HATO Zurich has ceased operations!!!

Food excellent, service very bad: doesn't speak or understand German, long waiting times, forgets to order, no goodbye... simply weak for a restaurant in this price range.

The food is very good, especially the sushi was fresh and tempting, unfortunately the waiter was really too slow and forgot whatever we ordered. For the price you pay you expect much better service.

I‘m really impressed by the restaurant. Nice service, great ambience and impeccable food. The octopus was very delicious! Can‘t wait for the next visit!

Service was too hectic, the portions were much too large for a "sharing" concept with many different plates, food quality was good but not outstanding for the price, the atmosphere was like a club - super loud and the "club" clientele was quite loud and vulgar. Won't come back, sorry. A few years ago it was much better.. 😥

5 stars for everything if not more we had a pleasant evening with delicious food in a excellent atmosphere, loved the design of the restaurant, the music, the way you are greeted at the entrance with a very warm welcome, nice location with easy parking and most of all the service of the waiter was outstanding, even got a little gift from him, we highly recommend this place and can’t wait to come back again, thank you

Not sure I understand the negative comments as found the place very nice, the food extremely good, the staff super nice, helpful, not over the top (i.e. genuine). Only drawback is the fact it is a bit on the outskirt of the mega heart of Zurich (i.e. 10 mn walking distance to put things into perspective) but definitely worth it we felt. Also if you feel it is overpriced, we felt it was actually good value for money when you compare to basic Yooji (sorry for the black and white comparison) where you pay CHF 50-70 + per head for average day-to-day sushis on a conveyor belt (which is fine when we go with kids but not much beyond). So overall, recommended, we spent a nice time there.

Went here for a group dinner, it’s a great spot to gather with friends and share food together and have a good time. The food is great (recommend duck salad, dim sum, pork ribs, and chicken main), however service quality was poor - had to ask multiple times for things, things were forgotten (with kitchen closes after they realised they forgot the food) etc., however still pretty solid meal. Price was as expected for the high quality.

Beautiful restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The food is good and the service is also at a good level. A somewhat fish-heavy menu, but there are enough alternatives. In terms of price, it's more in the expensive segment.

Food was good. We really enjoyed the dishes with delicious sauces and the mochis. Sushis are overpriced and the overall wait time discouraged us from re-ordering more. The interior is nicely decorated. Although the terrace is on the street, it's nice in summer.

The most disappointing and expensive Salad of my life. I wanted to try something new instead of sushi and was unfortunately very disappointed. I chose the house signature dish “crispy duck salad” and received about 50 grams of green leaves, 10 pomegranate seeds and a tiny piece of duck. Far from crispy. The dry duck meat was coated in a rubbery breading. The sauce that was so highly advertised tasted like a run-of-the-mill sauce from the Asian store. The whole thing for a hefty price of almost CHF 40. Unfortunately, absolutely not worth it and definitely not suitable for 2 people. Unless you go to the restaurant already full.

The atmosphere is amazing,really stylish

Overpriced average tasting food for Zürich. Sake was very nice though. The waiters kept disturbingly approaching all the time, not allowing to enjoy the time for yourself. Also pretty low number of visitors for Saturday evening.

It's a super nice place, clean and spacious, but it would be better if the employees were more sympathetic.

Actually, from first glance I was waiting for smthg much better, inside is ok, but the first reaction is the smell of the kitchen in the restaurant. This shouldn’t be. Portions are ok by size, the thing that signature salat was not so crispy duck as its written. Woks with honey much better the beef one. Later in 2 hours i had some problems with my stomach, what actually never happens to me. Finalizing- expectations vs reality are not equal.

Exceptional and well designed restaurant, amazing Japanese fusion food. We tried truffled Edamame, Japanese eggplants, and the sea bass. Everything was perfect in texture, flavor and cooking and beautifully presented. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will come back again soon.

Hi guys. Lots of you are complaining about the price. Yes, HATO is not cheap but quality costs. If you can’t afford it, then go somewhere else. We loved the food, loved the service and the music to. We are coming back for sure.

We were there with a group of ladies. Some of our friends have specials requests for their meals. The service and the manager were super nice and friendly . They took care of our table and provided us the hato experience set menu which has various food to try and enjoy on the table. Cocktails were awesome 🍹. Love the ambiance music . It worth money we spent. Love hato teams and thank you for a fantastic evening. 👍👍👍

The most disappointing evening in my life, i worked few weeks only for this and it was not only not tasty , the sizes of the meals was tiny, my 4 years old son wouldn’t be full from this. The most important thing- the service was horrible, the food came in about an hour from the time we ordered. After we went from the “restaurant” we were still hungry (our bill was 181 euros). One more thing , they charged us 2 euros more( “by mistake”).

Incredibly good sushi (one of my best) and by no means run of the mill. Finally a restaurant that clearly stands out from others. Friendly, attentive and fast service. Prices are a bit high, but you also get something exclusive in return.

If you're looking for a very good restaurant in Zürich, then HATO is the place for you to have dinner! ♥️

Absolutely overrated and the staff is in dire need of replacement.

Spent 138 here, and after sitting for precisely 60 minutes we were asked to leave because “other guests are arriving”. Ridiculous.

Appearance and being... Came hungry and with great expectations and left hungry and disappointed. The communication regarding the reservation was very slow. We arrived about 15 minutes early and knew that it wouldn't open until 6 p.m. We were still allowed to sit down, but we had the feeling that we were barely being tolerated. The food is overpriced and the portions are small. The edamame were OK (you can't go wrong), the ramen soup for CHF 14 was about a handful with little taste, the vegetarian dim sum was sensationally small and the Hato Noodle was neither fine nor filling. All this for over 100 francs. I rarely give bad reviews, but this one had to be done. We'll never go to this fancy store again. Each Thai for 30.- per person cooks better and offers larger portions. After eating we weren't even asked if it was tasty. No matter, an honest answer would have been embarrassing... Addendum: the answer says it all. Reference is only made to the topic that is least important to us: the earlier appearance. The rest, namely the completely overpriced mini portions of food that tastes average at best, is not discussed. Sad.

Great Japanese fusion restaurant. I was blown away by the chef‘s creativity. The way how he uses Japanese ingredients is very unique (I am Japanese). Very high quality food and drinks. This is a place for people who prefers quality over quantity. Staff was friendly and flexible. Looking forward to coming back and trying other menu.

Absolutely terrible atmosphere and service!!! First visit to this place we did on Valentines Day to expecting romantic area and nice food. We got NOT ONE!! Table was booked 3 days before! But when we arrive service told us all tables taken and need to wait 🙄😮🥵 Atmosphere inside was super cheap and noisy! Loud club music, service running from table to table, a lot of people, smoking at the entrance that was not even possible to come inside 🫨🤕😵‍💫 All this gave us feelings that this place is cheap night club!! I will never come back and never advice to anyone!!!

A restaurant worthy of a Michelin star! It is truly an exceptional culinary experience. The food is out of this world and the staff are extremely thoughtful and attentive. It is absolutely one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Highly recommend!

Food is just average, nothing special and the beef wok was extremely salty. Prices are normal to high. The waitress was very anxious to sell more drinks and more water... no patience to wait for us to decide. A bit unpleasant on the way she behaved talking loud and suggesting all the time we should drink more. Also, not enough menus for the table, we had only 2 menus for 7 people.

I had lunch with my husband and my small baby ( unfortunately we arrived a bit late, 30 minutes before kitchen closed) but everything turns out very comfortable and great , the service and the manager were very attentive to us. Disastrous evening!! My partner and I reserved a table a week ago. First we were offered an uncomfortable table isolated from the rest of the guests. It took 10 minutes until we got a new one, so the service was unusable. When we didn't even get the starter after waiting for over an hour, our patience was almost at an end. The portions are ultra small. For 16 sushi 100.- chf, where can you get that? Afterwards we had to go to another restaurant after our cheek cost us 200 chf.

The chef gave us a great experience and took us on a journey with refined and excellent menus! A lovely evening with friends but the setting of the restaurant could be revisited to justify the prices charged. Thank you for a unique culinary experience in Zurich

Perfect food, but terribly understaffed - there was only one waiter for the whole restaurant. He was nice and tried his best but it was impossible to run around the whole restaurant alone. Some guest were angry and rude to him because there were no other staff. It's a shame, food was excellent. We left without dessert because after 30min waiting we didn't have opportunity to order it.

Amazing service location and food

Somehow disappointed by the food. The sushi is average (i have had a better one from the supermarket). The waitress kept opening bottles of water one after another even if our glasses were full and I mentioned that we are actually fine, and no water was needed. Pork ribs starter was supposed to be 5 stripes (as per the menu), it came with only 4... I am not coming back

A delicious culinary experience!!!!

It's like a fake hakkasan restaurant. Some of the food was nice, but the sushi was dry. I've had better in Migros. The service was what really let it down for my. We waited 90 mins for dinner, and the waitress was super casual and all over the place. Was disappointed.

Exclusive restaurant with fine Asian cuisine. Very nice atmosphere, incredibly delicious food and top service. The dishes are elaborately and beautifully prepared. Also offers private rooms (perfect for a birthday party, for example). Every visit is a new experience.

We stayed at Hato with our dog on Valentine's Day. It was a very special experience from start to finish. The whole restaurant was decorated with a lot of love in keeping with Valentine's Day. It looked beautiful! The reception was very friendly, our jackets were taken away and we were escorted to the table. We both had the vegetarian menu, which consisted of 5 courses with a total of 10 components. Each one was a delight for the eyes and the palate. Creative, varied and perfectly seasoned. The individual courses were served at appropriate intervals so that we had plenty of time in between. The wine was excellent! The service was attentive and courteous. After the meal, the chef personally came to our table to introduce himself. We felt like we were in good hands and would love to come back!

Very overwhelmed service. We had to ask for the bill three times and after half an hour we went straight to the checkout and asked for the bill because they had forgotten it again. Ultimately, far too little for the price.

Service was great, but unfortunately the food wasn't quite so good. There is still a lot of room for improvement in the direction of “fine Asian cuisine” – and we tried our way across the menu.

Were in Hato Zurich on Friday, December 18th. Wanted to take a larger table, according to service the restaurant was fully booked; I still had a few tables that were larger until late in the evening. The service was very pushy and recommended something before you looked at the menu, but what was recommended wasn't to my taste. Edamame spicy, was way too spicy, couldn't eat it, didn't adjust price then. At least you could ask how spicy you wanted it. The wait was also very long. Shrimp fried in batter was good but just like at Suanglong for the price I expect decent service in the future that will also let you try it with the second glass of wine. Otherwise very clean, nice restaurant. good people, quiet for long conversations

I would have liked more attentive service. You had to request the menu card after 30 minutes. The invoice also had to be ordered twice.

Terrible service, unacceptably rude and unprofessional, very average food.

We are very positively surprised. The reception was very nice and uncomplicated. Jackets were taken out and you were given a number for your wardrobe. The furnishings are unique and I don't think it's too dark at all. It suits the ambience, very chic. Couldn't be better ! Dishes 😍 from starters and main courses as well as desserts.. everything tasted very good! Salmon tereyaki was super fried and simply brilliant! ... that was a purely fantastic taste experience. We had edamame, rock shrimp tempura with spicy mayo, salmon tempura, spicy tuna maki, summer roll, salmon maki and for dessert, chocolate mousse creation, just WOW.. we'll be back and soon! There were a few mishaps, they forgot the side dish.. we had to wait a long time.. after we asked them about it, we had to wait again.. drinks were neither refilled nor asked if we wanted something.. or if it tasted good and everything is OK.. we found it very weak for this price range.. let's leave it at that the boss did everything without any ifs and buts, THAT'S SERVICE!!

My daughter (20) and her boyfriend (20) had dinner there yesterday. A special occasion for her. The food was great, but the two of them had to wait 30 minutes for their starter, while everyone who came after them got their food. In the end the wrong food was served. Service employees were very arrogant and unfriendly and didn't take them seriously. A pity.

Incredible service. The manager is super kind and offered really good suggestions. They catered to our dietary requirements quite well. The sea bass bao bun and the spicy tuna maki roll was just out of the world. Thank you Hato.

Whoever says that Hato has a great sushi selection or even good SUSHI, probably never even tasted how proper sushi has to taste. Awful. We were super craving for sushi tonight with my friend, and what can i say. From 1 to 10, it’s a Zero. Prices are insane for the quality they provide. I had 2 bad experiences at Hato, I gave today my 3rd chance. Unfortunately- never again.

Very disappointed. In my opinion, it is not worth the money that someone would pay. The food is descent, nothing special and the service was not as good as expected for such an expensive restaurant. I found the attitude of some waitresses unprofessional and at the end of the dinner, while they offered to bring us shots, we were asked to pay afterwards. We paid for 4 vodka shots 76 chf!

I've always wanted to go to Hato. I only made the decision based on recommendations! The time had come for a birthday present: I reserved a table for two for the birthday child and me. We came full of anticipation. Then a few things didn't go as expected. Maybe an unfortunate coincidence? 1. Despite the question about gluten-free, as far as I understand there are only two dishes 2. Our table was ok, but the lounge next door was given to two people without a reservation. It would have been nice if we had been offered this special sizzle for the birthday child. 3. Waiting times were underground 4. Note: in many couples the woman works more than the man - the role clichés are taboo for me Now the positive aspects: The host is friendly The food was super good 👍🏻 (worth 5 stars ⭐️). The deduction is because of the 4 points of criticism. My criticism was taken seriously and a compromise was found. Shows greatness! Thanks

Dim sum had rubbery skin, was small (4cm diameter), and in my opinion unfortunately not really worth 20+ CHF for 4 pieces, even considering Zurich food prices in general. The quality was not quite at the level of Hakkasan, though they claim to have a chef from there. Even normal Din Tai Fung dim sum tastes better. I suppose that the higher prices and “fine dining” label are probably more due to the fancy ambience. Front of house was also not very friendly, seemed a bit condescending and made me feel slightly unwelcome.

My boyfriend and I went here for our 3 year anniversary. We were super excited as the restaurant looks great. We made a reservation for 19:00 on a thursday evening. We got greeted nicely and got guided to our table. There we sat. We ordered the Shrimp tempura, baby pork, the lobster and my boyfriend ordered a sort of meat. (I forgot the name of the meat) The shrimp rempura was amazing. The baby pork however was too much for just a starter. After I received the lobster. I must say I was super dissapointed. There were 5 pieces of lobster and almost 600g of noodles. Way too many noodles!! The lobster was super overpriced (almost 70CHF) and just super dissapointing. The meat my boyfriend ordered was also super overpriced. The restaurant athmosphere was uncomfortable. It was dark and by the time it got busy it was very loud, I felt as if I am in some sort of school cantine. The music was TOO loud! The service was awful, we had ordered our food, and when we finished we had to ask multiple times for the bill. After we asked the first time for the bill, we waited 15 minutes just to get the dessert card! Absurd! Then we finally got the bill after another 15 minutes of waiting. We paid almost CHF 250 (We ordered no cocktails or other drinks, just water). I must say that the price is not worth the food or the service. We expected a 5 star meal and service. I got the impression that this restaurant is just a money making business. When we left the restaurant, non of the staff bye or have a nice evening, eventhough we walked past 2 staff member on our way out. Poor poor poor service! I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

I made a reservation for my fiancé’s birthday a month ago with Hato. When I called the day before to confirm, a lady told me they would “of course” do something special - to celebrate the occasion. Never happened. No mention of it at all even after we walked out the door. Table wise - we wanted a 2 person table off to the side where we could sit together. Apparently they were reserved - despite me making a reservation more than 30 days in advance, not sure why that wasn’t mine? To add, the entire time we were at the restaurant, no one even came and occupied the table!!! The food was mediocre at best. It’s like the only sauce they associate with Asian food is soy sauce. What you’re basically getting is fancy Panda Express for people who have never been to an authentic Japanese or Chinese restaurant before. Just the fact they lump the whole continent together as a genre of food is ludicrous. Prices are outrageous. You’re paying 30 plus dollars for a shredded duck salad and more than 10 dollars for one “handmade” dumpling as if to do that is rocket science!? 60 dollars + for a bowl of noodles with some pieces of lobster in it. Unimpressive in flavor, quantity or presentation. Absolute highway robbery. My fiancé and I spent over 400 dollars on the food and basically ordered half the menu and was still hungry when we left. The portions are so small we had to fill ourselves up on chips when we got back home. Disappointed at this establishment across all areas. Clearly no connection between price and quality. The management here has gone insane to charge people the amount of money for the disorganization, service and food. Not one redeeming quality about this restaurant really. Anyone who thinks otherwise, just simply has an exorbitant amount of money to waste and haven’t had decent Japanese/Chinese food. Another observation - not one cliente of Asian descent, which shows you how “authentic” this place is.

One of the best Asian restaurant We ordered: beef gyouza, chicken prawn and truffle dim sum, duck salad, seabass, dry aged wagyu, spicy tuna, tuna and salmon sashimi Everything overall was amazing but the best dishes were crunchy duck salad seabass dry aged wagyu and spicy tuna Honestly a must plus the service was amazing our waiter june was out of the world all her recommendations were amazing Would definitely come back again

Due to Corona, only delivery service so far. But Hato offers a great and luxurious trip through Asia. Arrangement, service and general luxury feeling come straight away. We particularly like that the menu is well mixed and has something for everyone (including vegans). Why only 4 stars? Planted chicken is often used in the vegan dishes praised above, which in our opinion is not ideal as it tastes quite boring. This has taken the edge off some dishes. But that's something we see throughout zrh gastro. Just because planted comes from Switzerland doesn't mean it's the best option. Well the next table is already booked!!

The Hato Zurich is an absolute recommendation. The service, as well as the food, is sensational. We were served personally by the restaurant manager Krzysztof, his service is world class. Very accommodating, excellent advice and always a funny saying. For me one of the TOP restaurants in Switzerland.
