame that I did not know we could also order from kitchen. Can't wait for the 2nd visit!

Just left Ginger and I never felt so mistreated leaving a restaurant, if you don't speak german, RUN. We were struggling to decide for what sushi lunch place to go to have a nice lunch to celebrate our first vacation in Switzerland. We ended up deciding for Ginger for because of the reviews. We were "greeted" by a guy (I don't know if he was having a bad day or not?? But he had such a "I'm bothered" expression) said that the restaurant would be closing the kitchen soon we arrived at 13:30 and the whole ambiance of the restaurant was kind of like a lounge... If I want to take my time and appreciate the food I wouldn't want to leave so early but ok... the house makes the rules and if he tells us they are closing we would go away, however he asked if asking directly from the bar was ok since we wouldn't be able to ask a la cart and we said yes, at this point communication wasn't amazing since we are fairly recent to the german language ... he guided us up to the bar mumbled something in german to the chef and proceeded to try to talk in german with us again. We said we didn't understand and the guy stormed out. Another employee came (this time smiling) and started talking in english, she re asked the same thing and we replied in the same way and we got a positive response. We asked where to sit and the chef promptly advised us something. Sushi bar chef and the girl serving were ok they served us to the best of their abilities. The food was good however we didn't get to try much because 1st piece of sushi long this guy started having a heated discussion, raising his voice and gesticulating. Mumbled some words in English and some words I could recognise. After being so rude to us, in my mind that whole spectacle was about our late visit. Well at that point I just wanted to leave, we asked for the bill finished what we had in the plates and left our lunch. I never felt more uncomfortable in a restaurant in my life and I couldn't ever enjoy any food after this service

When Ginger opened over 20 years ago, the price was already high, but the sushi was served with excellent sauces. Today the prices are still high, but the sushi is mediocre, as you can find in any run-of-the-mill sushi restaurant. The quality of the raw materials is rather cheap to mediocre. They serve salmon from Norway, where salmon is full of antibiotics. They should offer salmon from Switzerland for the price they charge. But you don't do that. More likely to buy cheaply and charge high prices.

One of the best Sushi places in Zurich

I was really looking forward to it and I was really disappointed. Lunch business until 2:30 p.m. but as an individual I was no longer allowed to order at 1:35 p.m. But I was allowed to take the leftovers from the movable sushi bar at the counter. The sushi chef just watched and didn't do anything new. The presentation of the food was nice, but 18 to 24 francs per plate does not justify the situation. The homemade iced tea was extremely bitter, meaning it was steeped for too long. Bill for a single person for leftover food and a non-alcoholic drink: a total of 80chf.

Good atmosphere, service and food ! Perfect for a casual dinner.

The restaurant has two parts, the front where you can have sushi from the « conveyor belt », more laid back style and then the restaurant in the back with very tasty dishes. Definitely recommend.

Most elaborate Sushi place that I know

Excellent sushi. If you don't see what you're looking for on the conveyor belt, ask for it. The chefs will prepare anything they have available to order. We were able to get delicious octopus this way. Order miso soup and edamame on the side to compliment the sushi.

I find the store totally overrated and too expensive for it. Well, try it out. The music is a disaster and the place is too bright!

Went there wyth one of my Japanese friend, we both like it

It is one of my favourite places in Zürich. Nice atmosphere, but the food is simply glorious. Personally I'd rather choose the restaurant area, although the sushi bar is quite noteworthy as well. Outstanding

I mean the food was good, but I took the tasting menu and was more hungry afterwards than I was when I entered the restaurant. I literally had to go to the sushi train after the meal to feel in any way satiated. Furthermore, the service was really disappointing - rather unfriendly, they didn’t pay attention to our table, and we nearly had to beg for anything we needed - we waited five minutes for a bit of soy sauce and chopsticks after taking sushi from the sushi bar - I might also add, the restaurant was not particularly busy on this night. The whole experience was unfortunately not worth the money.

Great Japan taste in the heart of Zurich. Recommending the tasting menu and a longer dinner type of affair. Great 4rd 4th date kind of place.

Kaiten bar pleasant, but outdated, uninspired and expensive: The somewhat cramped seating at the sushi bar that made it difficult for the waiters to serve us; dishes tremendously boring. Ten years ago, Zurich people might have been impressed by plain salmon nigiri and tuna tataki, but these days even yojis at the train station is putting out more creative sushi. Also, overall quality of ingredients was medium: soy sauce insipid, edamame tasted bland, rice was too mildly seasoned for my taste. Fish was okay, but we paid 120 franks per person without booze and were hoping for a bit higher quality. Service was pleasant, but there's Bimi across the road that serves much better sushi, is a lot more authentically Japanese and costs about as much.

We had a great evening in the restaurant. The food was sensational, the atmosphere was very pleasant and the service was impeccable and very attentive. Thank you, dear Ginger team! And yes, it is expensive, but let's not forget that in this city an inferior kebab can easily cost 11CHF. In this respect, I don't see any problem with the price-performance ratio.

Many times we have eaten at Ginger and always enjoyed the original Japanese dishes but this time we were very disappointed no choice “yes we are closing for holidays“ which meant that we got leftovers and the chef was showing her back to us during our lunch.. she seemed bored as there were no other guests

Unfortunately poor quality fish. My girlfriend had diarrhea after eating a platter of sushi. The positive aspect is the attractive interior and the food is beautifully presented. Unfortunately, more appearance than reality.

Certainly one of the best in town

A sushi institution in Zurich's Seefeld. In addition to the sushi bar, there is also a restaurant with many delicious Japanese menus. Today we are trying the gourmet menu with Wagyu. Service is quick, friendly, and explains all courses very well. The price is proud, but so is the quality. Gladly again!

It was actually my birthday and I was looking for something nice to eat. As I started to asking the sushi maker something special today, he turned out to have little experience and knowledge on sushi. The salad is really sour with a bad vinegar river. When I complained to the waitress, she didn’t listen and said she only work here and didn’t bring the manager. It was really a sad experience.

Thank you my Gingerteam for a wonderful Saturdayevening at your place. Best Food and amazing service. Everything was perfect and at the end Dino had a minute to sit with us for a Sake and we had time to talk and had a lot of fun. Thank you all again for an amazing evening ….
