Very nice view of the Säntis and Churfirsten. Simple but very good for eating.

The view is spectacular! Every meter of altitude is worth it. The service is great and the food is highly recommended.

Wonderful rustic alp with a fantastic 360 degree view. In the south the view is towards Säntis and the Alps, in the north and east you can see the Appenzell and Toggenburg foothills of the Alps. In addition to cider and beer and various coffees, there is also a small selection of hearty food. We had sausage with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Definitely a great hike here.

Whether steep, with a bike or moderate with the family, it's a worthwhile little excursion destination. Great service and would be happy again.

Mountain inn with great views in all directions. The food (dishes appropriate to the location) was very good. The young landlord lives for the business and does a great job.

The hike to the Hochalp is a nature experience! Our desire for coffee has been dampened 🤔 unfortunately only instant coffee but that will be changed. As soon as the power line is pulled! So go up there are other drinks 😆.

Simple mountain farming with an amazing view

Superb location - halfway through the hike from Schwägalp to Urnäsch with beautiful views :). We've stopped here for lunch and refreshment drinks and were surprised by how delicious the food was (turns out it was made of meat of their own animals (or at least that's what we understood)). They have the classic choice of mountain hut drinks + a few meals to choose from. The service was fast and everyone was mega friendly. 10/10, will visit again (when we hike in the area)

The view is fantastic, it couldn't be better. 5 stars for that. S'Beizli, well, even though there were no guests there, self-service was no problem. We only got glasses after asking and when we asked for a glass of white wine the answer was that she would then have to open a new bottle...

In the truest sense, a high Alp as you imagine it. On the ridge of the Hochalp (above Urnäsch in the Appenzell region) lies the Gasthaus Hochalp, which has been in the family for many decades. The view from here (1519 m above sea level) is simply gigantic. To the north you have a wonderful view of the Mittelland up to Lake Constance. To the south lies the main Alpine ridge with the impressive Säntis, as well as the Churfirsten mountains. The magnificent spear can also be seen. The summit of the Hochalp consists mainly of cultivated meadows. The inn itself is extremely rustic and is more similar in style to an old stable than an inn. There is a beautiful sun terrace with a view of the Säntis. However, when we visited in October 2020, it was colder in the dining room than on the outside terrace. While you had to wear a thick jacket inside and breathe, it was pleasantly warm on the terrace. We had a hairdryer mood but hardly any sun. The landlady was very friendly. The map is small but absolutely sufficient if you are on a mountain hike. There was Schüblig or Wienerli with bread. A very tasty soup of the day was also on offer. Of course you can also buy some great cheese and take it home with you. We would like to come back to the Hochalp when we visit the region again.

Sehr lieblose Gartenterrasse ohne Sonnenschirme, ohne irgendetwas Dekoratives auf den Tischen. Selbstbedienung wäre ja ok, aber das Essensangebot sehr dürftig und total überteuert. Wir waren extrem enttäuscht, an dieser wunderschönen Lage kein schöneres Restaurant vorzufinden...sehr schade!!!

sensationally brilliant and good prospects

Aussicht von der Hochalp Sensationell! Aufstieg der Straße entlang auch mit Kinderwagen machbar! Terrasse oben an der Alpe okey, nichts besonderes! Preise (zu) hoch!

Die Aussicht von der Hochalp auf den Säntis und die Churfirsten ist grandios. Leider kann man das vom Service des Restaurants nicht behaupten. Immerhin führt ein kleines, grösstenteils asphaltiertes Strässchen hoch zur Hochalp. Meine Bitte, ob ich mein Akku von meinem E-Bike kurz aufladen könnte, wurde leider abgelehnt und dass, obwohl ich im Restaurant auch konsumiert habe. Das sollte in heutiger Zeit nicht mehr vorkommen.

Beim einem Besuch in einer Bergbeiz schaue ich zuerst auf die Tiere und den Stall. Wie die Tiere gehalten und der Stall gepflegt werden, so ist auch die Beiz. In diesem trockenen Sommer ist das Wasser knapp und damit die Bedingungen schwierig. Ich weiss. Doch die Wassertröge der Kühe waren leer, die Ziegen extrem verschmutzt und der Vorplatz zu den Ställen verschi... . Schade, dass an dieser einmaligen Aussicht nicht eine saubere Beiz zum Einkehren lockt.

Mit dem Auto von Urnäsch auf die Guggenhalden und dann zu Fuss 1h dem gut markieten Weg folgen. Ist der Schweizerfahnen gehisst sind die Wirtsleute auf der Hochalp und Anni Fuchs brät einen Fleischkäse oder macht einen Schüblig warm.Ein sehr uriges autochtones Gasthaus versetzt den geduldigen Gast in vergangene Zeiten zumal Hans Fuchs mit seinen Ziegen immer etwas zu berichten weis.

Wir sind gestern bei bestem Wetter in die Hochalp gewandert. Es waren nur zwei andere Gäste in der Wirtschaft, trotz des perfekten Wetters. Die Karte ist wie in jeder Alpwirtschaft überschaubar, aber gegessen hatten wir nichts. Wir entschieden uns für einen trüben Saft, leider war der aber nicht wirklich gekühlt. Aber mit grossen Erwartungen sollte man sowieso nicht eine Berghütte ansteuern. Die Lage zählt und macht den Charm aus.

One of the most beautiful views of the foothills of the Alps can be seen from the Hochalp. The Säntis in all its might with the Schwagalp and the cable car. The chain of Churfirsten, Zuetoll, Schibestoll, Frümsel....The wonderful Glarus with the Vrenelisgärtli and of course the Tödi. A little further away are the Central Swiss, Myten and Pilatus.... But also the villages with Urnäsch and on the other side Hemberg. The whole Thurgau with Lake Constance and the Allgäu. You can't get enough of it. And today was one of the really nice days with a view like late autumn, but it's June 23rd! The Berghaus is open all summer, except today! A pity
