Grotto in Bassersdorf

We were always warmly welcomed in the Pöstli restaurant. The restaurant has two dining rooms, and you can quickly feel at home in the grotto on the ground floor. There is also a beautiful garden seating area where large older trees provide shade in summer. The menu offers a good selection of dishes made from regional products. You quickly notice that the kitchen knows its craft and prepares the dishes with joy. The portions are enough and the price is ok. The service is also very nice and competent. There are also plenty of free parking spaces available, including an underground car park. By the way, the restaurant is open on Sundays. I or we will definitely come back.

Under new management we were warmly greeted outside. The selection on the menu is good 👍 After our order we received a warm greeting from the kitchen, followed by our main courses. The portions were all very generous! The Cordon Bleus are recommended, as are the fries. The spare ribs with fries and coleslaw were super tender and wonderfully marinated 👍👍 The prices are really fair for these portions. We would be happy to come back.

Out of sheer curiosity we wanted to visit this restaurant. Unfortunately, things went a bit wrong. The table was not prepared despite a reservation, a shame. After no less than 35 minutes we had our drinks. About the food: I ordered the ribs following the waiter's recommendation. They were far too sweet for me, I only tasted sweetness and the consistency was like overcooked goulash. But the fries were very good. My wife's schnitzel was very good. Should have ordered this instead. Conclusion: Unfortunately I was disappointed, well it happens. After so many positive reviews I think it was an exception, but I still decided to give this review. I'll come here again and have a schnitzel.

Simply top: super nice atmosphere, the service is friendly at eye level, you immediately feel comfortable and welcome. Because we had to interrupt our Frankteich vacation a week early on June 15, 2023 due to a defective rental camper, we just wanted to be pampered after a strenuous return journey. Best with a delicious dinner under the cooling trees. We spontaneously thought of the Pöstli and were not disappointed! The food was amazing!!! On every single request (gluten-free, prefer knöpfli instead of potatoes, prefer vegetables as a side dish, mixed salad instead of green, etc.) The rump steak was perfect and extremely tender, the fried onions were crispy and tasty. The chicken breast is juicy and tender and the sliced ​​meat is creamy and well seasoned. Just the potatoes and knöpfli you want so delicious...gladly again. Gardening, weather permitting. Unfortunately not available. A big deficit. Opening times not even for the normal Büezer. Nothing more with a lunchtime appero. It's a shame for the beautiful garden.

We were looking forward to the opening with hope because the previous owner told us what delicacies would be waiting for us in the future. Expectations were exceeded. So first of all the name Pöstli says it all, that's what it used to be called and I think it's quaint and traditional to revive the old name, my mom celebrates it that way. The food was excellent and the staff was also very nice. A clear recommendation for anyone traveling in Zurich or near Basserndorf.
