After we were turned away from 5 restaurants in the area because we didn't have a reservation, we ended up here at Grottino 77 and got a nice table without a reservation. Even if the management is not Italian, one of the best, if not the best pizza in Zurich! Unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired. Not for the kindness, which is a lot, but for the reaction times. After bringing the pizza to the table (in more than acceptable time) the only waiter practically disappears sometimes for five minutes at a time, and if you want for example to order a dessert or even to pay, you have to have a lot of patience. On our last visit we were ignored for at least twenty minutes (despite the restaurant being only moderately busy) and in the end we gave up on dessert so as not to wait another half hour. It's a shame because the pizza is really good.

The food and service were fine although hardly memorable. I’ve had considerably better Italian food in Zurich and I haven’t even been to very many restaurants here yet. The decor was unimpressive and they have an absurd covered outdoor area which has none of the ventilation of the actual outdoors and none of the heat if indoors. This would have been all right but they have people playing cheesy music at each table and then essentially demanding payment for this. I didn’t have anything larger than a 50, and the guy seemed shocked that I didn’t want to pay CHF50 for music I didn’t ask for, and grudgingly gave me some change but it still ended up being CHF25 for something I didn’t want or request. If you’re going to allow this in your restaurant, you should make it extremely clear before people even enter. I’m not sure this is the part of Italian restaurants which people are the most keen on.

Apparently the good reviews come from the time when the restaurant was still run by Italians. I suspect there was a change of ownership during Corona. Unfortunately nothing is right here. The service was very nice and tried hard, but was helplessly overwhelmed by the fully occupied restaurant - as was the kitchen. We had to wait over an hour for a simple mixed salad and a minestrone, which was just a watery soup and had nothing to do with a real minestrone. My companion's pizza was okay. Actually, we should have realized as soon as we read the menu that this wasn't a real Italian restaurant. Pizzas with turkey ham, what's that supposed to mean!? Unfortunately, my homemade lasagna was a complete disaster. Any frozen product would have been better. Our table was right at the entrance to the kitchen and I think the photos speak for themselves. I definitely imagine something different when I think of a well-groomed evening. The restaurant is becoming overcrowded and is far from being able to handle this volume of guests in the kitchen and service. Luckily, there are plenty of other restaurants in the city of Zurich.
