Gorges du Durnand in Martigny-Combe

1st time I've been there. Very good home-cooked food. Magnificent hunting.

Magnificent hike in the heart of the Gorges de Durnand in the Val de l’Entremont in the region of Bovernier and Champex. 8.- entrance to the Gorges (rate for groups). We just had a coffee at the restaurant. Friendly and welcoming. Easy hike to Lake Chanpex. Magnificent walkways and waterfalls. Really ideal in summer to stay cool. Accessible by car via Bovernier and parking in front of the restaurant at the entrance to the Gorges. For pedestrians, it's about 25 minutes on foot from Bovernier station.

Superb location, very good food. The staff is warm and attentive. I recommand it. You should also visit the gorges, a place full of wild and raw energy.

Nice before or after visiting the gorges

Nice place to have a cold drink after walking the beautiful gorges du durnand. The people are really nice, great service and good prices. We had a pleasant stay!

We were very well received! A lovely family and friendly atmosphere! Very good food and the owners are adorable! There is even a trampoline for children, our son had a lot of fun! A superb discovery and we will definitely come back!

Gorge is beautiful, hence the stars. Gastro doesn't respond to new guests even after 20 minutes, even though they walked past one several times, so they left the restaurant without having accomplished anything

Visited on a rainy Saturday morning in October. It was the last day of the hunting season and the restaurant was full. We couldn't get a table inside, but we're able to get a coffee on sheltered table outside.

Beautiful gorge one of the prettiest in Switzerland, one way only and costs 9chf

This restaurant is situated at the foot of the trail taking you uphill through the Durnand canyon. It's also here you purchase the entrance ticket for your hike. There needs to be a lot of water in the river to excite you, so avoid the dry season or come after a major thunderstorm. And avoid the week-ends, preferably taking this hike in the morning or late afternoon just before closure on a week-day. When you get to the top of the trail you can walk down the road back to where you parked your car but this is a rather long and uninteresting walk, so I always prefer to hike back down through the canyon, which will make you discover other perspectives than when hiking uphill. If you want to take photos, bring a wide angle lens and potentially ND filters. The restaurant serves basic food and drinks, nothing really exciting is on their menu.

A very pleasant visit in a natural setting. The bridges are made of wood which gives character to the visit and the gorges. They are different from the one I visited. There is a pretty waterfall there. The price is very affordable. One hour visit. Bring good shoes for the descent of the gorges. I would have liked that at the exit of the caves there were more signs to follow to return to the restaurant, difficult to see them. I recommend this visit

Very pretty stream with waterfalls in the gorges. Access with numerous steep stairs. 30 min visit and 15 min return. Price too high.

In a beautiful setting with a shaded terrace and attentive and very welcoming service, come and taste excellent dishes. A good moment of relaxation.

Welcoming place at the bottom of the gorges. Good meals and friendly staff. Good value for money.

In any case, I would not recommend this restaurant. Lunch meal taken on site, for me and my 8 year old son. The waitress suggested that we take the half portion of the tagliatelle carbonara for my son (which was a good suggestion in the first place) but when my son saw the tiny bowl arrive he had tears in his eyes. Ridiculous portion, even a 2 year old wouldn't have had enough. And this for an amount of 15.-!!!! For my part, “garnished” country terrine...garnished with what??? A salad leaf, 3 pickles and 3 small onions. The tiny slices of terrine....I gave half to my son, so suffice to say that I hadn't even eaten a portion worthy of a starter.... In short, we left both hungry and completely disgusted by so much dishonesty.

Pleasant places with the possibility of visiting the Durnand gorges. The boss who is always equal to herself by transmitting to us her good humor and her humor. The boss is in the kitchen to prepare good food for us, his reputation is well established. Victims of their success, it is better to make an appointment to be sure of having a place. I can only recommend this restaurant, go and experience it there.

The gorge is well worth seeing and well developed. Unfortunately, it takes forever to get served in the restaurant. I was ignored for 35 minutes before someone came to me and brought me the card. Then I was allowed to wait again.

We went to eat after touring the Durnand gorges. It has a large terrace. We had beef tartare and perch fillet. The quality and quantity were perfect. PS: thank you for serving us food, because it was already 2 p.m. We didn't think the tour would take so long.

The ice creams are very well presented. And excellent after the Gorges walk. I recommend.

Restaurant with very friendly new owners, happy to be and do this job. Very easy access for all, parking space, children's play area. And we can access the Gorges du Durantant just on the side. Definitely worth a stop.

Beautiful waterfall embellished with a fun and short trekking route (an hour)... just watch out for those who suffer from vertigo, some sections allow you to see below and can be impressive

Great place! we took the Gorges trail after having a coffee at the restaurant where the welcome was great. We did not go to the end of the trail but if the opportunity arises, we will try the climb again.

I know that the establishment changed owners recently. I don't have any very negative feedback but apparently it's not quite like before. Afterwards it may just be a time of adaptation. We will have to wait for more latest comments to get an idea based on these alone… A fantastic place, also great during heatwaves. In view of the previous comments I think that we should not mix the visit to the Durnand gorges and the restaurant. They are two totally different things. Visiting the gorges is subject to regular maintenance and repairs of the stairs. This may vary depending on storms and other climatic phenomena. For my part, the restaurant is great, the staff pleasant, the value for money excellent, what more could you ask for! ?? To recommend.

Very nice experience. Very well maintained and a nice little trip especially in autumn with the flamboyant colors of the surrounding trees.

The environment, the conviviality and the hunting (the one we eat) to die for. We come there for the Gorges, we come back for the restaurant.

Very spectacular gorge, even with little water, made for fit people who have a head for heights. It is absolutely worth the price of admission. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Paid place, but for 9chf it's really not expensive.. Very nice walk, if you are afraid of heights, it's a little scary. Not very practical for children up to 3/4 years old. Lots of walking to do.

The restaurant is located at the start of the gorges. It's a nice ride. There are a lot of steps to climb but the view is magnificent.

Allow a good hour to climb all the steps. The waterfalls are impressive.

Very picturesque short hike through the gorge. Wooden footbridges and small suspension bridges lead up for around half an hour and then through the forest back to the parking lot at the entrance. Total time around 1 hour.

Very good inexpensive restaurant. The French cook from Normandy is very nice and he brings the dishes to the table.

The gorges are impressive and certainly worth a visit. You can buy tickets in the restaurant (also a good place for a drink). The wall itself is not long, however the gradient is considerable.

Quite a nice gorge to walk through. If you've had multiple clefts before, they all look a bit similar. There are a lot of steps (330 steps) and it takes about 20 minutes to reach the gorge itself. Then a bit of climbing in the forest and then descending again to the starting point.

Some stairs are steep and high, can be a little scary(or a lot) if you have vertigo! It is short but is worth the visit! We enjoyed it! We carried our 3y in a backpack, wouldn't have let him walk up, stairs are too steep and it's risky.

Very nice place. The gorge is entered through a turnstile and leads upstream on well-developed wooden paths. The paths are well secured, but exposed and only partially suitable for small children. The climb is breathtaking and requires a good level of fitness to enjoy it (or a lot of time :-)) Before or after visiting the gorge, you can have a coffee in the restaurant at the entrance.

A landscape well worth seeing but a footpath for those with a head for heights and those who are fit. Restaurant has very good food (had excellently prepared calamari on risotto) and very friendly service, knowledge of French helpful.

There is a small restaurant at the entrance where you can buy tickets. The first half of the hike is a climb ( wooden steps mostly). There is also a suspension bridge. The views are magnificent. The way down takes you back to the restaurant. Do note the timing of the restaurant and on weekends maybe réservé a table in advance. There is a small parking close by.

Breathtaking view. Short but dense climb of the 300 steps before the path moves in the forest and goes back to the entrance (restaurant). Waterfalls are impressive, tumultuous and sound like inferno. Fantastic family experience. Some of the stairs might be a little bit scary for very young children or people subject to vertigo.

Fantastic walk between water, bridges, forest and comfort upon arrival at the restaurant. We feel safe during the journey. To do quietly for those who have shortness of breath like me. I climbed the steps smoothly despite my limited lung capacity. It still requires an effort that is well worth it. I will come back in different seasons to see the landscape under other skies. Gorgeous

Magnificent walk to do absolutely once... The setting is spectacular, but you don't have to be afraid of heights to cross the footbridges and climb the 350 steps. The best time is June to be able to appreciate the force of the water, but also very pleasant to cool off on the hot days of July and August. On your return you can quench your thirst or eat a good meal at the restaurant of the same name.

Impressive gorge with an adventurous staircase construction. Surefootedness and a head for heights are recommended.
